Opened the door to a room full of water. Thank goodness I knew and trusted Jill Cooper as a fellow Soroptimist. One phone call and I had her team at CRBR over to clean up and dry up the mess that was created when my ceiling collapsed from a leak. Once everything was certified dry they returned and did the rough carpentry and worked with me, letting me do the painting and some flooring. Pointed out some problem areas and made suggestions for the next time we get it cleaned. This was a quick once over because we had company coming and he adjusted the services and price accordingly. They made sure to call 2 hours before he was to show up to say he would be late and I thought that was really nice to have that heads up. The worst company ever. These guys have a crew of handymen, people with no skills, charging as a Contractor company when in reality you can get better results hiring directly a handyman. My landlord hired these guys, the Sacramento Branch, after a flood in the kitchen and mold was discovered. We had another company taking care of demolition, and these guys are supposed to put the kitchen back together. Well they can't do anything right from the start, always they have to redo what they did before, and that makes me a difficult customer because I am not ok with them flooding my kitchen, installing cabinets upside down, washing paint brushes in the front yard, painting the dining room ceiling without to mask the ceiling fan. More they came to paint with no paint and expect you to stay home and wait for them until they will come with the materials, they came two times to measure the drawers rails and and came the third time without rails and a new labor guy, cuz that is not a tech, begun to measure again point at which I asked what is going on and he stormed out the door implying that he doesn't have to take my shit and he doesn't even have where to park as he was a celebrity not being able to park across the residential street.They have connections with the insurance adjusters that recommend them probably in exchange for a paycheck, although the adjuster won't recognize it, like in my case, but the landlord said the adjuster and the insurance recommended these guys. These guys are thieves stealing your time and the insurances money by hiring unskilled people. They supposed to give you a work schedule with how many workers are coming on your property every day they show up, what time, what they will do, but in reality they refuse to do it because they can finish their job in time, because they have no work manners,. They will tell you that it is no need for schedule because they work with you or your tenants but in reality they will make you stay home, taking off from your work for couple hours of work, the rest of the other time wondering around doing nothing or going materials shopping that you will think they must have it already. The company sends workers to work without an work order. If you have cabinets like me to be done, could be a chance that they will install the cabinets before they stain them or finish them up in their shop, making you breathing the smell of the stain and when I have asked for a MSDS to see if is toxic for me they said that they don't have such a thing, they gave me the container to read what it says on it. They are not using the right materials. To shine the cabinets after they stained it the are using glue, cuz probably is cheaper.If you are unsatisfied you should complain at State Contractor License Board and make them pay for your time that you use spending as they redo the work. Make sure you have a provision in the contract, if they can't finish in time do to their unskilled workers, that will force them to pay you a minimum of $ 500 a day for every day they pass the deadline if you want them to finish in time. read more

If your insurance company uses CRBR, and you have had a claim (we had a fire), you can breathe a sigh of relief when these guys show up. After I filed the fire claim, I figured I would get a check, an apology and the biggest construction project I've ever managed. Instead, CRBR showed up early the next day to manage the process promptly and efficiently. The house had been filled with smoke, and CRBR's cleaning team cleaned every surface and every item. They cleaned every CD, every spice bottle, every nicknack, and all with professional courtesy and attention to detail. Then there's the repair of the electrical system that had burned up, the planning for rebuilding the roof, and so on. In less than a week, the house was liveable again. I could go on and on, and while we still have rebuilding ahead of us, I could not be more pleased with their results to date. read more

