Fantastic customer support. A bit different from past experiences where they did an assessment on your bike and recommended service or replacement on about 10 items that you felt were just fine. Then you had to text back 'only do this and that'. I did not like that green eggs and ham. Anyway went in asking that my headset be greased expecting the same as above. Mech put it on stand, greased it up reassembled and said anything else- said no what do I owe you? NO CHARGE. So I tipped him. Your results may vary but If you go and get similar treatment give em a big tip. Awesome! read more

Brought my Specialized Epic Evo in for a front fork and rear shock service. Was told it would be two weeks before they could even touch my bike to begin the work and that they would have to send the rear shock to a third party vendor (not Specialized) to have it serviced. I picked up my bike after 19 days at the shop, rear shock had still not been serviced. They said it had been returned from the vendor after not being received there (and after two weeks of sitting at Criterium before they sent it). Terrible service and I would not recommend this shop. Go to Pro Cycling instead. read more

I was searching for a beginner's mountain bike and had gone to two big box sporting good stores without any luck or help. I had looked up local bike shops the day before on Yelp and remembered Criterium had great reviews so I said to myself, "I have no idea what I'm doing. I need help" so I went to Criterium. I'm so happy that I did! I walked into the store, and within one minute, Tom came over to ask if I needed help. I told him what kind of rides I intended on doing and my budget, and he showed me all of the available options for my height/size. He was very thorough and explained the breaks, gears, and features on the bikes. He adjusted the bike before I took it for a test ride, and again before purchase (I also added a kickstand and a water bottle holder). I loved how the service wasn't pushy at all, and he was honest about quality and ride. It was nice having help the entire way through the process. Highly recommend Criterium. Will be back for my husband's bike service as well as future tune ups. Additional note: I took my new bike for a six mile ride when I got home, and it met all of my expectations. I've been going to criterium since I moved out here, ~ 4 years now. They've been my go-to bike shop in the springs after having some very bad experiences with a couple other shops in the area. They've always delivered nothing but solid work on my bike. They're super nice guys, they have very fair prices and are extremely knowledgeable in every aspect of biking. Absolutely the worst experience I've ever had at a bike shop. Where do I even begin? The staff treated me like I was invisible until I asked a question--then they acted like I was ruining their day. I brought in my bike for a simple tune-up, and it came back in worse condition than when I dropped it off. Brakes were loose, gears were grinding, and they somehow managed to scratch the frame. When I brought it back to have them fix what they messed up, they tried to charge me again. Are you kidding me? Their customer service is as broken as the bikes they send out the door. If you like being ignored, overcharged, and leaving with a bike that rides like a shopping cart with one square wheel, then hey--this is your place. Otherwise, steer clear. I have attempted to purchase bike accessories from Criterium and I believe I actually managed to purchase a handlebar extension. But every time I have visited this bike shop I walk away feeling very inadequate. If you don't know exactly what you need, the staff manages to somehow belittle you. Today I had a bolt fall off my wife's kickstand. We stopped in to their shop for assistance. The guy with the handle bar mustache came out to see what we needed. In less than 5 seconds he said we not only don't work on that type bike we don't even let that type bike in the store. At that he walked back into the store and refused to help us. So glad I discovered Criterium bike shop this summer. I came in about 3 months ago and they were completely out of average priced bikes. All they had left were larger sized bikes starting at $3,000. They told me there was a waiting list that I could put my name on but the wait was several weeks out to get my hands on any bike. Then today I called ahead and asked if they had anything in stock and they did. I swung by the shop and went right for the bikes they had available and they only had 4 left. The price for the bikes was more than the price range I had in mind but considering how low stock has been because of Covid, I decided to just buy them. I bought their last size M and size L for my husband and it was the perfect fit for us. The guy who helped us was amazing and extra helpful, knowledgeable and friendly and helped is get all the extra gear we needed. The total price for our bikes with extra gear such as pedals, helmets, phone holders, rear view mirrors and tire removal multi-tool was just under $4,000. And it was well worth it, especially when most bikes left are going "as low as" $6,000 to $12,000 in other bike shops around town. Not only did I walk out with 2 amazing bikes at a good price but the customer service was out of this world amazing! It's a 2 thumbs way up for Criterium bike shop! In the last couple years the helpful employees have been replaced by a bunch of bros that cluster in the back of the register area and act like it's a real imposition to get dragged away from their hangout to take our money. My wife went in to purchase her first drop bar bike and was pressured into a frame that was far too large for her and she could never get comfortable on. While shopping for shoes we endured a bizarre monologue about waterproof socks and winter training while he asked zero questions about what we were looking for. When we finally realized that paying Criterium for bike fits and buying more components wouldn't make my wife's bike fit, we found another local shop where our existence is acknowledged when we walk in, they took time to ask what we were looking for, and genuinely wanted to help out. Over the years I've been fairly impressed with Criterium. The employees are nice and genuine. The bike selection is pretty good, and you can get a steal when they decide to sell their rental/demo bikes. One day I dropped in directly before an event because I was having some shifting issues. They took care of me right then and there. And to top it off they didn't charge me for the adjustment. But... I had new chainrings and a bash guard installed by Criterium. I love the new setup and will never go back to a triple. However, the tech did not put the proper spacers in place between the tall gear and bash guard, and even used different bolts (2 silver and 2 black). This caused the bash guard to get cosmetically damaged when shifting because the chain rubbed the bash guard. I figured seeing they couldn't get it right the first time I wouldn't take it back so went to Bicycle Village to get it installed correctly. Another $10-15 out of my pocket. read more

