While this REI is a bit small, the store itself is wonderful. The selection is bigger than you'd assume. Everyone I encountered was friendly. I've been a member for awhile. This location is good. It might not stock everything but the sales people are nice.

This location continues to disappoint. Don't waste your time, go to Scheels or another local outdoor shop. I took bindings in to get them mounted to my new skis and beat the fall/winter rush. I actually thought I was being smart and helping them to do the work during an otherwise slow time. The rude manager quips there is no ski work until September, no sorry, nothing. I can understand the business decision for not employing a ski technician for the summer but then have the professionalism and courtesy to put notice on the store website (other REI branches in Denver seem to have it figured out). This is a Co-op after all. read more

I went into the REI in Colorado Springs around 5:00PM looking to do a ski boot fitting and David offered to start the process right away. He had a great personality, willingness to help, and very knowledgeable. Long story short --We did all the boot fitting process (measurements, standing in place, baking the boots, talking about fit and feel) and narrowed it down to the Atomic Hawx which was a significant improvement from my current boots and much needed on my end for performance and fit. David did mention the need for having bindings that were Grip Walk compatible which I didn't know if my binding had that but I had them in my car so I brought them in later on. Now after the boots were molded, fitted, and amazing we started the binding conversation. My current bindings were not compatible with Grip Walk boots and the problem solving started. Megan and Chris they worked their magic and troubleshooted the Grip-Walkless binding situation I was in and problem solved with another pair of Atomic boots that still had the Alpine Soles as they were out of the spare parts in the stock room. I greatly appreciated the above and beyond service, friendliness, and overall care for me as a customer and the extra steps everyone took to go above and beyond. As someone who has worked in retail, I can appreciate and understand the stress and impact the job has on you and I would like to give kudos to David, Chris, and Megan. You made my experience unforgettable, I felt extremely valued during my time with all of you and I can't wait to use my new boots this weekend. Thank you so much! I love REI and this location is cool because there are two buildings...one is more general which the other is more rentals. I didn't go into the rental building so I can't say for sure what else was there! I found a nice pair of swim trunks for my partner, new hiking backpack, new Patagonia sweater and some other odds and ends. I used to love REI back in California, New York and a couple of other states I used to live in. Unfortunately REI in Colorado Springs needs some major improvements on many levels. Pretty much every time I've come to this location they've been out of the sizes I needed and the variety of inventory isn't what it used to be. I'm not sure if it's a shipping problem due to Covid or something totally unrelated but it's a problem for sure. I haven't seen any new merchandise in the last 4 months I've been here and each time I come back to find my size in yoga pants they haven't been restocked. I was told recently that I should just buy them online which defeats the whole purpose of going into the store to try before I buy-- ugh. I hope this isn't becoming a trend with brick and mortar stores. I've been to lots of beautiful big REI stores throughout the US and this REI location falls short of REI standards in my opinion. Looking forward to seeing some improvements on merchandise, variety and policies when it comes to restocking merchandise for customers who want to buy in person. Fantastic experience here! Christian helped me with finding the perfect trail walking/running shoe that was actual on clearance. I was even able to use a 15% coupon in addition to the clearance price. The store was very well organized, very neat and clean, and plenty of staff to help answer any questions. Long time customer ready to move on... Rudest associate I ever encountered today. I was ready to purchase over $7500 in product for an upcoming family camping/mtn biking trip. My nearly 6 year old son wanted to walk on the simulated rock in the shoe section. (He does this at every REI, Cabela's, etc. - has for years). I was right with him "supervising" as the sign requested. Within 30sec of him stepping on the rock a short haired female associate came over and said, "We really need you guys to get off the rock." Mind you, NO ONE else was wanting to utilize it. I told my son he needed to get off and he said he wanted to jump off. Same associate said, "No don't jump off! Don't jump off!" I looked at her and said, "Thanks, but he's fine." She was as rude and nasty in her delivery as they get. I don't know if she was having a bad day, hates kids, or just wanted to try and throw some weight around. Irregardless of her personal issues I decided to take my $7500+ elsewhere... even if I pay a little more, I'd rather support a business that has nice employees rather than a rude associate. Pretty good rei for the most part. Rei has become so ridiculously expensive I only find myself window shopping now days. There was a 30 min wait for the shoe try on which was more along the lines of 50 mins. We wound up with some kids trail shoes which were exceptionally priced (shocker!). Upon check out our checker was a very sweet Dallas born gal who was so nice and lovely, she made the experience worth while. We need more people like her in customer service. read more

