Crippen Mazda in Lansing changed my Transmission that went bad at only 102K they put in a used transmission that is leaking everywhere. They did not seat or replace seals. Will not correct. Stay far far away. Second transmission being replaced now by another place. CX 5 transmission and this service department are both highly unreliable. Stay away from this place. They will say only 12k warranty or one year which ever occurs first. Then when you try and get it corrected they will tell you they can not get you in till months and push you out until your warranty expires. CX 5 unhappy owner and no longer there customer. read more

I had to have my air conditioning repaired in my SUV. I have a car warranty. The warranty company did not want to put in GM parts. They would prefer to install after-market parts, if I understand correctly, which they would supply. The gentlemen in the Service Department went to bat for me with the car warranty company and I got GM parts installed!! I am most grateful to Crippen Service Department. My 20 day quote turned into 5+ months... Then 1+ month and even at 12/22/22, still not right. Still having to deal with issues from Crippen. TRUST ME, avoid this place. I brought my 2021 GMC Canyon to Crippen for an estimate. I drove it there in July 2021 and received an estimate in body damage. I realize it was only an estimate and extra damage found would increase that time estimate. The estimated time of repair on the written quote I received was 20 days. I was also promised a loaner vehicle "no later than a week" when I dropped it off early August. After about 30 days, the vehicle repairs were not finished nor did I receive a loaner car. At that point, I started showing up weekly to check the progress of my vehicle. My vehicle ended up needing more repairs than estimated. Which I understand adds some time to the original estimate, but none of these parts were on back order and just needed to be shipped. In fact, the only parts that were on back order for the duration of the whole repair were the front red tow hooks. This was all told to me by the body shop management during my weekly visits. Weeks turned into months. I was patient and understanding for about the first 4 months. I understand this isn't just simple repairs, but my 20 day quote now is at 5 months. I asked body shop management if I was ever going to get the loaner car they had promised me. They replied, "they sold all of their loaner cars awhile ago". By this time I had no choice but to just purchase a used vehicle. I was running out vehicles to borrow. If had known there was no loaner vehicle from the start, I would have certainly gone else where that included loaner vehicles with their quotes and actually fulfilled that agreement. They lied from the start to get the business. At almost 6 months, I'm notified my vehicle is finally ready to be picked up. It is late December at this point. And upon pickup, I immediately notice a hand full of issues that include: steering wheel not in alignment, dust filled vents, multiple spots of over spray and orange peel within the paint job, some spots not even clear coated, some spots not even repaired at all, passenger side front door rattled like it was full of stuff and sounded terrible, door jam decals were noticeably off alignment, issues with the grill installed, one obviously bent tow hook installed, etc. A major issue was that the steering wheel adjustment was locked up and didn't move other than rotating (basically seizing up) and my drivers brake assist randomly kicked on while I was driving down the highway (no vehicles within 1,000ft of me). The headliner was not installed all the way and had obvious grease hand marks on it. The door way was off alignment and there was damage to my truck cap. I contacted the body shop that following Monday of my pickup date. I was then notified that some of their staff had covid and asked if I could return the truck after the staff returned in about "a week." I dropped the truck off after about a week and I didn't get it back until February 4th... and it still had issues! About 90% of the issues I listed above had not been addressed and in addition, the steering column had been replaced but now had a small tear in my steering wheel. Get this, they just dropped the vehicle off in my driveway with no prior notification and left the keys on my back porch. I eventually filed a complaint with the state and Crippen was found in violation after the investigation. They also demanded I sign a paper before agreeing to rework my vehicle for the 3rd time. I declined at that point. I ultimately took it to Shaheen and they corrected Crippen's errors. There was a significant amount of errors and damage to the tune of an extra $3000+. I reached out to management and requested to speak to the owners. And to my disappointment, I never heard back. It's clear there was little to no honesty or integrity in my vehicle's repair with an establishment that is supposed to be GM certified repair and quality. read more

