Came to Safety Harbor to visit a friend and she suggested meeting here. What a great place! The indoor area is very spacious, and the outdoor garden even better. Very chill atmosphere. We simply went indoors, bought our beer, and then enjoyed the lovely Florida evening weather. We brought along a bunch of snacks - nuts, chips, fruits, etc and had a great time in the garden. There are heat lamps for cooler nights. If you want to have a proper dinner, there are plenty of restaurants a short walk away in the downtown area. read more

A little off the beaten path but worth the trip out for trivia nights. They only have a couple of local ciders on tap, little variety for gluten-free folks. Spacious seating area indoors and outside. Came for the cats, stayed for the beer. I loved Crooked Hammock's vast, inviting outdoor beer garden, and their resident felines are among the friendliest I've ever met. Nestled among a residential neighborhood, Crooked Thumb is the type of place I'd be a regular if I lived closer. They have lots of TVs if televised sports are your thing, and they can cater to large groups. They're dog-friendly, but your dog better be cat-friendly, or they'll be in for a surprise by hosts Leia and Vader (love them). Stopped here on a bike ride around Safety Harbor on a Sunday. There were several families with small children coming in with pizza, activities, ready to have a good time. You could definitely tell this was a regular meeting place for the community. You are able to bring in your own food and there is plenty of tables and room outside and inside. There was a stage outside but the band did not come the day we were there. Cats roam free and sit right with you.... Cozy. Visiting dogs nap among the chaos. We had 3 of the Girl Scout cookie inspired beer. The Salted Caramel Brownie and Chocolate Peanut Butter Stout were yummy. Neither of us cared for the Chocolate Coconut Imperial Stout as it was very sweet after the first two. We will definitely try this fun place again! read more

We attended the Campfire S'mores, pre-Thanksgiving fun night. We arrived a bit early, but too late for a seat ANYWHERE. Luckily, the line was short, and we quickly got a Frosty Nibs, and a Chocolate Peanut Butter Oatmeal Stout. The Frosty Nibs is a Chocolate Peppermint Bark brew that is super refreshing, and makes you feel like you're hanging out on the snowy slopes, even in the FL heat! It's reminiscent of a frozen peppermint hot chocolate, and is perfect for winters in FL. The Chocolate PB Oatmeal Stout was thick without being thick, and tasted peanut buttery without the stuck tongue! Delicious brews that hit the spot! On this night, they had free S'mores in the backyard. The marshmallows were HUGE and the sticks super long - perfect for toasting/roasting without getting too close to the heat. They were delish, and the guys behind the table (and behind the bar) super friendly and helpful. Good band and good friends made it a great evening! My only regret was not having a chair, as it became totally packed fast. The only thing I could suggest to make it better was having more people behind the bar, as lines quickly became super long, and we would have had more beers if the wait wasn't so long. Yup. Crooked Thumb Brewery is such a fun spot to relax and enjoy some great local beer. Their craft brews were really enjoyable, with a good variety to choose from. They have some the more odd fall flavor profiles, which is always fun to try something new. Most of the stouts leaned toward the sweeter, dessert-like side, which was a nice treat. Crooked Thumb is the most well-known brewery in Safety Harbor. Position just a couple blocks south of Main Street, CT has a large fenced, lit back yard area with picnic tables and a large stage. There is also plenty of seating in the industrial looking inside area. The tap list is always quite extensive and filled with a variety of ales and lagers. Many of the beers are quite good though I've never had anything that was truly astounding. All in all, a solid brewery in a cool setting. read more

While in Safety Harbor...check it out. HOWEVER, depending upon the time of year you might want to stay inside. (more on that later) When going to a brewery you are there for the beer. Needless to say a "WIDE" variety of beer. My wife who loves IPA had "Shade Tree", a West Coast IPA. It was very good but not "great". From looking at Yelp prior to getting here someone posted about a "Girl Scout Flight" that were 4 stouts similar to their cookies. They said it was limited time but they were VERY GOOD. (picture attached) Outside...not so much. A VERY LARGE beer garden. A beautiful day and wanted to experience it but we had to move inside. First of all, the tables and chairs were full of pollen, leaves and little mini worms hanging from the trees. Brewery staff didn't seem to care. They did nothing to wipe tables and chairs down. It was very disappointing as it was a beautiful day and we had to go inside. Inside was ok but nothing special. Bottom line...a very nice brewery but needs to pay attention to detail. read more

Crooked Thumb is always on the list of breweries to go to in Tampa Bay so I finally decided to check it out for myself. Here are my ratings based on different criteria: Quality of beer: Crooked Thumb has a great selection of beers. There's stouts, porters, red ales, and a few sours. There's even a wine selection. I tried the Smores Imperial Stout and Shady Tree IPA. Both beers were very fresh and delicious and tasted exactly how they should. Décor: Modern. The brewery feels modern and could easily be mistaken for a place in Hyde Park. There are wooden panels everywhere that bring a nice chill vibe. Cleanliness: No complaints. All the tables and floor were kept clean and sticky-free. Service: Friendly. They were happy to let you sample as many beers as you wanted before picking a favorite. Price: more than typical. I typically expect breweries to charge $6 for a pint of an IPA. I feel that Crooked charged a little bit more than the typical. If you want some great beers, live music, and a huge outdoor area to hangout then Crooked Thumb is the place to be in Safety Harbor. read more

