    Fried catfish with dirty rice

I paid 20.99 via Door Dash for the fried catfish and dirty rice and instead got done dirty. When I first opened the bag I thought that I didn't get any rice but one I moved the fish I saw that they might as well not even bothered. Don't trust them for deliveries, the service they give to you then is dishonest compared to their advertised pictures.

Yams, macaroni and cheese, and greens are FLAVALESS. The service was just Ok, business was slow so the vibes was low.

I love the lovely food truck offerings! Really great food with large portions. Very flavorful, smoky, sweet, and creamy dishes. Super happy to have found this place! I'll order soon to try those delicious looking "parrain" greens. They look well seasoned and tender and not full of stalks. Let's get to the items, I have ordered from these wonderful people twice. Chicken and rice- 5/5 this smoky dish was super flavorful. I'm not going to lie, when I tasted smoke chicken I was surprised. As I tasted more I loved it. They put a perfect amount of that delish gravy on the rice. So good, folks!!! Yams- 5.5/5Wham Bam Yams to be exact. Sweet brown sugar and cinnamon syrup lies on the bottom of the yams so you can dunk them into. I think I tasted vanilla but I know I tasted scrumptious yam realness! Yumzies! Cornbread- 4/5- they have regular cornbread and one with what I am presuming hot milk. I got the regular because soggy cornbread is not my jam. The cornbread was good but I have had better. I would, however, get it again! Mac n' cheez- 5/5- Okay, Creole Flava! This was creamy, cheesy, and scrumptious. I tell ya, one of the best from a food truck/restaurant for sure. It's just so tasty with the perfectly cook noodles! Read beans5/5- So I thought the red beans come with rice but it doesn't say that on the updated menu. These beans are SO flavorful and rich! There is a pork product in these but I don't know what. When I get a piece though it is meaty and melts in your mouth. What you know about that, lol. As a Caribbean girl I grew up eating stew read peas with ham hock or turkey wings and flour dumplings. So, this was a familiar treat! The first time I ate food from here I ordered a slice of cinnamon pound cake. Cinnamon pound cake 5.5/5- really yummy and not too sweet. I could only eat a bit at a time. I'll be back soon.

Finding good soul food in a new city is a journey... and baby, I've been on one since moving to…read moreHouston. After 3+ years of searching for something that gives me that Atlanta-level comfort, I can finally say I've found a real contender in Mikki's Soul Food Cafe. This was my second visit, and I ordered the same thing both times--the meatloaf dinner over rice with green beans (and this time I added mac and cheese). That meatloaf? Listen... seasoned just right, tender, and covered in a rich gravy that leans slightly tomato-based without being overpowering. Poured over fluffy rice? Yeah... they knew exactly what they were doing. The first visit was a 10/10. The green beans were everything--well-seasoned, tender, with bacon and onions. It gave "somebody's grandma been cooking all morning." Now... this second visit? The green beans came in a little confused. I got more potatoes and bacon than actual beans. I'm talking hide-and-seek levels trying to find a green bean in there. Still flavorful, but the balance was off. And the mac and cheese? Not my ministry. It was very heavy--extra cheesy to the point where the texture and flavor just didn't land for me. I won't be ordering that again. Let's talk price real quick: $19.95 (2 sides) $23.95 (3 sides) At first, I paused. But once you see the portion size? You calm down real quick. These are generous plates, easily stretching into two meals. Now here's my biggest issue--and it matters: The to-go packaging needs help. That gravy on the meatloaf is delicious, but it's also very liquidy. When you order to-go (like I did for lunch), it spills out into the container and bag during transport. By the time I got back to work, my tray was covered in grease and gravy, and it made eating a whole situation. This could easily be fixed by putting the gravy in a separate, sealed container. Final Verdict: When Mikki's hits, it hits. This is some of the closest I've found to real Southern soul food in Houston. A little more consistency with sides and better to-go packaging would take them all the way over the top. Rating: 4.5 stars (9/10) 1/2 And yes--I'm coming back. Next time, I'm bringing my mom for Sunday dinner.

I'm going to give you an honest, no BS opinion here, based upon my reflections and observations. The restaurant occupies a large space, that at one time housed a piano bar; they've kept the performance stage, in the back of the dining space. I'm not sure if they use it or not. They serve cafeteria style, so you can save a bit on tips. I initially thought that the prices were a little stiff, at least for daily dining. At $18 a meal, its not in my affordable daily dining range, which typically tops at about $10. That is, until you see the serving size. My gods, it was enormous! My wife and I had plenty for the two of us, and took home enough for a third meal! Given that, it came down to about $6 a meal, which is a steal! So I want to commend them for great value! The food was displayed behind glass (thank you) on a steam table. Most of it looked really good. We were there around 6:30pm on a Saturday, and the meatloaf looked a bit dried out. The ribs looked kinda sparse--they were obviously what were left. We ordered the delicious-looking smothered pork chops, yams, mashed potatoes, and mac'n cheese. These turned out to be tremendously yummy, and they came with a couple pieces of cornbread, to boot. TIISF thoughtfully places to-go containers and bags in the dining area, making it unnecessary to return to the serving line to get them. A final note: the young man behind the counter serving up the food was very pleasant and personable, and even threw in an extra pork chop (I hope that does not get him into trouble...it truly served to cement a good impression I had of the place.) Food: 5 stars Service: 5 stars Ambiance: 3 stars I recommend all of my Humble, Kingwood, Spring, and Atascocita neighbors give this place a try...you will not be sorry.

They just provided a total cost without any breakdown of how much each item costs or how much would be provided. To trying it out: it seems they don't have their full menu everyday which is fine but might have changed my mind if they had all the items I would have ordered catering to try. I got the fried chicken, green beans, cabbage, and they're apparently award winning mac and cheese. The only thing I would eat again was the chicken which even then seemed unevenly seasoned between pieces. The cabbage was overwhelmingly garlicky whereas the green beans had no flavor. The Mac and cheese was soupy and seemed like I was jipped of the portion. Overall will not be back or catering

A small one crawling on the wall near our table and someone from my party saw a larger one crawling near the kitchen. And boy was it stuffy in there. I asked our waitress if she could move a floor fan near for some relief and to detour the gnats, she said she go ask but she never came back and when she did she completely forgot my request. We weren't seated in the greater eating area where it was cooler and maybe where the gnats were less of a bother. The food was delicious and homemade, you can tell it was made with high quality ingredients and that Southern skill that you can only get from helping Grandma in the kitchen. BUT the roaches made us lose our appetite. Such a shame. It seemed like the building went down. They don't seem to put as much effort into the condition of that place as they do the food. Dusty ceiling fans and crummy floors. I appreciate the homey vibe but it looked really junky, more stuff piled in unoccupied corners as before. I gave a lot of things the side eye, I mean it there has to be maintained asthetic. They charged an 18% gratuity on my tab for a party of 8 but I arrived with 4 people, the other 4 had already been there, paid and was almost done with their meal. Then of course the cashier/waitress still mentioned an additional, optional tip. I didn't think that was fair. At the end of it all she wasn't the best waitress.