As the new owner of a custom high end carbon frame bike (from another source, not Criterium), I didnt expect any problems, but that was wishful thinking. In the first month of riding, I had problems with my electronic shifting system, seat post, poor tire setup, etc. Each time that a small problem developed (on may usual ride past Criterium), I would stop in and IMMEDIATELY receive service, most times with a quick fix in 5 minutes or less. In addition, I recently consulted with their staff on basic maintenance protocols and the best tools to carry with me......super customer service and knowledge ...Highly recommend their facility for all bike services, including rentals (when available) where you can leave the shop and go up the Sante Fe trail for miles and miles...a beautiful ride :) read more

Criterium saved our weekend! My buddy's bike rack failed and dumped my bike on I70. It's high end carbon mtb, so you can imagine the kind of living nightmare that was to experience. I called around and Criterium seemed to be the only shop in COS that had dedicated mechanics on staff on a Saturday. I think there were about 5 of them there, which was a relief as we were scared no one was going to be able to get the bike in working order quickly enough ending our weekend before it began. These guys, ended looking over it, accounting for all damage as requested and replaced all necessary parts in about an hour. We were relieved and had a great ride not soon after in Canon City. Visiting from Florida where I am an avid mountain biker. I know, there are no mountains in Florida. So I decide I am going to rent a bike and find out what mountain biking in the mountains really is. So I do a search on Yelp of course and find several good choices. Criterium happens to be closest and comes with the added reassurance of my little brothers recommendation. A quick stop to talk shop and see the bikes 30 min. later I have two bikes reserved. A 29er Specialized FSR for me and a 29er Specialized hard tail for my wife. Also got excellent info. on local trails. Something more challenging for me and easier stuff for the wife. The staff was very informative and went out of the way to work things out for me. Even let me pick the bikes up the evening before my reservation so I could get an early start. When I came in to pick them up both bikes were given a tune up before I took them. Both bikes performed perfectly and made for a great day of MTB riding. Also worth mentioning was the ease of renting. If you have a credit card you can have the bikes. Pretty much that easy. I drove down from Denver today to purchase a bike here since they were the only ones to have it in stock anywhere nearby. And wow, my whole experience was great. I waited a bit for them to finish building my bike, took it for a (very long) test ride, and it didn't take much more to sell me after that. The folks helping me bent over backwards in order to make sure that all of my questions were answered and that I knew most details of the bike. Reasonably priced, large selection, and a great (free) maintenance plan for the bike I purchased -- I most definitely will be making any future bike related purchases here. Don't waste your time or money here. I spent 45 minutes in the store a week ago talking to a sales rep and trying on shoes. They didn't have the shoe I wanted in the store, so the rep offered to order them for me. He went in the back to make sure they could order them, and came back and told me that they could get them in from Giro by early this week. I filled out a form with all of the information about the shoes and my contact info. He told me they would call when the shoes came in. Honestly, I knew that I could order the same shoes for $50 less online with free 2-day shipping, but I really wanted to support the local bike shop where I had tried them on, so I figured I would bite the $50 and do the right thing. Jump forward to today. It's a week later and I'd heard nothing, so I called the shop. Someone different picked up. He seemed confused, so he went to check some things and called back a few minutes later, telling me that they had no record of the order at all. Apparently the shoe is out of stock from Giro until July. Firstly, Criterium should have called me the day after I ordered and let me know this. Secondly, the same shoes are available at far better prices from a number of third-party sellers online. The rep on the phone seemed pretty unapologetic, and when I politely stated that for a shop in a town with like 15 bike shops they might want to step up their game, he hung up on me. I really just wanted to support a local shop, but I could have spent less money than the shop was charging--and had the shoes that the shop can't get me at all--days ago. Guess I'll stick to ordering online and shopping at Bicycle Experience, where all of my shopping experiences have been fantastic. read more

