Having spent my entire career as a law enforcement officer specializing as an elder abuse detective, I was EXTREMELY selective when choosing where my mom would live as her dementia began to worsen. Choosing an assisted living or a memory care community for a loved one requires careful consideration, so when looking for an exceptional facility, I took many things into consideration, and Crofton Manor checked EVERY box! The key aspects that stand out for me at Crofton Manor are: 1. Longevity and attentiveness of staff: A community with staff who have been there for a long time often indicates strong management and a stable, experienced care team. This is true at Crofton Manor. Everyone from the administrative team (Administrator (Amalia), Marketing/LVN (Claudia), on-site Social worker (Cheryl) and all the caregivers, facilities employees, and kitchen staff (and everyone in between)... are all amazing, professional, and have worked here for many years. The consistency of care provided by familiar faces is incredibly comforting and speaks volumes about the community's management and work environment. There is very low turnover in staff, and they are genuinely friendly and approachable. Their attentiveness to the residents' needs and well-being is beyond reproach! The staff makes a genuine effort to engage with residents, learning their preferences and ensuring their needs are met promptly and with dignity. This personalized approach is a major differentiating factor. 2. Safety protocols: This facility has robust safety measures which is paramount in a care setting. This includes secure environments, clear emergency procedures and safety protocols. The community maintains a secure environment without feeling restrictive, and I have complete peace of mind knowing my mother is safe. 3. Cleanliness: Crofton has a consistently clean and well-maintained facility. The health and comfort of the residents is clearly a priority to management and staff. I have never once noticed any foul odor in the facility, and my mother has lived here for almost two years. My siblings and I visit unannounced (at different times/days) at least 3 days per week, and our mom is always groomed, well-dressed and happy. 4. Phenomenal nursing staff: The nurses at Crofton Manor are extraordinary and highly skilled. They are compassionate and responsive, and they manage my mother's healthcare needs efficiently; always communicating with me proactively about any changes or concerns; often being contacted by a nurse for even the smallest of concerns. They do not take the care of their residents lightly, and have never once taken a "shortcut" when it comes to healthcare concerns. They are extremely competent, which is vital for providing appropriate medical care and responding to health needs. 5. Social worker support: Having a dedicated social worker on staff is incredibly beneficial (Cheryl is a rockstar and truly cares!). She has assisted us with navigating resources, providing emotional support to our family, and helped us with the adjustments of community living. Her expertise has made the transition smoother and less stressful. 6. Friendly atmosphere: We are always met with welcoming and friendly staff members. I have never walked into the facility to see folks simply sitting around in wheelchairs unattended. There are always activities for the residents to be involved in, and the place is decorated for EVERY holiday, bringing a special warmth to Crofton Manor. The environment created by both staff and residents contributes significantly to a positive environment. In summary, the qualities I have pointed out above (along with many others) assisted us in choosing Crofton Manor as a safe, supportive, and caring environment for our mom. We have found an exceptional assisted living/memory care community for her at Crofton Manor, which was a decision I made with great scrutiny. Crofton Manor took amazing care of my Mom prior to her passing in 2022. The staff is caring and friendly and the residents are all very happy. Even though my Mom is now gone I reached out to Claudia for help when my brother had a stroke. The immediate response and care shown by Claudia in assisting my brother and I was phenomenal. Although he ended up in a different facility, (due to his condition and need for additional security), I so appreciate all that was done on our behalf. I'm a retired Firefighter and I have made countless runs to many different assisted living facilities and Crofton Manor is one of the best run facilities that I've ever seen. I moved my Mom there 2 years ago and I can't tell you how comfortable I feel with the entire staff. Claudia and Evelyn are top notch nurses on staff and they are extremely professional and caring. This place is top notch. If you are looking for a place for a loved one where the staff has tenure and longevity' this is the place for you. The people stay because of the excellent leadership this facility has. Amalia is the general manager and she has created a fantastic family/team environment. The staff are amazing and take excellent care of our family member. She has been there 10 years and the staff know her well. They treat her like family and look after her. The communication with the facility is excellent. The nursing staff is on top of med management and care. Recently our family member has been falling a lot in her room. Anna took it upon herself to assess the room and create a new layout that allows extra room. She reorganized and removed any obstacles and created the safest environment that she could! When we saw it, we were thrilled. It is wonderful for someone to take that initiative to protect our family members and address the need quickly and efficiently. When my mom lived here before she passed, she called this place home. It is not a "modern" facility in appearance, more a "manor" as the name implies. My mom liked that. It has a warm environment. My Brother-In-Law lived here for 5 1/2 years. He had a private room. I cannot express enough how kind and caring the staff was during this time. The facility was always clean as was his room. His laundry was done on a regular basis. If he was having a bad day, the staff would do everything possible to lift his spirits. All Holidays were decorated and festive. He received the very best care during his 5 1/2 years at Crofton. We appreciated everything they did for him. We highly recommend Crofton Manor. read more

