Crimson DC is a neat little spot. Three very different vibes on each of the three floors featured here-- I recommend spending some time on each floor, if you have the time, and taking in the unique aesthetics and views. Pros: Ambiance/ overall vibe: Different moods and environments captured on each of the three levels of Crimson! On the rooftop, you get some really cool views of DC-- including the Washington monument and the Chinatown area. You can order a beer or snacks up there and take in the beauty of DC. The level you enter into is more of a standard bar, lots of TVs and seating and options for group accommodations. The basement is where the whiskey bar is located, and definitely has a more rustic, southern vibe (as well as many TVs and additional seating area). On the bottom level, as well as on the level you enter onto, you can order food off of the menu that includes several southern comfort food items. Proximity to arena: The proximity to the area makes Crimson a great spot to pre-game a hockey or basketball game. There are always a good amount of fans in Crimson having a beer or whiskey Good snacks and southern comfort food: I really enjoyed all of the foods that I tried here-- I got the pimiento cheese chips, mashed potatoes, and Mac & cheese. I really could have gone for seconds of them all, they were buttery, warm, and just really good especially alongside the harsher flavors of the whiskey. Large Whiskey selection: The Whiskey selection (most clearly outlined in the menus handed on the bottom/basement level) is pretty extensive-- they really have quite a few options, ranging in price-- some get pretty pricey. For someone who doesn't know much about Whiskey but went more for the experience of it all, I recommend the DMV flight, which comes out to about $30 and gives you about half a shot of 4 local whiskeys. Quick service once you engage a waiter/bartender: I found the service to be pretty speedy at Crimson, once you have put your order in. The food and drinks came out pretty quickly, and really all hit the mark. Prices: Prices on food/apps/snacks were really reasonable-- you can get some of the snack plates for $6-15 and the portion sizes were definitely generous. Some of the whiskey prices were definitely up there in the $50s-80 range, but there were also less expensive whiskey options, and also options for beers and wine and cider which I found to be reasonable. Cons: A bit unorganized in whiskey bar/ uncertain of process of ordering: The process of ordering food/drinks on the lower level of the restaurant was a bit confusing if you were seated at a booth or table-- you seat yourself, and then would expect a waiter to come to you, however it seems that they were really short staffed on waiters. With no waiter coming to our table, my friend and I went to the bar to try to order there, however we had to wait for about 20 minutes to catch the bartender's attention. The food and drinks came out quickly once the order was in, and I figure that the restaurant is just trying to do it's best with some staffing shortages, so I can't complain too much here! Rooftop service was fast-all around. Pro tip: Hit the rooftop around sunset for some beautiful sunset pics and views of the city. Other: Reservations: Overall I was a bit surprised at how large this building is-- definitely a fun place to come for a party (though I would probably make reservations). It wasn't hugely crowded when I went on a Saturday afternoon, and was easy to find seating for 2, but I imagine you might want to try to call in for a party-group type of reservation. Came on a Saturday night for a friend's birthday celebration and ate at a table downstairs at the whiskey bar. We ordered the: - Cheeseburger Deluxe - Smokehouse Burger - Fried Catfish Sandwich - Virginia Ham Board I really enjoyed my cheeseburger, and the fries honestly exceeded expectations--very nice and crispy. My friends also enjoyed their sandwiches; the BBQ sauce in the Smokehouse Burger wasn't too strong, which I liked. The portions were also huge. The prosciutto in the Virginia Ham Board was pretty good, but it didn't come with many crackers. Instead, it had a lot of pickled veggies, which might not be the vibe for some people. Not sure if I'd get the ham board again. As someone who doesn't drink much, I appreciated that they had a separate menu for no-to-low alcohol content drinks. The Corpse Survivor (citrus/lychee) and Spring Fling (fizzy, passionfruit/citrus/elderflower) were both really tasty. The I Love You So Matcha (no alcohol) was pretty good, too! FYI they don't let you take the actual glasses up to the rooftop, but they'll let you take them up in plastic cups instead. -1 star only because food and drinks took a little long; the ham board could've been brought out a bit earlier than the other food we ordered as an appetizer. The heap of salty hand-cut shoe string fries are the perfect side to complement the burger. Cocktails (5/5) - Get the "Mint Julep", "Space Cake", and "Ivy City Cider" cocktails are among my favorites. Mimosas are also very good. Crimson gives justice to the New Orleans mint julep cocktail, finally a bar in DC that can make it right! The Ivy City Cider has an interesting blend of ingredients that surprisingly work well together - sparkling wine, apple brandy, St. Germain, honey, Brut. True to its name - "Space Cake" is tastes like a dessert from the amaro and sugar that