5/5 Stars Review for Nurse Alejandra at Brittney House Assisted Living I want to take a moment to recognize Nurse Alejandra at Brittney House Assisted Living for the outstanding care she's given my grandpa. She is truly one of the most helpful, compassionate, and dedicated nurses I've ever met. Alejandra always goes the extra mile whether it's making sure my grandpa is comfortable, taking time to chat with him, or checking in with me personally to give updates on how he's doing. I really appreciate how she keeps me informed about his health and well-being; it means so much to know he's in such good hands. Her kindness and patience shine through in everything she does. You can tell she genuinely cares about her residents and treats them like family. It's a huge relief to know that my grandpa is being cared for by someone so thoughtful and dependable. We are truly grateful for Alejandra and the wonderful team at Brittney House Assisted Living. She's made such a positive difference in my grandpa's life and in ours too. read more

I recently took an evening tour of this facility, and what I witnessed was heartbreaking and deeply concerning. I would strongly advise anyone considering this place for a loved one to look elsewhere. The Memory Care/Locked Unit: The "care" in the locked unit was non-existent. The staff--mostly teenagers--were huddled together on their phones, completely ignoring the residents. The smell of soiled clothing was overwhelming, suggesting residents are left for long periods without changes. Even more alarming, I saw residents with scaly skin, bruising, and marks on their arms that looked like they had been roughly handled or restrained against their will. One gentleman was in the hallway crying to go home, and no one even looked up from their screens to comfort him. Professional Misconduct: When I asked for a floor supervisor to address the lack of staff in the assisted living area, a woman eventually appeared from a storage closet with a male, adjusting her clothes in a very unprofessional manner. It turned out she was the supervisor for the unit. The lack of supervision and basic professional ethics is appalling. Management: The Executive Director comes across as very "fake." Based on my visit, it seems management is focused on appearances and salary rather than the actual safety and dignity of the seniors living there. They are permitting an environment where neglect is the standard. This is not a safe environment for the elderly. I am in the process of reporting my observations to the proper authorities (Social Services and the Ombudsman) because no one should have to live in these conditions. read more

My father is in the faculty currently. There is a scabies outbreak and families are not being notified. I went to see my father, was not told by anyone of the outbreak and business is being conducted as usual. I knocked on the door, to speak with the Executive Director, Joel. He ignored the knocks, kept sitting in his office and walked out when it was time for him to go home. I asked him did he answer the door. He acted like he couldn't hear me. Then said, "Sometimes, if I'm available!" I told him that I went in to see my father, was informed that I should have been told that I should wear a mask and gloves, he said "Yeah, and!" I told him, "You can walk away, I'm going higher!" He looked at me, looked at the receptionist, Marie and said "I gotta go!" Then left. The unit 5 area is not being, quarantined, residents do not have on masks, proper PPE is not in place, ventilation is not covered, and they are not doing anything the health department advised them to do. I waited for the health department to call me back, they advised Brittany House again, as of 5:00 pm. Over 2 hours later, nothing has changed. Some Alzheimer's patients regress when ill, this place is horrible! Joel, the Executive Director, is rude, incompetent, has no people skills, and he needs to be fired immediately! Updated: 24 hours later! The management has lied publicly and everyone needs to know. I personally spoke with the health department. I personally sat and waited for the Brittany House staff to put signs on the doors. I personally watched a staff member put signs on two of the entry doors at 5:30 PM. After Joel's incompetent, disrespectful, and uncaring self left at 5:00. After, ignoring my knocks on his door as I sat for 2 hours waiting for the health department to get back to me. I personally walked in 24 HOURS after the outbreak and no PROTECTION FOR RESIDENTS OR STAFF WAS IN PLACE! I filed a report with Brittany House (They're hiding this!), the Long Beach Health Department, the California Social Services Department, and a review here on Yelp (I joined to make this public.) I am my father's POA, I have not been contacted by Brittany House (phone nor email), this outbreak was 24 hours before my visit! It's been 72 hours! Visitors, workers, residents, and outside care providers are in and out daily. It's clear, this Joel guy has permission to do what he's doing. He's protected at the cost of over 100 venerable dementia patients, family that have very little choice. If I were on the top management of this company, he would not have reported to work today. He would be on an immediately administrative leave pending investigation with staff and residents. OR He would have been terminated IMMEDIATELY! Thank you for letting Brittany House! I cant thank the team at Brittany House enough. They've been so kind and supportive, not just to my grandmother but to our family. It's a tough transition, but they really made it easier. Every time I visit, I leave feeling good about where my Nana is and the care that she is receiving. read more

We had avoided the elephant in the room for as long as we could as no one feels like dealing with putting a loved one in care. Dealing with other homes first made things even worst as super aggressive sales people in these huge corporate houses just wanted to sign you up, imagine a slimy car salesperson except you have a lot more on the line then your transportation. I then luckily stumbled upon Brittany House and despite it being a little farther than i wanted my mom to be was immediately drawn to it as Erin which i spoke to on the phone was completely different. She took time to listen and really understand our situation and offered for me to come in with my mom and check it out ourselves . Despite my mom not wanting to go and complaining all the way down there , she actually said "i like that place, they are so friendly and i can make some friends there". That made me so relieved as i had this sense that i was doing her an injustice but in fact her being all alone in an apartment was the injustice. She has been there for 6 months now and loves it. Whenever my brother and i go visit she is so excited to introduce us to new friends she has made. Highly recommended-! read more