There are no words to explain my appreciation for so many of the staff members here at Crofton Manor. I live a thousand miles away and the care of my mother (like I am sure all that read this) is extremely important to me. I am in constant communication with the nurses, front desk staff and administration that are always approachable and willing to give me the sense of security I need living so far away. They schedule her doctor appointments, get her there and bring her back. They get her up, cleaned and dressed. Her room is clean and her clothes washed, if I ever have a concern they listen and if a correction needs to be made, they do it willingly with kindness and grace. Crofton Manor Inn - Me and my beloved momma - Retirement Homes Near Me - Long Beach, California

In 2019, I moved my mother into assisted living at Crofton Manor Inn. She had underlying health conditions, which included dementia. However, she was able to live the first 3 years in a single room at Crofton, which she enjoyed very much (see my previous review). Near the beginning of 2022, at age 94, my mother had heart failure, underwent heart surgery and suffered post-op stroke(s). Once she was discharged from skilled nursing, I moved her into Crofton's Memory Care Unit. Once she became incapacitated I put her under the care of Mission Hospice (Crofton's sister company). At the age of 95, my mother comfortably passed away in her bed in Crofton's Memory Care unit in July 2023. The memory care unit caregivers, skilled nursing staff, and hospice team did an amazing job taking such great care of of my mother during the end of her life! It truly takes a special person with a higher calling and enormous patience to properly care for people as they transition through this phase of life. I couldn't have asked for a better team for my mom and I can't thank them enough! A special thanks goes out to my mother's main caregiver Maria! I also deeply appreciate Claudia's kindness and dedication to my mom and everyone there! I'm so glad I found Crofton Manor Inn for my mom. When it came time to look for assisted living for my mom, we visited Crofton Manor. We were very impressed with the staff and the rooms were very nice. When my mom moved in, she became very active in the neighborhood. Walking to the local market, walking to the beach, to watch the dogs at the dog park, and even treat herself to an ice cream cone at Rite Aid near by. She lover her room with a balcony, she could see the lights on signal hill. I recommend Crofton Manor for your loved ones that just cannot live on their own, and need some extra care. read more

I want to start by saying thank you to Claudia for all the assistance and the support she gave me to find a new home for my mother at crafton Manor Inn. I was one of many people, I'm sure they're still many out there, that were and maybe still frustrated and not able to find the proper help to assist our love ones to finding a comfortable home.Once again thanks to Claudia she showed me the process of how to make the process a non stressful one. Being a firefighter I have found myself responding to emergency calls to quite of bit of the assistant living homes as well as nursing homes. With that experience of seeing a variety of homess i have seen the quality of living at these homes. With that I can say that crafton Manor Inn is one of the cleanest I have ever seen. When I was looking for a new home for my mother I also looked at the personnel that work there. Crafton Mannor was very welcoming and found out that many of the personnel working there have been there for over 10 years. One of the other great benefits is that the majority of the employees biligual. The moment I realized that this was the new home for my mother I decided to do an unexpected visit . And just like my scheduled visit went, I saw the consistency in the cleanliness as well as the professionalism with and all the employees. My mother has now been living at crafted manner for almost 3 years now and there is not a day I regret making this my mother's new home. Lastly I like the communication that my Mother's caregiver and I have, every time I visit my mother I speak to the the caregiver and tells me any personal needs that my she may need. Knowing that my mother's dementia is getting worse I count on her caregiver to really be there for her. As my dad advanced in the level of his care needs, I visited many assisted living facilities in the south-west LA searching for his next residence. I originally settled on Crofton Manor because I found the staff very responsive, caring and I appreciated the spacious rooms. While Crofton Manor is an older building it is kept very clean, the shared rooms are larger and have a clever floor to ceiling closet divider which allows for more privacy than other places I visited. My dad and I both appreciate the access to patios, light and fresh air. He began living at Crofton February of 2020. Then Covid hit hard in March. After living through the last year of tremendous anxiety, and now looking back, I am very impressed with/grateful to Crofton Manor's handling of this epidemic. I have grown to trust Amalia (Director) and Claudia (Chief RN) to be fully informed, and protecting of all their residence by following CDC protocol. Its been a terribly stressful year during which Crofton has exactingly cared for its people. At last my dad had his first vaccination this month! Importantly, I need to stress how much I appreciate that anytime I call, my inquiries have been answered by a live person who cares and is competent (this has not been the case in previous residencies my father has lived)! The staff is the best, from Stephanie lead nurse to Arristeo head of maintenance, Dr. Phillip my dad's GP, the caregivers who work so hard, kitchen staff, receptionists and office management, all are great! Thank you Crofton Manor for getting my dad and me through this nightmare year! My mother lived with our family for 18 years until she needed more help than we could provide. We found Crofton Manor and couldn't be more delighted. The team at Crofton Manor create a very home like environment. They are attentive to her needs and communicate with us often. Everyone is friendly and personable. We had to make an emergency decision 5 years ago to move my parents into assisted living as they were unable to care for themselves. Not once in these last 5 years did we regret that move. The Crofton staff know their clients well and treat them like they were their own family. My mother was hard to handle for a while, as a result of Alzheimers, and the support staff remained loving and caring despite all of the problems she was giving them. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and they all knew me and who my parents were. Also, the staff is kept well informed of the needs of the clients. The facility is well cared for, and maintenance is quick to respond to any problem that may arise. During the week they also offer activities throughout the day, and make sure they can accommodate every one's needs. They have two patios that are accessible to clients and are comfortable. They are setup with umbrella tables and chairs. We often had lunch in the back patio. It was a nice way to spend time with my parents and let them get some fresh air. When my time comes, I'll be glad to know Crofton Manor Inn is there for me. read more