I would not recommend Crippen for repair. I don't know about the quality of most of there work but they communicate poorly. I was patient with them because of general COVID disruptions but now after COVID has settled down, my experience is no better. This last time I left my Volvo Wednesday morning and said I wasn't in a great hurry but needed it before the weekend. That seemed acceptable to the service manager. I called several times but had to leave messages. Finally an employee called after 5 p.m. Friday and said they just looked at it, it would need parts which would take 3-4 days to get. When asked why I hadn't heard something like this Wednesday the answer given was that there were 15 cars ahead of me. The sign on the service building door (not contradicted by the web page) said they were open on Saturday. They were not. Crippen has some problems here. read more

I drove my car in and I expected to drive it back out. It was too expensive for me at the time to get it fixed so when I went to get it, it wouldn't start and I couldn't drive home. in my opinion, your people did not look at all avenues to fix my car. It should've been a minor module since I was able to drive the car there, but when I said it was too expensive, I couldn't afford it right now then all of a sudden nothing worked. Let me take this opportunity to share our recent car shopping experience. Our last stop was at Crippen Mazda, which should have been our first. Because at the dozen or so car dealerships we visited we discovered many had bait and switch advertising when we found they didn't have the cars they advertised. Salesman who couldn't provide us with the car we were looking for and one dealership was in Ann Arbor. After looking at 2 cars neither one we were sold on, but decided to keep looking only to have the sales manager who demanded to know why we were not buying the car his salesman showed us. They even accused us of wasting his time. So at our wits end we stopped to look at the Mazda's on Crippen's lot and was immediately impressed with the price of their cars and thrilled with the options that came on the car in our price range. What really sealed the deal for us was their salesman Brian who let us drive several cars before deciding on a CX50 for a very reasonable price. He was very professional and didn't use pushy sales tactics, worked out an equitable deal. The finance department also was very professional and competent. Overall I would highly recommend Crippen Mazda and especially Brian, as I said at the beginning. if we had went there first it would have saved us a lot of time and trouble. Thanks Brian! read more

I was gonna type out a big review, but just save yourself the time and go somewhere else. I've been through the process of buying a car here, the auto shop here, and now the service center. Auto shop took about 3 extra weeks to fix my car because of management forgetting about my car and not taking the time to go look at it and see what's been done, and the service center could not even service the car that I bought from them because the shop did not provide access to the correct locking wheel lug nuts. Took my truck to get oil changed and detailing. My appointment was at 8AM and I left my car for it's service earlier than expected. They did not finish their job with my car until 4PM- they only did oil change. They didn't even do the detailing. Through the day I tried calling them many times and they would not answer me. I called to check in my truck and they never picked up the phone. I almost was panicking because It was taking so long and they didn't get back to let me know how things were going. About a month ago I bought a brand new 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation package. I couldn't contain my excitement and just how proud I was to have actually purchased this truck. Edwin Kircus handled most of the sale and more than made me feel at home and more importantly, I was going to be taken care of that day and in the future. A month later- Last weeks strong storms brought down a huge 100'+ cotton wood tree on not only my brand new truck, but 3 other family members vehicles. Thankfully everyone was safe. One of the first things I did was text Edwin and he called not too shortly after, which I thought was awesome he made the time. Once I made the claim with my insurance company and everything I called Edwin back to see about them getting me a rental. MIND YOU, while being sold this vehicle I specifically asked Edwin," In the event I need to bring my car in for service or something happens, will you guys be able to take care of me as far as a rental goes?" Edwin stated that this would be no issue what so ever and "even if he needed to take me down to Enterprise to rent a car, they would have me covered 100%. Thursday I did not hear anything, Friday I got more of the same run around, Saturday I called and talked to the New car "manager" Edwardo or whatever it was, shows you how impressed I was with him, and he fueled the fire even more. I became more stern and upfront told Edwardo, "Edwin told me you guys would take care of me even if you had to rent me a car from Enterprise." He replied." Its not like we dropped the tree on your truck and how do we even know you are going to buy from us again?" I wish I was kidding but this self centered individual clearly was only worried about the money, NOT the customer. I then told him I intended to buy from them again or else why would I be on the phone with them?!? He told me Saturday he would get me something by Monday, today, 8-16-2021. 