Great way to end a dunes day. Places has a ton of options and a nice outdoor area. Cool please to stop and grab a bite or drink.

One of the best Reuben's I've had! If you like Reuben's you need to try this! Great cocktails and service as well too.

A hidden treasure. Casual atmosphere. I loved the outdoor seating area! Service was friendly & great! I ordered the reuben egg rolls with thousand island dipping sauce. They were unlike anything I've had before and are amazing! I also got the red white and berry sangria which was yummy. Loaded with watermelon and blueberries. My daughter got the totchos and had extras to take home, Loaded tots with pork and queso. She also ordered a watermelon mojito mocktail which arrived topped with a slice of watermelon.

Came here after going to the Indiana Dunes National Park, and the food was pretty good! Wasn't super busy so we got our food fast and service was good. There is a section for 21+ but also one that is for all ages, which is really nice. Our server Vanessa was also very nice and patient with us, thank you! Recommend stopping here for a bite to eat!

We ventured to Gastro 49 after a disappointing experience at another nearby establishment. We wanted to sit outdoors, and we wanted a place with alcoholic beverages. When we arrived, the gentleman behind the bar was so incredibly kind. He asked us to please be patient as he was working alone, and the patio was busy. Despite the warning, the service was prompt, the food was delicious, and the gentleman was so sweet. Among the group of us, we had a molten burger, steak tacos, a smoked chicken sandwich, and a regular burger. Everything was divine. I went out on a limb with the steak tacos, and I was not disappointed. They were flavorful and perfectly cooked. We're so glad we happened upon Gastro 49. Definitely visit if you're in the area!

I am part of the Valpo Restaurants group on Facebook and I saw someone recommended Gastro 49 for burgers in Chesterton. I put it on my list of places to visit and this is a gold mine if you love burgers. The building itself is a dive as it almost looks like an old 2 story farmhouse. There is a bar area in the front, outside dining, and a dining room. I ordered fried pickles as an appetizer and these pickles were breaded fabulous. It seemed to be a cornbread type of breading. They weren't sliced thick or thin but a good size pickle. The burger I went with was the Molten Lava. It had a spicy mayo, ghost pepper cheese, cajun seasoning, and the most impressive aspect was that the meat was stuffed with jalepenos and bacon. This was a one-of-a-kind burger! The meat was a fresh-made patty and it was cooked just the way I like it. They have a few other burgers to try so it is on the list for revisiting. Fries were more of a thick cut and I liked them. This will be your new favorite burger joint!

Molten lava burger with house chips (and lava mayo on the side to dip the chips into - as if the burger wasn't spicy enough!)

What used to be the coach light bar is now Gastro 49. The food and service is always good. Try the sweat potatoe fries.

Does this place brew their own beer?

No, they serve local breweries and have a good rotating tap list. Usually about 15-20 local brews on tap (IL, IN, MI) plus a variety of bottles. Good selection.

We started with the Poblano and corn cheese dip which was super tasty, especially the homemade pita chips. I got for my entree the bagel and lox which came with a salad as a side. The white balsamic dressing was good and the lox seemed fresh. Good brunch option very close to the outlet mall.

It is a decent, semi-local IPA, but for once, it is one that I prefer out of the can. The restaurant is clean, and large, and we were seated & served pretty quickly for a part of 5. The menu is semi limited...not a lot of anything, but probably something for everyone.Nothing we ordered was super complex . We ordered the fried feta and the arancini for an appetizer. Both were excellent, although of if I had to pick, I would opt for the feta. For entrees, my party ordered a variety of things! I ordered the panini with a side of fries. Portion on the fries quite small but they were seasoned well. The roast beef panini need something a little more to hit the flavor profile...maybe a dab of horseradish? It was good but not great For the $. Would probably opt for a different place next time.

She is just as friendly and lovely. The vibe is lively. The music is loud, and their bar area is nice, with TVs throughout. Hubby ordered the steak and potatoes, and I ordered the fish and chips. We both enjoyed our meals. Hubby said his steak was seasoned really well, and he took half of my fish, which he also said was really good, and I agree. This is a great neighborhood staple, and we will definitely be back to try one of their burgers.
