Crews and Tangos is my first gay bar experience, and it was awesome! Came here with a few out of towners and they all agreed that it was a truly Torontonian experience. This is the first place that I've been to where they had signs plastered on the washroom stalls indicating "1 person per stall please" and there were urinals in the women's washroom. That was another first for me. I went on a Thursday and the place was lively but I hear it is much more lively on a weekend. The Karaoke was actually really good, I have to say that gay people know how to sing. There is an upstairs area for dancing, which was really fun and a totally different experience than a straight club. The moves I saw on that dance floor was scandalous, and maybe something I need to keep in mind for when I will need to pull something so daring. read more

Look, if you can't have fun here then you can't have fun anywhere in Toronto lol this place is hilarious and the perfect place to go to celebrate a bachelor/bachlorette or birthday party. It's a divey bar for sure (the washrooms are unisex with urinals (eek!), but it's a safe and inclusive environment with reasonable priced bar rail and entertainment all night long. If you go during pride you'll see some pretty top notch drag performers, but the usual cast are a lot of fun and can carry a show themselves. Also, If you plan to use debit/credit there is a $20 minimum charge. I recommend starting your night here around 8:30pm (9:00pm cover charge starts) and then heading elsewhere after getting your fill of early 2000s pop hits and current chart toppers. I came in because of all the ruckus I heard from across the street. The drag show was highly entertaining and is what kept me inside. The bar upstairs was nice as well as the outside patio in the back. But I just stayed in watching the shows as the host was truly great. read more

Huge disappointment. Brought my friend to check out their first ever drag show and it was such a waste of time. We went to the first show @ 8:30pm with ivory towers and katherine dior (who couldnt even stand up she was so wasted), and stayed only until 10:45PM. The music was crap, out of the entire evening, only a few songs were played that the entire bar was dancing and rockin out to. The rest of the music put you to sleep and all of the patrons just stood around bored. Then when the drunken diatribe started on the mics, none of the spectators could understand the performers rants and it got really uncomfortable with everyone just looking at eachother going WTF!! THIS LASTED FOR TWENTY MINUTES! People in the crowd were yelling for them to STFU and play music, but dior kept just telling them off in her slurred speech with her eyes rolling back in her head. We had enough and didn't even bother to stay for the second show with new performers...... maybe we should have, maybe they would have known how to put on a proper show. There was one performer who was kinda the MC and started the show off for the evening, something Carlisle, sang and danced pretty good and had a great sensr of humor. Long rant, thanks for reading. The bartender upstairs who is the owners daughter STEALS MONEY from customers!!!! DO NOT GO HERE! The owner kicked me out for calling her out and I was not even drinking alcohol. I ORDERED A REDBULL with a twenty dollar bill and got 3 dollars back. BE WARNED! Owner also refused to talk to me about the issue and completely just kicked me out. My wife and I have gone here several time over the years. It costs $10 to get in, why I don't know. The performers are lipsincing and you cannot see them due to giant posts everywhere in the room. Much better things in the city to keep you occupied. read more

Let me first start off by saying, I love Crews. Whenever I plan to go out drinking, Crews is always my default. They have the essentials a) Great Drinks b) Reasonable cost 3) Great Music 4) Great shows. If you are in the mood to dance, you have to options, if you want to see a show (90% of the drag queens there are amazing) you can do that too. The only reason Crews does not get a 5 star review is sometimes upstairs gets mega hot! Also, if you go down stairs at times you will need to wait in a line (generally no more than 10 minutes) to get back upstairs. Yelp needs half stars too, Crew is def a 4.5! read more

Suggested to me as a place to go for a Bachelorette party, if you're into drag shows. The Bride-to-be had never been to one before, so we came here. That was a GOOD CHOICE. Came after 10 on a Friday and saw the shows downstairs. Bride got called up on stage, and ended up being talked about. We have that on video. Pros: Great shows, EXCELLENT DJ upstairs, good bar service. Cons: Narrow halls, stalls in women's bathroom are a bit messed up. read more

