honestly one of the best places to go kayaking ! it's about $40 a person (10 extra for my pup!!) (or a cooler if u wanna bring ur own, which is a great idea because who wants to be dry on the river, right? hahaha anyways, go at ur own pace and enjoy the beautiful scenery!! it's such a nice place to go on a sunny day, and we went around 4:30 and were taken to the drop off point almost immediately by two real nice guys !! the food at the Iron Horse Saloon smelled AMAZING, But i was so tired after 3hrs on the river!! read more

Crooked River Adventures - kayaking with Bud - Boating Near Me - Burton, Ohio

Terrible experience today with one of their drivers. When we returned home, we looked up their website, where it says things like "family-owned", "respecting social distancing", and "friendly staff". Well, I'm here to tell you none of these things are true, at least for this one employee. I also find it interesting that when I called the Burton number and asked who the owner was, a woman told me "they were slammed, and this company is corporately owned, could I call back Monday." Which is it? Are you family-owned, with someone who actually cares about the business' reputation or a corporate-owned entity that will get me lost in a maze of bureaucracy? Hopefully others can try one of the other reputable businesses in the area instead of Crooked River after reading this. So here's what happened: My wife and I pulled up to unload our kayaks at Eldon Russell Park. It was pretty crowded, lots of people getting ready to put in, including a group from Crooked River, along with Mr. Friendly, respecter of social distancing (I wish I got his name, but he was probably in his 50s, short grayish hair, very tan, wiry build, maybe 5'9-ish). I'm minding my own business, and he begins to harass me, because I'm choosing to wear a mask. He goes out of his way to say "Hey, I hear there's a lot of coronavirus out here." I just nod at him and ignore it. I leave to take my truck back to the parking lot only to return to find Mr. Friendly and my wife having a heated exchange. My wife doesn't back down...apparently, he went out of his way to harass HER too! He's questioning why she's wearing a mask, asking if she's a democrat, spouting to whoever will listen that it's all "a bunch of misinformation." Apparently, when he's not driving a van, he's an epidemiologist as well, so he also began quoting stats. According to him, there's only a .0001-something chance of something. I didn't catch the whole "fact", but apparently, I have nothing to worry about. I'm so relieved. The irony of of this whole confrontation is that us wearing masks protects HIM. Why should he care if I'm wearing a mask? And why should he go out of his way to confront and harass us? He's on the clock--for YOU. The family-owned business that is respecting social distancing. Is that right? He wasn't wearing a mask. You're dropping off a van-load of about 10-12 people--were they all the same household? I doubt it. Further, we paddled down river, then back up. There was another Crooked river van dropping off more customers, another van load, your workers not distancing, not wearing masks. Don't put it on your website if it's not true. I'm sure your response will be "you didn't know," but this cavalier attitude of your employees starts somewhere. And I suspect it starts with ownership and/or management.  My wife said to me later, "I could have just taken off my mask to fit in. But what if I had a different color skin than him? Would he have singled me out in the same way?" I wonder....got his pic, but missed his face. read more

Crooked River Adventures - not sure why it's sideways...Mr Friendly is behind the 'yak - Boating Near Me - Burton, Ohio

I have NEVER been yelled at by anyone as much as the staff here!! Yesterday we launched off at the Iron Horse with our own kayaks. (It seems like anybody renting the boat and everything from them, they are really nice too. If you have your own boat they are very unpleasant) The parking attendant yelled was very rude to all off us. He even screamed at me when I parked in the spot he told me to cuz "THIS IS NOT A PARKING SPOT ITS A DRIVEWAY!!!" Then why did he tell me to park there?! You pay $10 per boat to walk you Kayak to the launch (from where they had us park is was about a 70yards). The launch Area was ok, just a small spot with some gravel. We were followed by a group of employees who did not offer to help or do anything but complain. I did ask why they charge $10, the one guy said it is because "we had to paid for most of the bridge so that's why" this is the bridge that's going over 422. Even when we were paying they were VERY rude!!! The River itself was nice. We will NOT be back!!! There are more then enough other places to go that won't treat you this way. -10 stars! read more

Horrible management, do not waste your time. Waited 2 hours for our group to be called to get on the bus and then they told us to get off because it was actually the wrong group. We wanted a refund and it took them FOREVER to figure it out and then my amount was refunded to the wrong person and they said they couldn't do anything about it. Was told before we came that we could bring a cooler of any size. got here and that was not the case. they wanted to charge us per cooler. staff was extremely rude and did not care about what their own employee said. wanted to charge for extra coolers but allowed people to smoke the devil's lettuce. no COVID restrictions at all. no social distancing practice. go to camp Hi if you want to canoe or kayak. read more

The river itself and canoeing was awesome!! However, the staff was very rude and not friendly. We had a group of 20+ people and they treated us like we were an inconvenience. When I went to pay I told her I've never done this before and she talked to me like I was stupid. All I wanted to know was the prices and how many could go in each size. She was nasty about it and I bit my tongue because I didn't want to make a scene. After we got back it was a hassle to get our IDs back and one girl, maybe a bartender? Came out and started yelling at my friend because she had a beer. We just came off the canoe and were finishing our drinks. She acted like we were just sitting there to keep drinking and avoid paying at the bar. I just got done with the rude lady about the IDs and then after the bartender came out I couldn't handle their rudeness anymore. You would think after all the business we brought them we would be treated better. And I'm not asking for special treatment. I'm just asking for them to treat us with respect and no attitude. For these reasons we will not be coming back. After I shared this experience with friends I found out there's better places to go canoeing so we will go there instead. read more

Let me start by saying when we finally got on the water, we had fun. Up until that point, it sucked! They guys taking the money and checking you in seemed clueless. The shuttles that take you to the launch area hold 14 people. How hard is it to count to 14? We waited for almost 2 hours to get on the river. I know it was a busy day but seriously 2 hours?! Because of that, we had to rush our trip since we had plans later in the evening. Would like to do it again but might buy a canoe or kayak so I do have to waste my time and money here. Plus the inside bar service was so slow and the bartender was constantly complaining how busy she was. read more

The workers at the desk were very rude and showed no effort to be respectful to us. Once we waited in a 15 minute line to order our paddle boards we sat on the porch for 45 minutes waiting for the bus because they overbooked the supply. We got on the RIVER with our OCEAN paddle boards that did not have a fin so they were very hard to maneuver. They did not have anyone helping launch or dock so someone in our party felt obligated to do it and got yelled at by the employees. read more

We waited in line for 45 minutes to go kayaking to only be told that if we didn't have a reservation they couldn't help us. Nowhere on their website does it say to call ahead or book reservations online nor do they have a waiver to fill out online. They're running a 1985 style business. never will i ever return to this establishment again. the employees were extremely rude, argumentative and unhelpful. at the front desk they were extremely inefficient and the line was excessively long. the extra charge for "large coolers" was 10$ and was enforced on our tiny dry bag. after our lackluster experience at the front desk, we were instructed to sit on the patio and wait for our group to be called for the bus ride. this wait took over 45 minutes and it was clear that the staff didn't care about us or our time. after finally getting to the launch point and into the water, it became clear to us that the paddle boards were not meant for this type of setting. they were large ocean paddle boards without a fin. the fin is what keeps the paddle boards going straight and so consequently the paddle boards were almost impossible to maneuver. the paddles were cheap plastic and heavy. after the trip was over, there were no employees helping people launch or return. a person from my party was kind enough to help people with their launch, a job they had employees to do. instead of being thanked, the employees asked more of him and told him to help bring in boats that didn't belong to our party. read more