This store is overly priced but no surprise there so my review isn't necessarily about pricing but more about the organization of how they do things during these crazy times. I know that these are difficult times but we were looking for shoes and had to wait in a line, no biggy but once in a girl took us and then was like well I'm going to lunch so this other lady will help you and again no biggy but the "other" lady never came so here we are just like is someone coming? Finally someone did and we told them the lunch story she got us a show we were looking at and didn't work out so choose another but again who is helping us?!? I've been a member since 1975, and for good reason. The staff is well trained and extremely helpful. They are not just order takers, like I find in most other sporting goods stores. Every employee is knowledgeable and helpful. If one doesn't know the answer to my question, he/she will find another employee who does. They stand behind their products because they only sell good products. I've never had to return a product because it was cheap/crappy/bad. read more

REI is a bit more expensive than other places, but I happily pay for the selection and the expertise. This location only gets 4 stars because it is smaller than the others. The Springs' REI only gets 4 stars because it is much smaller and definitely not as rad as the flagship store just a short drive away in Denver. But just because this store is tiny in comparison doesn't mean that it's any less dangerous to my wallet. I tend to spend wayyy more money than I intended when I step foot into REI; and that isn't because of what can be steep prices. There are so many cool things that I absolutely "need". The staff here is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I'd love to take advantage of REI's free classes but I tend to be working when the classes are taking place. I am giving the Colorado Springs store 2 Stars because of an awful experience I had here today. Disclaimer: I love REI and am a frequent shopper. About 5 months ago I was buying my first mountain bike. I was advised to get a hardtail. Turns out when riding, what I needed was a full suspension. Today I was trying to return it because I was still well within my year timeframe stated in the companies return policy. I told the bike shop about how the hard tail didn't fit my needs and was told by the older gentleman helping me that the company would not support an upgrade. I was not trying to get another bike I just wanted my money back. So I asked to talk to a manager. The bike shops name was Lydia and she did not come off as caring or compassionate from the start. She told me that even though the return policy said 100% there were certain stipulations. I said that that was not listed anywhere and she said it is the employees job to tell us and that I would be better off selling it on craigslist. Again stating the reason of refusal to return my bike as me trying to get an "upgrade". All I wanted was my money back so I could get a bike that fit my needs. I left an REI for the first time frustrated and unsatisfied, with a bike that was not right for me. Luckily though, the REAL REI came through and Lisa from the cooperate section helped me through my return! So thankful for people like Lisa! I will continue shopping at REI because it is a great company but I will not be returning to the Colorado Springs store. read more

Membership has NO benefit After being sold a membership because of the coupons coming for "Members ONLY", I find the small print that Excludes bikes as well as many other items!! Their camping/ climbing inventory was fairly spotty before Covid and it is worse now for the camping basics (the usually have a good clothes selection at the expense of camping gear if clothes are what you are after). I also find they carry too many Chinese manufactured items instead of alternative products made in friendlier countries with less human rights abuses. This is hard to stomach from such a socially conscious organization. Well at last they are carrying Swedish trangia stoves kits now. :) read more

I like this store because they mostly target the hiking and snowboarding/ skiing populations in comparison to other stores where it seems like everything is for fishing lol... anyway... While I like the store the Colorado spring location doesn't have as much merchandise as the one in boulder( I know this because I had to do online ordering and do a store pick up in boulder to get my things faster). Once I was there, I saw most sizes ( Xs to XXL ) and a lot more options.It was a significant difference.Im all about saving when possible (but without sacrificing quality though )and after a 120 dollars purchase you can enroll in their membership program and save a percentage in future purchases. They have events and classes you can take through them like (101 for snowshoeing )or "yard sales" where other members sale their gently used gear so you can find good deals that way, this month they are giving a 20 dollar store credit for a 100 dollar purchase.Customer service is good. read more

