This week's task was handling a potential infestation of rodents. Oh joy! Nothing like having your home be a home for unwanted critters, and, well, eww. Roberto showed up on time, even messaging when he was on his way, listened to my concerns, and took a look around our basement. I was relieved to find out that it did not appear as if we had a big problem, or at least as big of a problem like I had feared, and that he would look outside as well. Once outside, Roberto inspected the house and found the likely point of ingress for mice. It made total sense because the gap in the siding coincided with where the soffit for the ductwork is in the basement. He gave me quotes on the services that were available, ranging from quarterly visits to a one-time sealing of the house, and then gave me some ideas on what I could do to handle some things myself. The service charge was $99, and if you sign up for one of their quarterly services or another one of their offerings, then that service charge is rolled into part of the overall fee. I was super-pleased with that part of the arrangement and I look forward to utilizing their services. Very responsive, easy to set an appointment, and a relatively thorough inspection, all in the span of less than an hour. Great experience!

I felt very comfortable not only with his knowledge but with his ethics. After several other bids, we went with Green Factor. This was an entire house job with dry spray in cellulose in the walls and ceiling and foam in the basement and dormer. We have not even put up the sheetrock yet and already notice an immediate improvement on interior temperature (no working HVAC yet) and sound attenuation. He looked the situation over closely and told me what I needed and gave me the name of a company that does that type of work. My neighbor asked for his opinion on her situation and he said her guttering was too small for the volume of water. He sent a crew out four days later and completed the job for her. One of the crew members noticed something had been done wrong by another company when he got up on the roof. She is going to have Eldon and Sons correct that before it becomes a bigger issue. I also had two replacement windows go bad. I called Jerry at Eldon and Sons and he ordered the replacements which were installed the day they did my neighbor's guttering job. No charge. No hassle. They were glad to take care of the problem. If all businesses related to construction and otherwise did business the way Eldon and Sons does, there would be a lot more happy homeowners.