A job that should have taken 6-7 weeks TOPS took them 4 months. The work from their sub contractors was the worst you can imagine. The "project manager" never managed much of anything except to pull people off our job to go to another site, or make excuses why they could only make it one or two days a week. WE HAD NO KITCHEN, NO WATER NOTHING FOR FOUR MONTHS! We were continually told "they would see it would be as good as new or better". Their original estiment was over $17,000 then it went to $26,000 then in the last week VIA A CONFERENCE CALL they informed us it was going to be $34,000. There were no up grades, no changes!!! Insurance made partial payment then finally they sent a second check to them after they said they were filing a lien. We received an email that they needed to make arrangements to get the check endorsed by us and that then they would issue us a check for the over payment as we had settled for lesser quality and less work than the insurance authorized and they would give us "a release of lien". They said they were "going to send up an accountant with the ins check to be endorsed and a check for the overage to us and the release of lien papers. Then their GUY COULDNT MAKE IT THEY WERE TOO BUSY. THEY WOULD MAIL IT TO US IF WE WOULD GET IT ENDORSED AN RETURN TO THEM. It's been over a month, no check, no response to MANY emails, texts and calls. I'm referring this to The Better Business Bureau, The State Board of Contractors, posting on FaceBook and any and everything else I can think of. I wouldn't trust this company if I were you. A couple of months ago, our tenants in a west Chico residence said they thought there might be mold in a bathroom. We called out Cleanrite-Buildrite and a young woman from that company came out. Our tenants told us that she spent only 20 minutes and mostly just measured the bathroom and apparently took pictures of a couple of moldy-looking areas. I'm not aware that any testing was done, but I suppose it's possible. The young woman then gave us a quote for IN EXCESS OF $5,000 (noting that it could go higher) to fix the "mold" problem. Instead of taking the bait, we called out a certified mold person from Sheraton Property Mgt., who found NO MOLD and fixed the problem (proper venting and painting, mainly) and that was that. It cost us LESS THAN $500. Like I said, I don't trust Cleanrite-Buildrite of Chico. Update: The manager's response is a joke. THERE WAS NO MOLD, and they tried to take me for $5,000-plus. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. My insurance company assigned Cleanrite Buildrite on 5/24/16 for water and mold remediation at my residence following a failed water heater that damaged the garage and kitchen. They got to the job within 3 hours, assured me the water was turned off and placed a simple mold containment barrier in with a dehumidifier and fan. The employees stated they would be back in a couple days. Immediately after they left, I noticed part of the mold containment tape had already come loose from the barrier. I used my own duct tape to seal it up... 3 days later when they came back to check on the equipment, multiple areas of the mold containment barrier had failed and there was still water coming into the house from the water heater. I explained that the water had been dripping into the house steadily since they left. Then one of the employees stated that this was impossible and actually accused me of turning their drying equipment off! So they placed a secondary containment barrier over the first one and left again This was on a Friday before a holiday weekend. 10 minutes after they left, the secondary mold containment failed and filled my house with a smell of mold. You could visualize the mold on the wall through the failed barrier! Cleanrite returned 4 days later, on the Tuesday following the holiday weekend. At this point it has been 8 days since the original flood. They begin demolition and are surprised to find that the water heater is STILL LEAKING! A full 8 days into the remediation, they still had not stopped the original flooding problem. Before they begin, I begin move and begin to cover our furniture (We are not strangers to construction dust). The workers advise us that it won't be dusty, and we don't need to cover anything. So after a full day of demolition, I return home to find a layer of construction dust strewn across the house. Not even an attempt to clean anything. I also find that the door to the backyard was left unlocked. The next day I leave town on business and reluctantly left a key so Cleanrite could continue the demolition. Uneasy about this process, I ask a neighbor to check on the house and ensure it is locked after they leave. My neighbor found both the garage door and back doors left unlocked on both days I was out of town! Clearly a company who asks you to leave a key to your home, and then does not even lock it does not have your best interest in mind. DO NOT EVER TRUST THIS COMPANY WITH YOUR HOME SECURITY. During the remediation process, Cleanrite determined that my furnace and coil needed to be removed in order to do the required repairs. Cleanrite hired a separate subcontractor to remove the HVAC system on June 3, leaving me without an AC system during the summer in the Sacramento Valley. During demolition the project manager from CRBR told me he would have an estimate to rebuild to my insurance company ASAP. After numerous calls and excuses, the estimate to rebuild was not submitted to my insurance company and approved until June 