I have been coming here to have my hair done for a year or so with Ms. Karen as my hairdresser. She knows how to handle thick, curly hispanic hair and is a very patient woman. I wanted something to tame my lion's mane of curls and she knew just what to do. She recommended the Keratin treatments and it has done wonders for my hair. The ringlets where always frizzy and unruly, but with frequent treatments they've become manageable and smooth. Since I have dark hair, I wanted to color it, but instead of bleaching and ruining my hair follicles, she suggested Shades. Shades are a long lasting, TEMPORARY hair color that tints your hair with whichever color you choose. They wash out as time goes on, so those who dont wash their hair daily, will have a great advantage of using this product. I chose a red tint so now in the sun, there is a slight red hue. I was referred to Creative Hair & Spa by a friend of mine. I typically just have my husband trim the back of my long hair and call it done. I have been starting to grey at my scalp and thought I'd try going to a professional. Luz was amazing. She could see I was nervous & inexperienced and she talked me through: what type of haircuts I might like, what she thought would look pretty, what highlight options she thought would work best and guided me like a mother might guide her daughter! I walked out of there with a cut I LOVE, soft highlights that will be able to grow out easily if I don't want to come back in 6 weeks and it was very affordable! I don't think I will be able to go back to having my husband trim my hair when I can go to Luz and feel like a million bucks for a very affordable price! You should go too! I was very excited to try this place out due to its reviews but I unfortunately experienced a horrible experience here a few weeks ago. I came in to get a hair cut and root touch up and I was there for 3 hours and I left with an uneven haircut and my eyes irritated due to the woman getting chemicals in my eyes multiple times. I asked for curtain bangs and a face framing haircut and my curtain bangs are cut severely unevenly. She asked someone else for help and she also didn't fix them. I was so disappointed to leave after over 3 hours of sitting there only to leave with a very expensive uneven haircut that didn't even remotely match the photo that I showed. As an update - 6 years since my last review, and I still go to this salon and love it. I moved away for a couple years, but upon coming back, I found that Luz is just as fantastic as I had remembered. Her haircuts, hairstyles, and hair-coloring are all top-notch, for fair prices. Even when I come into the salon with a specific idea in mind, I often end up asking for her input because her instincts are always elegant and tasteful. I had her do a major haircut and hair-color change for me last fall, and she not only did an amazing job, but she also kept checking in with me throughout the process to make sure I was comfortable with what she was doing. I cannot stress enough how relaxing it is to come to this salon, and how peaceful and lovely Luz is as a professional. Thank you guys, I'll be back soon to get my pandemic haircut! read more

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and not leave bad reviews, however my experience was so deplorable that it left me no choice. Not only did I uber all the way over just to be told that my hair was unable to be fixed, but I was talked down to like a child and deliberately disrespected from the moment I started speaking. Just because you dealing with customers that are younger that you, does not under any circumstances make it okay to be disreputable. I wanted to get curtain bangs and showed her a photo, which she proceeded to tell me wasn't possible to do with my face shape, that in which she insulted. There is a vast difference between being direct and rude. Don was a perfect example of the latter. After convincing her that it was what I wanted, she told me to pick out the amount of hair to be cut in the front (which I I might add is not my job to do because I am not a hairdresser, like she claimed to be), but when I did just that she then raised her voice and said it was wrong. After enduring this unethical practice for far longer than I should have put up with, I asked politely if I could call my mom really quick and Don yelled "This is turning into a way bigger deal than it needs to be" and went to the back. Luckily I didn't stick around to be insulted anymore than I already had been, however I am floured by this amount of unethical practice. This experience has turned me away from ever wanting to get my hair done again. I hope that Don reads this and takes a long look at herself in the mirror tonight because treating people this way will never be okay. I hope she makes a conscious change to the way she treats her customers for the sake of future clients. As for anyone considering going here, I would say save yourself the time and don't. PS. I have been going to Luz and Fara for as long as I can remember! I go to Luz for my hair and we have done everything with it! She has dyed, colored, cut, and done everything imaginable with my hair. Never once have I left her chair not loving my hair!! I go to Fara to get my eyebrows wax and I will never let anyone but Fara touch my brows. I called on a Sunday to see if they were open - they weren't but one of the ladies happened to be there so she waited for me to arrive (thirty minutes) and cut and styled my hair exactly like I wanted. She (Luz) has a great sense of how to style and cut hair. She also gave me a few samples to use before my wedding in a few months. The cut and style with shampoo is $30 - - as far as hair salons go I would make that $$ not $$$. Plenty affordable and very good service - will likely return! read more

I made an appointment with Luz because so many people on here said she was good. I just got the best haircut of my life!! I knew I wanted something different; something radically short but still feminine. Luz helped me look through magazines until we found what I was looking for. She really took her time and at one point apologized for being so slow because she really wanted to make sure it looked good. I told her please yes that's what I want! She helped work with me on the length and how I wanted it cut around my ears. It ended up looking totally fabulous and she gave me advice on how to style it and what product to use and everything. I walked out of Creative Hair with the biggest smile on my face. I still can't believe it was only $30. For the amount of compliments I'm getting it should have cost twice that amount. After trying at least 5 hairstylists at Davis in 4 years, my only regret is not finding this place sooner. read more

