I've shopped at Critchley's several times since moving to Oradell and have always loved supporting what I believed was a local, homemade chocolate shop. That's why I recently spent nearly $70 on chocolate roses to give as gifts. When I got home, I realized they were actually made by Madelaine Chocolate Company -- a brand sold on Amazon -- not made in-house. Even more disappointing, a Critchley's sticker had been placed over the original branding, which made it appear they were their own product. After tasting one, it definitely didn't resemble the quality of their homemade chocolate. It tasted like a mass-produced bar. Had I known they weren't made by Critchley's, I would not have purchased them -- especially in that quantity. Transparency matters, especially when customers are intentionally choosing to support local. Gave two stars because the chocolates that they DO make are good. Really disappointing experience. Critchley's Candies is off the beaten path and is easily driven past. I'm not sure if it was just my experience with this candy store, but I walked in and the lights were off and the shop was filled with discounted Christmas candies. Against my better judgement I ended up buying 3 gifts from this location (2 for family members and 1 for myself). The chocolates that I bought myself we're chalky on the inside, you can tell that they've been sitting there for awhile and collecting dust. read more

I've been devouring Critchley's thin mints since we used to sell them as a Little League fundraiser 50 years ago! To this day, I still think their chocolate is among the best I've had anywhere around the world. Yes, around the world. The chocolate is smooth and just the right level of sweetness; totally addictive. And, the mint in the Mint Oritani's (thin mints) is also perfectly balanced. I've had other similar looking thin mints, and the mint is always overpowering. Any time I'm back in NJ, I make it a point to stop by and stock up, and if I'm gone too long I have it shipped to me in MN. The current owners, Steve and Leslie, couldn't be nicer too. What a find! Recently visited Critchley's for the first time and were Not disappointed. Large selection of chocolates, including superb chocolate covered pretzels, holiday treats, gift boxes, and a wide variety of both milk and dark. Located in a small, former church up hill from the train station and just below Kinderkamack Road at a traffic light. Easy access parking lot. Leslie and Steve are wonderful hosts and we appreciate having such a gem of a shop in River Edge. read more

Cute little candy shop that makes tons of delicious sweet treats! Came here on a Saturday afternoon during Easter season and there was lots to choose from. A generous variety of chocolate eggs, Easter bunnies (both solid and hollow) and pre-made baskets. They also sell chocolate by the pound. There is a whole section of sugar free chocolate too. The owner was such a sweetheart and made different recommendations and even gave us some history of the place. Over course it's more expensive than the bodega store candy, but it's an experience and it supports a local tradition. Don't miss the dark chocolate coconut eggs! Super good! read more

I had heard so many good things about this candy store that I decided to stop in on a Saturday afternoon. I was not disappointed! Leslie and Steve, the owners, were so friendly and sweet. Leslie let me sample some chocolate because it was my first time there. Their homemade chocolate is of high quality and tastes very good. You won't be able to buy lower quality chocolate after coming here. I love that they have everything in milk and dark selections. I like anything with nuts or fillings, and they have a great variety. They also have plenty of sugar free items. And if you need gifts, the packaged chocolates are adorable and perfect for the holidays. I'm sure they have great chocolate I am a 12 year customer and am Disappointed no taffy however good Quality chocolate tastes great but you walk in and it's Blane there and smells like Old chocolate and very dusty I mean I'm sorry I use to take my nephews and Niceness there when they would allow them to mold chocolate not anymore so needs improvement read more
