I was looking forward to having lunch at Chips this week, as I love their potato chips. My heart sank when my meal was brought out and my favorite potato chips were replaced with, chips they made themselves. Yuck! Please go back to the previous potato chips. Other than my disappointment about the potato chips, my meal was so so, chicken parm sandwich on a hard roll that I couldn't even cut with a knife. I wish I went with my usual cheeseburger, which are very good there. So if you are a potato chip snob like me, don't order the potato chips! read more

Had two bad experiences with a specific waitress, Linda, trying to get extra money from a tip. I am glad to tip because she took care of a good group. But when we asked her about the bill and tipping, she told us that auto tip wasn't on even though it was and it got 4 of us with extra tips. The tip amounts were unexpectedly low for some reason and we didn't know that the auto tip caused us to spend more money that expected. A 25 dollar turned into 41 out of the blue. Visited Chips last night for dinner. Upon review of my check, I observed that I left a gratuity but was also charged An automatic " gratuity that I did not observe on the bill. Chips is under relatively new ownership and it's been mostly nice witnessing the changes. They've done some tweaking to the interior to bring in more natural light (yay!) which is a welcomed change. The menu has been scaled down slightly which is barely noticeable-there's plenty to choose from. The prices have gone up and portions have shrunk a little (which is sadly standard among most restaurants). But if you're in the mood for a big salad (a big salad!!), a sandwich, or some wings this is the place. Fries are hit or miss lately as are some of the specials. Stick to the classics. Thankfully, the servers are solid and eager to please. I'm glad to see they've retained the awesome staff. The outside seating area isn't quite as charming as it used to be (the faux trees and hanging plants are something else), but it's still a nice place to bring the family on a warm summer day. read more

At 3 pm, we ordered over $100 in hot appetizers for takeout to be delivered. At 3:20 pm Chips called to clarify part of the order (which we appreciated.) My wife called at 5 pm to see where the order was and she was told the Uber driver canceled yet no one let us know. I went to pick up the food and asked if they remade the order since it was so long ago. I was told they didn't and that it was only an hour and a half ago - meaning the food was sitting under the bar for an hour and a half. As expected, the food was ice cold. It was so disappointing that we were not contacted when the Uber driver canceled, Also, the fact that they were okay giving us food that sat behind the bar for an hour and a half and were okay with serving cold food was very surprising. I just left Chips Pub III in Clinton Ct. I have been there many times. I live directly across the street. I have Celiac Disease which is an allergy to the gluten protein. They used to carry Redbridge, a gluten-free beer. That was nice, I could literally walk across the street, have a salad, wings, or nacho's, with a beer. They stopped carrying the beer. That was disappointing but the food was still good, and they had GF offerings, so I continued to go every once in a while. Their buffalo wings were always great! Today, 08/16/2025 I decided to walk over and have some. The bartender assured me that they were in fact GF. When I received my order, I immediately noticed that they tasted sweet. I questioned the bartender, and she said that they were buffalo and must be my tastebuds. After a few more bites I explained to her that I was concerned due to my allergy that the kitchen may have mistakenly given be the wrong sauce. She agreed to double check. When she returned, she explained that it was the house buffalo sauce made from butter, ketchup, and buffalo sauce. So mystery solved, what I was tasting was ketchup. I looked at my plate and sure enough it looked just like someone tossed my wings in ketchup! I asked for the check, paid my bill and didn't eat another bite. Now I ask all of you wing lovers out there, have you ever heard of buffalo wings made with Ketchup? To The owners: The wings you used to serve were great. I would always recommend them to friends and family alike. Not anymore, unless this was a simple case of someone in the kitchen that had no idea what they were doing. We had been shopping at the nearby outlet mall and asked one of the store staff where they would have lunch. She enthusiastically recommended this spot as where the locals go. So off we went! It was surprisingly busy for a rainy, off meal time, weekday. There did not seem to be enough staff and we had to wait by the hostess stand for a bit to be seated. The bartender took notice of us and assured us someone would be there soon. A waitress passed with food and said she'd be back in a moment so we never felt ignored as we waited. We parked in a good sized lot behind the building and entered at the door closest to parking. This took us into the bar area where many tables were filled and several folks were seated at the bar. The hostess stand is near the 2nd door, toward the middle of the restaurant. Outdoor dining is available, but on this rainy cold day it was closed. We were seated up a couple of step in an area filled with booths that only had a couple other tables occupied. Our poor waitress seemed to be really 'run ragged'. She never complained and was super helpful and patient. We placed a drinks order which came out pretty quickly and we were ready to order when she returned. I started with their French martini which they make the same way I do at home (there seem to be many varieties of this cocktail) and it comes with an extra serving in a small cocktail shaker. Nice. They have a number of craft beers on tap, beers in cans and a full bar including house 'drink specials'. My SO ordered pastrami on a pretzel bun and I went for the burrito with steak (you have options on the protein). The bun is tasty, the pastrami mostly lean with some of the fat included. This is a taste preference. Some like that, some do not. For those who do not, it wasn't excessive. The burrito is Huge and comes with salsa and sour cream on the side. I easily got two meals out of this burrito and when I asked for a take away container, our waitress brought lids for those sides. Besides the steak, which was tender and tasty, there is Mexican rice w/spices and corn, and other goodness in there (see photo). My burrito came with a side salad which I very much appreciated. A mix of greens with a good number of cucumber slices, shredded carrot, cherry tomato with dressing on the side. Everything was fresh. I eat my salad after my entrée as a rule, and the burrito was so filling (even just half of it) I had a hard time eating the salad! There is one ladies room which is handicapped accessible from the outside. From the dining area we were in, it's two steps down. There is a baby changing table in there and was nice and clean. Decided tonight to head to Chips since we heard the owners from Chow took it over. Absolutely amazing We both ordered Seafood platter, my husband ordered his with scallops. Watch out Lenny and Joes, we had a huge platter of shrimp, calamari, haddock with fries..Not greasy at all..so fresh, so so good! Leftovers for another meal. BTW..I ordered the garlic herb dressing on my salad, which was amazing and asked if it could be purchased separately because I need that as a dip..The salad was large with cherry tomatoes and no iceberg Lettuce, just beautiful dark green mixed salad. Croutons tasted like homemade..So..if you haven't been there since Chow took over, you're missing amazing food! After a trip to Hammonasset Beach, we took a short drive to a place that had promising food to eat before our long ride home. Inside was a typical pub with lots of eclectic signage. Outside of it is a very nice patio area with high tops with a garden theme. Since we were shooting to eat at a place that was Garrett towards our pick us eater, grilled cheese and fries it was. Good service for certain, and the food was definitely better than average for a pub. Honestly, it was a bit forgettable in retrospect, writing this review, but what I eat there again if push came to shove, and we were hungry off of the beach?Absolutely. The menu is definitely diverse enough where you didn't feel like you had the choice of either burger or wrap or nothing. I always dread those places where they give you a big menu, but it is full of the same two things with different configurations. I also very much appreciated the opportunity to sit outside on a nice day. I didn't need to sit inside and overhear conversations about dumb stuff people did during the day. " Oh, we took the motorcycle with blah blah blah side bags, but we really wanted the other blah blah blah side bags but next time we'll try the other blah blah blah blah side bags." in a voice loud enough for the Adonis of side bags himself to hear. Alright whats going on at Chips Pub III?? This place used to be great, a nice place to go for a quick bite to eat, get a drink, not break the bank doing it. It's a fun atmosphere - but the food ?!?!? Ordered steamers a few months ago tasted like low tide with a nice piquant tinge of sewage. Gave them another try. Ordered wings a few times, nothing satisfies like a nice rubbery buffalo wing with a little running blood running along the raw center - yum!! Gave them another try. Last night we ordered the stuffed sole special - nice and cold stuffing and raw filet of sole, I should've went to the sushi place down the road?!? Welp no more tries. Please get your act together fish, shellfish and poultry can make you ill if it's poor quality and not cooked correctly. If your chef doesn't understand this please see to it that they enter a new line of work. We won't be eating here again anytime soon, it's a shame - might be safe for a drink? But I wouldn't waste your time eating here until they get their act together. When they do, in the rare event I try them again - I'll update this review. read more

