I have been taking my 40lb goldendoodle to Pearland barkway for grooming since 2021. They are now under new management and they have decided to make some changes. Upon making my appointment I was not made aware of the new adjustments in price and charging an extra % to use credit. If I was aware I could have brought my debit card with me but I never use it so I don't carry it. Aside from that I picked up my sweet pup with a hefty price tag of $177.00! That is a bit more than a "small adjustment" to their rates! I absolutely will not be going back. read more

I want to start off by saying, I would still recommend Pearland Barkway and am still going to continue grooming with them. We have taken are puppy to Pearland Barkway since his first cut and have gone quite a few times since. The front desk employees are always great and detailed, and today was no different. The reason I am leaving this review is just provide feedback about my experience and how I left feeling. When dropping off Lio, my boyfriend and I are super specific about how we cut his hair, because he's a poodle a mix and the cut usually defines that. When I was asked about the cut for today, I asked if we can just do the same as last time. The woman up front even went to find the sheet from a filing cabinet and called the groomer to the front to discuss it with me. She asked if I wanted a "4" all around and I said if that's what he got last time then yes. She copied a few notes from his last sheet to today's sheet. When I picked him up, I was very surprised and didn't even recognize Lio to be honest. I didn't say anything other greet him and give him some love, up until I asked if everything looked good. I said it was muncher shorter than what I expected and again she was kind enough to bring out the sheets and call the groomer out. I showed a video of what Lio looked like when he got his haircut a month ago to the groomer. She said this is what a "4" all around is and I replied I don't know all the terminology about grooming but this is not what he looked like last time. A second receptionist pointed out that his last sheet had notes on there that indicated to keep his hair long in a particular style that obviously were not taken into consideration. I told them, well his hair is gone and I asked well what can I ask for next time so that we can get what we wanted. They pulled out the sheet and made notes with me to ensure next cut would be better. Throughout this conversation, they weren't at all rude but I felt like the groomer realized she had made a mistake. She didn't apologize but said the last sheet had a lot of notes and made it confusing. I also felt it was odd to charge a customer before seeing how the grooming went. I wasn't expecting anything but offering some sort of refund or discount on my next cut seemed fitting due to how much hair they cut off of my puppy. I know in the future to provide photos and be EXTREMELY descriptive. I'm also going to request a different groomer next time we come in. I went ahead and uploaded two photos. Dog owners beware! This is the worst grooming service I've ever received in the 5 years I've had my dog. I asked for a teddy bear cut on her face and a 4 amount of hair. The cut was choppy my dog is unrecognizable not at all what I asked for. I have sent them pictures to show the damage they had done and I have not been accommodated at all. I have been taking my Yorkshire terrier to Pearland Barkway for a few years. I just dropped her off Saturday at noon. She wasn't ready until 3pm. A couple hours after I picked her up I noticed she had razor burn marks on her belly and a small cut in her bottom. I've also noticed that she has been sneezing since we picked her up. My poor fur baby has been crying and uncomfortable since. I called Pearland Barkway but they were already closed. Today is Labor Day I'm not sure if they are open but I will be trying to contacting them again. On the last day of our vacation we were called to say she has injured but they didn't know why. Looking at the security cameras but no call to say what happened. Do not use this place. My dog usually comes back from the groomers shell shocked. When she gets home she just clings to us and stares or goes to sleep. I expected the same when we picked her up from Pearland Barkway, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that she was her usual relaxed and cheerful self. Also, she looks adorably well groomed. We were able to make an appointment last minute. It's very hard to find a groomer that will handle Large breeds.... Took our big babies there yesterday for their grooming services. One is a Great Dane mix, the other a rescue pit mix.... the staff made sure we had a room set aside instead of a cage since our rescue dog gets major anxiety when being kenneled.... they cut the nails of the uncuttable! Our pups came back so happy, smelling great, and super soft.... I could tell they were happy when we picked them up and not nervous or scared. I will be back next month! I've used Pearland Barkway about 3-4 times in the past. The first time I took my dog there, I thought it was weird that it took over 3 hours for my dog to be ready (previous groomers I've used normally get him done in about 60-90 minutes), however his haircut looked great, so I wasn't too worried. I called Pearland Barkway this past Saturday and asked if they had any available appointments for Monday (today), to which they told me they had a 10:30AM appointment available. I brought my pup in, right on time, and they seemed busy but nothing crazy. I braced myself for the normal 3-hour turnaround time. At 1:30PM (3 hours later), we called and were told there were still a few dogs ahead of mine. They guessed that he would be ready by 3-4PM. I was a little shocked, but I had no choice but to wait. By 4:45PM (6 hours of him waiting now..), we called AGAIN, and my dog hadn't even been BATHED yet (he was scheduled for a full groom). They said it'll probably be "another hour to hour and a half". That means that Pearland Barkway planned to keep my dog crated from 10:30AM to almost 6PM? So 7 and a 1/2 hours? For a haircut? We ended up just picking him up. The manager would not acknowledge that they were overbooked and didn't even offer to make it right. For how much this place charges, you would think they could at least pick up the phone when they realized how behind they are and let the owners know/offer to reschedule. Any company that thinks it's okay to leave my dog in a cage for almost 8 hours will not be getting my business moving forward. read more