This brewery always seems to be a hit or miss for us. Funny how that works but it is what it is so we continue to check them out to see what they have going on in their rotation. They do have during specific times Girl Scout Cookie Inspired Beers which have always been interesting and good to try. Who doesn't love Girl Scout Cookies? On different nights they will do Cards Against Humanity, which is hilarious in itself but add in a room full of strangers and it makes for a lot of laughter. They have a great beer garden with a lot of seating that is under giant shade trees to help with the heat and now with Covid restrictions, they have a food truck. Our first flight had 7 Dollar, BA Chocolate Coconut Dopplebock, Girl Scout Mint Chocolate Imperial Stout, S'Mores Stout, and Boisterous Shade Tree Blood Orange. read more

This is one of our favorite breweries in Pinellas County! They have a variety of beers available for all palates, including lagers, pilsners, pale ales, IPAs, berliners, speciality beers, etc. The ambiance of the brewery is always inviting, with wide open spaces and both indoor and outdoor seating. Pre-COVID, they had various card games you can play while you're sitting around enjoying a beer with friends and/or family. The outdoor space is perfect for social distancing during COVID times and has a nice ambiance with bulb string lights and fire pits in the cooler months. Staff here are always friendly and willing to let you try different options. They offer a variety of pours on their beers if you're looking to try an array of beers (i.e., 4 oz, 8 oz, full pints/16 oz) in addition to crowler fills if you want to get beer to go. Unlike some areas of Safety Harbor (during busier months), it's usually fairly easy to park here or ride your bike to if you're on a stopover from a trail. After trying a lot of the breweries in the Dunedin/Tarpn Springs area, we ventured a little east...and I'm glad we did. Nothing super fancy about the brewery itself, but a lot of little eclectic touches that made it a cool place. Service was helpful and efficient. The vast outside seating would be great during the more temperate months, and thankfully they are very good about dogs inside. That's almost as important to me as the brews. The beers were solid up and down. I tried most and found the Tuxedo T-shirt Stout to be one of the best stouts I've had in a long while. It's a little sweet, but full of rich malt and chocolate flavors. It drinks true to the last sip. And the name...I met my wife wearing a Tuxedo T-shirt...so there's that too. The Brut IPA drinks smooth like a really good, albeit dry, Pale Ale, with a touch of hoppiness. The Gose, a Wheat, and the Hazy were all drinkable. In the end, if I lived around here, I'd make Crooked Thumb a regular stop. read more

Moved away from safety harbor 30 years ago and I do go back to visit every once in awhile. In my day there were no breweries there was a post office on main Street along with pizza place and that was about it. Still safety harbor has its unique charm and the addition of a brewery is a good thing. With that said, I appreciate it the rust of nature of this place. I appreciate it the music. And I even appreciated the kitty cat that visits people. What I did not appreciate where the beer prices. Most beers were in the 6.00 to $7.50 price range. A bit steep. Parking was available on the street on a Saturday night but not in the parking lot which is pretty tiny. I will return on my next visit but I'll only have one beer given the price. read more

So we decided to take a ride and check out some of the brew pubs on the gulp coast beer trail. This was a great spot that feels like it is in the middle of nowhere. The sign is very low key so you need to keep an eye out when you get close. A wide array of beer choices and a very friendly bar staff make this a great stop. They offered 2 oz pours so I got a couple different beers to try. From a harbor lager to a grandpa jacks then a seven dollar shake and finally 727 gold ale. All were really good with my fav being the lager. A traditional German inspired lager tasted really good and easy to drink. Went to crooked thumb for their berry beer festival. $40 all you can drink with lots of local breweries offering samples. It rained but the event was still a lot of fun. They had 2 food trucks and live music. I'd go again on an ordinary night but parking can be tricky. Pro tip: There's a local park about a block away. I visited Crooked Thumb Brewery with a large group on a Sunday afternoon. We did not have a reservation, probably not a thing here but we were able to get a few tables outside. Great outdoor area with lots of picnic tables. There was a food truck (Westchase BBQ) serving from the truck onsite. I tried two beers, a hefeweizen that was a little milder than my taste and a milk stout that was really good. They have a really good selection of beers by type on their menu. Surely something for everyone. They also serve wine. You can purchase 4 oz, 12 oz and 16 oz draft beers if you want to put together your own tasting. They sell Crooked Thumb Brewery swag of you need to add another brewery shirt to your collection. Friendly service at the bar, no pretentious beer snobs here. read more

