I bought a guitar and amp from Cream city the first time I dealt with them. They were super pleasant and they were offering a considerable discount on both items. Since then, I have had two other guitars (that I acquired elsewhere) set up by cream city. There was a bit of a wait to get them back but I was very happy with the action on both guitars after the setup and the customer service I received throughout the process with both of those guitars. I made a special trip to this store based on the glowing recommendation of a friend. Her husband spends thousands there on guitars and they always get great service. Today I walked in and found the acoustic guitars. No one helped me or came over to me even though I was picking them up and playing. A couple of guys were in there playing. Found the guitar I really wanted! Couldn't believe it. I would have bought it on the spot with hard case, tuner, strap etc, but no one bothered to ask if they could help. This place is amazing. Their customer service is second to none. Friendly, helpful, easygoing.... if you have any sort of guitar (or music, for that matter) question, this is the place to be. I would be happy to spend half the day yakking it up, real guitar-nerd-like, here. It's the place I can, and will, easily spend half my day lusting after a Rickenbacker 360 / 12. I recently acquired a new banjolele with a ridiculously high action and some intonation problems. I initially brought it to another shop, who pointed me in the direction of Cream City Music. I wasn't expecting it to be so awesome, but wow, do they have a lot of great instruments in here. I'm not a guitarist or a bassist, but I did geek out over their uke and banjo collection a bit. So many downright pretty instruments in here, too. They knew exactly what to do to fix up my little banjo. It's one of the best instruments in my collection after their setup work. They turned it around in under a week, and now, the nut and bridge are at the right height, the intonation is fixed, and it's such an easy-to-play little strummer. I'll be bringing all my string instruments here for tune-ups in the future. read more

On their website it says that they're huge into buying instruments and various other things from all over the U.S. The staff that I spoke to were highly unprofessional including the e-mail I recieved back from them in regards to a sell. It's okay that they weren't interested. In fact, I assumed they wouldn't be. I took a shot because the worse they couod say was no. That's completely fine. I really enjoyed the layout of the website and of how highly they regarded themselves to be when it came to musical knowledge. The email and phone conversation were terrible. So like everyone, I do occasionally make purchases online, but here's a great example of why it's important to patronize local music stores. *Fade to flashback* It turned out that Cream City Music had a FSR (Fender Special Run - limited production models, not available everywhere) bass that had caught my eye, so naturally I swooped in and had to try it out. Turns out there were two worthy candidates for purchase, and after trying both of them out, I made my decision. Not too long afterwards, someone else bought its cousins - a detail which will become relevant in a second. So I get the bass home, and the only thing that would make it better would be a fresh set of flatwounds and a setup -- and they offer a free setup for instruments you purchase from them. I bring the instrument back, and everything's great. Until it wasn't. Turns out, the truss rod was totally maxed out even before it was restrung. Oh no! The fix for this would be to send it back to Fender. Oh no! Except that they aren't making the model anymore. Oh no! Back to the store I go. Now, I could have just gotten a refund, and then pounced on a duplicate of my defective bass from an online retailer, but then I found it... Another bass that screamed "buy me!" Except that the list price was too high for my budget. But wait! They had a demo model. And were willing to work out a deal. *Fade back into the present to bring story to a conclusion* So in the end, I didn't end up with the bass I originally wanted... I actually ended up with a much better instrument, at a very fair price, with the benefit of my money staying local to support a place that has great customer service. read more

I stopped here a few weeks ago, because I needed some specific screws for an input jack for my Washburn 7 string. Although I was there for a simple/dirt cheap part, the staff treated me like royalty. Andy immediately greeted me, and had one of the techs come up to find the screw. They were even nice enough to just take my guitar back and screw it in for me. Even if it was a 2 second job, the fact that they went the extra mile for me was so nice. Also, their stock is amazing, and the store layout is really nice. You won't find basic guitars here. Practically everything is top quality, and everyone was a pleasure to deal with. I moved to California since that time, but was glad to see that they sell stuff online through Reverb.com as well. Friendly an accommodating sales staff. Shipped my item quickly. I purchased a pricey amp from Cream City site unseen. I expressed my concerns about buying an map in this way but was assured by the sales staff that the store has a return policy on par with other online musical instrument retailers. No fault of theirs, the amp is not a good fit for me. I completed 2 RA requests to make the return per their stated guidelines and within the time frame stated on their posted return policy, no response. I then left voice mails. Again, no response. I am 200 miles away. I am being ignored and feel powerless. Buyer beware. read more

Guitar players paradise! Drove in from Chicago to Cream City Music and was greeted by talented and knowledgable staff who made it easy to try things out. Found a vintage Gibson CL-30 (sorry it's now mine!) for a great price. There's really no chance you won't find something special at this store they have the place packed with every players needs from never played before to professional performer. The drive was 4 hours round trip it would be still well worth it at 12 hours round trip!!! This is a gem of a place. I'm a "senior" player been to all the old famous guitar stores in the 60's70's (that are now gone) this was about like going into Manny's in NYC, only difference you won't bump into Hendrix, Geo Harrison or Johnny Cash but you may bump into the NEXT Hendrix Harrison or Cash ! : ) read more
