What a charming little lodge this place is. It's old and dated but I don't care. The front desk gal was so sweet. When you walk in, the place smells of vanilla, not the old musty smell you would expect from an old building. We were greeted by a very nice lady who checked us in and let us know of the popcorn and coffee available for guests in the lobby. Our room was clean and spacious and comfortable. This is a place we have gone to for decades. Mostly it's been a good experience. They used to have free breakfast and complimentary wine in the evening. Those days are over. In many ways the place is less comfortable and homey than it used to be. It's a busy place, but instead of that leading to pride around hospitality, it seems the opposite. Due to changing circumstances I needed to cancel our reservation and was 20 minutes late calling it in. The office person said it was too late, no adjustment could be made. I had booked through Expedia and she told me to call them. They called her and she said I had screamed at her - completely untrue - and refused to accommodate. I was a little distressed due to losing over $300 by 20 minutes but never approached screaming, more tearful than anything. However since I'd upset her somehow I called her back, apologized, and she hung up on me. I did not try calling again so the reservation never cancelled from our end - there was no way to do this by website or email. The night of the reservation and the morning after, I received text inquiries and messages from the same staff person, almost accusatory. There seems to be no way to contact upper management or an owner so I'm resorting to a review. I will never stay at this place, given the lack of courteous customer service and defensiveness of staff. Also, this place is very rigid about cancellation so don't be late if you need to cancel, even by a few minutes, for whatever reason. Sadly I had only looked at reviews on the lodge's website, which are out of date. There is no breakfast and it seems into 2024 there had been warm hospitality. But later reviews on Trip Advisor and Yelp show a significant shift to complaint. Options are limited and expensive in the Packwood/Mt. Rainier area but consider another place if you can afford it. Otherwise, have thick skin. read more

Beware room #102. We arrived and it was a hotel within the Rainier National Park, perfect if you plan to spend a day hiking. NOT perfect if you planned on actually getting sleep and being refreshed if I'm speaking of our specific room, which was more a torture chamber than a hotel room. Picture going to sleep early, closing your eyes and this loud "twong!" Sound bounces around your room. And it continues mints after minute. We tried sleep apps, etc, but the sound went on and on. Finally at 1 a.m., we find the emergency bell at the front desk and have to go through waking up the hotel staff twice because they "fixed" the sound only for it to continue. It was apparently something in the laundry room adjoining the room that kept going off. It really sucked and was awkward for all to have to actually wake up the manager to get this resolved because sleep was impossible, and to have to do it more than once as the issue was not resolved. I can say the Inn did refund us 50% of our stay price, but after we asked specifically and followed up. read more

Awful. Was talking to a friend at about 915 and was banged on the door yelling at us to be quiet. Rooms have awful noise insulating. Please Make this place the last option you have. Also, the whole place smells like cat piss. People who work here are very unprofessional and conversational when having and dialogue. read more

Stayed here for two nights while hiking on Mt. Rainier. I was pleasantly surprised that the rooms were a little bigger than how they appeared online. But that is where the happiness stopped. The beds are soooo uncomfortable. I think if we just stayed one night it wouldn't have been that bad but coupled with the super thin walls it made for really poor sleeping conditions. We had some really noisy inconsiderate neighbors while we were there. The breakfast is okay but I would recommend going to Mountain Goat down the road for breakfast and coffee. All of that being said things would have been okay until the crazy cleaning lady showed up. (She did not look like she was sober) At 8:47 am we get a knock on the door and before we even made it over there she burst into the room. Did not announce herself or anything. I still wasn't dressed and my husband was just finishing up using the bathroom. We were not presentable in any way. She said she wanted to know if we needed the room cleaned but did not apologize for her poor behavior or that she saw us half dressed. Needless to say we were not happy. I spoke with the front desk and they apologized and we were told that that cleaning person should have not even been on our floor. We got the feeling she was scoping out rooms. We made sure not to leave anything in the room even though we still had one more nights stay. So all of that being said, if you are hard up on a place to stay and are there for just one night it might not be that bad. Don't leave ANYTHING in your room and watch out for the cleaning ladies. read more

This property is only driven by profit, not by compassion. When I landed in Seattle to begin my vacation, I had two messages on my phone telling me that my aunt was dying. I had to make an emergency trip to California. Because of the emergency nature of this, I was not able to provide the hotel with the 48-hour notice. There is no consideration given for special circumstances. Not only did I have to purchase a flight that cost almost $900 to go to California, I was out the almost $400 for the hotel room. The manager, when asked if there was any special consideration given for emergencies, she said she could follow up with the owner. But added, if it was up to her, then the answer would be no. I seriously doubt that the manager even followed up with the owner. I know that some individuals try to claim emergencies, but this truly was and I can provide evidence needed to support my claim. I understand that business must make money. But I cannot support ones that do so without compassion. read more

