Eggs Benedict with crab cakes and loaded hash browns
    Jessica E.

I've traveled all over the untied states and I must have dined in over 100 diners, searching for that perfect breakfast. After years of travel and reviewing breakfast spots, I found my heart restaurant. A place I know I'll think about quite often through my lifetime until I'm able to come back once again. The crooked hen is a quiet little establishment right in the heart of the hills of Pennsylvania. I love them so much my first try, I came back a second day in a row. My firet try, I ordered the lox on the NY bagel. You get a GIANT portion of smoked salmon, kapers, cream cheese and fresh tomatoes. Absolutely decadent. The salmon was perfectly smoked and still fresh, which is hard to achieve considering the cost of this ingredient. The crooked hen nailed it. The lox and bagel were better than anything I've ever had in New York and honestly, New York could learn a lesson on portion from this place! My second try, I got the crab cake eggs Benedict with hash browns covered in cheese, peppers and onions. WOWZA! The immense burst of flavor out of that first bite of crab cake blew my mind. Incredibly fresh, not too fishy and light! The HOUSE MADE hollandaise sauce was thick yet creamy and perfectly balanced. Most places serve "gritty" hollandaise sauce because it's been over cooked, set in a heat tray for too long or over heated during the cooking process. The poached eggs were actually poached too! Which is quite impressive because most restaurants choose to fry eggs for eggs Benedict because poaching an egg is hard to perfect. The crooked hen nailed that too!!! Considering eggs Benedict is what I always obsess with over during my travels! I'll be DREAMING of those decedent crab cakes for the rest of my life! The hash browns were also perfectly crisped and the peppers they layed on top were perfectly cooked and perfectly sweet to off set the savory. Again, I'll be dreaming about this dish for the rest of my life!! In to the staff and establishment: PERFECT. The facility is incredibly clean and the staff is so clearly well taken care of by management as the waitress I got two days in a row was a soft spoken and polite young lady. The crooked hen is so incredibly lucky to have this young lady!!! She was quick to serve, she was quick to make sure I was taken care of during my entire dining experience. (both days). I plan to come back over the summer on a personal trip. That's how good this place is. No wonder they've been voted best lunch. (Even though I got breakfast items during lunch, there's a good reason for that too! - DELICIOUS!) Bravo, crooked hen. Bravo.

The entire menu is wayyyyy overpriced. $20 for a bagel lox!? I've paid cheaper at fancy bistros, and it would at least come with sides.

    Frites and eggs

This was my first visit to Crooked Hen for breakfast and lunch, and I was impressed! The menu had great options, and the staff was very friendly. They even asked for feedback on our food choices and took the time to explain how they prepare the breakfast burrito. The frites and eggs were absolutely delicious!

Great place to eat when driving 625 to Lancaster. Diners are great, but a great environment and variety really helps change things up.

Outstanding experience. (Hope this review makes up for minor squabbles about Gracie's, which I too…read morelove!) Located a bit out of the way in the Flying Hills golf course, but worth the drive. Sports bar- Eagles vibe w/ a decent draft list. The kegs weren't working (seems to happen at every bar we attend these days) but still enjoyed a Mike & Merrill Philly Hazy IPA. Wings a good size, crisp, you know, the way wings used to be before everyone started charging an arm & a leg & serving broken pigeon wings. Classic "Buffalo" sauce & blue cheese dressing were good. FINALLY tried famous Caramel Burger (which I missed several times at the Hamburger festival). It did not disappoint. Good size, flavorful patty, & what these people do best- the bacon jam & caramelized bacon. The sweetness of the onions sings thru. Order it! Husband ordered seasonal special Frikadellen/Bratwurst Smash Burger. Skipping right to it- the cottage fries. (Gracie's/Louie's if you had this all the time we'd have no beef! LOL) INCREDIBLE! Crisp, thin, tender, amazing. If you follow me you know I am over the frozen fries served at every eatery in this country. Finally, amazingly pleasant, genuinely happy, server- Reese. She was on my side throughout this whole foodie journey, even the beer & burger mishap (initially burger served w/o cheese sauce). She's a keeper! We'll be back & will spread the word! Till then, stay on your toes! Thank you Louie's for a great meal.

