Was here yesterday and today with some friends, catching up for the holidays. We come here every now and then, and it never disappoints. Wings and burgers are great, drinks are simple and get the job done, and the bartenders are on it. It's always nice to see familiar faces behind the bar too. The bartender (Marino) tonight has been here for a while and he makes everyone feel like they're regulars, no matter how busy or slow it is. Zero complaints. Is this a dive bar? Heck yeah!! Is this a hole in the wall type of place? You betcha!! You expect to be seated, just sit your ass down. You want to order food? Get your ass up off of that bar stool or booth and go order something. Menu is on the wall behind the bar. You want a drink, talk to the girl behind the bar. Free hot dogs during Monday Night Football. Taco Tuesday does exist here. Free Wi-Fi available for all you millennials. Call it whatever you want to call it. For a bar, it's a pretty big place where you still have room to walk by people. I can only laugh at some of these other reviews before I started writing mine. The complaints seem like they expect service like a restaurant. It's a dive, it's been here for ages. Steak dinners used to be $8.99 but I'm sure this is the only price hike happening only in the past few years. It is now $9.49 for a steak dinner. You get a nice salad, a baked potato, a piece of meat I call steak. Everything is fresh where some places still serve old rotten pieces of lettuce with their salads. That's how you get sick. Not the case here because I could eat a whole plate of just the salad but I'm really here for the steak. It's tender, no frills, all thrills. You want seasoning? You want sauces? Go somewhere else. It's $10 for this plate. You can get all the butter and sour cream for your potato that you want. I prefer extra dressing. I guess I'm a purist when it comes to good fresh food made to order. Burgers are $5 for the Big "D" with cheese and a salad or chips. Drinks are the same way. I could only imagine the prices have not changed for this decade. A couple of beers for $3 or $4 depending on domestic or import. Mixed drinks are hovering $6, what a deal. What a steal... this is where you could say, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Service was alright until the waitress lost the $40 part of our check. And she had the nerve to give us attitude. Unless you want them to take your money and come back saying you didn't pay, DON'T RECOMMEND. Mike was more sympathetic but not cool at the end of the day. She's some older lady with a bad attitude, and she's drinking, so beware, she's not up to standards. Bartender barely wanted to assist me when I tried to order a couple of sodas and looked bothered to get the drinks. read more

Easy 3.5 stars. Going through the nondescript front door of the Crest Lounge is like entering a time machine. All of a sudden you're somewhere in Kentucky or Ohio in the late 1960s and it's not just the décor, but the people sitting at the bar, who look like members of a generation that refuses to die (they're also overwhelmingly "Caucasian"). This is a part of Temple City that hasn't given up resisting the big demographic changes in the area and it's a holdout from older days. That said, everybody's pretty cool, especially the waitresses and Adam, whom I believe is the cook. He came to our table various times to check on us & even sat & chatted for a minute. Nice guy. Then there's the food, at ridiculously low prices. You get a steak dinner with salad and baked potato for $9.49 as of this writing. The steak is generous and was cooked just right as was the baked potato, and the salad greens were crisp and fresh. Drinks are generous and cheap, too, making this joint a winner all around. The pool table is free and this is a big Dodgers fan hangout so it doesn't get much better than a tasty steak dinner and drinks at prices that won't render the pocketbook unconscious (oh, and cash only, btw) while you watch the ball game. Try flagging down a person just to get a seat even though the booths are empty. Once seated, it takes awhile for them to notice you. Now, I didn't know that there's no menu to look at. The menu is on the wall at a distance and in dingy lighting. I guess that you can stand up and walk a little closer to see the menu. My friends enjoyed their burgers and they did look good. I had the rib eye steak with baked potato which was decent. Good thing I ordered extra butter and sour cream, because even that wasn't enough. Try getting refills on my drinks (sodas). Impossible! 8.99 plus tax steak meal?! I'm not going to complain about the price because that's a steel! Steak meal comes with salad and potatoe or if you don't want the potatoe, they let you double the salad at no cost. Not to mention, they also serve 1/2 cheeseburgers with either salad or chip for $4.65. If only want the burger then its around $4.35. All I can say is, cheap! The crowd is in their 30-40s BUT... Sometimes there are groups of youngins hanging around too. This place is not JUST a bar, its also a resturant so try not to make a fool of yourself around the family's who comes here to eat. This place provides snacks for purchase like... Chips, popcorn (.75cents) , corn dog ($1.25), jalapenos poppers, and wings. So much snacks to munch on while there's a full bar. I really hate giving bad reviews especially when I really liked the place. But I will never step to that place again and I will make sure people hears my experience. Last Friday we arrived at 7:30 and got a table. We waited for 25 mins for the waitress to help us. ( she's is the only waitress older lady). I seen her helping every table in the exception of ours. She started even cleaning the table right next to us. When I went and asked her if she was avoiding us, letting her know we been waiting for almost 30 mins. She made a very