I've been coming here for close to 8 years. I followed the owner, Mike, over from another gym. Mike leads with positivity and is so encouraging. The best shape I've ever been in is under his programming. We have such a solid community at Darkhorse. This gym has created a little family where anyone is w embraced with open arms. For context, I've been doing crossfit on and off for over a decade and have been to many boxes. First, all the good reviews before 1/24 are before management caused all the coaches from the last several years to leave along with many members. I went here for the last few years and it was great! The coaches Jameson, Vince, JR, Miki, all amazing and top notch coaches (all forced out by management) The owners who were largely absent over the last 4 years decided to return and get rid of the coaches who were "The Comminuty" of DH. Also over the last several years the owner Mike, as I mentioned was largely absent from the business so much so when he would come in to the gym, maybe once every few months and he would never talk, interact or say hello to any of the members or coaches. So much so no one there even knew he was even the owner. The owners never so much as talked to any member before they decided to come back and get rid of all the coaches who dedicated themselves to running these people's gym for them. When I told the new managment/owners I would like to cancel my membership since all their best coaches where leaving, they then continued to try and charge my card several times then when they couldn't charge me another month they them harassed me for $74 because of their "30 day policy". However they did not give us a 30 day notice that all their coaches were leaving. The owners are also incapable of taking any type of reasonable responsibility for their actions and seem to place blame on everyone else like their coaches and members as is obvious from their overly defensive responce and emails. You don't need to just take my word, just look at how the management responded to and attacked the person (Sarit) a couple reviews back for speaking out about their experience. That member is really nice and normal and from the management's response you can see they have no idea how to treat people nicely and with respect. Lastly, I also can't support a gym run by anti-vaxers/Trump supporters which they are. This is not a dig but for many reasons including people's health I think that is an important fact people should know before giving them your business. read more

Oh boy where do I even begin with this review?? CFDH has literally been my saving grace. I've been going here for almost 2 years and each class is truly the best part of my day. I've actually gone to at least 2 classes a week for the past 50 weeks (and that should say something!) I struggled with finding a crossfit community after moving to LA and stumbled upon CFDH as it was the closest to my home. I'm so happy I landed here and am forever grateful to the coaches and the community for pushing me to be the best version of myself both in and out of the gym. This gym is super convenient for me to get to and I love the 24/7 access. Parking is also really easy. It is clean and put together well. It has all the equipment I need for my workouts. Coach Mike is great too. He's really friendly and has given me some helpful tips for working on my lifts. I highly recommend this gym. read more

Just started CrossFit about a month ago. Coaches are awesome and the people are great! Everybody has been extremely welcoming and supportive. Before your first group class the head coach does some one on one sessions with you to make sure you are familiar with all the exercises and that you do the workouts safely...and if you're like me, you'll still have a bunch of questions..but at CrossFit Dark Horse I have never once felt "lost" in the class. I used to drive by the old location and see people running with folks draped over their shoulders. I was like man, those people are crazy! Why would anyone want to do that? Little did I know I would be one of those crazy people the following year. I was very hesitant to try crossfit, but Darkhorse offered a FREE WEEK, so I couldn't resist. I was immediately blown away by the culture. The workouts were hard, the coaches were attentive, and the people were extremely welcoming and supportive. I kind of stumbled in here due to a combination of timing, traffic and reviews and boy what a find! Stacey was the instructor and she is exactly the kind of instructor a person needs; strong, thoughtful, kind, relentless, observant. The class was pretty hard for me and I loved it. There was this gorgeous wisp of a woman in class who looked like she was a lifetime of skinny size zero - but apparently she was 210 pounds when she started Crossfit Darkhorse! Wow! The environment is team oriented, warm, supportive and definitely challenging. Real mix of people. I really look forward to training here and I highly recommend this fitness facility for anyone serious about improving their mind body and spirit! we did: running, burpees, jumprope, lunges, throwing weighted balls, chin up, row, core work and a variety of other things. pretty crazy good stuff. read more

