We were so pleased with the services Crescent Tide provided. From start to finish, they were the polar opposite of the company we had originally decided to go with for my brother's cremation. They charged a fair price of $995 including the crematory fee and everything. No extra credit card fees (or charging us $175 for the plain black plastic container the crematorium provides for free). And they actually answered their phone and talked us through the process. They were so helpful and respectful from beginning to end, and they even helped us file the burial assistance request with the county. I recently lost my best friend - my mother - who fought a long hard fight against Ovarian cancer. Her wishes had always been cremation and after much deliberation we decided on Crescent Tide for their services. When it came time to fulfill these services, they were absolutely wonderful to work with. Crescent Tide was professional from the minute they arrived at the home, to the minute that they loaded my mother's body and left. I truly appreciated the care and concern they took through the whole process, they even made sure all items on my mom where wanting to be with her because I wouldn't get anything back. They also had a beautiful large patchwork quilt that was homemade by one of the worker's mother's to cover my mother with as they moved her. I just truly felt the compassion and care from Crescent Tide. The other thing to note is the paperwork. They made everything extremely simplistic and easy to navigate, which I appreciate. From hassle free electronic signing to in-person options as well, they did their best to accommodate to my mother's wishes and my needs during this hard time. When her ashes were ready they had a nice selection of urns to choose from if you wanted, while also providing a plastic container with sprinkling remains. They also give the option for dividing up remains as you like at no extra charge and will even let you bring in an external urn if you have one ~ you really can't beat that! Pricing is very competitive as well. I appreciate the simplicity that Crescent Tide offers when it comes to just wanting basic cremation services. I'm not in California - actually Wisconsin. Almost 2 months ago I lost my beloved husband of 60 years. We had pre chosen CRESCENT TIDE to handle both of our simple cremations and I am so happy we did that. I could never have handled anything that needed doing during the worst time of my life. They were wonderful - my only responsibility was having his cremains picked up. I am grateful for the amount they charge compared to a funeral home - it was a huge difference. We could not have been treated with more compassion and courtesy at a time when it was needed. We opted for no funeral or burial and did a private family tears and remembrance for him per his wishes. We had a very traumatic experience with this business. Our loved one had prepaid Crescent Tide for their services when she knew she was terminally ill. After her death they were notified to come and pick up the body. We were surprised when a lone woman dressed in yoga pants showed up for the removal. She then asked family members to help place the deceased on a cot. She threw an old quilt over the body and asked us to help her carry the deceased to her van. For a grieving family to have to help load our loved one and carry her out to the van was appalling. We were extremely upset to have lost our loved one and to have to help with her removal was totally heartbreaking. There was no dignity or respect for our grief and loss. I will have nightmares over this for the rest of my life. Surely there must be a standard of ethics for funeral homes and this business did not live up to it. read more

The "director", Jen, who handled my sister's cremation, was always busy on other calls so never spoke with me, and never responded to any messages that I left, and ignored every instruction that I left her. No voicemails, only a telephone receptionist who "has to see if Jen is available", which she NEVER was. Spend a few extra dollars and go somewhere a little less shady and more respectful. PLEASE READ THIS before you consider going here! If you're hurting now, it'll be much worse if you choose this business! My husband passed away at the end of August and I decided to go with crescent tide for the cremation. This is a decision I will regret for the rest of my life.. I was offered the opportunity to view him before the cremation took place... I agreed to this, and was told I'd have an hour to be with him... I unfortunately was the one that found him after he passed away. I thought seeing him one more time in a more pleasant state, would change the last image I have of him that I'll have to carry with me forever. I was in disbelief when I was told I'd have to wait FIVE days before I could view him! This was on a Thursday I was told this. They kept going on about how they were too busy, and that because of the holiday weekend ahead, I'd have to wait. Well, I didn't feel comfortable about this... I didn't want to prolong the inevitable for that long, just for my own selfish reasons. I made