I appreciated the ability to drink SKIM milk, a rarity these days...thank you! Bottom line up front: I really enjoyed my time at the dirty habit. The overall cocktail menu was good. They had decent happy hour prices. And lots of great clientele. It was particularly a good location for an after work, kind of venue and happy hour. Unfortunately, I didn't try very much of the food only had their fries which I thought were amazing both fresh and perfectly seasoned and cook cooked. From a cocktail side I really enjoyed their old-fashioned and they're smoked old-fashioned. Ultimately, I would recommend and I will return. read more

Dirty Habit is inside Hotel Monaco. Gallery Place metro is across the street. The restaurant is elegant, upscale and charges a 20% gratuity. The menu is posh and limited. I asked if I could have a garden salad even though it wasn't on the menu. The server didn't ask if I wanted olive oil on it. We had a slight language barrier. The oil was a bit much on the salad. The hostess took it off of the bill. The roasted potatoes were awesome. They were perfectly cooked and seasoned. My friend enjoyed the grilled salmon burger. The server kept refilling the water glasses. I finally asked him to stop. I prefer being asked if I want more water. It was nice being able to hear each other during the meal. This is definitely one of the more overall elegant venues you'll come across in the Penn quarter area. Located inside the hotel Monaco the restaurant is quite spacious with several large bars and different sized areas which accommodate large group dining experiences or for more private intimate outings, and they also have a great outdoor patio design which I've attended a few local events at. I always find the staff pleasant and accommodating even when the event crowds get a bit overwhelming. The Sunday brunch scene is always entertaining and tends to feature dj's playing all your favorite r&b and pop hits. While a bit pricey the quality seems to be well worth it. I've had several really good wines there even during happy hour as well as the calamari and the baby shrimp fried rice items which were both very solid dishes. This past weekend we visited DC and this was one of the places we sought out to explore for dinner. Dirty Habit is very aesthetically pleasing and located inside of a hotel. The vibe is very laid back and luxurious. I did not like that the closest restrooms were outside of the restaurant on the 3rd floor of the hotel while the restaurant itself is located on the 2nd. But, the service was good and our waitress was very attentive. The food was good, but I did have higher expectations based on the reviews and photos that I saw. Maybe it was just the dishes that we ordered. While the experience was nice, it was also underwhelming and I don't feel the need to return. read more

Wines by the glass are limited but the bottle selection is good enough to have earned them a Wine Spectator award in 2024. They do a solid job with food. Very accessible from the Chinatown metro station, so happy hour is perfect for a quick work gathering or catchup with a friend. We ordered the calamari and had champagne for a birthday celebration. I was headed to Capital One Arena for concert, so I stopped by to grab dinner before the show. The server did a great job and she made sure I was in and out promptly. For my starter, I had the calamari. It was fried perfectly, seasoned with the DH spice blend, and served with a side of aïoli just like I like it. I prefer aïoli over marinara sauce any day for my calamari. The pop of color from the micro greens garnish was a nice touch. For my entrée, I had the pan seared scallops. It was four scallops in a beurre blanc sauce with a few veggies. The scallops were tender and the sauce was flavorful. If you're watching your figure, it's a great low-carb dish. However, I would've loved some rice (real or cauliflower), spaghetti squash, moe veggies, or more scallops. Lol. There was so much sauce and I didn't want to waste it. This was my second time visiting dirty habit and it was very different from my first experience. We ordered calamari, ricotta gnocchi, pan seared called and braised short ribs and the only thing we enjoyed was the ricotta gnocchi. Everything else was underwhelming. It honestly felt like the chef may have changed since my last visit because the scallops were cooked completely different from how I remembered. The service was also very slow, it took awhile for us to be seated, we actually had to find someone to have us seated since nobody was by the front desk. TL: DR - Okay spot to grab a drink/meal in the Gallery Place neighborhood; especially before an event at the Capital One Arena. Dirty Habit provides an interesting juxtaposition of an ultra-modern space next to the classic and historical Kimpton Hotel Monaco, to which it is attached. I recently met up with a bunch of folks at Dirty Habit before seeing Dave Chappelle at Capital One Arena. It was still warm enough to sit outside and there are various seating areas in the patio with firepits and other heat sources (see pic with reflective "fire place") to stay warm; at least until the sun sets. You have to walk through the main dining room to get to the back patio...and to me at least, the decor is just a bit too dark. In addition to the already dimmed lighting, the furniture and the color scheme of the furniture is also very muted. But it does create a vibe...that's for sure. There is a Happy Hour menu - https://dirtyhabitdc.com/menu - but the prices aren't necessarily on the "happy" side. Mixed drinks range between $11-$13 while beer and wine are $9. Not great, but on par of what you'd expect in DC. The on-tap IPA was fine. Had a nice hoppy after bite. We didn't get any of the food offerings, since nothing really appealed to us. But we enjoyed ourselves chatting and catching up before the show. The back patio does fill up between 5:30-8pm, and no surprise, that because you're surrounded by buildings in essentially a converted alley, noise levels are high as voices echo off concrete. Note: Restrooms are located inside the hotel and on the second floor, via the elevator. Would I make a return visit? Maybe, but I wouldn't go out of my way. There was music playing but not too loud too where you couldn't have a conversation. We started with the buttermilk biscuits and did the bottomless drinks. The punch on the bottomless menu is definitely STRONG, so I quickly changed to a mimosa. They also never let your glass go empty so you really get your money's worth. It's on the pricey end, but I think it's worth it. The dinner menu isn't extensive, but it includes something for every diet type. I ordered the ricotta gnocchi, which was really good. We ordered truffle fries for the table as a starter, and we all ordered different drinks. They don't have an actual mocktail menu, but the bar will make a mocktail drink if you ask. I met my cousin for the Pre-theater menu which is $56 per person for a 3 course meal and it's a phenomenal deal. The restaurant is located inside the Kipton Monaco Hotel and it's a beautiful. Parking is street side via parking meter and they also offer valet and parking garages are near by. Julian was our waiter and he was really nice and attentive he told us some of his favorite recommendations and drink options that would pair with the dinner. Each course is really beautifully plated and plays on your senses, especially the parfait dessert. I am not a tomato person, but I really enjoyed the tomato salad, it was like and refreshing. The food and drinks were great, but the service was rather slow. I understand how tough and short-staffed the restaurant industry is right now and I give them all grace. They were also really busy and there was an event at the Capital One arena so it added to it. They did give us a heads up that the kitchen was backed up when we were seated, so I added a star back for that. We ordered the Gnocchi and the Scallops. Both were absolutely amazing, however the portion sizes are rather small, especially for the Scallop dish. The pillowy Gnocchi literally melts in your mouth and I loved that sauce that comes with the Scallops. The Bok Choy was a welcomed addition. I also ordered my go-to cocktail, and Old Fashioned, which were good. I'd go back again and hope that as time gets better, that the service speed improves. read more

I got a cocktail, which was pretty good, but nothing too crazy or remarkable. For our mains I ordered the roasted salmon, and he got the soya short rib. The roasted salmon was pretty good, even though I had strangely some sensitivity to the salmon skin not sure why. The short rib was pretty good, but the actual amount of food was pretty small and disappointing. The desserts were pretty good, pretty standard. I chose the sorbet, and my friend chose the churros which I think were the better choice.