We took our golden doodle here because we recently moved and were looking for some place close to home. I consulted the groomer beforehand asking them to trim his ears since there was matting. They ended up shaving them completely and cutting his ears to the point of bleeding in the process. He has been groomed several times before but he has been visibly upset and acting different since getting groomed here. His ears were matted, but they have been matted worse before and other groomers did not resort to completely shaving. I called them to ask about the bleeding, they said it was a hematoma from constantly shaking as a result of no longer having hair on his ears. They did not communicate that at the time of pickup. I just wanted to update my original 4 year old review and say nothing has changed this place is still the best grooming/boarding business I have ever dealt with. Susan (the owner) takes care of us every time and makes sure Jax gets in whenever we need a cut. She treats us more like friends than patrons and knows our names as well as our dogs and we appreciate it. Donna is still giving Jax a great cut and is such a nice lady. We love miss Donna and Pearland Barkway They are opening a new location soon by the Pearland town center and just want to say good luck I know it will do great. If I could give them a -0 star I would. Took our 2 boys to Pearland Barkway on Nov 23 for a simple bath and de-shed. As soon as I walked in, I noticed the empty shelves (this should have been a sign for me to leave). They have gone up in prices but service has gone waaay down. I paid $174 + tip. I picked them up and placed them into the car. On the way home, I noticed they didn't smell clean, my large boy was shedding terribly, and the areas around his eyes weren't cleaned well. Our boys are inside dogs and my wife immediately said, "They don't smell like they have been cleaned". We have never experienced this poor grooming before. I gave Pearland Barkway a call and shared my concerns. They offered a "do over" and to spray some cologne on them but couldn't get me back in until the following Friday. I didn't feel comfortable bringing them back and it had only been one day after picking them up. Plus, grooming should get it right the first time there; are no "do overs". This was the worst! We will never be returning to Pearland Barkway and I strongly recommend not to trust your pets with these folks. Lastly, the time before this one my wife picked the dogs up and one of them was extremely red-eyed and skittish. He's been groomed by many many professionals and this had never occurred before. The young staff was dismissive and the groomer gave her some ridiculous explanation about the dog being nervous. They also charged her a ridiculous amount for some dog treats that she didn't ask for nor receive. My wife as a result was nervous about the dogs returning to Pearland Barkway. I should've listened to her and not given them a second chance. They will never get another with our 2 boys. read more

They introduce you to the person that will be taking care of your pet and then after they come out to discuss how everything went. This place is awesome if your a dog! They do a great job grooming puppies and have a really friendly staff. I just picked up my little puppy from there and he smells great! His name is Blu but he is white. He likes to play with himself and with other humans. He also like to play with other dogs although sometimes he barks at other dogs if he feels intimidated. I remember one time when he was only 6 weeks old he looked sooo cute we took him to get his shots at some veterinary clinic on Long Dr he tried to pick a fight with a large Pit Bull. This place was highly recommended to me by a friend. I have taken my dog here for a bath and haircut about 4-5 times. Each time my experience there deteriorated. In the beginning, my dog was groomed with no issues and she came out wagging her tail. Then one day they told me I needed to contact my vet to get sedation meds for my dog if I wanted them to groom her again because my dog wouldn't let them trim her behind or feet. My dog has never had any issues at any other groomers, but nevertheless I get the sedation meds and return for her next grooming session. They tell me when I drop her off at our scheduled time of 12 p.m. that I needed to bring her at 8 a.m. due to the fact that she was sedated (no one told me that previously). Then they tell me it will be an extra $20 charge for my dog being sedated (again, no one told me that previously). I leave to go to work and 2 hours later I get a vague VOICEMAIL saying there has been "an event" and my dog "had a stroke" and that I needed to come get her immediately. I'm not sure why the manager thought that it was appropriate to tell me that via voicemail, but I digress... When I arrived (after crying the whole way there) I was greeted with "Oh, you're here for Maddie, we're only going to charge you for the bath today." I literally just handed over my debit card as fast as I could because I just wanted to make sure my dog was alive. The staff there truly did NOT care at all about my dog, they just wanted my money. As I was paying, the manager explained my dog had a stroke after she had her bath but before they could dry her off and that there was nothing that could be done for a stroke. I received no information other than my dog "collapsed" and they put her on a towel in a kennel by herself... I took my wet dog and rushed her to my vet who reassured me my dog would be ok (she likely had a seizure from the stress and or sedation meds) and advised me not to go back to this groomer. The vet said it was clear the manager acted in appropriately because if it was indeed a stroke the proper protocol would NOT be to put her on a towel in a kennel. He explained that they should have called their vet on staff or called him directly if they had not heard from me. A few days later a friend of mine called to speak to the manager about the situation on my behalf as I was still too upset. The manager claimed she had given me a refund that same day, which was a lie. I did not receive a refund until days after my friend made the phone call. I will NEVER return to this business and neither will my friends or family. If you care about your dog at all, do not take them to this facility. read more