Although I've had some unpleasant experiences here in the past, I am willing to let that go and make sure I'm giving this establishment a fair shot. For someone who goes to Chips Pub with friends and/or family and that special someone, they never disappoint! Something that always stands out - and in a good way is that they employ individuals with different abilities. They sure are inclusive, accepting, and supportive of those with special needs. Honestly, that is why I continue to come here. The service is incredible, you will find yourself having a waiter or waitress who cares and will make sure you have a fabulous time and enjoy your food. Chips Pub has an atmosphere like no other - even when it comes to sports! The bar is always jammin' with sports fanatics who love MLB, NFL, NCAA sports, NHL, MLS, and so on. The many business signs, wall decor, and license plates from around the world make it even more fun to be at this restaurant! It shows that people have immense interest in such things. The new owners ruined this local gem Of a restaurant. Prices are now outrageous, and the food quality has fallen off. This used to be my go-to local restaurant with great prices, consistent food and great staff. Now it's an "in a pinch" option if nothing else is open. If I wanted Madison attitude, a fancy courtyard and prices, I'd go to Madison, or old Saybrook. Very disappointed how this restaurant has become since new owners took over. read more

Heading to the outlets on a Monday night and looking for a bite to eat for dinner. Nothing is open on a Monday! We tried 2 or 3 other places before pulling into Chip's Pub. Lots of young people working and we were seated pretty quickly and brought a bowl of popcorn. Its a nice touch that very few places do anymore. Our server was friendly enough but not seemed like we were too out of her way, as we were the only people sitting by the front windows. I never got a water refill and a second beer seemed to take a long time to arrive. But anyway, we got the loaded spuds to start. They were the best potato skins we've ever had! They were loaded with bacon and very crispy. My husband got a steak and cheese while I got the turkey panini. Both were very good. Both sandwiches can with chips, which are basically Ruffles, not housemade chips. Fries cost extra, as do any other side. That seemed strange since there was nothing special about the chips. Chips Pub is an easy place to have a lunch or dinner where there is something for everyone on the large menu. However the decor hasn't changed in thirty years or more and everywhere you look is kinda grimy, it makes me always question what the kitchen looks like and whether I'm going to have an upset tummy after eating there. Having said that I didn't but it's not a top choice of mine only due to the atmosphere unfortunately. The loaded tater tots were delicious. And everyone's food came out timely, as well as a nice strong lemon drop martini which I enjoyed, and our server was pleasant. read more