8-16-2021- Today- I talked to Edwardo earlier today around 1pm, and he said one of the sales guys, Al, was working on it and would get back to me in a couple hours tops. Well guess what? I was never contacted. Its one thing to maybe exaggerate a little on what you can do for a customer but when an Act of God incident occurs, takes out 4 vehicles, could have easily taken out the house and my family and myself, it is VERY frustrating when not even a month ago I purchased this brand new vehicle, bought extra warranty, bought gap coverage, was PROMISED I would be taken care of and offered a rental car one way or another. Edwin Kircus and Edwardo ( something like that name) are about as shady as they come and lied to my face and over the phone during one of the most devastating and stressful moments in my life when all they had to do was back their word up and they would have had a customer for life, more than likely 4 cars purchased from them to replace all the vehicles lost, and countless recommendations to do business with them. The worst experience ever. First the sales man was very nice and let me test drive the vehicle but after it was the time to talk about things bad on the car i had to talk to the dealer sales manager and man he was such an a whole with all what the word means!! He tried to humiliate me in so many ways just to prove himself right. He said i dont negotiate prices, you either pay me now or never after i told him about bringing the money and come next day. I told him what was wrong with the vehicle because i know infinities (and being an electrical engineer) but he ignored me in the worst way possible and i dont think he is worth the model names put on his dealer sign honestly.. Also, i went there for a 2015 infiniti q70 (VIN: JN1BY1AR0FM560741 that he advertises to be in good shape but here is what it has: front hood has been unprofessionally repaired and painted, the front grille and plastic cover are cracked. Wheels need balance and alignment and when i told him about those issues, he was so rude to the point that i wanted to cuss him so bad but magically controlled myself. Horrible experience - avoid this place at all costs. My car broke down on the highway and was forced to go here - they quoted me $800 for a $450 job, but quickly agreed to do it for $550 (sketch). Then they broke my brake system and they refused to pay for it and charged me $100, plus kept my car for an additional 24 hours before they fixed it. Then they broke my brake cap and charged me $17 for it. To top it all off Cara at the desk tried charging me %30 tax on my bill - when asked about it she couldnt explain the increase in price, blamed it on tax, then shop fees, then eventually took it off my bill. My boyfriend recently bought a brand new truck from Crippen. While in the process of purchasing his vehicle, he spoke in length to the finance manager about what would happen in the instance his vehicle needed any work done to it. It was stated to him that they would absolutely provide him with a rental if he needed it and if they didn't have one they would even go through enterprise to make sure he was taken care of. Fast forward a month later and the severe storms that came through smashed his truck leaving him without a car. He immediately called Crippen and was given the run around. Every time he called they told him they were still working on getting him something, 5 days later they won't return his calls. The manager of the dealership even stated to him "well we didn't drop the tree on your car" AND "how do we even know you're going to buy from us again". He had every intention of going through them for his second truck but will def be seeking other dealerships to work with since Crippen did NOT follow through on their word. read more

Well, they fixed my old Volvo, but it wasn't cheap. My wife's car is a 1986 Volvo 240 wagon, which is actually a hard car to find competent mechanics for. I used to live near Swedish Engineering in Ann Arbor, so maybe I'm spoiled. The parts prices are really steep, but that's dealerships for you. Labor rates are through the roof - they charged us over $300 to replace an oil pressure sending unit, which is something I'd normally do if it wasn't winter time. The real problem I had with these guys is how the service writers look down at you. They never explain what the repairs entail, how critical they are, and you can bet you'll never get any help for free. DON'T BUY FROM CRIPPEN BUICK GMC VOLVO. On AutoTrader.com I found a great looking 2006 Lexus GS430, so I went to Crippen website and choose a sales person Al Travis which was an easy deal for him because all he had to do was paperwork. I picked up my new car on 4/30/2016 and on 5/1/2016 I was getting ready to drive back home to Nashville TN and found out the car battery was completely dead. The car had the original battery (10 years old) so I had to pick up a new one for $126 including tax which was an inconvenience but I figured Crippen Auto would be a standup company and take care of that for me. Don't get me wrong I signed for a