This place is a staple in the neighborhood. I've used them for various custom metal work needs over the years and they always come through. I recently ordered an iron address sign but the vendor forgot to drill screw holes on it. I called West Coast Metalcrafts and the lady was very accommodating about taking care of it. I came in with no appointment on a random weekday and she had the techs put the holes in it in less than 15mins. I paid $10 and was very happily on my way! Great service! I can not comment on the quality of work as our business relationship did not get to that stage. However, I can comment on the customer service, and, as others have pointed out, is terrible, but I think I might understand why. We needed a gate in our backyard. I had an appointment to have the gentleman come to our home to do a measurement. The appointment was scheduled at 12pm to 1pm to do the measurement. That day I realized I had an another appointment that would end at noon and was less than 10 minutes away. I called at 10:30am, spoke with a woman, and asked if it was ok to be about 10 minutes late. In addition, I informed her that I had contractors in my backyard working an another project. The gate was opened and if he arrived at 12pm he could start measuring and I would be a few minutes behind. She agreed and said that would be fine. I arrived at 12:10pm and rushed to the backyard only to discover that he had arrived and left AN HOUR prior (as told by my contractor). Confused, I called to ask if he could come back as I had some instructions and questions to discuss with him. I, again, spoke with the original woman who was already defensive claiming he waited for me for 45 minutes then left. I looked at the time, it was 12:25pm. I informed her if he had showed up at 12pm and waited 45min, he would still be here. It was at this point, she admitted he had showed up early to take the measurements. I then asked her why did he show up early. This question seemed to anger her and she said, "This project is off to a bad start so we are not going to bid on it." Riddle me this fellow reviewers, why would this gentleman show up early when he knows: 1. I am not home. 2. I am going to be late. 3. He has access to do the measurements without me there. I would argue the reason he did this is because he doesn't like people, doesn't like dealing with people, doesn't like talking to people. He is probably very good at his craft but would rather do it without having to deal with the customers. And that is why you are seeing lots of reviews about terrible customer service. Thankfully there are plenty of other iron workers with competitive pricing with good customer service. I ended up going to Go Iron Works in Long Beach and recommend them highly. read more

Had them install a new driveway gate. I watched parts of the installation. A month later, while cleaning the adjacent windows (Brand new house remodel with new windows), I noticed "specs" on the outside of the glass on 4 windows and one glassed window exterior door. The damage was caused from "spray" that came off of the grinder used to cleanup the welds. The metal spray melted into the glass. The insurance adjuster later found 6 of the neighbor's windows also had spray damage. After sending pictures of the damage to the company, It took multiple phone calls and two missed appointments to finally realize the "owner" was not going to come by to assess the damage. The work cost over $3000.00 to restore. The owner's daughter (office manager) finally said she could not say if and when her father was going to keep an appointment. I let her know the only way to recover costs to replace the new windows was to file a small claims case. It was after this was started that the owner left an email providing his insurance company's phone number along with excuses but no apologies... It took almost a year to recover the cost of damaged they caused. Neither my neighbor, nor I would recommend their services. read more

We are so pleased with the renovation of our large driveway wrought iron gate. West Coast made our custom gate about twenty years ago. It was in need of major repair. We had an estimate for repair which I thought was a little high. However, after receiving estimates on a new gate, over $5000.00 we called West Coast Metalcrafts again. Our gate is completely repaired. Rusted metal was removed and areas were sealed and it was painted a satin black. Our gate looks brand new! We can't believe it. I cannot say enough positive things about the experience I had when needing a hand rail for my back patio steps. The folks at West Coast Metalcrafts put my request in the fast lane for sure! We had a driveway gate installed by Westcoast Metalcrafts years ago and we really liked their work. A few years later our gate shifted (the block wall it is attached to moved) and was hard to open. They sent a technician out and adjusted the gate so it closes well. This week they came out to remove a 40+ year old wrought iron patio cover that came with the house. On the day they were scheduled to do the work they sent a text when they were 30 minutes from arrival. The crew was professional and left the area spotless. They had no problem working around another building crew working near the area that day. The only difficulty we had was getting a call back after we visited their showroom. The office person said we were sent an email, which we never received. But after we made a follow up call we were given a date for an estimate. Their price was well within our budget. I would definitely use this business again for any iron works. But I will know to be prepared to make follow up visits or calls to get appointments. read more