I just went to this place past Saturday... I must say if you are very drunk... it might be fun... Keep in mind that the security guard at the door are very rude... One of my friend could not get in because he thinks she was drunk... No matter how much she explained to him, he won't let her in for some reason... :S I can smell a little alcohol breath but that was it... She said maybe she was playing music in the line and dancing to it... that is why... The place has so many security guards... basically you need to get in line when switching the rooms in the pub... line up to upstair dance floor.... line up to coat checks... line up to back room etc... Drinks are pretty pricey consider this place is not a fancy place, $8.5 for a freaking Corona Extra :S Floors can get pretty sticky and dirty later in the night when people start getting drunk and dropping their drinks on the floor. Only highlight or good thing about this club is the drag show~! It is funny and the drag Queens are very charming and nice :P Also, $5 cover is no bad. read more

I went to this spot last weekend as I've heard a lot about it and the venue did not disappoint! It's definitely my favorite spot for going out in the village and the drag show was amazing! Drink prices were good and I was a fan off all the dance music. The only downfall was it was very packed and hard to move around, especially the line for coat check which was longer than I would have liked but I will definitely be attending again to see another show. I also like that the venue has two levels. Also, the place could be much better if it could get a renovation as the bathroom was dirty and the floor was somewhat sticky near the bar area. read more

Rudest security guards I've ever encountered. Three security guards (all men) took me and my girlfriend outside and started yelling at us for dancing on top of the speakers. They did not let us explain ourselves or say a word. We were not causing any trouble or bothering anyone but still three of them had to intimidate two girls that were just dancing around. Ive been to Crew's many times over the past many years. It's been very consistent in the experience that it provides. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone. The crowd is a good mix of gay and straight patrons, which is nice. Also a pretty diverse age range - 20s to 40s. I've met many cool people here of various backgrounds and with interesting life stories. There is always a drag show- but if you've seen a couple, you feel like you've seen them all. I was very surprised reading about all the reviews involving man handling security trolls because I have never had an experience like that, and neither have any of the people I have ever gone here with (and trust me, I've gone here with some real characters). Ive had friends get way too drunk; I had my gay friend get drunk and start roughly humping everyone on the dance floor; I've had my crazy butch lesbian friend jump on the stage in the upstairs room and make a sloppy drunk "show" with a couple of girls she found upstairs - no one has ever been approached by security. Crews is a crazy experience in a mediocre place. The bathrooms have free condoms and pamphlets on HIV everywhere. They also don't seem to be gender specific. They have a huge patio ! It was the best place ever when smoking was still allowed in bars. The staff does their job. Some drinks come out super strong- but that's not exactly a bad thing :P It's a bit pricy - about $10/drink ($1-$1.50) tip included. The beer and the mixed drinks are about the same price. The floor gets really sticky, but to be fair - this place gets super busy ! Don't wear your nice shoes here on Friday night ! Overall its definitely worth a visit. It has a unique vibe and lots of great people. Come for a diverse crowd and several settings - drag, dance, and drink (on the patio!). read more

Back in my university days, I used to come here every time I went out with a certain group of my friends. It was never my favourite place to be on a weekend but it sure as hell is interesting. I'd say the music is pretty good but then again, I like anything that I can jam to. The drinks are alright.. they are overpriced a bit but so is every club, so whatever.. no big. I don't recall much except the rounds of tequila and vodka shots that kept coming around. Just take my money. The drag queens and performances here are spectacular and definitely a must see around here. The lights are fun and its just a fun atmosphere. The crowd is great, very accepting and will party with anyone The bouncers here are ridiculous and act like this is their precious kingdom that they have to serve and protect. My friend was tossed out for no reason.. she was literally just standing at the bar and then the big burly troll grabbed her and said 'you need to go' ??? She was kicked out before any of the shows even happened and she wasn't let back in so therefore, our entire group had to leave as well. Waste!! read more

