In response to the first review, As the groomer that took care of these sweet dogs. I'm writing this first off to apologize for you feeling the way you do. I'm also here to defend Created By Hand Pet Salon. First off i would like to let everyone know that dog grooming is my life and i love every moment of it. I work with elderly dogs everyday, even the ones other groomers wont mess with. I also work with aggressive dogs that no one else can do. That is my specialty and I pride myself in my work. i also apologise to everyone who thinks its wrong of me to right this response but I'm really offended and extremely hurt by someone who does not know me as a groomer or even as a person.On Friday, April 22, 2011 a 15 yr old dog came in severely matted to the point that she could not see out of her eyes because they were matted shut. which is not he first time this dog ever come in in this condition. The husband brought two shihtzus in and said "I know there bad please give them a summer cut." the owner took the dogs in and relayed the message to the other groomer and I. when i pulled Casey (15yr) out to ruff her in (cut her hair before grooming). I noticed she was severely matted all over the body and on her face. At that moment i picked up the phone to call the owners to let them know the risk that was involved in shaving a dog in her condition. I could not get a hold of the husband or wife. A few minutes went by and the husband called back. I told him because of how matted Casey was there was a high chance and almost a guarantee i will nick(cut or scratch) her due to the severity of the mats and because how old she is. Dogs, just like peoples skin gets very thin with age and makes it easier to nick. i also told him i noticed a slimy discharge coming from the private are. Which was matted as well in that area. i also suggested taking her to the vet because it might be a urinary track infection or something else. He was very understanding and appreciative. After the call i started on Casey. Once I was done the wife called. I let her know i talked to the husband and i proceeded to explain my conversation with him. She repeatedly told me not to do it and to just do her face. I tried several times to explain the job was already done.She was not wanting to hear it and she then got very upset and hung up. In the end I did nick the dog under the arm, I did tell the husband (who picked them up). i also showed him the marble sized clump of wax that was left in the ears for the vet to look at and do more testing if needed. I also put a pull up on her for the owners benefit so she would not get this slimy discharge on them or there vehicle. NOT because she was bleeding to much. The husband was still was very appreciative and very understanding. Casey and her sibling seemed just fine when they left. On Tuesday I came into work and there was a message from the Mrs.'s stating she took her to the vet the day before and to please call asap. so I right away called the owner of created by hand. She immediately called her back. she said the dog was nicked on the private part and was burned around that area. nothing at all was said about cardiac failure at this point. I did not realize i nicked her private and it still does not explain the slimy discharge that she was producing. As soon as we seen this review we called the vet and they said it was not at all our fault for her having cardiac failure that its been going on for a while. also they stated it was a little scratch around the private but nothing bad. I feel I did my part explaining the risk when grooming a dog of her age and I feel I did nothing wrong. I know everyone grieves in different ways and i hope the owner can find it in her heart to realize i was only doing my job and did not intentionally do anything to hurt her. At this point it has come down to receiving harassing emails from the owner. The fact of the matter is the dog was cut and burned. She was treated by the vet for this. The fact is I am a consumer and have the right to share my experience. I am saddened by the lack of professionalism and treatment. Yes Amie I have taken my dog to the vet! Please stop harassing me. Pet owners it is up to you if you want to go this business or not. I felt I should share what happened to our dog. Again, please stop harassing me. I have not called you and harassed you. Just like us we grow old and have to see doctors too. Has your dog been on medication for the heart condition? If you had a heart condition I know you would be on them. Do you know how to diagnose an urinary tract infection? If you do then you would know your dog needed to be on medication for that too!!! I understand the loss of a beloved pet is hard but sometimes you need just to grieve instead of verbally abusing others. Wow! I am stunned! I have 3 dogs and take all of them to Created by Hand. I have no complaints about their service. There are times when I dont take my shaggy dog regularly and he becomes matted and they call to let me know that they need to shear and if thats ok with us. They always ask permission. So sorry TB's baby passed. 15 years is a long time for a Shitzo, how great that you had her for such a long time. By the time my scotty Mattie was 13, (she was not doing good health wise) I would bathe her at home because I knew that the stress from the groomers would be too much for her. Reply to Tammy S. We have used Created by Hand tp groom our dogs for about seven years. We also have 2 Shih Tzus. We consider these girls our children. I have had many opportunities to observe Miss Shelly and the staff at Created by Hand over the years. I have never seen anything but the highest degree of professionalism and caring over the years. I have recommended Created by Hand to many of many of my friends, and everyone has been very pleased with their service. My dogs push to get the car door open to get inside the shop. I have had 4 dogs groomed by Created by Hand over the last 10 years or so. Each one continued to be groomed until they were close to 15 years of age. I have had nothing but wonderful service each and every time we have brought our dogs. I remember how Max our 16 year old was tired and grumpy getting groomed and he just wasn't standing up real well any more for his grooming time, so they just let him get comfortable and groomed him sitting down. Response to Tammy s. I have been a client of Created By Hand for a couple of years and I have never had any complaints with them. My dog (who is my baby) loves going there and they do a great job on him. He is a large dog and his coat is difficult to work with, but he is beautiful every time I pick him up. They have always been friendly and respectful, and know my dog by name. They have also called me before when they were concerned about my dog not feeling well. When we first moved here we took our cutie pie to this groomer. They were friendly and referred to our dog as our "baby". The cut was ok, but our pup came home with ear mites/itchy skin. Her hair was starting to come out too. Anyway, the vet believed she may have caught scabies and ear mites at the groomers. I should have said something to them at that time, but decided to not go back instead. I am so lucky now to have a good friend that I trust that can groom my baby. read more

I don't know what these people in these bad reviews are talking about. I just took my pet there for the first time, and he was nervous at first, but when I picked him up he was so happy, and looked cuter than he ever has from any other groomer. I know many people that have taken their animals here and loved it, which is why I decided to try it! Will definitely be going back here!! I have used Created by Hand to groom my Alasken Malamute for about 3 years and have never had a problem. My dog loves to go there and they do an amazing job on him. They have always been very professional and friendly. The staff spoils my dog, but that's ok because so do I. I have recommended Created by Hand's services to friends and neighbors and will continue to do so. read more

Unlike these other reviewers, I have had nothing but excellent results here. My two dogs come home in excellent shape. They are nicely groomed and in great spirits. When we return, there are no complaints from my two girls. Staff is courteous and kind to my dogs. I was referred by another happy customer. read more