the decision to not have the viewing... I was assured after making this decision, that the cremation would take place that day, or at the latest the next. I went through that whole weekend into the next week, wondering if they had done what they told me they were going to do... Well imagine that! They didn't! The cremation was completed on Monday of the next week, (Labor Day). As you can imagine, I was beyond upset by this! So, after I realized what had occurred, I contacted them sharing my disappointment. Initially I had a reply stating how sorry they were and that they should have saw to it that the process was completed when they said it was going to... And that they felt horrible for adding to my pain and greif... That changed quickly when I received an email from another staff member stating that my comments were demeaning. She also stated that she was "unsure" of what my purpose was contacting them about this! She basically went on to say that the job was completed, and that I had nothing to complain about! I was blown away by this, as you can imagine I'd be! I requested to speak to the owner... About a week later I finally had contact with the owner via telephone. He told me that he was sorry multiple times. He also told me that I was being "demeaning" to the staff about the situation! I said to him that his business and staff members are the ones that were demeaning to my husband and me!! I was in disbelief that he was saying this to me! He went on to say, "I had to go in on LABOR DAY to complete the cremation! He said this to me more than once.. Like he was expecting me to say, oh thank you for going in to do your job on a holiday!!! I also told him if I knew they were just going to disregard me, and perform the cremation the following week, I might have decided to have the viewing! My husband had already lost his parents and a sister in a short 3 year span... His one remaining sister also wanted to view him. The staff at cresent tide took this away from us... They did whatever they wanted, when it was convenient for them. I wanted to see him one last time... I had so many things I wanted to say to his physical body... He was the love of my life! This pls e came recommended by the SW at the hospice facility. Since I was from out of state, and not familiar with the area, I decided to use them. I was told the cremation would take about a week, which I thought was relatively long. Anyway, day 6 I received a phone call stating my brother hadn't e-signed the form they sent. When I provided his email they told me it was for "copes only", since he has the effects of a brain injury. I had a military burial set up for two days away. When I tried calling a couple times, I hit "disconnected " after being on hold for a rather long time. The staff doesn't seem very knowledgeable on their jobs, except getting payment Upfront. That's not the issue I had. I feel they dropped the ball and really didn't listen to my answers to their questions. Ii also contacted the hospice facility and notified them of the issues I had with this company. In the past, we have chosen cremation and have had Zero problems. I am not new to this process. I would NOT recommend this company. If you do decide to use this company, do not pay in full until you're satisfied with their service. A stress I didn't need to deal with! From the very first call I made inquiring about pricing shortly before our mom died, to the point when they released our mom's ashes, the service was excellent and caring. I especially appreciated how transparent and fair their pricing is. There are no hidden costs and no trying to oversell my family on services. The price quoted was exactly what we paid, including very fair travel charge for being slightly out of the area. The local cremation service in the community our mom had lived in quoted a price of nearly $1,000 more. No upsales at any point. My mother had an urn she wanted to use and they transferred her remains for me when I came to pick her up. They kindly went to a back room and were back within five minutes. The cost was minimal, 750 for transporatation and cremation, and the standard fees associated with county death certificates. My parents had asked my opinion of cremation. They had been talking over funeral arrangements. They wanted to not spend much on their funerals, so they could leave something to my siblings and myself. I could tell my dad was uncomfortable with cremation, and would prefer burial. I did a search for "low-cost funerals" and found Crescent Tide. I read reviews on this site and others. They were all positive. There is a reason for this: Crescent Tide does a wonderful job at providing for funeral needs. I told Dad about Crescent Tide, and he soon printed up a catalog from the website. He was enthusiastic about having a low-cost option that did not involve cremation. He'd had cancer for several years, and was failing. As his condition deteriorated, I went out, and for the first time in my life, I planned a funeral, pre-need. Dad had a hard time accepting that he was dying. He was unable to participate in the making of arrangements, though he had the