I have gone to Crews & Tangos a couple of times now and even visit has been positive. The price is right for door entry of $5. Toronto can be a nightmare for nightclub prices! Usually, I love this place but tonight I went to the bar and was greeted by a girl who could barely be bothered to take my order. I ordered two Corona and three shots of Jameson. The bartender automatially entered in a 20% tip on the machine without asking me causing my total to rise to 50$. Never give a drag queen any coins...I went to this bar and have for over 30 years. I had my last $5 (2 toonies and a loonie) and enjoyed the performer on stage so decided to give it to "her" as appreciation for the show. I went to hand her the coins and she missed the catch. What happened next was unreal....she told the DJ to stop the music, proceeded to yell at me in front of the entire bar for throwing coins and tried to force me to pick them up. I approached the stage to explain that I meant no disrespect and that was my last $5. Other people had given her $5 bills but coin was a disrespect. For over 30 years I took friends and newly coming out people there. I doubt I will be back. In a small gay community like Toronto's, this is really disappointing and pathetic. I was there about 8-9 days ago on July 24th- my friends and myself came from another bar where we were treated awful and had an atrocious experience- we walked in and immediately it was an amazing vibe!!! The Queens were performing and we had delicious well poured drinks and we saw the MOST AMAZING SHOW EVER!!! These gals not only were EXTREMELY ENTERTAINING, but! They were absolute delights! SOOOO LOVELY and SOOO KIND! The Host even took a pic with me!!! Well done!!! Five Stars for the BEST experience I could have asked for! My first gay bar. I like this place because of its simplicity. Downstairs is for men and upstairs for women. I spend most of my time at crews upstairs. There's almost always hot women of all ages dancing. The dance floor is very small as in what appears to be a room no bigger than my living room. But Because it isn't big it makes everyone get closer to each other and creates an awesome atmosphere. I've spent little time downstairs. It's mostly for gay men and straight women who like watching queens dance and lip sync to shitty music. There are a lot of couples who go to crews. They go to the zone which is the dance floor in the back by coat check. I've only been in there 2-3 times but it's not for me. Some people are not really gay friendly but they go to crews anyways. A lot of couples go there to meet other bi or gay women. I've been approached a few times for this exact reason. What I dislike about crews is the abundance of straight women who frequent the club and the DJs are mediocre at best. I mean it's a gay club I want to be around gay people. I want to be assured that when I see a woman that sparks my interest I'm not gonna here, " sorry I'm straight". That's what all the other clubs in the entertainment district are for! Oddly enough I've met some cool people gay and straight here. The black DJ has her moments. She's on friday night I believe. I've asked her to play some dancehall as the crowd was mostly black women and we want to hear some dancehall in between the pop crap she was playing. She said yes. 12 o'clock came not one dancehall tune. 1 o'clock came again nothing. 1:45 came nothing. All the black women and men where just sitting around waiting. We ended up leaving before last call. The Asian DJ plays on Saturdays. Saturday is the best night at crews. It's packed. The girls are hotter and the crowd is more diverse. This DJ is way better. She doesn't jump from track to track as much as Fridays DJ. She blends the tracks well enough. And she mixes dancehall with pop/dance music. The security guys are cool. Haven't had one issue with them. I've made friends with a couple of them who remember me everytime I go there. Same with the bartenders. Overall it's a good club if it's your first time going to a gay club. It has a little bit of everything for everyone. read more

I've had some of the best times at Crews and Tangos. The atmosphere is lively and fun, the drag queens are hilarious, and the music is always great. The drinks are reasonably priced and service is always fast considering it is a nightclub. The main issue with Crews and Tangos is the security, they can be very rude and not let people in for the strangest reasons. Multiple times I've had friends not let in because "they were too drunk" when none of us even drank anything. If you trip on a step or not answer the bouncers fast enough, forget coming in, you're "too drunk" despite the fact you might be completely sober. I've also had friends kicked out over absurd assumptions when in fact they were doing nothing wrong at all. The bouncers here need to get over their power trips and then this establishment would be a more pleasant place to visit. read more