One of the cutest hotels I have ever stayed in. We were greeted by the sweetest man who offered us each two glasses of free wine and some water bottles complimentary as well. The rooms are very clean, beautiful, and spacious. It's right next to nature and in a very adorable town, so there's a bit to do around here. I'm hoping an elk walks up next to our window! read more

This place was clean, big, and a great spot for exploring the places I had in mind. The staff/management was very friendly and fun to chat with. I had two problems worth noting, though they may not be problems for others. I was placed unfortunately next to a very loud family with little boys bouncing off the walls. This disturbed the peace I had discovered upon check in, sadly. Otherwise the location and facility was extremely serene in setting. I would not hold it against the management and am willing to consider it an unfortunate encounter with inconsiderate, loud travelers. Additionally, I was never able to catch the wireless. Management said this was due to my hardware. I let it go quickly as I travel with a hotspot for just these circumstances, but if you are Mac-friendly, this facility may not serve you without some haggling. Those issues aside, I very much enjoyed the elk viewing that seems intrinsic with this location and the room was very clean and well kept. If you have a lot of stuff keep in mind there is a single point of entry and no elevator. read more

Lodge looked nice enough, smelled awful when we walked in. The people in our room were just talking, laughing, and having conversation after 9, owner came to ask us to quite down so we did and about 2 minutes later banged on the door as loud as possible and screamed at us and threatened to kick us out. We were silent for the rest of the night. At breakfast she then came up to us and yelled at us in front of everyone eating. Very very unprofessional. I've never been treated so poorly by any person let alone a business establishment. read more

This hotel is so loud. If anyone in a room near yours is awake, you will be awake. It's just the way it was built. Not the fault of the people running the place, I guess. Just writing the review so people know. Maybe if you ask for a room on the second floor you would have a quieter stay? Also, could be cleaner. We go to Packwood all the time for skiing. We just found this little place and loved it! The manager and his wife are adorable and very accommodating. They have 2 glasses of complimentary wine per person each night! The free hot breakfast in the morning is also amazing. Lots of bang for your buck at this place. I wouldn't stay here again. The bathroom smelled like urine and it drifted into the room. There was only one end table, so the other side of the bed didn't have one. Not enough outlets and they were not placed in spots that fit the layout of the furniture. There wasn't a ceiling light so when you first walk in, it's pretty dark. It was just average. read more

As a traveling healthcare worker I stay in hotels often. I arrived late and my key was in a lockbox outside, no attendees at night. I got to my room and it was ok, not extremely clean but fine for one night. My coffee pot was unplugged and would only work in another outlet on the other side of room, which I had to figure out. The clock was flashing and not set to the time. I put up the "do not disturb" sign on my door and planned to sleep in. At 8am I hear about 4 employees in the hallway and in the room next to mine cleaning. It would not have been that bad except for their vulgar language. They knew I had the "do not disturb" sign up, yet they continued to yell and cuss. I couldn't believe how every other word was a profanity. Needless to say, I will not be back. The employees have no respect for the customers, let alone the children I heard in the hallway when this was going on. You might expect this from guests but not employees! When I was checking out there was no coffee in the lobby and the front desk did not ask how my stay was...they clearly don't care. I WOULD ADVISE NOT STAYING HERE AND WATCH OUT IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN WITH YOU. Disgusting Crest Trail Lodge, have some respect!! read more

This is not the Ritz Carlton, hello!!, this is Packwood WA. On that note I don't think anyone has room for any complaints. My room was clean, and my pillows were not dusty, so I know things haven't been sitting around. Bathroom was clean, and the staff was great. I think this place is great. I would stay here again. I've been in many middle of nowhere places all over the U.S., and this ranks up there as one of the top in my experiences. I've stayed in the best middle of nowhere USA had to offer hotels, that aren't as clean and nice as my experience here.. Too bad one person had a bad time here? Clean, warm and welcoming. Our plans at another location fell through and we rang the doorbell at the Crest Trail Lodge at 11:30 pm and were lucky enough to be greeted by the manager who had a room. Not only did they accommodate us but they apologized profusely that we had missed the complimentary wine! Comfortable beds, beautiful shower and sink area, fridge and freezer. Fresh paint in the halls, TV and WiFi all worked great. Keurig in the room. Breakfast with cereal, eggs, and a waffle maker, to name a few. Hope to return some day! read more