cleverly mask the moonshine. You'll feel a kick! Don't recommend the tangy "Paper Plane", the amaro nonino and aperol are overwhelming and don't balance out the smooth ambler 'contradiction' bourbon, even the lemon doesn't help! The seasonal "Seattle Hinney" isn't my favorite either, the smoked whiskey doesn't quite blend with the black tea and ginger beer. It tastes like aperol. Veggie Po' boy (1/5) - Open-faced and really messy to eat. The sandwich couldn't contain the portabella mushrooms and cooked spinach, they kept falling out while the bread was doused with mayo. Not a fan. I would save my appetite for the veggie burger. The spacious seating downstairs has a speakeasy whiskey library feel. After work, it can get crowded pretty quickly around 5:30pm. It's a nice spot for a night cap and closes around 2am, you can get late night food before 11pm when the kitchen closes on the weekends and 10pm on the weekdays. The rooftop has a stunning view of the Washington Monument, but gets pretty packed! Group seating is limited, so you have to get there early. There's also no table service, you have to go to the bar to order drinks and food. The line gets very looooong! The drinks are also very small pours and the food is limited. Recommend going downstairs with large groups. With a full bar and plenty of comfort Southern dishes, the spacious underground bar is my go-to happy hour spot! read more

I can't speak to the inside dining area on the bottom level, but am reviewing based on the rooftop bar alone. I took a large happy hour group here and everyone agreed that it was amazing. We had a charcuterie board and many drinks to go with it. The drink selection was great and the view was one of the best as far as DC rooftops go. Both times I've been here it has been a great experience. I was on the roof for a happy hour on a Thursday in beautiful weather and it was not overly packed! The drinks were great and the view of the city is wonderful. I met a date in the basement bar on a Saturday around 6 and the bar wasn't too busy. The bar was packed by 9pm. Slow service with a quasi attitude. Was seated quickly but the staff took some time to come to the table to take my order. In spite of having an extensive coffee menu only regular coffee was available. Instead, my significant other and I opted for Coca Cola soft drinks. Additionally no water was ever offered or brought in spite of glassware on the table. Food arrived rather quickly from another server and we asked again for the drinks. I personally like to have something to drink with my food and not afterwards. The man left in which I thought he would return with the drinks as I saw him go behind the bar. Still nothing. I see the waitress behind the bar and get up to ask about the drinks and she says the soda machine is broken and they are bringing cans of coke to us instead. I look behind her and see in the refrigerators cans of soda but those apparently were not for use. Finally, another server brings us the cans with glasses of ice as we were finishing up our meal. The food was good, so no complaints there as I had the shrimp and grits while my significant other had a short stack of pancakes. Alas, it was time for the check and to my surprise they added a gratuity of 18% to the check. I know that times are hard but they really had poor service and an attitude no less. Eventually went to bar to get a menu, couldn't even get that, another patron handed me one. Menu is really small, ended up leaving because the whole experience was just terrible. Pretty much there were a lot of people standing at the bar not being served. Bartenders apparently did not want to serve customers or make any money. Went downstairs to the whiskey bar which opens everyday at 5pm, and it was aesthetically more my sort of place. Dark wood, brass light fixtures, open space and attentive bartenders. They have 150 types of bourbon, craft cocktails, beer, wine and a variety of southern-inspired fare. What's great is you can tell the bartender what kinds of cocktails you prefer and they can concoct something fitting. A friend sent me a list of "Best Brunches in DC" and I picked this one to try because of location and option to sit on the rooftop. The 1-3 star reviews are all very accurate to my experience. Problem 1: Brunch was supposed to begin at 12pm based on the website. When we got there, the hostess in the main lobby of the diner said that there was a private event finishing up at noon, and we would be let up at 12:15 after the space cleared and staff could clean up. We, along with the small brunch crowd they gathered were finally let up after 12:30p. When we got off of the elevator, people from the private event were still up there, and commented "oh I guess there letting people up, we should go". So, not only did the private event commandeer the space past their allotted time, but the management staff didn't seem to enforce that they had other paying (and very hungry) customers waiting to sit down and eat. And they were still arranging chairs and wiping tables when the new guests came up. Problem 2: it took several minutes to realize that there is no wait staff. It is a walk-up ordering system on the rooftop, and not a single hostess or bartender or anyone let the guests know that. As a first time guest, even a sign would have been helpful. I asked someone who was wiping a table for a couple of menus I saw her holding, and