We went on a weekday morning. Service was very slow despite it not being crowded throughout the meal - waiting to order, waiting for food, waiting for spare plates, waiting for the check. At one point, I got up to ask the bartender instead of continuing to wait. Pancakes were absolutely massive but fairly bland - with three varieties, they all tasted pretty much the same. Very little fruit. Massive amount of butter that saturated each dish and made them borderline inedible. The vibe is rustic mixed with old diner. Our second visit. Arrived on a winter Saturday just after noon and we were seated immediately. She had the Haley's Boozy Coffee and I had the signature Bloody Mary. Both were very good. We shared the Southwest Chicken Eggroll (ok) and the Corned Beef Reuben. The sandwich was one of the best Reubens I've ever had. The corned beef was very tasty, pretty lean and plentiful. The crisp on the grilled rye was perfection. The sauerkraut was right on and the thousand island dressing not over powerful. All in all, a great sandwich. After attending Grandparents Day at the country school in Madison, Connecticut, my wife, our granddaughter's nanny, and I stopped at Crysti's for breakfast. What should have been a pleasant meal ended in a deeply disturbing and upsetting experience. We waited an unusually long time for our check. When no one came to our table, I politely went to the kitchen swing door to find our server. Before I could even explain that we simply needed the bill, I was rudely gestured to sit down. I returned to our table and continued waiting. When I finally approached her again to request the check, she became extremely hostile and agitated. She screamed at me in a loud, degrading, and completely unprofessional manner, then told us to leave and never come back. Her outburst was shocking and deeply uncomfortable, especially for our 6-year-old granddaughter, who witnessed the entire scene. My wife was visibly upset, and our nanny immediately said she would never return and would discourage others from dining there as well. The server was completely out of control, rude & absolutely inappropriate. I am an 80 yr.old Orthopedic surgeon & have never experienced such disturbing behavior. We shared our experience with our son in law who is the local Madison hand surgeon who called to report the incident & left a message on their phone. His neighbor Marietta Lee knew the family & gave him their direct number. It is sad to say that no one returned the call. We heard this server was a friend of owners. No apology, no explanation. I guess they just did not care enough about their clients & rather chose to protect this out of control employee. As a surgeon I am accustomed to high-pressure environments, but I have rarely encountered such rude and emotionally unhinged behavior in a customer service setting. Went here this morning for breakfast. It was quite crowded but then again it was Sunday morning. We were (2) seated pretty quickly 5-8 minutes. Service was very quick and friendly. We ordered a chocolate chip banana pancake and a peach blueberry pancake with a side of sausage. That was the perfect amount to maybe even a little more for two people. The pancakes are huge but so light and delicious. Both were so good but the banana chocolate was definitely the favorite. The iced coffee is also quite good. Would recommend. read more

I've been here a few times, each experience varying. There is no consistency to the service or quality of food. Some times have been good, other times not so great. The menu is a typical menu you'd find at any diner spot, the extensive pancake menu reminds me a lot of Chips, which in my opinion is actually a better option. I love taverns like Cristy's. My first time here with a friend for lunch as I was on a road trip on 95. Friend had the amazing Reuben, an item they often order, as they live nearby. I ordered the steak burger and it was so good. A delicious blend of sirloin and short ribs. And very large on a very large bun. I also ordered a "side" salad that was so large I took on my road trip in a box--and it became dinner. Salad simple, and that is expected from a tavern. This place needs to be studied. I went here with my gf and the second we walked in, I was hit by a urine scented wall. I turned to my gf and gave a look like "are you smelling this?" but she didn't notice. The place was filled with people so I thought maybe I'm just crazy. We sit down and then my gf goes "does it smell like pee in here?" and I was like "YES - I thought I was crazy" but it was too late to get up so we ordered food. Our first meal of the New Year 2023 was with friends for Brunch. We arrived to a line and crowded restaurant but we were seated quickly and in a comfortable spot by the window. The restaurant is cozy and was offering a brunch and lunch menu during our visit. They have an extensive selection of pancakes which many seemed appealing to me. I went with the macadamia nut chocolate chip. The menu states all the pancakes come with power sugar and butter. The syrup is on the table. You are served one massive pancake covering the plate. I'm not a pancake expert as its usually more than I can eat because it's so filling but this was good. Really tasty. I can't vouch for the table side syrup because our friends neighbor in Vermont taps his own maple trees and I used that to cover my pancakes. A side order of the chubby sausage links (2 to an order) and the pancake won. I had to take some home. My husband ordered the Philly cheese steak omelet served with home fries. This too was large so he took half home. I think most take home as they have "to-go" containers stacked up ready to hand you. The staff was friendly and kudos to the bus boy who moved on full speed. Our friends ate the California Eggs Benedict, a sausage pancake. (he has some appetite!) while his wife had two poached eggs and a slice of French Toast. The only miss was the French Toast, they both tasted it and said it tasty grainy? Only conveying what they said. We happen to be in the area for the holiday otherwise it's a 2 hour ride for us so we probably won't get back there. If you're near Madison I'd say give them a try. We've been here a number of times and I'm kind of on the fence about this place. The staff has mostly been very pleasant but they are not very well trained. They do not know the floor or the menu very well. The food varies in quality; not just between visits but even on one plate. We had an order that contained 2 poached eggs. One egg was cooked perfectly and the other was very overcooked (like hard boiled eggs). We also had 2 pancakes. One was easily cut with a fork and the other was so tough it was difficult to cut. Pancakes here are out of this world. They have all the great combos. I love the creativity. One pancake is hearty and filling! It's always packed but wait time was minimal to be seated. First off, it was freezing in there and I only saw two fireplaces although there must have been another one on the other side of the bar. After ordering out drinks we decided to move to the bar and we already paid out tap for the drinks. The bartender, an older lady with blond hair seemed very annoyed we were there. No personality at all. Asked for napkins and she basically ignored us and threw up her ands and said on the other side of the bar. Ordered soup and guacamole ...The chips were plain, no salt and the guacamole was horrible. When she came to clean up and asked how everything was my brother commented that the guacamole. was not fresh and she argued that it was. She called a waitress over and asked her and she also said that it was fresh. IT WASN'T...but he just kept telling her that it wasn'et and she of course got annoyed and asked in a rude way what do you want her to do. He said nothing...You asked and he told her that the guacamole was definitely not fresh. She threw the bill down and took it off the menu and walked away. Didn't like her from the beginning and it was worse at the end. Why do you have someone like that working for you. She obviously hates her job. You open the front door and are immediately accosted by the smell of urine. I mean the scent is all consuming. I'm not sure if they have something wrong with the bathroom or if a local regularly urinates under the bar. I went once last month and was surprised that so many people continued to dine un-phased. Went back three different days while on our week vocation. First day I ordered the Salmon blt. It had a thick slab of salmon, ate half and took the rest home for a late snack. Next day I ordered lobster benedict (off menu) and enjoyed a large serving of the local crustacean. And on the third night we ordered the lobster bisque and clam chowder followed by fried ice cream dessert. Each visit was a great experience because of the friendly and attentive staff. Great, reasonably priced breakfast! The coffee is good and the omelette was amazing. We ordered the Chicken Fajita omelette with home fries and whole wheat toast. The portion was large enough that two of split it and we were both full. The omelette with egg whites was only $9 and only an extra $1 for the home fries.