Wow! What's going on at my go-to restaurant??? Usually very clean, food cooked to perfection and friendly. NOT SO yesterday!!! Burger was WAY undercooked (I ordered medium), the Buffalo Chicken Dip was cold and let's talk about the Fish n Chips...what fish? The dish came out with 3 huge pieces on the plate however we were hard pressed to actually find the fish inside the over-battered product. You can get more fish from 3 frozen fish sticks at home! Really the only good thing was the Cosmopolitans. Thank goodness for good bartenders!!! So that's why I've lowered my star rating from 5 to 2. Don't know if I'll go back and see if they were just having a real bad day. We'll see. P. S. In these days of Covid, you'd think they would clean their disgusting menus. read more

Waited forever to even get water. Ordered a sandwich that I asked to be on lightly toasted bread. It arrived not toasted. Not a big deal so requested it be fixed. Sandwich came back black and charred. Server was horrible, spent more time looking at her phone and when we asked for silverware she rushed by us and threw it on the table. The place can get very loud if you are sitting in the bar area but that is to be expected. Don't know if the noise carries to the dining area since it's a glass wall separating them. We are retired happy hour folks so we enjoy trying different places. We enjoyed the atmosphere as well as what we ordered. We arrived around 6:15 on a Wednesday and the place was packed. We were told it would be a 5-10 minutes and it was about that. The boy that sat us was very nice. Our waitress seemed irritated by our existence. We were sat next to 3 teenagers in a corner when there were many other empty tables available. For an appetizer we got the Buffalo chicken dip which took about 20 minutes to come out of the kitchen. The food overall was good, and the waitress warmed up a little over time. I have been going to Chips Pub III since I was little and have never once had a bad experience! Their food is always delicious, their service is great, and with COVID, they have been especially clean and accommodating to guidelines! Every time I go, I get their Nachos! They have some of the best nachos I've ever had, and not getting them feels wrong! At this most recent visit, I got one of their paninis which was just as delicious. I have tried many items on their menu and not a single one disappoints!! Their staff is also incredibly friendly and fast! Some of the best restaurant service I have ever received has, without a doubt, been at this restaurant! (When I was younger, they would have someone make balloons for us, making it my go-to birthday dinner location!) Most importantly, with the pandemic and cleanliness being at the forefront of everyone's minds, Chips Pub did a wonderful job making their space clean and providing additional outdoor seating. While they have always had some outdoor space, I noticed they have added a good amount of new tables, all nicely distanced, for a safe and enjoyable outdoor dining experience! Have not been here for a couple of months due to two previous visits where service was not good. Decided to give it another shot. Same problem. The first time was at the bar - the bartender was very inattentive while spending a lot of time talking to either locals or regulars. Never asked if we wanted another drink, could never get her attention to ask for water, had to ask her for check after she passed by us continuously and then had to wait for what seemed like forever for her to take our payment - one was with credit card the other was cash and she never even asked if I wanted change. Went again about a month later after telling myself I would not go back but I thought maybe the previous time above was just an "off" night. I have been coming here regularly for about two years and was always happy with service and food. This time I sat at a table in the bar area. My friend and I waited at least 10 or 15 minutes before the waitress came over. She had been talking to a table of about 8 people for at least 5 minutes and walked by us several times without acknowledging that we were there. When she finally made it over she asked what we wanted to drink. I told her we were going to order our food also at the same time. We had waited so long for her to come to our table, we figured we'd order everything at once. She stated that she could only take our drink orders at this time and not our food order. I politely asked her why. She just said she could only take drink orders at this time. I told her I didn't understand why - that no waitress/bartender has ever said that. She took her pad out, slamming it on the table and said "fine, I'll take your order." My friend told her to forget it and we both left. So now after telling myself I would never go back after the last two visits, I decided to go again. Enough time had passed so I decided to give it another chance. NO MORE. Sat at the bar and ordered a drink. The bartender never asked if I wanted to see a menu or if I was going to eat. Another bartender came on I assume this was shift change. After about 10 minutes I asked to see a menu. It was happy hour so I asked for that menu. It took 20 minutes for two sliders to come out of the kitchen. It was not even busy. After eating I asked for the check. I was charged for premium liquor when I never asked for it and the bartender never asked what brand of liquor I wanted. I told the bartender that I never asked for that (it was an additional $2). She said she wasn't the one who took the drink order but said she would change it which she did. This has happened several times before at Chips - I order a drink and when the bill comes I'm charged for premium liquor when I never asked for it. I've also been charged extra for a "tall" drink when I never asked for that. Sorry Chips, but three strikes you're out. read more