she handed me one. When I asked for a second one for the other people at my table she said "well I need this one." I'm sorry, what? You work here and you need to hold on to a physical menu? So with our ONE menu, my friends and I decided what we want to eat, and eventually walked up to the two bartenders to order. Problem 3: you order your drinks and food together. The bartender will make your drink(s), hand them to you, take your food order, then hand you silverware, an order number on a stick to put on your table, and you alone are expected to carry this back to your table. I had to ask a friend to help me with everything, and we had to make a few trips back and forth to our table. Why not have one staff member drop rolled silverware to the tables with guest? It's the least they could do. Problem 4: The food was delivered by one sole staff member who messed up the first few deliveries to our table and others. He brought a ton of incorrect food to our table and started putting it in front of us while we were trying to tell him that these were incorrect. He then apologized several times and started moving with his large tray to other table, but left someone's burger sitting at the edge of our table for several minutes before coming back to get it. If it had been my food I would have been pissed that no safety precaution was taken to prevent someone else from breathing on my food. *oh also, it says in their specs that masks are required, they are not. Not a single staff member was wearing a mask. Problem 4: The actual food. We ordered several items, none of which were well seasoned. Chicken in the chicken biscuit was crispy, but BLAND. Steak and eggs were $25 for a very small unseasoned flank steak, and two unseasoned eggs. No salt and pepper was to be found anywhere. My friend ordered something with fried green tomatoes and said it was also severely bland. We didn't finish our food. The rooftop was nothing to write home about. If you are in the area and want to pop up for a happy hour to get some fresh air, it works. But it's just a bunch of industrial rooftops, nothing to really see. I was introduced to the diner by a fellow foodie/friend of mine and have been back without him to try out a few things. It's a very cute diner style restaurant/bar that is located on the main level of the POD hotel in Chinatown DC. Very hip and vibrant restaurant that offers breakfast all day! Yes you read it correctly . . . ALL DAY! The biscuit and jam is "grandmomma" good. The biscuit was flaky, buttery and moist. As a matter of fact, I gently removed each layer of biscuit and added butter and jam with each bite! Next, the western omelet with homefries. The omelet was oily, yet ok. And the only reason I knew it to be oily is because of the oil on the plate *slaps forehead*. The home fries were al dente and that really disappointed me, because I am a potato lover. I always want home fries with my hot breakfast items! But that didn't keep me from not returning. On my first visit, I had the Fried Chicken Sandwich with fries! Fries cooked and seasoned to perfection. The chicken was juicy, hot, and spicy how I like it! Oh did I mention they make their own bread & butter pickles? So yummy! The cheeseburger deluxe and turkey club are my go to sandwiches from the selection and also safe if you are wanting something to please your taste buds. The menu isn't much and after a few flips I end of with 1 of these 3 sandwiches. Crimson Diner has a whiskey bar too and it's on my list to visit. For me not to be a Gin fan, the Crimson Punch is refreshing and for only $7. Happy Hour is 7 days a week and breakfast is served all day! The staff here are friendly and efficient. Enter the POD Hotel in the Chinatown area and head downstairs to their fantastic underground Crimson Whiskey Bar. It's dark with plush leather seats with taxidermy and antlers on the wall. What cool ambiance to sip your drink of choice. It feels like a vintage-inspired den. My friend and I ordered the hush puppies and a grilled shrimp dish. The puppies were a generous portion but they were a bit dry. The shrimp was pretty good and came grilled and nicely seasoned. We also ordered from their vast whiskey menu. The whiskey and spirits menu is extensive (and not just limited to American spirits) and only fully accessible electronic device, but if you're a wino you'll be a little disappointed by the options. The space is very moody due to it's subterranean location, and there are lots of tables to accommodate groups. Happy hour runs 5 to 7, as well, for those that like to drink at reasonable prices. Our group enjoyed several Southern-style appetizers (hush puppies, artichoke dip, onion dip, and of course fries) which were very enjoyable and better than most bar food. When we went on a Wednesday at 5 they were very short staffed (2 bartenders for a very long bar with multiple large groups waiting) and you had to order at the bar versus your table. Yes, that may seem basic AF, but really that combo plus food is a little harder to come by than it may seem. *Especially in Chinatown* **Especially with a rooftop** During my visit, we enjoyed a few drinks in the vast bar and lounge-ish dining space downstairs. Prior to my visit, I would have never guessed how spacious Crimson is and how easy it would be to grab a table on a weeknight, with plenty of room to sprawl. They drink (and whiskey menu especially) is expansive, but there is a little bit of food and drink offerings available to please the masses, regardless of your taste. Unassuming place from the outside, cool insider hangout location on the inside. Upstairs they have a rooftop area and downstairs is a whiskey bar. The whiskey bar had a crowd even at midnight on a Monday, which made it fun for our visit into town. Best of all, it appeared that most people were working professionals (in typical DC fashion) so it didn't feel too rowdy or anything. The booths are intimate and allow for quiet conversation. I really, really enjoyed this place and am secretly glad Bar Deco was randomly closed, allowing us to stumble here. Will be back! read more