Ok. This place may look a little tired. But the phenomenal staff starting from the top management on down couldn't be any better. The managers are extremely knowledgable and helpful in guiding you through the medical insurance and government regulation minefield. They are attentive and responsive to your needs, concerns, and requests of any kind.The staff of medical personnel are on top of every patient. And the caregivers do a great job of going beyond daily resident needs and show a true interest and warmth. This is the kind of place where the residents don't pay a fortune and don't get lost in the system. Where you would want your mother to be. read more

My mom has been living at Crofton Manor for over a year now and we are extremely happy that she's there. The facility is clean, the staff is friendly and helpful, and my mom is very well cared for. They provide three full meals a day plus an evening snack, they bring all of her medications right to her, she's regularly bathed, and they offer games and activities for the residents. They have a house doctor so she doesn't have to leave when she's feeling under the weather, and they have special events for residents and their family members for holidays such as Christmas and Easter. We couldn't ask for a better place for her. We now have piece of mind that she's being taken care of and most importantly she loves it there too! read more

The facility is clean and well maintained for an older facility. It's in a good location near shopping, parks, and beach. The admin staff is patient and understanding for the requests of each individual resident. The caregivers work hard and do their best. Their smiles and popping into my moms room to say hi makes my mom feel part of the Crofton family. The nursing staff are professional and efficient to keep track of medications my mom takes. They call me right away if mom fell or requires additional needs. The food is good, and the dining room is bright and cheerful. My mom says lunch is her favorite meal here. For the Holidays the place is decorated nicely. Each resident door had a nice decoration getting everyone into a festive spirit. They had a Christmas party my mom enjoyed. Their maintenance staff is responsive to moms requests inside her room and they keep the facility and its grounds clean and updated. Last summer they did a makeover of their two patios that look wonderful and are pleasant to use. Its been almost a year since my mom moved in and we are so thankful to Crofton and their staff for making this a nice, friendly, warm place for mom to live and for us visit and enjoy the time we spend with mom. read more

My 94 year old grandma was starting to get dementia and my mom just couldn't take care of her any longer. We we're so worried about her and where she would go until we found Crofton Manor. I moved my mom in 2 years ago. The staff is so supportive and kind. I get called updates if there is something I need to deal with. They helped me with all the financial processes with the government. The morning activities are perfect for older people with mobility issues. The staff is always cleaning and the place is welcoming. As our parents get older sometimes we cannot care for them ourselves and need to place them in the care of others. Well let me start by saying Crofton has been more than just a place that cares for your loved ones its has become home. Claudia one of Croftons Directors has helped me and my mother more than I couldve ever imagined and I truely appreciate all that she has done to make my mothers transition to Crofton as smooth as can be. The staff in general are very friendly always smiling and the place itself always smells and looks clean. When you enter the building someone is ALWAYS in the front to help with ur needs and I like the fact that they remember you and the residents living there. My mother needed a hospital bed with rails and I'm so pleased to know that she received it. I know people are skeptical about these places but let me assure you that there is no need to be of this one. I visit mom regularly shes got her TV a mini fridge and microwave in her room so I know shes okay between the times I go and visit with her. I especially want to thank Amalia for helping get my mother dressed in the mornings as I know that can be a tough task sometimes. I recommend Crofton to anyone who has been looking for a place of this nature for a senior as I know personally how stressful it can be looking and really not knowing if you can trust it. read more

