I have never been treated this bad on a trip in my life. I have been to this place three times before, but this was my first time with the new owners. They placed new lights near the cabin we were in, but we were not going to complain. Then the water in our cabin was turned off, so we went to complain. When we spoke to the owner, he had such an unfriendly character. However, they seemed to listen to our complaints and offered to comp two nights for our problems and give us an extra night on our annual trip that was scheduled for this summer. We were happy with it at this point, and the lights that were shining near our cabin were turned off, so we thought things were going to be good. However, the the next night things took a horrible turn for the worst. We did not see anything happen and just assumed the owner listened to his costumers and decided to turn the lights off.
Instead, while we were sitting by our camp fire enjoying our vacation, the police showed up. They came right to our cabin and and approached the one African American adult male in our group. Yes, in the middle of the night, the owner called the police because someone messed with the lights he had just installed, and it was clear that he accused my friend of doing it. I have heard all these things about "doing _____ while black," but I never experienced any of it until now. Before the light incident, my friend is the one who paid for the cabin and spoke to the owner about the lights and the water turning off, and the owner promised us a refund on two nights for the problems and an extra night on the trip we already had book and paid the deposit for for this summer. However, after he called the police that night, everything changed because now, two days after we returned from the trip and called to check on the refund, my friend was told he would not be given the refund amount he was promised AND that our deposit for the summer trip would be given back because he did not want to rent to us anymore! I was shocked. When the police came and asked us questions, we were with our family and told them we knew nothing about the light. Meanwhile, on the other side of the river, another group was yelling about the lights while the police were there. Nothing suggested that we were involved, yet he clearly blamed us. I truly am shocked by this because my friend is the one who introduced me to this place, and he has been taking his family to this location for the past 10 years. He has spent thousands of dollars on vacationing in the same cabin with his family, and he has brought so many people to this place. Now, the entire tradition is destroyed because this owner is convinced that a black man destroyed his lights. Despite the fact that there was no evidence that we did anything. All we did was bring it to their attention that this place was great without the light pollution and that we had been going there for a long time and wanted to help. We are all highly professional people I have a Ph.D. and my friend he accused is a warehouse manager for a large company. Both of our wives are teachers and our kids are wonderful people. We have all been friends since before we were teenagers, and I can honestly say that as a group we have never been treated as badly as this. We work very hard in life hard and love spending time with our family. I am so sad and angry that I will not be able to go to this place ever again unless ownership changes because of how badly we were treated. Anyone who reads this needs to know that if you go to this place with this new ownership you are supporting a racist owner who does not care about the people who have invested so much time, money, and love into this place! What a loser this man is. read more