car bought AS-IS which means no warranty no promises but after being in the car business myself for eight years and after checking Crippen website which shows they do a 172 point inspection which in dealer terms means for any part maintenance part (brakes, battery, tires, etc) that is worn over 50% they will replace before the sale of the car. So I emailed the Used Car Manager Brian Watson and explained the situation and he replied back telling me things happen but he would give me $57.80 which half of the price of the battery NOT EVEN THE TAXES. On I went to my local Firestone for a free brake inspection so I would have an idea of what month I might need to change the brake pads, well I found out I need it all four brake pads. The brake pads were so low like 5 - 10% left that they already started affecting the rotors so I also had to buy two new rotors, CRIPPEN DIDN'T INSPECT ANYTHING THEY LIE which cost me $700. I didn't even address that problem with them because of the battery situation, I just wanted my title so I can get my new Tennessee Plates. So On 5/2/2016 I talked to the Finance Director Chad Eley because the F & I guy I dealt with was out of town, I informed Chad that my temporary tag expires on 5/15/2016 a Sunday and he said don't worry you will have the title before then. Today is 5/12/16 a Thursday so I have one more day Friday to get my plate before my temporary tag expires, so I called Chad. Chad told me that the Secretary Of The State should have already mailed it to me (LIE) and it would be there in time (LIE), I informed him I was in the Michigan Car Biz for years and the SOS doesn't mail titles to the customer it goes back to the dealership to handle that, he informed me if I get pulled over after the 15th just show them the paperwork and I won't get a ticket (LIE) ( I guess Chad studies Tennessee Law and knows that police offices always listens to a stories instead of State paperwork that says EXPIRED), he called me back five minutes later to tell me that Al mailed my title yesterday I guess my car experience was still up to date and he was told by Brian Watson and the office manager that they can't next day mail me a temp tag so I can safely drive my car until the title arrives and if I get pulled over that they would pay my ticket (LIE). I would NOT recommend doing business here. I bought a vehicle from here and felt totally scammed by RD. When we came to test drive he told us the car was 10,700. Online we found it under their preowned specials. When we got there the sticker said $11645. When we heard 10,700 we jumped right on it. We were told the chip in the window would be fixed and the scratch on the side "lot dirt" what he called it. Well the day we went to pick up the vehicle we dealt with chad. RD didn't have any of this fixed and made no not of it in the file. I texted him that day and didn't get a respond till the next day. He basically called me a lair saying I need proof that the car was listed at 10k price. When he told me In person it was 10k. Then told me I need a screenshot for him to believe me. Even tho I have text to my father saying what the online price was. So if you are looking for a vehicle and it's a hood deal you better screenshot it or they may try and screw you over. I was in an accident and my insurance co told me to go here. I set it all up and went on vacation. I got a call saying they were afraid my insurance wouldn't pay. So I said I would and they agreed to fix. A few days later I got a call and they said they got approval from insurance but were still scared. I said ILL PAY IT!!! They said ok it will be done when you come back. I was gone for 13 days and it was not fixed. I spoke to the manager and he was a jERK!!! He said he wouldn't take any insurance money and is have to pay the whole thing. I said ok. Got in my car and he flagged me down. I said what???? He said I change my mind. I won't fix your car!!! I brought my car in because my low voltage light and my hood light was on in my car. The technician said that my battery had 2 dead cells and that they were giving it a "deep charge" and it would be fixed. I was charged $140 for this service. Two days later when I tried to start the car my battery was completely dead. I called a tow truck to jump start my car and let the car run for over 1 hour. After turning the car off and restarting the car it still woild not start. I called Crippen and spoke with Brandon Stroven at and questioned why the battery was completely dead 2 days after undergoing a "deep charge" and Brandon said that I had been informed that the broken hood latch would drain the battery since it was an electrical part. That was not true because if I had been informed of such I wouldn't have driven the car because I had another vehicle to drive. I also stated that I would have the hood latch fixed when I scheduled my next oil change and the technician said ok. He never told me it could drain the battery. Brandon did say that could have the car towed back to Crippen and they would take a look at it, but that wasn't possible since I live 1.5 hours away. I took my Volvo to Walmart and had a new battery installed for $180. I haven't had any problems since. I drove the car with the broken hood