Crofton Manor serves the elderly, as well as clients with mental health diagnosis. Both from these populations are under cared for due a lot to lack of state funding to take care of our own. I have worked with this facility, and suggest that you "DO" step inside, for it is one of the cleaner facilities in the area. And what does the size of the staff have to do with anything? My mom was a resident here, unfortunately she recently had to be moved into a convalescent home for more attentive nursing care and vigilance because of her dementia, falling etc. I don't understand the negative reviews I have read. Yes, the place may be a little aged, but it is clean! I have never seen roaches or bedbugs, and because of my mom's circumstances she was in a few different rooms. Believe me, I have seen places I would not have my mother live, we have another relative living in one of those places in RPV. Anyways, the staff have always been kind and understanding with my mom, and even very observant of her visitors. They have always been nice to us as well. My mom said the food was good, and always complained about having to deal with the medical staff too often...lol, meaning they were doing their job checking her sugar levels and such. This place was a godsend being that my mom is low income, and we could only apply so much to her monthly care also. I would definitely recommend Crofton Manor! Thank you Claudia and staff! read more

I've only been visiting this place for a couple of months now (ever since our elderly neighbor became a resident there), but I like what I've seen! Their visiting hours are nice (you can stay until 8pm) and the staff is super friendly. The facilities are clean and well-maintained, they have daily activities for their residents, and they even have a beauty parlor where the people that live there can go to get their hair or nails done. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the neighborhood - parking can be a bit sparse depending on the time of day you go, but there are always spots available if you go in the evening. read more

My dad needed an Assisted Living Facility fairly quickly as he was being discharged from the Nursing Home. I visited a number of Assisted Living Facilities in the Long Beach area. I found that Crofton Manor had the nicest space available for him, and he also was able to have an entire room that was for 2 people for some time. My dad was very reluctant to stay there initially, but after over 2 years now, he is very comfortable there and really does not want to leave now. He gets basically prompt help whenever he has a concern. I am called also promptly whenever there is any concern. Claudia who is the Manager is super helpful with any issues. My dad also ended up finding a great gentleman there who has become a wonderful friend and roommate now. I am totally comfortable with his staying there and being cared for and protected. They also have been handling this difficult pandemic time as well as I think an Assisted Living could. read more

My mother lived at Crofton Manor for about 5 years, up until her death from Alzheimer's Disease. Crofton Manor is a facility participating in the Assisted Living Waiver Program in California, which is a wonderful thing. It allows people who would otherwise live in a skilled nursing facility to remain in an assisted living type of environment which gives the residents dignity, peace and quiet and privacy. They periodically assess residents under this program as to whether they need additional services as their health declines with age. Crofton Manor kept all their promises, they cared for my mother from middle stage AD all the way to stage 7f, as far as Alzheimer's can go, when my mother died. She was a very challenging patient, particularly during the pandemic, and they cared for her like family. My only complaint about the facility is you do need to be a squeaky wheel when things need to be fixed but they do get to them. I will be forever grateful to Crofton Manor for all they did for my mom. Our community is lucky to have this facility available to our elderly and disabled, particularly those afflicted with Alzheimer's Disease. read more

I've known Crofton and their staff for 10 years now. My mom had Young Onset Parkinson's Disease. As a mental health care professional myself, I took great concern into choosing a place for my own mom when she needed it. I am also trained to know what to look for in terms of good/unacceptable care. I looked at 17 different assisted living homes in a 30 mile radius. I did my homework and can genuinely say Crofton is an excellent place. I never once showed up announced and I was there multiple times a week on average. Her hair was always braided nicely, her nails were painted and she was almost always involved in a resident activity when I arrived. Her room (and I speak for my experience of all of her friends who were residents over the years there also) were always kept clean! In fact, the staff often asked me to come help them organize her things so they could deep clean. My mom was by far one of the most difficult residents they've ever had. Physically, she was challenged greatly as well as mentally with mania. They were always very patient, even in the hardest situations with her and ALWAYS treated her with dignity. She was coherent and verbal enough to be able to tell me she got good care even when I wasn't there and was able to say the same about her friend's care. The staff knew everyone by name, and I've gotten to know their families over the years as well. When she died, there was a line out her door of staff with flowers and cards and tears while they stayed on their own time to say goodbye and give me a hug. They also went out of their way to bring residents and their own families to her funeral. You just can't get that kind of genuine care anywhere. I have recommended crofton to other family members (who also lived there) and to friends parents who also had good experiences. The facility is in an unideal area of town BUT crofton goes out of their way to have good security and safety measures like automatic lock doors after sundown to protect their residents. The front desk staff almost always walked me to my car if I had to leave after dark as well (without my asking). Believe me, I understand putting your family member in assisted living is difficult and it just looks sad no matter what. But I hope this gives you relief that the staff is incredible and will care for your relative "like I would want my own momma to be treated" -quote from a caregiver. And they will also be of great help and understanding for you as you maneuver a difficult time! After 10 years there, I hope this review helps someone else have the great experience my mom was able to have. My family is forever thankful!