Fun restaurant and bar in the Reading, PA area!…read more My friends and I were traveling through Pennsylvania and we wanted dinner, a place to watch a football game, and good food/beer. We found Brewer's on Yelp and and were very happy with our visit. Brewer's had a local feel to do it and a lively atmosphere for a Thursday night. The food menu has a large selection of different types of food so almost anyone can find something to eat. Great selection of beer with a lot of regional offerings. Also seem to run a special for different types of alcohol for most nights of the week ($6 large draft IPA beer on Thursday night). I ordered the brisket meatloaf sandwich that came with BBQ sauce and gouda cheese on top. The sandwich was very tasty and I especially enjoyed the pretzel roll it was served on. I liked that I was able to substitute a side of perogies instead of chips. The moon ranch grilled chicken sandwich was a little underwhelming and the moon sauce was the only positive to that sandwich. The service was good and our server checked back in with us multiple times during our visit. There's also a beer outlet with a large selection of craft beer attached to the restaurant so you can take local craft beer home with you. They call themselves a small place with the BIG selection!

I'll be honest, I didn't know much about this place going in, but I'm really glad I went and I'll definitely be back. Walking in, the first thing you'll notice is a beautiful, large fish tank built right into the wall on your right. The restaurant is dim and upscale-feeling, but still very family-friendly and not loud or overstimulating, so you can actually have a conversation. They have both booths and tables, and the space is very open and spread out. As a parent, you can even strategically seat your family in view of the fish tank or the windows to give the kids something to look at. It's great for a casual family dinner, a date night, or even a birthday celebration. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible with no ramps, you can roll right in to your table. It's located in a plaza but set apart, so parking was never an issue. Plenty of spots, including handicap parking up front with just a short walk to the entrance. They have a solid variety on the menu including alligator bites, burgers, pasta, salads, and more. It is on the higher end price wise. Most entrees start around $14 and up, and even the kids meals begin at $8.90. The cocktail menu is extensive and the dessert menu is worth a look too. They also have a lunch menu where prices vary a bit more favorably. I ordered the Coastal Cheddar cheeseburger burger with no tomatoes and it was excellent. Very fresh, well seasoned, and served with shoestring fries that were equally on point. They also bring out a ciabatta loaf with butter to start, which was a really nice touch. Food came out quickly (always a plus). The staff is genuinely incredible. There's a tag team mentality where anyone on the floor can help you, refill your drink, or check on your table. My server was very attentive, and even when they got busy someone always stepped in. No reservations needed, at least when I went which was on a Sunday around 1pm. Highly recommend!

Excellent food! The soup flight was a great experience. My…read moredaughter enjoyed the crab corn chowder best. It was a bit too peppery for me to fully enjoy. My favorite was the Lobster Bisque. It was creamy and deliciously balanced. The clam chowder tasted like "old soup" as per my daughter's review. It was OK, but did taste like it was canned and therefore we didn't eat more than a few spoonfuls of it. (The crab and lobster soups were gone.) We both thoroughly enjoyed the gator bites. They were well prepared and very tender. My daughter enjoyed stated that she was surprised it reminded her more of chicken than what she had expected. The dipping sauce added a nice touch and was not too peppery or spicy. It was well balanced. The seafood gnocchi was filling and flavorful. My daughter enjoyed it and had enough leftover for another meal the next day. I thoroughly enjoyed my lobster roll and ate the whole thing. There was an abundance of fries, which I did not eat. They were good, but did have a bit more of a greasiness than I prefer. The drinks were typical Coke products, which wait staff were attentive to keeping filled. The ambiance is a great place for a casual quality meal with family, friends, work colleagues, or a date. The salt water tank in the "lobby" is always nice to look at. The place is always clean and well maintained. The booths are spacious and you can talk comfortably without being crowded by other patrons. I love this place because the food is always good and the atmosphere is calming with the dim lighting.

My husband and I assessed Austin's differently. He ordered prime rib which he said was nothing short of perfect. Cooked medium rare as requested, tender, juicy -- he savored every bite. I scanned the menu. Nothing jumped out at me. (I generally don't gravitate to steakhouse-type restaurants.) I ordered a half rack of baby back ribs. My point of comparison is Longhorn's which offers more of a bang-for-a-buck, and in my opinion better tasting ribs. Not to say that Austin's aren't good. They are. Based on the popularity of Austin's, it's clear management knows what they're doing. But I think a small salad and baked potato should be available with the price of the entree -- not worth the extra $7 I was going to be charged. The salad is listed as 'field greens,' -- which it's not -- but reading the menu you'll see they mean iceberg and romaine. The salad was good, enhanced by their garlic ranch dressing. We washed down our meals with well-priced drinks: merlot ($8.90) and Blue Moon ($6.90), then splurged on dessert. Austin's flourless double chocolate brownie a la mode is very rich. One order for two adults is plenty. Austin's is aptly described as a family restaurant. A lot of kids. A lot of noise. Service is friendly and on-the-ball. While not my kind of restaurant, if prime rib is your thing -- this could be the place!