After receiving amazing service from one of the employees in purchasing a very expensive multi-tool, I found myself 6-7 deep at the cashiers with only 1 cashier working ..... But also home to, hand on heart swear before the Lord, the most beautiful woman I have seen in my travels around the globe, in the form of the lightly blonde athletic figure working the door around 2:00 p.m. on 7th September come she would make Aphrodite envious, and was the nicest and warmest personality I have ever met in my years of life. Went in to get my 4 year old some hiking shoes, but not sure what size she wears since she's never worn any of the hiking brands. Stood in the shoe department for over ten minutes and not a single employee acknowledged us. Waited my turn for everyone that was being helped to finish up. One employee finishes and I watch him turn to another customer that just walked in and he acknowledges him right away and begins helping him. I'll stick to online shopping and take a chance and getting the wrong size since customer service seems to be lacking here. read more

Unfortunately I must downgrade REI in my rating. REI has completely lost sight of what once made them a great company. As I stated in an earlier review they do not carry anything but the most profitable sizes. Ignoring taller people (in my case) to improve their bottom line. This company also used to have a core principle of environmental awareness. One of the ways they did this was making it possible to repair your gear. When I snapped a trekking pole section, I took it in and just got that section replaced at the repair shop. Less waste and saved me money. Now they tell me I just have to buy a full new set. They used to repair lots of things or at least carried the parts to repair them myself. They have succumb to the pressure of investors now and just have a throw it away and replace it attitude. It's sad to see this change over the past few years. read more

I stopped by the "Garage Sale" for the first time this weekend. Boy, have I been missing out. What a great way to get some gear. Some of the stuff is used heavily. Most is either brand new or slightly used. The best thing is that everything has a tag on it to explain why it was returned. Many say "too small" or "didn't fit right." Some are damaged, but I was amazed at how many were out there at a reduced price without any damage or noticeable use. I believe it's a "Members Only" event (so wear your Member's Only jacket). If you're not a member, join. It's worth it just for the admission. read more

REI in general is overpriced as far as outdoor retailers go. You can definitely find a lot of the same products at other outdoor stores or on Amazon for much cheaper. However, some of their products are the same price you'd find them elsewhere so it is worth it to shop here for certain items. I also like to go check out items they have in stock before purchasing them online or elsewhere for cheaper, since the store is conveniently located near my house. I've never had an issue with customer service or the employees here. In fact, I had a great experience with Miranda last Friday - she rung me up and sold me a membership and she was super friendly and helpful throughout the entire process. read more

I was asked 4 times if I needed help. Each time I said, no. Then when waiting in line for the dressing room, I was then approached about needing help finding the dressing rooms. I can get one or two times but after that it's pretty much ruining my shopping experience, so I took my 23 dollar dividend and my dollars out of the store and went somewhere else... I've worked retail before, I know what the constant asking if help is needed means. I refuse to give my hard earned money to businesses who assume I'm going to take from them. read more

My favorite outdoor store in Colorado Springs. It has a ton of equipment and clothing. Make sure to join their members CO-OP to gain extra benefits. There is a lot of expensive stuff there so I try to buy on sale or the REI brand. It is just like any of the outdoor equipment/clothing brands but significantly cheaper. The sales personnel are all up to date on information that will benefit you for your adventures. There is a small boulder to test out new shoes. A bike work shop to fit you or your repair needs. After posting this review, fellow reviewer Kim K. let me know that REI doesn't accept pets not because they don't want to, but because the health department cracked down on them for allowing pets in the same vicinity as wrapped food. As a result, I will probably be willing to shop there (after all, I did love the REI in Chicago, and found their salespeople to be great), albeit without my pups. read more