18th!!! Over two weeks late, a full 16 days after I was originally told I would have it in my hands. Keep in mind, CRBR removed my AC, and then took over two weeks to get the estimate done, delaying the process by 2 weeks. After all of the above problems, I decided to hire a separate contractor to repair my property. I thought I was done with CRBR, but I was not... After they were done with the demolition, I noticed that my refrigerator had dents across the entire front surface of my refrigerator doors at the old countertop level. The only people who had moved the refrigerator were the employees during the demolition process. I had photographic evidence, including measurements of the dents which were at the exact level of the counters prior to demolition. CRBR denied any of the damage, and the project manager even went as far as to ACCUSE ME OF CAUSING THE DAMAGE after the demolition. THEIR CREWS DO NOT TAKE CARE OF YOUR PROPERTY. After I repaired the garage I was ready to have my furnace reinstalled. I contacted a company to have it put back in, they evaluated the system and found the coil and furnace had been damaged beyond repair during the removal... 4 other companies come out and tell me the same thing. Contact my insurance who says CRBR must warranty their demolition work for 3 years, including any subcontractors they hire. So I contact CRBR, who state it is not their problem and they do not have to warranty it. Long story short, I get avoided, phone calls unanswered and unreturned, and get told by CRBR to just have the damaged system reinstalled by their subcontractor who damaged the system in the first place! Bottom line: CRBR WILL NOT HIRE QUALITY WORKERS, NOR WILL THEY WARRANTY ANY WORK THAT THEY DO ON YOUR PROPERTY. I can provide photographs and documentation of all of the above issues. FAILED MOLD CONTAINMENT BARRIERS, DAMAGE TO PROPERTY, UNACCEPTABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. read more

They left opening where drywall blew through the whole house. I called this company for a painting job , that included sealing all the drywall, the job would have been well over a $1,000.00. Buld Rite Clean Rite sent out the wrong type of estimator , even though they had great detail about the services I needed done. They then sent out someone else out to bid the job. I waited and waited for their bid almost two weeks went by and every other painting contrator had no problem getting their bids on the job back to me in a few days. After not hearing from Build Rite Clean Right for 2 weeks , I called them and the estiamtor said he would have it to me in a couple of days, that DID NOT happen either. I never got their bid. My insurance company referred me to CRBR to remodel back my two bathrooms, plus floors in bedroom following water damage. As I was without a toilet (the insurance company got one temporarily installed) and no shower, much less walls and floors, and I have a serious illness which makes activities of daily living difficult even with the basics, I was promised immediate results. NOT, NOT, and NOT. There were to be two estimates, one for the insurance company to repair/replace the damage, and the second was to include the minor improvements such as tile vs laminate and not including a couple of things I didn't need such as replacing a vanity. Vince who did the estimate was a really nice guy, but took WEEKS longer to complete the insurance estimate than the FEW DAYS that he promised. And I didn't get callbacks from messages. I STILL haven't received the second estimate for what it would actually cost me. When asked about it (several times), JP wanted me to accept his "about the same as the other" verbal quote. Really? I asked for a similar actual breakdown, which they have me sign in several places before they start work about all my promises to them. I would love to have them sign documents about fulfilling all the promises they made to me, with similar consequences! And we hadn't even started on the work. Then JP got involved to get his team to do the work. Again, WEEKS of emailing and calling with NO RESPONSE. Then, when he got around to calling, no apologies, no urgency - no clue, and when I'd neutrally ask him about it, he brushed me off and said he was busy, with the attitude that I was being unreasonable. Then after all that time waiting, he informs me that they chose only to do a part of the job, they didn't want to do these other things. I was aghast. First that they just wanted to do the parts they wanted to do, and second that they told me weeks later when I could have had it done, or at least contracted, with someone else. I had already ordered and received most of the replacement materials myself (like tile rather than linoleum, the pedestal sink that I liked, etc.) by this time, and was desperate to at least get the subfloor and shower installed, so I informed JP that I was hiring them only to do the subfloor and the one shower because those were the absolute basics, and that I'd find someone else to contract the rest, about $10K worth. And all of a sudden he became interested in what I was saying, and