I spoke to the receptionist about getting my pug washed. It was $30 for a nail grind, anal gland expression and bath which in my opinion is a great deal. I asked the receptionist if they brush during the bath and after the bath and she said that they did. When i picked up Pepper, she smelt amazing and her nails were grinded down very nicely. When she got into my car and sat on my lap, fur got all over my shirt and my chair. When i took her into the house, she got onto the bed and fur got all over the bed. I then combed her fur with my fingers and loose fur got all over my hand. This was how much fur came out when I brushed her AFTER her bath. I usually only come here for the nail grinding when I don't have time but I came here for the bath because my boyfriend recommended me to come here. They did a great job but it was disappointing to have to brush her out myself because of the loose fur from her bath. Pugs do have a lot of fur and tend to shed, but black pugs are single coated and this amount of fur comes out only due to loose fur from not brushing during and after the bath. read more

I've been a long term costumer (5yrs) at Pearland Barkway /southern tails (same owner of both locations) I've always been pleased with the haircuts done by the groomers but they do not communicate with me. They told me my dog did not have good grooming manners and suggested right away that we get a prescribed sedative before trying any other alternatives. It was difficult for me to believe that my dog could be so hostile with the groomers but did what I was told In order to get him groomed. After his groom, he looked great but I just noticed that he was cut on his cheek and has a huge scab on his cheek. I was NOT notified when I picked him up that he was cut. I paid $98.00 for this groom and am annoyed that they can't even communicate with me and be honest that they cut my dog. I'm very disappointed that they do NOT care about my dog and tried to just hide the cut. I will not be returning to them. read more