Now who would go to an urban location such as DC and hunt down a bowl of biscuits and gravy? I mean, really? Oh but I did. Having taken almost an entire day to get from the Augusta airport to Dullies, I was worn out and hungry. So when I saw "southern diner" on the front window and "whiskey bar" beside it, I knew either I was very tired or I had just found myself in country boy heaven. Though there are traditional diner booths I sat at the bar to look over the menu, and the bottles on the wall. It was a quiet afternoon so the team was stopping by to check on me constantly (no complaints there). County though I may be, my love for quality coffee compelled me to order a glass of cold brew. I also went all in on a bowl of biscuits and gravy. Let me encapsulate it as such; surprised, impressed, delicious, and full. I took my time with the coffee, as the aroma and the flavor washed over my tongue each and every time. The meal was a different story. I was too hungry and it was too good to allow it to get room temperature. I think I might have glanced in the back kitchen, in search of my Memaw. It was just that perfect. Now they did add a little DC flair by dusting with paprika on top (Memaw just used black pepper). It turned out for the best and I will have to keep that in mind when baking my own. It is tucked away inside POD so if you are visiting the city I suggest treating yourself by staying there then eating and drinking here. Oh, and take a photo as soon as everything comes out. This visit was during Covid19 and Election time not the best times to visit a restaurant but I will still recommend this place and definitely will give this place another visit someday hopefully when things go back to normal. When u get to this location, all windows and doors were cover with plywood almost looks close. There is a bell by the door that I definitely didn't figured out how to work it but someone was getting out thats how we got in, is a little confusing as there is a desk with a receptionist who didn't greet us. We wanted breakfast so she pointed us to the right place. Apparently there is a few options of things to do here other than breakfast. Didnt really did a research of the place, we just wanted breakfast and find it this place open on Google so we went. I love my Benedict eggs with that "canadian bacon" if I live in DC it will be a favorite spot for it at least for to go breakfast. read more

Located in Downtown D.C. (Chinatown) at the Pod Hotel, Crimson Diner and Whiskey Bar grabbed our attention with their "boozy shakes" window display. When we ventured in, we were surprised to find how appealing their internal design is, and how awesome their food and drink menu's were! We tried two of their drinks: the Crimson Mary ($9, vodka, housemade bloody, old bay, lemon), and the Kentucky Moon ($10, Kentucky bourbon barrel ale) float - we thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and taste of both drinks! If you're in D.C. and looking for an unique drink spot and diner, we highly recommend considering Crimson Diner and Whiskey Bar. We will definitely be coming back to try more of their drinks and items off of their food menu in the future! read more

I am compelled to reply to the owner's response to my previous review. Firstly, it was extremely sarcastic and profoundly unprofessional. You may be great at food service, but customer service is certainly not your forté. Secondly, I'm not sure you're aware of this, but not every potential customer checks the website of the restaurants they plan on visiting. Some, like me, see what is offered on Yelp and figure it's all well and good. Third, a 9 oz orange juice cup for $4 is standard? 12 oz. at any 7-11 is $1.99. 9 oz. of juice is barely enough to hydrate a kindergartner. "You're a Froot Loops guy, we have Fruity Pebbles". This is just nonsense talking down to me and, again, unprofessional. I said the food we ate was good, just not as expected. Finally, we were on vacation, we walked to your establishment from our hotel. The last thing we wanted to do is search for another place that MAY be close. Your response to me to "go find another place" is not exactly the slam dunk your perceive it to be. No worries, tho, the next time I'm in town, I'll be certain to avoid your place of business. The hostess was so incredibly rude and hostile at the door. I would've left immediately if I were not attending an event at the bar. The staff would aggressively push past people in the bar area. The speaker system was also loud and audible from a function in another room. This bar definitely has a lot to work on. The only redeeming quality here was that the fries were good. Unfortunately, not enough for me to come back. read more
