My kids actually enjoyed going to the dentist, and the entire staff was fantastic. About a year ago, I was having tooth pain and called to set up an appointment, and I was pleasantly surprised to get in the same day. However, when I showed up, I found out the entire old staff and Dr. Turnwald had left, and the practice had been sold to a new doctor--without any notice. Even the text and email confirmations still had the old dentist's name, so it was pretty frustrating to show up and find an entirely new staff and doctor. While the new staff was nice and the doctor was okay, the whole experience felt off-putting since I booked the appointment thinking it was still my family's trusted dentist. I also really missed my old hygienist, who always made visits easy for my kids. Honestly, had they been more upfront about the change when I called, it might not have left such a sour taste in my mouth. But now, I drive 30 minutes out of my way to see Dr. Black, where she has her own practice, and it's worth it for the care we receive. Most of the positive Yelp reviews here are for the old practice under Dr. Turnwald, and it says a lot that the entire staff left when he did. It started with the receptionist who greeted me with a smile and made the new patient process easy. Walked me through the payments that I'd expect to see and called after my last appointment to check on me. Who does that? Usually an office only calls to get their money from you. I think her service skills were exceptional and she treats the office as if it's her own and it shows. The dental assistants were all so great and kind. They got to know me and were extremely friendly. Many times you find assistants in a routine and forget that the patient requires a bit of interaction. I'm not expecting a Broadway show, but some warmness would be nice. I had also gotten a cleaning on my last visit and she did an excellent job. She made sure I stayed comfortable and she really listened to my dental concerns. She gave me recommendations, tips, and other solutions that the office offered (teeth whitening, electronic tooth brush purchases etc.) Finally, there was the Dentist. Who is the main reason the office flunks or not. Dr. Abboud was great- he was friendly, had gentle hands, and cared about your comfort. He didn't try to push any treatment on me. I knew going in what I needed and he didn't try to sell me another story. It's difficult to put your trust in another dental office after you've been disappointed numerous times. But I have my third appointment in a few weeks and that is already a good sign.