I usually take my dog to the heights to get groomed specifically Krisers pets they do a really good job ect......but since I've moved to Pearland i was so undecided on where to take my dog to get groomed and making a trip to that far is a hassle and they do charge a pretty penny $$$but price is not issues for my dog she is my Mundo! anyway I found Pearland Barkway and they did a phenomenal job not to mention the price is extremely reasonable and the location is nice and quaint they should be charging/me more for all I asked! So safe to say I would recommend this place and I would definitely keep going back found my new spot!!!!! But they are extremely busy but I am not surprised because they are so good at what they do. So today I decided to take my Aussie for grooming and bath, and I got a call from the owner saying one of her employees got bit. Which is rare because my dog never bit nobody, he is a friendly dog. Always around kids and he lets him self get touched by kids. My wife called and asked what happened and the employee that supposedly got bit said that she didn't get bit that she's fine, no bite marks or scratches but her got swollen due to the leash being tangle to her finger and got pulled when he jump down from the tub. I arrived to the grooming and I talked to the owner saying that her employee got bitten really bad, but her employee said she was fine and she didn't get bit. So I'm guessing this is my last time going cuz the owner didn't wanna bring her employee outside to show me proof, she didn't t wanna send me picture of where she supposedly got bitten. We've been going to them for a little over a year for grooming and hair trim and we love them. The shampoo they use lasts for about a month. We have two Australian shepherds and one is hyper and they handle him with care. They always leave looking happy and they always have bandanas around their necks. This time one of them had a bow tie. Our last visit with Pearland Barkway we were overcharged and our dogs were not up to standards so I called to learn that there was a new management and prices had gone up. I left a message for Nathan , the new manager, to get back to me to discuss and was told that the situation would be rectified. Three weeks passed, so I called again to speak with Nathan who told me he has left me a message and could screenshot the phone call from his cell phone if I would like proof. First, I thought that was Quite over-the-top but nonetheless I discussed my concerns on staff never discussing the price changes with me nor the new management. He actually blamed staff for not being trained properly and continued to say that only a few staff members he kept and the others were gone. He offered to refund me what I was overcharged, but he made it a point to say if I needed to part ways that he would understand because some people just can't afford the extra fees. Yes he did say that. I asked to speak with the owner because I honestly felt that his level of unprofessionalism should be brought to their attention , and I said " go ahead and forward me that screenshot of when you returned my phone call." needless to say he has not sent me the owners name or phone number nor has he sent the screenshot. Instead he sent me a text asking for my email. This morning I received an email from Nathan Hernandez that stated we are parting ways. We went out of town and left our dog for a second time at this place. The workers were very friendly and helpful taking out dog in. It seemed that our pup would have a good stay. Once we picked our poor pup up his attitude seemed very very different. He was very sad and we assumed it was because we had left his for a number of days. Once we had gotten into the car we also noticed this terrible coughing. The rest of the day he was very lazy and basically slept. The coughing didn't stop and you could tell he was not doing good. We called pearland barkway to ask if any other dogs were sick... they immediately shut us down and told us it was allergies, and insisted it would be ok. We took him to the vet and they told us he had kennel cough due to all the germs at the kennel. We came out with a $500 bill between the barkway and vet bill. Will not return read more

This was my first time going into Pearland Barkway. The store was clean, organized and they have a lot of great pet items. I went in to get my Yorkie groomed. The staff was very attentive to me and thorough regarding the grooming. The grooming process was explained thoroughly and I was asked if I had any questions, which I didn't they were all answered for me when she explained the grooming process. It was probably because of spring break, but it took under 2 hours for my Yorkie to get groomed. I picked her up and she looked amazing. While I was there I looked at chewing options for my pitbull at home. There were many natural and raw options for me to buy for my pitty. Again, the staff explained all of the options to me. I made my purchase and left a very happy customer. I will be back soon...especially for the raw bones for my pitty. read more

*this happened in July, and I'm only posting because we finally decided to take him to a groomers again after this first experience, and it was not at all like this, he was happy, and they were attentive, and didn't take 5hrs and it made me think of this day* I guess I might have came on an off day because my little puppy did not get the same great first grooming experience as some of the reviews I've read. Don't get me wrong, when we checked in they were very friendly and welcoming. I was told that they will go over with me how it went, if they found anything, maybe even tell me the groomers name. I was also told that I should give them about a 2hour window. Well, 3.5hours pass by, I call and check up on my lil pup and he is just now getting bathed. 5th hour comes, and I was finally called. And that I needed to make sure to get him before the grooming salon closes in 45mins. Then when I came to get my puppy, none of what they discussed with me earlier that morning happened. I waited at the register and she just took my payment and it was done. Nothing else. Not only did they create a discomfort on his private areas by giving him rasor burn (they are RED), but I also found 2 little mattes behind both his ears (probably the only two mattes on his body), still, after being there 5hours. Which shows the little attention they probably gave him. He also came home distraught. He was not himself. I am, putting into consideration that he has never been to a groomers before. I have, however bathed him before... he cried the whole time, and he never cries like that when I give him a bath. I gave him a bath because my fiance thought that maybe he's just acting weird because the smell was too overpowering. Like it's like they just dumped a bucket of it on him. I can still smell it in the livingroom hours later, and can you imagine what that's like with a much more heightened sense of smell? Maybe the mood shifted in those 5hours he was there. Oh well. Hopefully our next groomer will treat us a little better. My lil pup means the world to me and I am really upset I put him through that. Never again. read more

Do you have a spoiled puppy? Then this is the place for them. You have a couple options when you take your fur baby their. You can board them over night and/ or take them to doggy daycare. Like most, they keep the little ones, like mine, from the big dogs. During boarding, your pup gets their own condo, all there toys are taken and itemized. Yo can bring you puppies own food and sleeping bed and toy to make them comfortable. They even wash my puppies toys and bed when he had an accident. You even have the option to have your pet groomed when you pick them up. The staff is always glad to see my dog and have watched the staff interact loving with all the dogs there. read more