I'm a big fan of Crews. I've been coming here for three years now. Feel in love with the place first time I walked in. There are three rooms & two patio. Front room has the drag stage, then there is the back room & 2 patio. You can go upstairs to find another room & in the basement is three bathrooms. They have coat check for the busy nights in the colder months ($2.50), next to coat check they have a small patio that I've only ever seen open on busy summer days. The other patio is the back patio. It's open all year round & has a few heaters in the winter. In the warmer weather they have a bar open. I personally LOVE the back patio when the weather is nice. They have a good amount of seats but you can still walk around & mingle. The front room has the drag stage with really great drag shows. I've always had a good time! There are two bars kinda around the drag stage. On busy nights you might have to wait a minute for a drink but that's not too common. The back room is most "club" like in my opinion with a big bar, darker room & dance music. A small stage in the back that most nights people just dance on but on Thursdays has karaoke. Top floor of crews is on the smaller size with a dance floor, small stage people dance one, a bar & 2 small single bathrooms. This floor is either dead or crazy packed. When it's packed it can smell kinda gnarly. The service is 90% of the time super awesome. The odd time you'll get a grumpy bar tender or something but that's fairly rare. The crowd at crews is kinda all over the map. Depends on what day you're coming to what time of the year. You have everything from singles to couples, groups of friends, gays, straights. Very diverse crowd. My favourite time to come to Crews is in the summer on Thursday, Friday or Saturday night. Some nights they have a $5 cover. I've never actually been to Crews in the day but I hear they have food. I want to check that out this summer. The drinks are pretty good. Nothing special or to ride home about. The prices for drinks are pretty standard for Toronto. I'd have a couple cocktails before hand if you wanna have a nice buzz & not break the bank. I always recommend Crews & Tangos to people when they ask me for a fun place to go. read more

Horrible service. Tipped the blonde, female bartender at the main bar extremely well and she was incredibly rude and dismissive. This is no longer your friendly neighborhood bar. They had clearly just completed staining the wood on the bar that day, we all noticed our coats and clothes had dark wood stain all over them after leaning on the bar; when I asked her what was up, she told me to "f*** off" and threw a wet rag at us. Really???? Completely unacceptable customer service. No wonder they are struggling.... I will never go back. Tourists please don't think this is how we treat people in Toronto. To be honest this bar is amazing and absolutely horrible at the same time! amazing because the women are just beautiful in there! simply beautiful! but Bad because the security in there is just RIDICULOUS! Myself and 6 other friends all agreed that there is just WAY TOO MUCH SECURITY! you LITERALLY feel like a patient in a mental ward that has been allowed to have a "dance night". everywhere you go there is security ushering and stopping you at every corner and stairwell. its absurd. For e.g while walking up the stairs to go to the top level ..i stopped on the stairs for no more than two seconds to look at the drag queen show and was confronted immediately by security telling me i couldnt stand there ...To MOVE!. bearing in mind the stairs were empty! On another occassion before my friend and I could even get our coats from coat check to leave the club...security was right on us telling us we had to move...move ...move...you can't stand here!....we were like WTH? we JUST got our coats ...what is your problem dude?!! simply wayyyyyy too much security to the point that you can't enjoy yourself. go somewhere else! Great place to go dancing. It's $7.50 cover and there is a drag show and several floors/rooms to dance. It's hot in there, though and quite packed on a Friday/Saturday. So fun, though. It's very casual, go in whatever, and have a good time. The bathroom and bar and all that was average for any nightclub, a bit of a wait, not terribly clean, etc. but honestly not awful, either. I'm glad to see, from prior reviews, that I'm not the only one who has experienced the abusive and power-tripping nature of the bouncers at this bar. The first couple times I went to Crews, it was fun. Decent music, and the drag show is entertaining. They were a pain in the arse when I tried to organize a bachelorette party there, but that's certainly not unheard of for a Toronto bar. However, the last time I visited, it was on a fairly quiet weekday evening. My friend and I were standing at the bar, watching the show, when a bouncer told me that I had to leave. Having just been served a drink moments earlier, I was clearly not intoxicated, and had not done anything out of line. I asked the bouncer why I was being kicked out, at which point, he and another bouncer grabbed my arms and tried to physically throw me out of the club. I fell to the ground and asked them to stop hurting me, but they refused to let me go, and basically dragged me out the door (spraining my ankle in the process). I have no idea why they used so much force on me - I am a small-ish female, and hadn't been aggressive in any way before they grabbed me. Even worse, when my friend tried to return to the bar another night, she was told by the bouncers that she was banned - even though she was not involved in the altercation in any way. Avoid this place like the plague unless getting assaulted by bouncers is your thing. read more