Awesome brewery located in a residential neighborhood. Parking lot was full so I parked across the street and hoped the business owners wouldn't mind (I didn't get towed...SHHHH). I came by here on a Saturday night and there was so much going on!! A 10 year old's birthday party, a reunion of some sort and a live band. Awesome! Obviously something for everyone! They have a great outdoor area with plenty of room to run (this place is pup friendly inside and out so bring your fur babies if they like breweries). Lots of indoor seating as well in the bar area. The beer selection also has something for everyone! IPAs, Wheats, Sours, Porters...all very unique. And the prices are great! You can have a 4oz pour for $2-$3, 12-16oz pour for an average of $6 and sizes up to 64 oz. growlers run around $14 for most drafts. They have really interesting flavors. I tried the Cornbread Stuffing Gruit which was pleasantly surprising! Herbal beer at its best!! I also sampled the DIPA and Boysenberry IPA which were perfect. Pink beer is an excellent sour. I did not have one beer that I did not like here. The staff was incredibly energetic and fun. Prices are excellent. Crowd is phenomenal. I really can't find anything bad to say about this brewery. No food, but they have chips if you're super hungry plus there's plenty of awesome restaurants in the area if you need to nosh. If you like beer and you enjoy a chill atmosphere, this needs to be a stop on your Tampa Bay brew hop list. read more

Right off the main drag of Safety Harbor is a COOL brewery with probably 50 beers on tap. It's one of our favorite go to places when we we visit family in Safety Harbor. There's abundant indoor and outdoor seating, and they have music from time to time in the garden. If in another city, this place would be PACKED. This review is not a 5 because it is the only true brewery in Safety Harbor, it is because it is awesome and has amazing beers! I actually live in Tampa and drive over here for their beer. This trip was an even better trip because they had a Chai Porter that was out of this world! I have allergies, and drinking porters and stouts are it for me, which was eye-opening because I thought I was a light beer girl...Corona all the way. And now, bring it on - the darker the better! How does that happen? No idea, but I am one happy girl and Crooked Thumb always has something to quench my thirst. Now, for my full review: I would say they could use some more parking, but that's not their fault - they are just so darn busy from the second they open their doors at 4p that it's a race for the spots and then the street parking is available. I always try out bathrooms and I am very happy to say you don't have to deal with gender neutral bathrooms here - meaning no urinals to smell in a brewery, girls...ewww. Makes me not dread a bathroom break, but you do have to watch because it is a single serve so watch for your chance to jump up! PLENTY of space to sit inside and outside, and there is space for kids to play outside so bring'ed along! Food trucks - this last trip was BBQ...Mmmmm. I didn't try it, but I have yet to have a few beers and then turn down a food truck OR complain about the offerings. Food is essential and Crooked Thumb makes sure we are fed! There are board games behind the bar that is first come first served and some of them I'd never even heard of...like. Cooking Scrabble?!?! What??? Last, but definitely not least, Crooked Thumb entertains...live music. Check. It's a full service brewery and deserves the 5 star, but mostly because of the beer. Surprisingly large brewery hidden in a residential area in Safety Harbor. They had a TON of beer on tap, well over a dozen, maybe even double that. I got tasters of all the styles I was interested in, they were all pretty solid. They allow dogs here, which is a huge plus for me! They fill 64oz growlers for $12-14, which is a steal for the greater Tampa area! Great neighborhood brewery, you should check it out. read more

This place simply rocks! We've had the pleasure of spending a few different Saturday afternoons here and it has always been a great time for all of us including our 3-yr old. The atmosphere: Great place to bring the kiddos with a wide open yard on the side and enough space inside if you prefer the AC. And staring at all the brewing equipment in the background as you're tasting their delicious brews makes it that much more personal. The beers: I find that local craft breweries are far too often leaning towards the hoppy side of beer trends trying to push the next level of IPA nonsense. Crooked Thumb, however, has a very balanced mix of everything from Belgian, to American lagers, to IPA's, to bourbon barrel blends. There is truly something for everyone here, which is rare in today's over-saturated craft beer market. The beers I tried were rich in color and flavor and were reasonably priced at around $6 for a 16 oz. The food: Yes food...not in house, but courtesy of the local food truck flavor of the month has been wonderful each time. I actually like the idea of a changing menu every visit based one whatever truck happens to be there that weekend. The parking: Easy-peasy with a lot on-site and plenty of room in the street if necessary. Note* This would also make a great bike stop if you were out on the Harley and looking for something off the beaten path. read more

My husband and I love this brand, order Crooked Thumb whenever we get the chance. Our favorites include Harbor Lager and Florida Grapefruit Gose (I love this one!! Perfect for a hot FL afternoon). The 4 stars is for the beer, just the beer, it's awesome. Yesterday was our first time going to the CT in Safety Harbor. We got there about 6 and were leaving by 7, having just one beer. I felt like I was at a Gymboree or some sort of children's day care center, children seemed to outnumber adults. They were running around screaming, throwing gravel. Definitely not a fan of that sort of scene, maybe later in the evening would have been a better time to go. We'll consider that if we decide to return in the future. Otherwise, I will happily support this brewery from home or one of the local bars in the area who carry CT. read more
