I never had wanted to add a railing to my steep stairs to get into my craftsman house. However after my knee replacement, I had no way to get into the house. This is a fair warning to all who may do business with CREATIVE IRON WORKS. Dan and his company insisted we pay 50% of total cost of project. This was highly unusual but I went ahead and pushed it through our association anyway. I had a check sent to him as soon as possible. Once he received the check he did not return calls, he did not answer voicemails nor did he respond to emails or text messages. We spent multiple weeks trying to get a hold of him and threaten to cancel the contract. Several months go by and still no response. In the end we have to get an attorney involved to get him to give us a full refund. Dan and his company were recommended to me by our landscape contractor. He had seen his work on a number of jobs and felt he was someone that could build what we wanted. We needed three gates, black powder coated steel with wood inserts to match our siding in the front and fencing in the rear. The initial visit involved Dan listening to my ideas and giving me input on the pros and cons of what I wanted and then submitting his quote. I found his pricing very fair and decided to hire him. Best decision I've made in awhile. His craftsmanship and attention to detail are superb. It took him a little longer than estimated, but was due to the wood I specified for the inserts. It was a thermally treated and was not something he was familiar with. Bottom line is, the gates look absolutely stunning! Dan and his son hung them beautifully so they work effortlessly. I have tried to have the original installer repair a fault in the gate for over a year with no luck. I thought I would need to replace the gate. If you don't mind poor craftsmanship, than this is the company for you! We ordered a gate from Creative Ironworks. While our wall was crooked, Dan and his son assured me that it would be hung straight and would be flush at the top. It took about 6 weeks to get the gate. The handle was supposed to be installed directly centered below the lock, but they installed it on the frame, which aesthetically did not look right and was also very dangerous, as hands could easily be crushed. They took the gate back and reinstalled the handle without any hassle or additional charges. The gate is also crooked, not square and the rails that hold the gate are not flush at the top of the wall (@ 1/2 inch difference). We've given them every effort to fix this over the past few months. The last correspondence from them was 10/20 and they have failed to respond to any messages after that. We're going to have to hire someone else to fix it. For $1,400+, I would expect better quality. Think twice before using this company! read more

Dan and his family at Creative Iron Works are the best. We had a nightmare experience with a previous contractor that left us high and dry with an inoperable driveway gate. CIW created a beautiful white iron driveway gate with a custom chevron pattern for us. After a couple of months, the gate started to sag due to the fact that the first contractor had not dug a deep enough foundation for the gate post. Even though it wasn't CIW's fault, Dan and his family personally came out, dug up the foundation of the gate post, dug four feet deep, and poured 19 bags of concrete to fix it for good..,for basically no charge (only the cost of materials which was minimal). Now the gate is flawless. In the end, they probably spent way more time on this project than they had quoted for but they did not pass on the added costs to us. I couldn't believe it! This is a family run business that believes in customer service and doing the job right. CIW came in with a competitive quote, excellent service, and the highest quality building materials. Don't waste your time with those other contractors. I wish I had gone to CIW from the start. read more

Run from this company! I hired the owner, Dan, to build a custom gate. Dan drew me a great picture and asked for a $900 deposit. It seems he thought this was the end of the job!! Three months later, after numerous excuses about painting delays, etc., I offered to take the gate without painting. Dan finally admitted that he never built the gate. I asked for my $900 back and he said he sent me a check. This check is just like his gate company - missing and a fraud. I wish that I would have checked him out before I gave him my money. Even the Clerk at the Long Beach Court said she passed on him and was sorry to learn that I contracted with him. All of his telephone numbers have full mail boxes; there is a permanent out of the office sign at his work address; his business license with the City of Signal Hill expired December, 2019; no Contractors License. He is only available via text on one number. This behavior should be illegal! Please learn from my mistakes. read more

They made gates for our fencing. The gates look okay. But, they took forever, at least a month longer than they originally promised, and were not really the design we asked for. And now, a couple years down the road, they are not weathering well, although we were promised that they could stand up to the weather in our neighborhood. If I could give this business less than one star, I actually would. Not only did I try to flag them down for months last year without a return phone call, but when they did actually email me back and then show up for a job, we requested more work done in January, and we're still waiting to hear back when our pieces will be ready to be installed. Communication is terrible and service does not show up when they tell you they will be there. I'm sure the work they do is great, I've just never actually seen. I hate to give bad reviews, as a matter of fact, I have only given reviews of service that I have been blown away by. Custom designed gates are beautiful and add richness and value to my house--I'm very pleased with the three gates that Dan built and installed. Of three contractors/quotes, Dan was the most pleasant and realistic with regard to engineering design. I was happy to work with this local business that built and artistically crafted my gates. I'm providing 4/5 stars because the work was later than expected, which could have been compensated for if Creative Iron Works initiated more frequent updates/communication after we signed the contract and installed the garden gate in the proper location the first time. To me, these are minor "infractions" and Dan and his team are otherwise accommodating and friendly. I would highly recommend and/or call again. read more

I called Dan based on several positive Yelp reviews. They seemed to be competent and the price they did the work for was competitive. The beginning part of the sales cycle Dan was quick to respond and came out to my home in Temecula for an on-site assessment and measuring. I selected a custom paint finish which was a little more expensive, and Dan was prompt and helpful in guiding me through the options. The only lapse was during the production phase. That part process was slow, and Dan fell out of communication which prompted me to be a little persistent in my calling. Ultimately communication picked back up, and my gate was delivered and installed about a month behind schedule. Although during the middle part of that process I was beginning to question my decision a little, when Dan and his son Dakota delivered and installed my gate, the waiting proved to be worthwhile. The finished, installed product looks absolutely fabulous. I love it. My wife loves it, and everyone who has visited loves it. What I did do, however, was add a few little felt pads near the handle to dampen the sound of the closing gate. Dan would have gotten all five stars if he had just set the proper expectation in lead time, and stayed in touch a little better during the long production phase. Overall, I would certainly recommend Creative Iron Works and would also call him first should I need more iron work done in the future. read more

I would never recommend this company to anyone!!! They put up a very nice looking gate but used hardware that was inferior. Our gate started sagging and we could not close and lock it! That was the purpose in the first place. Security gate!!! We called and called and left messages. No return call. My husband went to their shop and spoke with a fabricator and gave him his phone number. Dan the owner did call back but many days later. He was going to come to our house to check out the problem he said on monday. He never showed up! In the mean time, we can't shut our gates. We again called and emailed several times! No call, nothing. Now we are forced to try and fix it ourselves. This gate was $1600 to $1800 and we can't use it. This has been going on for months! Beware of this company if you need a gate!
