We went to Cronies for the Friday fish fry yesterday. Now I have not been here for any other meals, so I'm only reviewing the fish fry. We first marveled at the price, especially since it is AYCE. There is a choice of bluegill, lake perch, walleye and fish legs, and you can mix and match what you order. I started with lake perch and bluegill and my spouse had all three of the fish. And that is as far as we got. We had enough on our plates to not need any refills of anything. The fish was excellent, not overly breaded, great flavor, piping hot and I wish I had room for more!! The server came back to the table frequently to check on us. I have read other comments about the smoke smell, that is gone. There is a smoking section outside the side door so no problem inside. I've lived 5 miles from here for 20 years and this is my first time here and I am kicking myself for not coming sooner. I guess I thought of it as simply a bar kind of place. But when we went about 4:30, there were people at the bar, but most of the tables were groups of older patrons enjoying the fish fry. All I know is I want to come back next week!! read more

Great place. This a small town bar with a great atmosphere. Everyone very friendly and the food was very good. I had the Italian beef sandwich and it was spectacular (and huge). My husband had the cheeseburger and he said it was really good. Definitely recommend stopping in. read more

No trip home is complete without getting Italian beef sandwiches from Cronies. The beef is so tender and their au jus is the best in the Midwest. Which if you're in the Kouts/Hebron area you HAVE to go here for that and their homemade potato chips. The sandwiches have a bit of a kick from the Italian peppers too which makes them even more amazing. Highly highly recommend and the staff is awesome. read more

I cannot recommend Cronies enough. We had Sam and her team cater our wedding and we could not be more happy. Her attention to detail, delicious food, and amazing team have been a talking point amongst our guests for over a month since the wedding. Her team did an absolutely amazing job. They provided all real plates and cutlery. They were there the entire wedding day to set up, serve food, and even help clean up at the end of the reception. Her team is so talented and fun to be around. In addition, Sam is a great person to have in your corner during the wedding process. She helped point us in the right direction on numerous occasions and she really saved us several times. Cannot recommend them enough!!! read more

Cronies - Sam Cardwell. Think twice before using their catering service. I ordered their premium package for the bar for my son's wedding. What kind of wine do they offer with a package that is $33.99/person (don't forget to add 20% gratuity and 7% tax) Sutter Home... I can't even make this up. I requested a higher quality wine and she waited weeks to respond stating that her distributor doesn't sell it. She took it upon herself to make the decision of which two wines I wanted and only bought a case of each for an 85 person wedding. She told me it was illegal for her to buy direct from a store. I asked about a different wine and her distributor didn't sell that one either. It was a bit less expensive so she told me she went to 5 stores and finally found 4 bottles to buy. I thought that was illegal? I would have had the wine I originally asked for if she was just going to the store to buy it. Also, she transported premade sangria to the wedding when I was told it is illegal for them to transport anything premade. Interesting when they throw the "illegal" word around. I rented a third party (not from Sam) physical bar with two shelves to go behind it for an outdoor wedding for an upscale look. Then Sam brought in tubs for the ground for the beer to go inside. And CANNED beer! And if you look at the pics there isn't ice in them. Warm canned beer! Plastic cups for wine. Cheap plastic cups. No real orange juice, they brought Sunny D. Let me remind you that this is the top end package. No bartender watching if anyone underage grabbed the beer in the tubs. In addition, she was non-responsive after multiple messages that were viewed as read, even up to the day before the wedding. Most of the food tasted like it was either canned or frozen. The food was cold and the staff was not dressed professionally for a wedding. Please, if you're looking for a classy, upscale place don't call Sam at Cronies. You will be embarrassed but have paid as if you were getting a high-end, upscale vendor. read more

Alright, I consider myself a food lover. If you look at my other reviews, they are mostly all about restaurants. I have lived in this are my entire life. I cannot believe I have never eaten at Cronies. A co-worker told me they had a great steak sandwich, I had to try it. With the Rona going on right now, I didn't get a chance to really experience the atmosphere and get a waitress that has had "one of those days." The bartender greeted me with a smile, asked what I had ordered and we had some nice casual small talk. The bar itself has a really cool old time feel and look. Floors and bar look to be original from... I couldn't tell you when. The ceiling has those cool decorative metal tins. Very unique. I felt like I walked into Cheers! (But no body knew my name...) Again, I had a simple sandwich, the steak was cooked great, not to fatty. a little chunk here and there but... nothing unexpected. Tasted amazing. The sauce gave it a little kick that I didn't expect but not overwhelming. Fries were simple, but good. It was a good size portion and I only ate about half. I Kind of wish they would cut it in half! I just moved to Kouts and we got some great sandwiches on a takeout order on moving day. My wife and I went back to eat in but left almost immediately as the smell of cigarettes drove us both out. Great place with great food. I can even forgive the fact that the last 2 times we visited we waited 20 min to get a drink because the only bartender was in the back cooking for the lunch crowd. Our fault for coming in at noon both times. Because after that no one comes in and we get the whole place to ourselves for awhile. Love their wings and burgers. We stopped here on our way out from a camping weekend in Kouts. None of us are from the area, so we checked Yelp for suggestions and this place sounded good. We called to ask if they served breakfast and were happy to hear that it was Sunday brunch. All you can eat for $11.99, home cooked food - sounds like a plan! The bar is nice, wide open and inviting. The food was fantastic! We were lucky enough to be there for homemade pierogis and cheese filled crepes. I came from out of state to visit friends and was recommended Cronies. I came in, ordered some food, which was outstanding! The bartender, Nicole, and Manager, Kolten, were outstanding staff. Went there last night for Lake Perch, and it was very good. It's a bar..keep that in mind. Smoke, sticky tables, but usually in places like that the food is excellent, and it was! AYCE Lake Perch, soup or salad, cole slaw and potato salad for a good price. Give it a try. If you are in to architecture, the building itself is about 130 years old, still has wood floors and a very cool ceiling in it. It is a little worn down, but that's to be expected.
