TLDR: Good quality work, nice communication, competitive price. We had a very old sub panel and one circuit breaker is burnt and there are signs of damage in other places in the old sub panel. I decided to replace the entire sub panel. Jason reached out to us. And he is able to come to inspect at the same day. Not only did he inspect the current panel, but he also mitigated the burnt circuit so that we can still use electricity before the actual project is scheduled. He is a very trust worthy person! And the price is also competitive. The work is done nicely! Newer and larger panel replaced within one day and he and his buddy labeled each breaker correctly and matched the dry wall in another half day. I was looking on Yelp to find an electrician to install recessed lights in my kitchen and dining area. it's a little tricky since it's a vaulted ceiling with no attic space. I reached out to multiple electricians on Yelp and Jason was one of the first to respond to my request. He even offered to come on the same day to do an assessment. Jason gave great suggestions in terms of the placement of the lights and didn't try to upsell anything. Within a couple of days, I committed to Jason installing 11 recessed lights and updating the outlets in the kitchen. The quote that was given was very reasonable and competitive to the other electricians. During our assessment, we had mentioned that we plan to redo our kitchen and James mentioned that he can help with that. We did our due diligence and compared quotes from other contractors. McMahan Electric recently completed multiple electrical projects in my home including installing recessed lights, ceiling fan, new outlets in the bathrooms and replacing a bath exhaust fan. While there probably isn't much new information to add that hasn't been already mentioned in other reviews, I still want to publicly acknowledge the excellent experience we had. Let me start with the takeaway: Jason and James make an amazing team - they are experts at their job, very professional and yet very approachable, flexible and friendly. In my experience, McMahan Electric's 5-star rating is wholly justified, and I would contact them in a heartbeat for future electric-related needs. A huge thanks to my fellow Yelpers for guiding me to them. Some Details: When I requested a quote for recessed lights, Jason and James were very prompt in visiting my home. It was unusual to have a team visit for a quote, but their friendliness and openness during the visit made me solicit their input and request quotes for a bunch of other overdue to-do electrical tasks. For what its worth, I also did my due diligence and obtained quotes from multiple firms. As it happens, the quotes were all in the same ballpark. But it was J&J's (if I may call them that) transparency, patience and positive vibe (in other words, the very opposite of the usual 'used car salesman' vibe) that made me choose them and I'm glad I did. It was a multi-day job. J&J were punctual every time and made it a point to cover the floors and furniture as far as possible and use suitable tools to minimize the spread of dust and debris. They were flexible and stayed as long as it took each day (their decision, not mine) to get the job to a natural stopping point. They had great suggestions for the lights, fans and switches, and yet were open to my suggestions too - we eventually did a mix of both. As experts, they take pride in the quality of their work as well as the overall look that it creates in the home. For instance, we had challenges with one of our vaulted ceilings; J&J didn't simply accept my initial idea that we simply leave the room without ceiling lights (we weren't ready for the hassle of needing to patch up the ceilings and walls after the lights' installation, since contractors are nightmares more often than not)! They put thought into the issue to suggest a workaround. Here again, they were very open to my two (previously untried) ideas which were different from their suggestion. They convinced me against one of my ideas (thanks gentlemen!) but saw the value of the other one and implemented it without being dramatic about it (no 'my way or the highway' attitude) - that approach took a whole lot of measuring and verifying things behind the walls and in the attic, and we like how it turned out. We are enjoying our new lights and fans. Throughout the job they were patient with my constant presence, curiosity and questions; it was a joy to watch them work neatly and precisely in an atmosphere of camaraderie. On a different note, J&J partner with multiple experts in other trades and they helped us out with an unrelated non-electrical emergency while this job was ongoing. We are grateful for that. read more