This place is awesome. It was recommended by a few of our friends and as a bonus, this is the only shop in the springs open on Sunday. We've been working with AJ and he is very knowledgeable. The highest compliment I can give him is that he always meet us where we're at in terms of our knowledge and ability. We've rented bikes here twice, they always come clean and in excellent working shape. We're so pleased with our experience here that we're looking into investing in bikes of our own. This is my favorite bike shop in the Springs. I recently purchased a gravel bike there and the sales person was exceptionally knowledgeable about the different bikes and was very patient in answering all of my questions. No pressure at all for the sale. My parents gifted us bikes which they purchased here 10 years ago!! They told us to head back to them to have the bikes serviced and we had such a great experience!! Someone took the time to look the bikes over, give an estimate on what work needed to be done and too the bikes for a few days. When we got them back the estimate was pretty spot on and the tech even helped he get the bikes loaded in my car, since I had to come back by myself. Ohhh snap! Criterium has to be one of the best bike shops in Colorado Springs. They are no-pressure, easy going and really informative. They actually took time to explain things to people who don't wear spandex leotards to ride, or rear view helmet mirrors. Luckily, I found my bike here randomly, after watching Specialized website, they got it assembled for me, and I made the drive down from Denver. The staff was awesome, Robert was funny and very helpful, since I haven't ever had a bike like this one (I was upgrading from a 20yr old bike). Outstanding service. I brought my Ghost FS mountain bike in with a bent rear derailleur hanger Monday morning. Within a couple of minutes one of the service techs was able to put it the stand and bend the hanger back to its normal position. Flew in from Delaware and had to completely disassemble bike to ship out. came in 20 minutes before close to get new tire sealant and for them to seat the bead. All the sales associates where busy but the ones close to me acknowledged my presence instead of making me feel ignored when one of them was free'd up they came over greeted and asked if I needed help. Got my wheel set recharged in less then 10 minutes while waiting another sales associate approached me and started small talk while I waited. The sales team is very informed and knows there stuff and how to approach and take care of customers. I stored my pride and called down, they looked up the part - (not listed in catalogue as a service part), and said they had it, and would hold it. Recently had the brakes on my Flash 2 serviced - Jon, the mechanic that worked on my bike, did an outstanding job troubleshooting and fixing my issues (turned out I had some obvious issues as well as some more hard-to-find ones). Anyway, very pleased with the work that was done. Shop hours are also really great - they are open later than most, and on Sundays as well.