was going to get right on this project and he apologized and all of a sudden there was no excuse for me not getting immediate service. And then his team showed up - Kent, Andrew, and Dillon. OMG, what are these diamonds doing in this pile of manure? They were fabulous - professional, kind, efficient, experienced. So I thought, oh, maybe I'll give them another chance if these guys are going to actually be doing the work and I'm pretty much done with the other two. So I told JP that I was reconsidering, but I needed an actual estimate, so he said he'd meet me the next day, and... well, surprise, no show, no call. A couple of days later he called me to reschedule - something came up - and I rescheduled. AGAIN no show, no call. Still waiting.... So, Dan Andreason, Owner, nevermind, I'd rather have these MONTHS of waiting with still half my house not functional and start from scratch with someone else and wait months more, because I will not give my money to such a poor business! You made it clear in many different ways that you don't want my business, so I won't give it to you. And hopefully neither will many other potential customers who read this before they consider hiring you. Meanwhile Kent, Andrew, and Dillon put the shower in, that was special ordered by JP (who emailed me my choices, and he made a mistake, so I corrected him and told him my first and second choices, with model numbers and reasons), and I find that it is exactly what I told him I didn't want. Don't people check these things? And he'd assured me I'd have a shower that was totally ready to use, and I told him I had the shower curtain but not the rod which he said he'd take care of, a curved one. No rod. So I took the shower, damnit, with duct tape holding up my shower curtain, after all, what would a job be without the trusty duct tape holding up something? But ironic. This company lacks ethics. Contracts mean nothing to CRBR unless it's the customer's end of the contract. I caught them only doing about 33% of the work on my home, then they lied and covered up. They contracted to replace around 50% of my roof and put ice shield material under the shingles, then put heating in the valleys and eves. When I went up to my home two weeks after they finished the job and inspected the roof they had decided on their own without contacting me to only do a small portion of the roof. They sent me a bill asking for a full payment. I fought with them for over a year and should of sued them but was so fed up didn't want to spend another several months in court. I contacted the owner through email several times and had no response. Don't do business with CRBR. read more

He kindly reassured me it was not the "scary" toxic mold. He came out to our home and went over every part of our house that was of concern. They were very professional. They offer free estimates. Our insurance agency used CRBR to clean up our house after the septic tank backed up. The clean up process went well, but it took them over a month to restore our home. They contracted out the floors, tile, and plumbing. My biggest gripe is that we paid an extra $600 to have the house cleaned from "top to bottom" as promised by the project manager (Jed Upton). For $600 my house should have been sparkling but they didn't even clean the wood floors...it appears all they did was smear up the windows and wipe done the surfaces (without any elbow grease). Additionally, Jed told me that I could buy new bathroom faucets and he would change them out for me free of charge. When we received the change form, he charged us $500 to change the faucets, and then he told my husband (who wasn't present at the time he told me he'd do it for free) that he explained to me the cost difference with the insurance coverage. LIES! I had a friend with me and I asked her if I was losing my mind, and she recalled him saying the same thing, that he would do it for free. I expressed my concerns to Jed, but he never returned my email or phone call. Overall, I would recommend CRBR for home restoration; however, if Jed Upton is your project manager, I'd suggest requesting someone else. read more

We were in need of major restoration work after a disaster, and they were responsive to the initial emergency, providing very professional, efficient and courteous service. But now we believe that the initial positive response was to win us over, for the rest of the work later on. It went down hill from there. Their motto should be: Do the minimum, charge the insurance company the maximum, and then see if we can sneak in more charges to recoup, from the customer's pocket for things that "popped up at the last minute". After a major flood occurred in our home 7 weeks ago, we immediately called our insurance company. They sent out Clean Rite Build Rite who is one of their "preferred" vendors (it was the middle of the night and we needed to take quick action so we really didn't have much choice). They said they'd be there within an hour or so. They arrived about 3 hours later. But that's not the main issue by far. The main worker assigned to our house for the entire