opportunity to view a packet of the arrangements I had made. I knew the responsibility would be mine when the time came, and I wanted to make the arrangements when I wasn't grieving so much. I worked with Joe P. He was so kind and patient, and also answered my questions honestly, and even gave opinions when I requested them, which helped a lot in my own decision-making process. Once Dad had died, I brought Mom in to finalize the plans. Again, Joe was so very, very kind. Communication between Joe and my family was excellent. When making the final arrangements, I had lamented to him that my dad had been such a handsome man, but he starved to death, which left his features very stark. His face was terribly sunken and his body skeletal. Joe said the mortician, Verlin, would be able to pad under my dad's cheeks, to fill in his face a little, and would also pad his body somewhat , under his clothes. The day of the funeral, I was amazed to see what a beautiful job had been done by the mortician. My dad looked good, and amazingly, somehow had ended up with the subtle smirk on his face he had often had in life! We actually laughed about this, because it was so much HIM! I'm sorry if this much detail bothers the reader, but having such a beautiful result, after my dad had been ravaged by a terrible illness, was so comforting. During the funeral process, and the next day at the burial, we always knew where we should be, and what would happen next, because Joe explained each step. He was the only funeral home employee at these events, but he handled everything smoothly and unobtrusively. He was awesome, and we loved him for it! We saved nearly 50% off the price of the funeral, compared to two other providers I had contacted before meeting with Crescent Tide. The people at the church asked about our provider, and said the funeral was one of the nicest they had ever been to. My dad looked good in his Korean War Vets jacket, with his medals and a medallion he had been awarded by the President of South Korea. Everything was so nice--simple and elegant. Dad would have loved it. One more thing---Yes, the services provided were very good, though a bit simpler than typical. We did not use a typical hearse, but used the blue funeral vehicle pictured on the website. And because the burial was arrange at Ft. Snelling for the next day, there was no need for a motorcade nor police escort. But I want to emphasize, though we saved money, the service provided by Joe and the others at Crescent Tide, was so very extraordinary, I think it could not be bought at any price. There was a spirit of service evident in all who we dealt with. There were hearts for service. We were so very, very grateful. While yelp is kind of a weird forum to review a funeral home, and a funeral home is kind of a strange thing to even review, I feel these folks need props for a really straightforward and sincere business that was a relief to me and my family in a time of need. The reality in life is that alas, you must take care of funeral arrangements for others a few times. I've done this a number of times now over the years, and had mostly mediocre and pretty expensive (sadly, even felt fleeced) experiences and lessons learned at other funeral homes. Crescent tide was really kind of a breath of fresh air...they are just so straightforward and easy to deal with. They are properly respectful and diligent, and did everything we needed them to do reliably and promptly and with tact. I guess the only really downside is that their actual location is hardly stylish...its a funny little office in an off-the beaten-path strip mall, so if you want a service in a palatial funeral home, you will need to make special arrangements with them. That didn't matter for our needs (funeral at home), and they managed everything exactly as we wished, were available for all our questions and concerns, and charged fairly and transparently. That was really a relief in a hard time full of many other hard choices, and so I am grateful to them and can honestly say they are doing a fine service and that I recommend them whole-heartedly. read more

My father passed away just a week ago. We were all grief-stricken with the passing of my dad. When the representative from this place came to collect my father he was slurring his words, he actually stumbled into the house. We still couldn't grasp the fact that a "professional " would show up to take our beloved father and drive him while under the influence. My two brothers and I had to help this person get my father out of the house. I had to hold this person up from falling several times before we made it to the vehicle. I could smell alcohol on this person. If we would have been thinking clearly we would have called the police. We should not have been put in this position to begin with. Verlin was absolutely wonderful with all the details concerning my Mom's cremation. He picked up my mom's body at the nursing home and was courteous and respectful of that hard time for me and my family. And the quilt on the gurney was homemade (by his grandmother, I think) which gave a little loving touch to the process.
