Had a wedding to attend on Saturday and the rehearsal dinner is Friday. I called Joanne on Monday afternoon around 5 asking if I could drop off a satin dress I badly needed altered. She immediately took me and said I could come at that exact time I called. She was super professional and explained to me how she would alter the parts I wanted altered. I had a satin dress with two layers and I didn't like the underneath layer so she shortened it right where I wanted it! The waist part of the dress was too loose and made me look like a box and she was able to sinch it while making the seams look flawless on the sides! My waist looks so small in the dress now and she rushed to do the dress by Friday when I needed it and I'm so appreciate of her work especially since it was last minute! I am member of the two wedding dress club. When I saw it listed on eBay, I was mesmerized. When the seller listed the measurements, I knew it was a sign from God. I bought the dress on eBay thinking it would fit me like a glove based on the seller's measurements. It was wee bit small & alterations would be needed. But how do you add five inches to the waist?!? I was in a panic. The wedding dress, which I fell in love with, was too small and my wedding was in ten weeks away. Could I lose the weight? A friend had raved about what magnificent custom work Joanna had done on her Mother of the Bride ensemble so I called Joanna and she invited me to her shop immediately, despite the fact that she was in the middle of a massive custom bridal party order that was to go out the following day! Upon arrival, her warm, radiant energy and apparent kindness put me at ease on the spot. She obviously takes great pride in her work and her appearance was that of Old World aristocracy! She reminded me of a character out of a great novel with the way she carried herself with such poise and elegance and she listened to my concerns about the fit and knew exactly what to do to make it right, pinning seams and agreeing that with a weight loss regimen we could bridge the gap of five inches. I knew at that moment, my major problem was solved. She took my measurements and after showing me several different dress ideas, we agreed to meet for my first fitting in six weeks to allow me time for weight loss. Most seamstresses would recommend expensive alterations from the onset but not Joanna. She understood my desire to maintain the integrity of the design while looking my best and taking the most fiscally sound route. She was patient. We met, but it appeared although I had met my target measurements, it was still snug. I also redballed Joanna and asked her to cut down a lace bolero that my cousin lent to me for the ceremony. It was that something borrowed. We chose the best bits of a few and along with my requests; she created the gown of my dreams practically overnight!! We scheduled a visit within a week and I was shocked that she had already designed and sewn my gown and finished the bolero. I put the whole ensemble together and I cried. Joanna made my dreams come true! Joanna is my Mother Teresa - she is such a lovely woman with a wonderful heart and soul and I will never be able to repay her for her help and kindness. I got my wedding dress from David's Bridal. When I was there they told me I'd have to get it taken in, but I wasn't sure so I called Joanna and brought it to her. I have a corset dress so she showed me what it would look like if I just tied it tighter and it was fine which saved me a bunch of money not getting it taken it. Also David's Bridal convinced me I needed a bra, but Joanna showed me how much better it would look with cups so now it looks great and I will be more comfortable. If I would have gotten it altered at David's Bridal I would have spent a bunch of money to get it taken in so I'm so glad that I took my dress to Joanna. Her prices are very good and to top it off she is a very nice person. I will definitely be going to her again if I need alterations in the future. read more

Joanna is woooooooonderful! I took my wedding gown to her and just picked it up today, she could not have done a better job. I ordered my gown from a designer online and hadn't been able to try it on, it turned out that it was probably a full size too big. Joanna took it in at all the right places and even did a few extra things (like reshaping a seam at the bust line) just because she thought it would look better. I saw her for 2 fittings and then the 3rd fitting was when I picked it up and it was very quick, all 3 times I was on a break from work and it only took maybe 15-20 minutes maximum for her to do all the pinning. She knows what she is doing so she's pretty quick. She is very professional, very sweet, her attention to detail is great, and her prices are extremely fair. The store I purchased my dress from was going out of business and the reviews of their in house alteration team were poor. I left with my dress and begin searching online and found Joann. I was so nervous to trust someone I found online, but found so many positive reviews I decided to email her. I went to her home and her work area which was spotless. She told me what we could do and quoted the price. I almost died at how reasonably priced she is. Three weeks later I came back for my final fitting. I bought my wedding dress from a consignment shop of sorts- Sabrina Ann, a once-worn & never-worn bridal store. I didn't love it at first because it was 2 sizes too big. However, once it was laced/clipped in the back and I once again had a shape, I fell in love. It was going to be perfect-- once it was altered, of course. The chest was too large and a little too high and it needed taken in from the armpits down to the hips. The train was also enormous, so I knew I would need a bustle. I was concerned because it consisted of several layers, included lace and beading hand-sewn into the dress. After some research, I found Joanna on Yelp and decided to go with her based on the reviews and photos others have posted. I was nervous at first, and put off taking in for a while (I brought it in December 28th for an April 16th wedding), because I didn't know who would be cutting up my dress. After my first fitting, I laughed at myself for being nervous in the first place! It fit PERFECTLY everywhere. Not only that, all the lace and beading had been put back in place-- the bustle just needed to be finished (I can't say this will be true for everyone). At my second fitting 2-3 weeks before the wedding, my bustle was in place and everything was 100% complete and perfect. Joanna took a great dress and made it perfectly me in a very timely manner at a reasonable price. I'm SO glad I decided to take a risk on her because it turned out so nicely. Joanna displays incredible talent, is highly professional, and in my case, a wedding lifesaver! I purchased an expensive gown from a bridal salon that came recommended to me and opted to have alterations done by the in-house seamstress. The dress was entirely beaded and had very intricate details, so I was hesitant to have alterations done anywhere else. To my disappointment, the in-house seamstress did a shoddy job and the alterations cost me an arm and a leg. Even after repeatedly voicing my concerns with the fit, I was told the dress could not be altered anymore and was forced to leave the shop in discontent. I went home and cried because the dress just did not fit the way it was supposed to, and my wedding was less than a week away. Fortunately, a friend of mine recommended Joanna, and she accommodated me without hesitation. In a matter of three days, Joanna fixed all of the mistakes the other seamstress had made and altered the dress to fit me perfectly (redid the hem, cups, seems inside, closure in the back; took it in on the sides, pinched the sweetheart neckline so it was more secure. Remember, entirely beaded gown). She listened to my concerns, offered her professional opinion, and made me feel like I was born to wear that dress! She was also far more reasonable than the bridal salon. Without Joanna, I would've felt disappointed on one of the most important days of my life.
