I'd give AR Williams a mixed but fair review…read more I initially called because I have a 7 to 8 year old Mitsubishi mini split in my garage that had stopped cooling. After calling several other HVAC companies that weren't interested in working on a mini split, someone else in the construction industry recommended AR Williams. When I first called, I was told they generally don't work on mini splits either. After explaining that I also had a conventional split system in my house that needed attention and that I wasn't interested in hiring two different companies, they agreed to come out and look at both systems. The technician who came out was excellent. He was professional, courteous, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain what he was seeing. He quickly determined that the mini split had lost its refrigerant charge. After adding R-410A, we were immediately able to hear the leak coming from the indoor head unit, confirming the system had a refrigerant leak. At that point, he discussed replacement options. They preferred replacing the system rather than repairing an older R-410A unit, while I decided I'd rather look into sourcing a replacement indoor head myself. My only real complaint is the pricing model. The technician spent roughly an hour and a half at my house, and the bill came to just over $600. Coming from the construction and service industry myself, I'm accustomed to straightforward hourly labor plus material markup. AR Williams uses flat-rate, software-based pricing where each task has a predetermined price regardless of how long it takes or the actual material cost. That's simply not a pricing model I'm personally comfortable with. I don't have any complaints about the technician or the professionalism of the visit. In fact, I'd happily have him back. My decision not to use AR Williams again is based solely on their pricing structure, not the quality of the people they employ. If you're comfortable with flat-rate pricing, you may have a different experience than I did. It just isn't the right fit for me.

First setting the appointment was a breeze with an instant text confirmation. I received a confirmation text when the tech was enroute. Tech was friendly and knowledgeable. He explained the issue and how he would fix it. This was a new home I bought 7 months ago and the previous owner apparently didn't do many services on the unit. He thoroughly cleaned growth that was discovered which I absolutely appreciated as my son has allergies. He called the owner "Adam" to get some pricing for a new unit installation. This ac of mine is 11 years old. So, it will be time to replace. The tech had me up and running within 30 minutes. System needed a flush to drain the pipes. Needed a cleaning. All done for a super reasonable price. They offered me about 8 options for a new AC unit and handled that ranged for Savings to super delux but did not push for a sale. Simply explained the benefits of each system. They honestly didn't have an issue recommending and suggesting a cost savings unit. So they aren't trying to bleed you dry by selling you expensive things you don't need. I greatly appreciate that. Lastly, this company is out of Lake Worth in West Palm Beach and I'm in Port Saint Lucie. They have no issues driving the hour to reach me. If you have an AC issue and want a friendly company that you can trust, give this company a call. Honest, professional , and very reasonably priced. I will use them any chance I get. Thank you to all involved and looking forward to staying cool this summer.

I think I posted a review a while ago on Angie's List about these guys: you should avoid this…read morecompany at all costs! They are PREDATORS! In the past, we bought 4 brand new Trane central units for our house, thinking we wanted the best, most reliable machines. Until we finally changed companies, from the moment those units were installed and turned on, there was not a 6-month period where they did not require some sort of significant service/repair, beyond routine maintenance. It was always: "...no problem: the parts are under full warranty" but we had to pay the full service charges. The final straw was when they claimed the main 5-ton coil outside was leaking, after only about 6 or 7 years. Again: "...don't worry...it's under warranty...all you have to cover is the service charge...". We were very suspicious and contacted Trane directly. They informed us that while the parts are warrantied for 10 yrs by them, most companies offer their customers the option of extending the labor warranty to also cover the 10-yr period. This co. definitely did not as we would have jumped on that. We had another company come to evaluate the coil and the technician said that, try as he might, he could not make that coil leak at all. He explained that Smyth's scam is that they tell the owner the coils are leaking, they get a replacement coil from Trane, get a huge service charge to replace the coil and take perfectly good coil back and store it in their warehouse to use on another job. We then asked the new company why this one particular air vent in the dining room was making such a loud noise whenever the a/c was running, like too much air was rushing though it. They went up into the attic to check things out and came back down and said: "you've got to come up and see this!". What Smyth had done when installing the new air-handler in the attic, rather than running proper angled ducting, they used flexible ducting off the air handler and because the initial angle was too acute for that kind of ducting, it folded, crimping off the entire run of ducting, so that the entire output of the air handler was being forced into that 1st small air vent! I took photos of the before and after the new company ran new - correct - ducting...what a huge difference it made in the cooling of the entire house! And, finally, when we were ready to sell the house, the inspector's report showed that "whoever had installed the air handler in the attic" had literally cut a piece out of one of the main trusses! I would avoid this company like the plague because that's what they are: a plague on the legitimate, trustworthy, reliable a/c service industry of S. Fla. I welcome the owner of this business to comment on this review... a legitimate business owner, who cares at all about his reputation, would be mortified about an awful review like this. I predict there will be no reply...