remediation process was a nice, hard working guy. However, we had to keep telling him where all the water went. In other words, they were not proactive about finding and addressing the damage. We had to keep saying, "hey, the water was here too." They pulled (some) of the carpet padding, baseboards, and set up fans/dehumidifiers. They said they'd return 2 days later to demo the soaking closet where the leak occurred (the most major part), drill holes in the wall to aid drying (3 inches of water covered 90% of the house), pull soaking carpets (second most major part), pull the laminate flooring, etc. He showed up as promised 2 days later. As he arrived, he said he was there to do exactly what he said he would do when he previously departed. A short while later, another guy showed up unannounced. He did not introduce himself and I figured he was just another worker there to help. This 2nd man helped the main worker pull the laminate flooring, but left before it was completed. When finished pulling the laminate, he said he was done for the day. I asked about all the other work and he told me they weren't going to do it, that his supervisor said no (wet carpets and a soaking closet were left for us). Apparently the 2nd man was his supervisor. This man never said one word to me or explained anything. The main worker returned the next day to retrieve the equipment and that was it - they were done. At that point, as a "preferred" vendor of my insurance company, USAA (HORRIBLE BY THE WAY - DO NOT BELIEVE USAA's "we care for veterans" commercials), it was obvious Clean Rite was doing everything they could to save money for USAA at the detriment to us. To make matters worse, as we have been pushing back against USAA, they reached out to the supervisor. According to the desk adjuster, she talked to Juan and he told her he "had a conversation" with me about everything which, of course, is a 100% complete lie. The supervisor was was unprofessional, uncaring, and dishonest and the company was only concerned about saving USAA money (obviously in return for business being sent their way). The main worker was very nice, helpful and hardworking and likely would have able to do everything he indicated if the supervisor hadn't told him otherwise. My advice - stay far, far away from Clean Rite Build Rite. If the carpets and closet had been removed 7 weeks ago as promised, we would have been back in our home by now. read more

About a year ago I had some water damage, the toilet in my bathroom was leaking and no one noticed, once we discovered the leak mold had formed on the wall behind the toilet, I called CRBR they sent someone out right away to dry the water and fix the damage caused by the leak, they were very helpful and worked directly with my insurance company. They repaired flood damage in a house that I was renting several years ago. They did the job but the service and communication was awful.

Looks like it the case of extremes on these reviews and I had TERRIBLE experience with the Chico group. We had a deck leak issue in Nov 2012 - no communication, no effort whatsoever to let us know what what going on to remedy the situation. The only time I got any information was when I would call the subcontractor directly because I got such a runaround from CRBR. Being I was so disappointed with the lack of actual help, we settled our business with them (paid in full with no arguments - I just wanted to get rid of them and move on to a solution) they told the subcontractor to invoice me directly for a job they contracted. The subcontractor was very apologetic and said they would not be doing business with CRBR any longer due to the numerous complaints they had received from dissatisfied customers such as myself. CRBR has zero customer service skills and frankly very little knowledge of troubleshooting. Fortunately we found another contractor who was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful and it took less than two weeks to get the entire fix. Save yourself from headaches and heartaches and DO NOT hire this company. These guys are fraudulent buffoons. We had a fire, hired Cleanrite-Buildrite to do complete restoration. They were 2 months late in finishing the house. Had numerous fit and finish problems, extremely poor work. After completion, had a gas leak due to missing protection strap that they forgot to install. I started to look around the house wondering what else they "forgot" to install. Found old closet door being used as subfloor material, missing insulation in the attic, terrible cleaning and sealing of the fire damaged attic rafters and joists, no cleaning and sealing of rafters over garage, damaged firewall, silicone smears all over the roof shingles ment to "repair" the shingles, damaged gutter system, missing subfloor underlayment in kitchen, not structurally sound roof extension that is sagging badly, and many other issues to numerous to list. This company will half-ass the work, cover it up with sheetrock and then rob you blind telling you they have completed everything. It is your choice, but don't say I did not warn you! read more
