Cross Electrical was my go-to electrician when the Cross family used to own it. It should be noted that now they have sold their services to Thomas and Edith. Of the Cross family, only Jerry stays behind as one of their electricians, but Jerry did tell me he is planning to retire soon. Over one month ago I noticed I had an issue where my refrigerator would be going out at night. At first thinking it was the refrigerator having issues, I soon noticed it was half the house. I called Cross Electrical and Jerry came out two different times but unfortunately could not diagnose the problem. I eventually called PG&E Thanksgiving day, and they diagnosed the issue as a tree root outside entangling with the live wire, which effectively tugged the line and destroyed my outside panel. To be fair, Edith was very responsive on Thanksgiving Day saying her husband, Thomas, the new owner, would be out the next day to see the problem and figure out a solution. Thomas saw the destroyed panel and told me he would try to do research on how to fix it, but with supply chain issues it might take awhile. I understood. I heard no word from any of them through the weekend and Monday. On Tuesday I tried texting Edith, and there was no response. I called the office but it was as if they disappeared. I called Thomas on his cell Thursday and he responded he was still looking into it and would get back to me shortly. That was over a month ago; I never heard from him again. If Thomas had told me from the beginning we just needed to replace the panel, then fine, I would have been okay with it. Because he never gave me a definitive answer, and then ghosted me, I wasted nearly two weeks and was effectively homeless through Thanksgiving. Because of the time it took to contact a new electrician and plan out a solution, I also could not be home for Christmas. I understand this was an unusual circumstance, but because of what occurred I could not be at home for the holidays, and it was just another ugly end to such an ugly year. I called Cross Electrical at 9am on Monday and left a message. My call was returned in 10 mins. Thomas showed up within 30 mins once he found out I was without power over the weekend. He arrived wearing a mask and told me he would be dropping his mask occasionally to smell for electrical burns. Which is important these days. After investigating several wall outlets he discovered the cause of the electrical burn odor was due to a blown transformer in the garage. He replaced the transformer and only charged me for the actual price of the part and one hour of labor. He even checked my circuit box to make sure there were no problems there. Jerry and Thomas at Cross Electrical just helped me install a NEMA 14-50 outlet and they were total professionals from beginning to end. The entire process took about 1 hour and I can see that they work well in a team. Throughout the whole time they were here, they were meticulous and careful, even bringing a portable vacuum cleaner to clean up any debris in the area. They were also kind enough to explain what they were doing step by step and really taking the time to lay all the options out for me. Edith was awesome too as she is the main point of contact for questions, scheduling, and almost everything else. I hired Doug and Cathy for installation of main panel, sub-panel and recess lights. Cathy takes care of scheduling. Doug was very professional and his prices are reasonable. He was on time and finished the work before the scheduled time. One day after installation of recess lights I started hearing buzzing sound. I informed Doug about it. His crew took due diligence to identify the issue and found it in the lights. Doug immediately bought new lights and replaced all of them. He also included the installation of CO and smoke alarm with no cost. As I had hardwired smoke alarm and the city asked me to install CO alarm, Doug had bought the battery based alarm and after finding that I had hardwired alarm, he bought a new hardwired alarm and replaced it. Overall a very nice experience. If you want his services, he is booked 2 months advance and so book him asap and you will not be disappointed. Our family had an issue with our dishwasher not working. It hasn't worked for well over a year and we never looked into it until I ran into a couple other odd electrical issues in the home. The dishwasher didn't work, we had an outlet only putting out 30V and we had a breaker in the garage that would not stay on or even turn on. At first my mother called another electric company. This other electric company was going to (after some time investigating): Run new power wiring from the breaker to the dishwasher, bypassing the wall switch that turns it on/off. Replace the breaker and all of the circuits. Relocate the breaker box and install a firewall, said it was not "up to code" etc. They even pressured her into locking an appt for the next morning immediately. Their initial quote was $6500 but since she agreed now they took off $1500 so the total for that work would be $5000. After some discussion between her and I it was decided to cancel and get other quotes. My mother found Cross online, called them, was really impressed with the family type company and very friendly staff. An appt was made and a technician was sent out. It was great that my mother received updates on the technicians whereabouts and timing. He was right on time, friendly, courteous and my mother was very pleased with him (so far). The technician didn't have to be in the house very long. After speaking to my mother and learning about her concerns it was a short time until he went right to the wall switch that controlled power to the washer. He immediately saw what the issue was and showed my mother the small jumper tab behind the switches and how it was never cut (father probably replaced it a while back). Since there was 120V coming in from multiple places the breaker was being overloaded and tripping. He cut the tab, turned the breaker on and all was well. That also fixed the outlet with 30V since for some odd reason the living room lighting outlet and the dishwasher are on the same line. He stayed to address any of her other concerns, did some final tests and headed out. Cross's total charges = $100 Basically they saved us more than $4800. Seriously they deserve 5 stars. They are very courteous and nice to deal with. So I had an issue with my microwave and refrigerator being on the same circuit breaker and the breaker kept on tripping. I called Cross Electrical and Kathy picked up the phone and gave me some good advise and even tried to save me money by giving me tips on what I can do without Doug needing to come over. Anyways I still asked for Doug to come and take a look as I was worried. Doug came promptly at the appt time, never met any contractor who was so gentle and nice to work with. Anyways he came and checked a few things electrically and gave me some suggestions on what to do to have the appliances on different circuit breakers. He did not take a single penny for giving all those advises and suggestions. He could have easily feigned to do something on the breaker and fuse box and something else and I would have paid since I would not have known any better. But he was honest and that is what I appreciated a lot. He was not like the other electrician (see my other reviews) who came and just turned on the reset button and I had to pay him 250 bucks for that! So there are good guys like Doug and Kathy. We used them to install a few celiing fans. They charged $300 for each,. Balancing was not included. i was told it would take hours and they charge by the hour. So we were to accept the fan shaking! They suggested i do it!! They failed to leave behind the wieghts that came with my fan. Failed to return them the day and time as agreed. It took a few calls to get the weights back. The worse part of the whole issue is that Mr. Cross told us our remote was bad. We paid $50 for a new fan remote. After the installation neither the the new remote or the old remote worked the new fan! Mr. Cross told us to use old remote to operate fan and the new for the fan lighting. That is just acceptable!! Our local handyman fixed the issue and installed our last fan for $75. It took him 15 minutes to balance the fan. Oh, and he fixed the remote issue Cross Electric couldn't figure out. Would never use this firm again. Would not recommend them to fan installation. read more