My Dad is in this facility and I have very mixed feelings about the facility. Some of the caregivers are really amazing and some of them are just horrible. I don't really think the management has a total grasp of the reality in this place. I've seen patients just sit in their own squaller and caregiver say I know I'm too tired I ain't taking care of that right now. I personally haven't seen it but I hear there's lots of cockroaches which is pretty freaking disgusting considering how much you have to pay to be here. The people here are somebody's loved ones and they should be treated as such. I personally want to move My dad but my mom's not ready for that yet. Proceed with eyes wide open. Oh and of course the food is terrible. I've seen them give people that have dementia and can't remember that they should meet chicken bones give them whole pieces of fried chicken. And that's just one of the things. read more

UNDERSTAFFED HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT OWNERS DONT CARE AT ALL. IM JUST BEING REAL. This place is an absolute horror house. Please do not bring your loved one here. I highly suggest call a place for mom put your loved one in a home where there is only 6 people allowed. My Aunt was her for over a year and it was getting worse day to day. The "director " has the gift of gab and will bs. You straight to your face. And NEVER follow through ever. The new owners are greedy and DO NOT PROVIDE LEGAL LEGAL CARE FOR THESE PEOPLE. THEY ARE BEYOND BEYOND UNDER STAFFED. MY AUNT AND OTHER PEOPLE THERE ARE NEGLECTED. DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE NURSING STATION. They never know what's going on I was constantly going to the nurses station to the director just to get information on the meds. My poor Aunt needed to take. My aunt was there a year they have five sections they started doing construction so they put section 1, 2, & 3 into one section and these poor caregivers actually care about the tenants, but they physically cannot take care of all these people I saw naked people being pushed in wheelchairs to take a shower just horrible situations. After my aunt was moved to section with all the other people they started just leaving her in the bed. She got a bed sore on her foot. The director downplayed it to a pressure ulcer, which is a bedsore couldn't get hospice out. Couldn't get a doctor out. Please do not bring your loved ones here they will die. I got my aunt out. She's in a beautiful home with three caregivers for six people believe me call a place for mom. Look around you will find the right place for her, but Brittny House is the wrong place and by the way I pay the same amount as I did at Brittny House! Please get your loved ones out. And please don't even consider this horrible place. You'll regret it. read more

Looking for long term cate is never easy but choosing Brittany House for my family members care needs has been an exceptional decision. From our first visit, the staff welcomed us warmly and demonstrated compassion and professionalism when discussing their commitment to a supportive environment. The facility itself offers a comfortable and secure atmosphere that will make anyone feel right at home. The variety of activities has enhanced my family members life. One of many things that has stood out to me with Brittany house is their commitment to caregiving. They take the time to get to know each resident which I find essential when they are personalizing care. It is this level of care that has given my family peace of mind knowing that our loved one is in caring hands. After some changes in ownership, I had the pleasure of touring the new and improved Brittany House. Executive Director, Ruth, is dedicated to hiring trained and compassionate staff to provide attentive care to all residents. On my tour with Beatrice, I was shown comfortable and safe accommodations for those living with dementia. She was knowledgeable about staffing, resident needs and providing insight into why Brittany House stands out. While the building is older, it is well taken care of, clean and quiet. Exactly the type of calm atmosphere one would hope for in an assisted living. Brittany House Memory Care truly is a hidden gem for in Long Beach. read more

This facility is a hell hole. It's severely understaffed. Some of the memory-impaired residents who can still wander around steal from and prey on those who are less physically capable. Dickensian. Some of the staff members are kind and really trying their best, but there are not sufficient staff to accommodate the number of residents that the management has greedily and illogically accepted. read more

This place has gotten worse by the week! The continued lack of care, the disorganization cannot locate supplies for residents, ordering thru incorrect medical doctors for meds -- more lack of systems in place, residents personal medical needs are not being provided here causing hospitalization for lack of monitoring and care! Reporting these people! Management declined meeting with our family in more than one occasion. Run don't walk! read more

My Husband has been at Brittany House for over 2 years. Last Fall 2023 there was an ownership change and so far it has not been a good situation. The New owners promised a lot of changes for the better, but so far there is no sign of that. it always seems they are understaffed. The care givers are wonderful and hard workers, but they have no extra time to inter act with the patients. My Husband complains about his food, which never happened before. They promised activities for all levels of care, there has been no sign of that. There have been several changes in the management staff and it is very difficult to make contact with anybody in charge. I have several questions and left messages but never got a response from anybody. There is a patio where I would like to take my Husband outside, but it is in full sun which makes it impossible to use. I hope that there will be some improvements and increase in care giver staffing soon. read more
