    Good photo moment.

How has no one written a review about the amazing Charleston Open Tennis Tournament? That's bizarre. I'm about to rave about how much fun I had here. I just spent an entire week watching some of the best players in the world play tennis. The Charleston Open is a weeklong WTA 500 level tennis tournament on green clay and starts immediately after the month long "Sunshine Double" of Indian Wells and Miami. It's sort of the unofficial/official beginning to the clay court season which then extends towards Europe and ultimately ending at Roland Garros French Open. My hometown tournament is the Miami Open as I am from South Florida. After doing my usual attendance in Miami, I still was craving more top tier tennis and figured, Charleston is only a 550-mile drive north...why not make the trip and visit one of the longest running tennis tournaments in the USA?! I made the journey in one day (Friday) to arrive for the 1st day of qualifying on Saturday, April 1, 2023. I then attended Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for a total of 6 days! Now...that's commitment, lol, but totally worth it as I was able to get up close to some of the best women professional players out there including... Jessie Pegula, Ons Jabeur, Belinda Bencic, Veronika Kudermetova, Paula Badosa, Vika Azarenka and many more. Incredible for a 500 level tourney...almost all the top players were here and to show how prestigious this Charleston Open is...even the Tennis Channel aired from onsite along the grounds. In fact, I got to meet and take photos with Steve Weissman and Andrea Petkovic which alone was thrilling as I am a big fan of theirs. Let me give details about the setup at this outstanding Charleston Open... - For the first 2 days of qualifying rounds on Saturday and Sunday to earn a spot in the main draw...tickets were $10 and when purchased on Ticketmaster, it was $13.90 altogether. That's a terrific bargain! - For the first 4 days of the main draw tournament from Monday - Thursday, tickets each day were $35 on Ticketmaster and after taxes/fees = $42. That's fine because... - Parking each and every day was FREE! Yes, FREE! Holy, that's incredibly convenient because parking at the Miami Open was $30 - $40 each day...ugh. - From parking, they provide free transportation straight towards the entrance gates. You are escorted by either trolley or bus and it's a quick 5-minute trip at the most. Plus, the trollies/buses ran often so I was never standing around. And when leaving after matches, even as late as almost 10pm, transportation was still waiting for me no matter what! - This Charleston Open is located on Daniel Island, a charming southern inspired town located by highway (or riverboat if you choose) about 20 miles from the heart of downtown Charleston, SC. - The main featured court is Credit One Stadium. The 2nd showcase court is named Althea Gibson Court. They then use Courts 3 and 4 for more matches. And...during qualifying rounds Court 5 is occupied as well. - For me, I rarely ventured inside Credit One Stadium. I attended other matches on the outer courts to get a more intimate atmosphere and witnessing the players blast the ball up close. - Althea Gibson Court is a fantastic secondary court. There wasn't a bad view wherever I sat. - I loved the setup for Courts 3 and 4 as you can climb a staircase to a top level - Standing Only - perspective to watch both courts simultaneously and rotate back and forth for whichever match is more exciting. What a great idea for this Standing Room only section, which were the most popular parts about Courts 3 and 4. Btw, these courts have regular style bleacher seating with no back support. - My favorite practice areas were Courts 8 and 9 located by themselves. But here, you can absolutely engage with players for autographs or selfie pictures when they exit these courts. - Practice Courts 1 - 4 were located beside Althea Gibson Court. Although they weren't as accessible (imo) as Courts 8 and 9, still, you can certainly catch a player's attention as they walk along the grounds to and from these four courts. - They featured all sorts of Food Truck Stands and innovative/creative lunches for enjoying great tennis in Charleston. And of course, there was a Chick - Fil - A stand as well. - The overall setting was spectacular! Walking around and exploring the tournament venue was a beautiful thing! There were plenty of trees with shade and grass, really emphasizing the true southern charm essence. Although this is an important tennis tournament, the atmosphere was relaxed with tons of colorful flowers placed around courts including a number of lounge chairs to sit down upon for even taking a nap, lol...why not? Unfortunately, I have used up my writing limit space, so I'll wrap things up. This Charleston Open is my new favorite tennis tournament. I highly recommend attending if you're a fan of the game.

Disappointed- evening match with players that are not top of draws. You should always play best at night.