My husband and I were staying in Packwood for the Rod Run. When we arrived I was very impressed with how clean and nice the hotel was. We checked in and were offered two voucher apiece for a glass of wine that evening. We don't drink, but I thought that was a very nice amenity for a hotel in a very small town. We got up to the room and I was again impressed with how nice the room was. Not super large, but very well appointed. I'm going to admit here that I can be a bit clumsy and managed to spill a drink ALL OVER my pants. The only pair I had with me of course. I rinsed them out in the sink and started blow drying them. Of course we were meeting a friend in an hour and these things weren't drying. I was in a panic. My husband called down to the front desk to inquire about a dryer and thank goodness Donna was there to rescue me!! She met my husband at the foot of the stairs and immediately whisked my pants off to the dryer! Half an hour later they were toasty warm and waiting for me at the front desk. This service is above and beyond Yelpers!! I don't expect primo service in a small town in the middle of Nowhere, because it's not very realistic at times. But if you stay here, I doubt you will be disappointed. read more

We have stayed at this hotel 3 different times while we skied at white pass. It's less then 30 minutes from great skiing. Tammy at the front desk is so nice. She accommodates our ski club every year putting up with us as we take over the breakfast room. She serves up a great breakfast with eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, waffles, cereal, etc FOR FREE! Then at 5:30pm each evening we each get 2 FREE glasses of wine. I love this hotel and their very clean rooms and soft beds. It's very quiet with a private view out of the rooms facing back. Very pleasant stay. The room was really clean and comfortable. The managers are attentive and helpful. We stayed here for several days and the breakfast was always the same. It was ok, but it would have been nice to have it switched up a bit, even swapping bacon or a sausage patty for the brown and serve sausages would have been nice. You can get 2 glasses of wine in the evening, which is a really nice touch. The downside is the Wifi really stinks. There is no cell service for AT&T in Packwood and trying to do business calls while there was difficult because it would drop off more often than not. If it weren't of the hideous Wifi, they would have gotten 5 stars. read more

My wife and I stayed here after driving 9 hours. They offer two complimentary glasses of wine to go along with a very overpriced room. It has been redone to have that top class look but the rooms are anything but. There was red and black mold in the tub and shower, and when I complained I was told about how much money the owner had and had put into the renovation, and he also kept pushing the two free glasses of wine like that's all they REALLY had to offer. breakfast was terrible. everything was cold and the room was so small I turned down waffles because you couldn't get to the waffle iron. This hotel is nice. It's not fancy or super pretty, to be sure. The bathrooms are a bit small and whoever painted missed spots here and there, for example. And I had intermittent trouble with the wireless internet. But the beds are clean and comfortable, the rooms are ample, and the location is great for visiting Mt Rainier. I should also note that the breakfast was surprisingly generous for a place of this scale. But especially, I'd like to note that the couple that runs the hotel is very friendly and helpful. Honestly, you can't reasonably ask for much more, especially at this price. I'd definitely stay here again if I were in the area. read more

This is one dirty place..looks great on outside..but inside..dirty bedding, bath tub was filthy..I found out they do not change bedding regularly..I would give this a lower score but I had to give 1 star.The walls are paper thin, if anyone is staying overhead you will not sleep, and when we complained nothing happened. Only good thing was the breakfast...I would never stay here again when I found a much nicer hotel on the other side of Packwood. read more

We underestimated our travel time coming from Spokane, and the woman here at Crest Trail Lodge in Packwood, WA was so sweet - she stayed up late waiting for us and then was up bright and early with a great breakfast. Our Bernese Mt Dog was welcome. The room was well appointed and very clean - can hardly wait to come back through and spend more time here. Not super cheap, but worth every penny! read more

Hotel itself was nice besides the "strict" smoking policy, but yet our room smelled like smoke. It gets two stars because they state that they are "pet friendly" but have a zero tolerance policy for leaving your pet unattended in the room. They make you sign something that states they will call animal control services if your dog barks and they cannot get ahold of you. This policy is not on their website and we did not know about it until we were arrived at the lodge ready to check in. My wife and I have stayed at many hotels that are dog friendly, and never heard of this policy before, even though the guy at the front office (who wore a button up shirt missing a button at the bottom so his stomach was hanging out) says that the ENTIRE West coast had the same policy. I mean, maybe he's stayed in every hotel on the West coast, but I highly doubt it. We ended up finding a great hotel a mile or two away that did not have an unrealistic, or hidden pet policy. The Crest Trail Lodge did refund our money immediately, which was appreciated. read more