rude face expression and kept on cleaning the table. After she was done she came to our table and FINALLY took our order. We ordered two steak dinners and two beers. As soon as the waitress took our order she went to the cook and told him something, they both looked at us. Barbara the bartender made our drinks real quick and they were brought over. The bartender is really good. We waited over 40 mins and yet not refills and not once the older waitress came by to ask us if we needed a refill. Our dinners were never made. In fact the cook came to our table and smiled and gave us some type of hand sign that we didn't understand. Im sure he and the waitress were in it. We never got our food. This little hidden gem of a place was amazing! The food was as great if not better than was expected, especially for the price! Mike our server and later told us he was the cook actually took the time to explain the menu and the secret menu and insisted we tried the steak before adding sauce to it because it would offend the cook, hint hint, he was hilarious and knowledgeable and took the time to make conversation with us as if we were having lunch with friends. So if you still love America and don't want to see this place destroyed--this may be your bar. If you hate the USA, hate American flags, despise liberty, well...don't come here. Bartenders can be really abrupt until they get to know you but even after a few hours, they soften. Just come back on a regular basis or it will be groundhog day again and again. The food is rather exceptional. I think they may have the best burgers in LA when they execute properly. After a typical Monday bowling night at Action Lanes, my friend wanted to drink some more so we yelped up bars that were in the area that were still open at 1a.m. We originally went to "The Bit" cuhs it said it was open til 2am, but it was closed when we got there, so we went for the "Crest Lounge". Called ahead to see if they were open and still serving drinks, and the lady said yes, so we came right along. It was around 1:10a,m when we got there and there was one guy sitting at the bar along with a small group at the far end. There's chairs at the bar, a couple tables along the opposite wall, and a pool table in the far back. They have TV's at the bar playing spots, so it's a nice dive bar. Since it was so quiet (granted it was Monday night), it was a great place to just drink a beer and chit chat. My friend got a Corona and I opted for the bud light. It came out to $7, so that's fairly cheap for a bar. The only downside is that its CASH ONLY, but they do have an ATM in the store. Restrooms are also located right when you walk in. My boyfriend and I tried going here a while ago, but it was too crowded so we left. We tried to give it another chance tonight. It's a Wednesday night, so it was pretty empty inside. Upon entry, no one acknowledged us. The older white lady bartender was cleaning glasses, so we assumed she was busy. My boyfriend smiled at her, and she just turned around. She proceeded to talk to another employee and other customers all the way at the other side of the bar as if we were not even there. We waited a while to see if she would help us, but no one ever did. I dont know if it's because we look young, or she mistaken our gym clothes for gang clothing, but we didn't feel welcomed there so we left. The food looked good, but I would recommend going to The Station instead. The atmosphere and workers are a lot friendlier and welcoming. read more

This is a message for the owner of the crest bar. I wanted to let you know that for the last 2 years your employee Mariano has been telling people that your establishment is closed as early as 8pm. I have seen a party of twelve come by more then once ( a group of college kids) and be turned away . Now all the Sunday night patrons go to the temrose bar instead of your establishment because of being turned away so much by Mariano,stop by there and see for yourself if you can. When I asked him why are you doing this ? His response was " I don't like working Sunday nights" , complaining that he is to tired after the weekend to work sundays, So he was pushing , telling people that if your not hear ( the crest bar) before 8pm ,to not even bother coming,that he would not allow any more people in after 8pm. My mom has been raving about this place and wanted me and my boyfriend to try it out. Luckily we all had the night off last night and decided to finally go. In my head I was picturing a little hot and crowded dive bar like a few I've visited before and didn't think it was gonna be "ALL THAT". Come to my surprise, this place is actually pretty spacious and has full booths to dine in addition to the bar top. Great already! Our party of 4 fit comfortably in the booth and we enjoyed a delicious and affordable dinner! The steak with baked potato was so great! Also, a couple others got the cheeseburger and were also satisfied. The portioning was perfect (nice and filling), the price was great! (2 cheeseburger meals, 2 steak dinner meals, and an order of popcorn for $37), and the taste was delicious! The little grill area they have is so cute too. Out of all the dive bars in the area, this is by far the worst. Sure it has no atmosphere and no character, and is usually pretty dead - but that's not exactly a grievous reason not to go. The owner is incredibly rude. I've been several times; and several times witnessed him bloviating and just in general being unpleasant. The woman bartender is always sweet though. As consumers we vote with our dollars, and I vote not to encourage that behavior. The Station has the best bartenders and a sense of camaraderie, Tem Rose has some style, Silver Dollar has the crowds at night and varying scenes; I would even go to Paradise Isle before this place (even though it would probably be last on my list). read more