Went to get my hair cut here. I wanted long layers but all I got was butchered hair, the bottoms are so flat and rigid looking. Show the lady the picture but regardless, it did not come out to the way I wanted it to be. I work through the service industry so I hate to complain, but my hair cut is so awful. My boyfriend even said it looked bad and does not look layered at all, rather choppy...even after straightening it, it still looks bad. I now have to go to a recommended professional to have it layered right and changed. I shouldn't have cut my hair, I've learned my lesson.. The lady was really sweet so two stars for her. read more

I hardly ever write any reviews, but I had to make a yelp account to review this spot. I needed a haircut, bad. My hair was previously waist length and decided to let my friend cut my hair (she cut off about 12 inches). I wasn't totally disappointed in it, however I wanted my hair to have more layers and less blunt-ness. I decided to hit up Creative Hair, because I hate going anywhere downtown Davis. Lucero ended up being my stylist, and I'm glad it was her. She was gentle with my hair and followed the style of the picture I showed her. I love it! My hair is so soft and manageable. I don't have typical asian hair. I have a LOT of hair and it's kind of thick, and a little wavy. Everyone has since complimented my hair. This place is nice and cozy. I'm getting old, and no longer hip with the cool kids. I'm glad I decided to go with Creative Hair, instead of one of those trendy spots. I will definitely come back. read more

It turns out that if you want an impromptu haircut in Davis, your choices are very limited, who knew? I found this place online and decided to just go for it since it was one of the only places in Davis open on a Monday. I walked in and the whole place was empty (a bit worrisome) but the lovely Iranian woman who cut my hair was very nice and did exactly as I wanted! Major bonus: only $35!! She also asked me if I wanted her to style it or not! I thought this was a nice touch bc let's face it, they always make your hair look awesome and the next day, it's never as great no matter how hard/how long I try to repeat what they did Only cash or check though!!! I am VERY pleased with my experience here. I needed a last-minute haircut and just walked in on a Saturday morning (right around when they opened) and despite having a busy schedule, they were able to squeeze me in for a quick trim. My hair was pretty dead, and the stylist knew exactly what to do with it. I got rid of a couple of inches, got great layers, and now my hair isn't a dead mop onto of my head. Plus, I was in and out of there in under 30 minutes and it only cost $30. In the past I've gone to places that were much more expensive and have been less than pleased with the results (and the prices). Creative Hair is the perfect happy-medium. They listen to what you want, they give you a great cut, and it's not outrageously expensive. I'm very happy that I found this place, and I plan on returning here for my next haircut. read more

I have been going to Farideh for years now. She is an incredibly talented stylist :) remarkably professional and super kind.

Lucero (Lucy) was my hair stylist and she was very sweet! Upon entry, she introduced herself and shook your hand - it really shows they're interested in doing good business with you. She was very attentive to my explanations and gave a lot of her own recommendations and advice. Prior to and during the process of having my hair colored and cut, she explained each of her steps and she was very reassuring. I'm typically not a conversationalist but she was very friendly and we had a nice little chit chat. She also makes sure you are comfortable whether you're sitting under the heater/dryer or having your hair shampooed. She also said if you're unsatisfied with your cut or color, just call her up and she'll set up a time to fix it for you. The stylists there generally have flexible hours too. The location is great and the interior looks very welcoming, new, and well-kept! The owner has had the business for exactly 2 years the day I came in and they really revamped the place to be inviting for not just older but younger people as well. The pricing was reasonable; it's not dirt-cheap but not overly expensive either. Around $30-ish dollars for cut, and color kind of depends on the length of your hair. Mine was short so it was around $65. It definitely helps if you have a discount coupon of some sort. They are very straightforward with letting you know how much it is too. My girlfriend and I were in town and badly needed haircuts. We were able to get appointments with Karen, and we are both thrilled with the results! We got some of the best haircuts either of us has ever had! We both went from really long to short. She understood exactly what each of us wanted and was able to make suggestions that were really helpful. The price was really reasonable too. I have hair that gets wavy/frizzy and looks awful short unless it's layered just right, and she did it perfectly. I'm also really low-maintenance; I don't blow-dry or use products beyond shampoo and conditioner. All I have to do with this haircut is run a brush through it and let it air dry, and it looks fantastic. It's so hard to find a hairstylist who gets what I want and can give me a wash-and-wear haircut that I love. I will definitely be visiting Karen every time I'm in town. Thanks so much! read more

DO NOT come here for eyebrow threading. I payed 15 dollars for an amateur threading job which consisted of a two minutes of threading and 20 minutes of plucking. If I wanted the same crappy results of plucking I would've stayed home and did this for free. Please go to a regular threading place where you'll pay about 10$ for 100% better results. I got my haircut here with the owner. I had been looking for different hair salons for weeks until I decided on this place. I looked on yelp and it said the price for women's haircut was $19. When I walked in, there were no prices listed. That should've been my first clue something wasn't right. She looked at my hair and said she wanted to wash my hair even though I had washed it that morning. (My hair is not exceptionally oily or dirty) The cut was mediocre, nothing amazing about it. When I went up to the register to pay, I gave her my card and asked how much and she quietly said $35 then swiped my card as fast as humanly possible. Wtf. It's my own fault for not asking how much it would've cost upfront but I just don't like being misled. They should update the prices on yelp or at least list them at the salon. Super sketch. I don't understand how the ratings were so high for this place. Definitely will not be coming back. read more

Juanita is great! I took in my laptop to show her photos of approximately the hairstyle I wanted (pixie). She took the time to ask me if I was sure (I had long hair), notice how in which direction my hair grows in order to tailor the cut, and finesse it at the end. I'd go back to her any time, and highly recommend her. She focuses on her work, so doesn't force you to make small talk throughout.