latch for 1 week and never had any issues with the battery. The technician at Walmart as well as the man body shop that fixed the broken hood latch said the latch had no affect on the battery. So I was basically lied to by Brandon who tried to put the blame on me. I don't like being taken advantage of because I am a woman. I will NEVER bring my car to you again. Your estimate to fix the broken hood latch was almost $600 and I had it fixed for $178. I was charged $140 to charge my battery and I replaced it for $180. I was also charged to have my brakes inspected and I have never paid for that because its always free at other businesses. Although it was an expensive lesson I have now found an auto repair shop that is in my city less than 5 minutes away from my home. I am very happy to support a small local business that has my best interest at heart than a business that takes advantage of women. My paperwork shows the part replaced they are telling me in their system it was a different part. Total LIE they don't make money on warranty work. Crippen is a shining example of why you never go to a dealership for service. I paid over $300 for a "tune up" which really just means new spark plugs. I was charged over $30 for each spark plug!!! I took my car to my regular mechanic to have him check what they did. He looked up the factory plugs my car requires and they are $17 each. I don't mind paying for good service, but that kind of price padding is criminal. PLEASE do not give your business to this crooked establishment. Never trust a dealership for honest service. I called to arrange an appointment to address a recall. I told the service scheduler that I would like to wait for the vehicle, not drop it off. She said they had an opening at noon. When I showed for my appointment the next day, I had to wait for 10 minutes until the gray-haired guy at the service area stopped poking at the computer keyboard and acknowledged my presence (I was the only one in there)!!!! He looked up my name and said "I can't help you. You need to see Brian." I had to wait for "Brian" to show up in the service area. I was then told by Brian that they couldn't work on it because it was "lunch time." I told him that, when I scheduled, I specifically requested a time that the vehicle would be worked on while I waited. He rudely said "we don't schedule appointments, that's someone else." Way to empathize with the customer you just inconvenienced, Brian! Great service- Not! I voiced my displeasure and he said he would see what he could do . Then he directed me to the waiting area. After 30-40 minutes, he returns and says "Can you bring it by tomorrow." Needless to say, I was done with them- Forever!!!! read more

We bought a 2015 Yukon XL from a different dealership in 2/2019. The same day we noticed it making a weird grinding noise. 3 days later our engine seized. We had it towed to Crippen for repair. Our engine was replaced but they were not able to diagnose the weird noise. We have taken it back to them since then every month. Each time with the vehicle being left there for over 2 weeks. They told us it was something in the exhaust. They were paid over $1200 from the selling dealership to fix the problem. Each time we were told it was gone, upon pick up we would hear the noise again. We spent over $2500 out of pocket trying to fix all of what Crippen stated was making the noise. The noise always remained. Our last straw was this past month. Crippen had the truck for 3 weeks, to figure out the noise and fix the running boards. I told them the motor was dying on the running boards. We got a call that they were not able to get rid of the noise and had no clue what it was. There was nothing they could do to help us any further. When I picked up the truck they said the running boards were greased up and working. That was a lie, the running boards still don't work. We took the truck to Shaheen, turns out our torque converter was making the noise and we needed a new transmission. We also needed a new motor for the running boards, Big surprise. All covered under warranty. Not sure why Crippen couldn't figure it out after 6 months of working on the truck or maybe they just really didn't want to work on it since their excuse was always "they were understaffed". If you haven't figured it out yet, we will NOT be returning to Crippen. read more

My Volvo was making a noise so I brought my car to Crippen. I told them I was anxious to get the car repaired because of a long trip later in the week. It took the dealership 2 days to determine what was wrong. They said it would take "at least a week" to make the repair. I called another Volvo dealer and they repaired the car the next day. My review is of the service department. I didn't purchase my Buick there and believe that to be held against me by their service manager. They are not interested in fixing non mechanical problems and don't care about the satisfaction of the customer as it relates to the general Buick brand. I attempted numerous times to resolve the same problem to no avail, ultimately being told by the manager that I could not bring my still warrantied vehicle there, despite never being anything but professional and courteous as a customer.