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS TERRIBLE COMPANY!!! If I could give them less than one , I would . Had a small gate made in May of 2016. It was just under $1200. In October 2018, I noticed a few small peeling spots, then by December, the paint was peeling off in large sheets. I attempted to contact someone beginning in the middle of January. Cynthia took my information and I never heard from her again. I called several more times, getting more and more irritated......finally she had someone come out and look at the gate. They said, "that's normal, everything needs to be repainted" THE PAINT IS PEELING OFF IN SHEETS!! The gait obviously wasn't prepped or primed properly and that caused the paint to NOT stick. She allegedly sent me an email (which I seriously doubt ever was sent-based on their terrible customer service) and want ME to pay them again . My driveway gate was falling apart and needed replacement. My mother-in-law recommended them and I called them out and received a reasonable quote. I made my deposit, make my choices (I kinda already knew what I wanted), and booked the job. The installer(s) came out when they said they would and got it done. Several months have gone by and I called back on January 20 and spoke to Cynthia. Told her that I needed a spring for the driveway gate because if it didn't close right, it would swing open and hit the neighbor's house (NOT good.) My Mom purchased a Gate Motor for her Iron Security Gates from this Company and wanted Installation done too. This motor was over $3,500 (very expensive)! The Installer (Raul) had to come out several times and to this day, the gate still does "NOT" work properly. He was also rude and had to be asked to lower his voice, as he started yelling at myself. I thought that was very disrespectful, as we are ladies. Overall, I will have to agree with the other "reviews", this company just has Poor Quality Installation. Therefore, "PLEASE" do your research first! I don't recommend anyone doing business with "West Coast Metal Crafts", unless you want to be taken for a ride. Other copanies said nothing would fit or they didn't do this tyoe of work or just no-showed. We went to WCM office, we looked at books, they send out a person to measure promptly, he asked questions about exactly what I wanted and he drew it up right in front of me -matching design of door and gate. About 20% down and they said 4 weeks to custom create. In three weeks they were ready, they came out and installed with great care, even bringing paint to ensure any little marks made during installation were created. We had ornamental iron work done to our front and back windows, a gate for our driveway, two security doors for our back doors (much nicer than the one you purchase from Home Depot, they even put it a doggie door). We were very happy with the results. I recommend to call first to make an appointment, then go to the the store with some pictures and measurements of your windows for example. They have books of photos that you could browse for ideas. You then choose the style that you want. The more ornate, the pricier it will cost. Cynthia will email or text the quotes afterward. Once you settle for a price, they will come out to measure and give you a time frame when the iron work is ready to install. We are happy with the work and the installation. read more

I always try to give the neighborhood guy a chance. I went against my greater instincts and walked in for a quote despite their three star rating (other similar businesses a little further out have 5). They said they could come out a couple days later to take a look but would call me back with a time. The day came with no call, and when I called them the receptionist said they would call when he was on his way. The receptionist called eventually (all communication took place through her), but I couldn't leave work at the moment he showed up. I let him know the gate was open and it was pretty easy to go in back and see the hinge that had come loose on the metal gate back there. She called me a few minutes later and said he couldn't get through the alley gate. "No," I informed her, "Nobody leaves their gates off the alley open, they would get burglarized. Just pull up onto the street and go through the side gate. My son is home and will keep the dog inside." So I never heard back and went in the next day to see if they had a quote. The receptionist informed me that he couldn't get in. He had knocked and knocked on the front door, she said, but nobody answered. "No, I said plain as day the whole time to just enter the side gate. Why didn't you guys call me?" She said he gave up frustrated nobody came to the door. At this point the man himself comes out from the back and starts yelling that I wasted his time and to find someone else. Many of their reviews are one star and complain about his lack of professionalism and his bad temper. Believe me, they are not lying. Reading through further I now see there are a lot more complaints about his workmanship, follow through and inflated prices. I'd advise you to take them into consideration. read more

We've hired West Coast Metalcrafts to create New Orleans French Quarter style metalwork for us three times in the past (most recently within the past month), and the quality has been exceptional each time. My great grandfather was a Danish coppersmith, so I especially appreciate metal craftsmanship. These gentlemen are true craftsmen. I've seen their shop and they way they work, in addition to the results of their work. Although I have some background in art and architecture and designed the metalwork they did for our front porch, I left the design of our gate entirely to them, and from an artistic perspective their design is exceptional, as well as the high workmanship in implementing their design. Attached are photos of the gate they finished within the past month, as well as the earlier front porch metalwork (sorry some are sideways -- they don't appear that way on my computer). We called regarding a stair railing for the inside of the house. Someone came out and advised that he only has a book with outside fence designs and that we would need to go to the office to see their inside designs. We asked if he had a book back at the office with stair railings and he did not. So why did he show up? We asked for a price range per foot as others provide, but he could not do that. He wanted to take a measurement but we said no, no sense as we don't know what his designs are like. A waste of time. read more

One star rating, is being extremely generous for this business. My girlfriend purchased a driveway gate, and discussed the options, such as security screening. When the gate was installed, it did not include the security screen, and was billed an additional $480.00, if the gate was to be installed as discussed. To add insult to injury, the 9' 6" iron gate was installed and hung from an existing cinder block dividing wall, with no wheel installation to support the weight of gate. Under the unsupported load, the gate soon began to sag and no longer would close and latch properly. West Coast Metalcraft responded to the complaint, but instead of rectifying the installation mistake at no charge, they charged the customer $85 more and welded a $3 caster wheel from Harbor Freight onto the gate. while this fixed the original installation mistake, the welding of the wheel into place made it impossible to change the wheel as it wore out after a year of use. Upon contacting West Coast Metalcraft yet again, to have the problem of the sagging gate fixed, the owner came out, and said the gate was fine, and that it was the cinder block wall that was the problem!!! When contested about the fix, the owner replied, take me to court, and flatly refused to rectify the installation mistake of his installers. The total cost of the gate, installation, and "upgraded" wheel was $1850.00. The Hispanic owner and his associated mentality over fixing a poorly installed gate, was as frustrating and as ignorant an encounter as any logically thinking human could bear. The quality of the work is fine but dealing with these guys is painful. They don't call you back, cancel appointments, communication is terrible. I would give higher review based on the work alone, but its a nightmare trying to get them to respond! I finally gave up and just got someone else. I guess they are so busy they don't need to give any customer service or communication. Use them if you are a very patient person. Perhaps ultimately the job will be worth it, but I ran out of patience trying to get them to communicate in a professional manner. read more