Coach Mike was my favorite coach when I used to drop in to Sherman Oak's Golden State CrossFit from time to time. He happened to teach most of the classes I attended. By coincidence a buddy of mine recently invited me to check out CrossFit Dark Horse and when I arrived I was delighted to see that he was coaching the class!!! I attended his 7:30am morning class last Tuesday and had an amazing workout of the day. I recently joined CrossFit Dark Horse after spending two years working out at home. In the short amount of time I've been going to CrossFit Dark Horse I have loved every class. All of the coaches prioritize safety in every workout routine. If you're not doing any of the exercises properly they're quick to jump in and help you correct to help prevent injury. I've been going to Darkhorse for quite sometime, I used to go to the gym. Ever since I've been doing Crossfit I can't stop, the sense of community is a big part of why I continue to go. Going to a regular gym to work out is boring after one of these workouts. They are not easy, and always challenging. I go even when I don't want to and always feel better after. All levels are encouraged and you do what you can for a workout. The coaches are constantly watching encouraging and correcting your form if needed. This place has changed my outlook on gyms. I have always struggled with physical fitness and every time I managed to get myself to the gym, I always got bored or did not work out properly and hurt myself. Prior to joining CrossFit, I had not stepped foot in a gym for almost a decade and was beyond out of shape. The team at CFDH is amazing, knowledgeable and able to help you regardless of your level of fitness. The classes/workouts are always varied and interesting, well suited to my eclectic personality and make me excited to go to the gym even at 5:15 in the morning. By the way, they are another level of awesome for accommodating 5:15 am classes for those us who work too long/far away to make later classes. The great community of people at the gym is also a huge plus. If you have been too intimidated to go to CrossFit, hopefully my story and the awesome team at CFDH will change your mind. Everyone, whether competing athlete or stay at home parent trying to squeeze in some exercise, is extremely warm and welcoming. Of course if you prefer to just do your workout and go home, people will leave you be as well. I have had an awesome time being a member of CrossFit Dark Horse! In 6 weeks, along with a good diet, I've lost 20lbs and I'm way stronger. That being said, she's managed to keep her workouts fresh and new for the last 6 years (has it really been that long??). Every time I go back, I'm sore for at least a week. It says a lot that I've been going back for this long, doesn't it? When Stacey opened her own studio, I was so excited for her! She's kept the class sizes small and intimate, allowing for tailored workouts and lots of personal attention. She knows how to motivate everyone and everything she does can be modified. I recently joined Dark Horse after being at another crossfit gym location for 2 years. I can't say enough good things about the Dark Horse Family. They are truly a community and welcomed my family with open arms. The coach made sure that everyone said hi during my first few classes there which was really nice and made my transition easy. The facility is what you would expect from a crossfit gym with all the regular equipment. After coming under new ownership, new equipment materialized which is always nice! The box is kept clean and organized and I appreciate having filtered water to fill my water bottle! The owners are really cool about letting me do my own workout during a designated class time as long as I stay out of the way of the class. Coach Mike (also an owner) is a favorite coach. He knows when to push me and when to let me do my thing and corrects my form when needed which is SO important. I have been training for a while now but only in the last 6 to 8 months or so have I become really serious because of Stacey. Stacey is the best Coach I have ever had; she really knows how to read people and what they need in a workout. She is amazing at keeping you challenged and making you push your limits without ever going too far and hurting yourself! The class is always changing and FUN!! Not only do I feel like I am in the best shape of my life thanks to Stacey but have made some amazing friends through Dark Horse and the Cross Fit Community. The Cross Fit Community really is a family and look out for their own. No matter if you have only been coming to class for 2 days, 2 weeks, 2 months, or years and years everyone is so supportive and friendly! If you really want to make a positive change in your life with health, getting stronger, and having a great support group to help you on your journey, than this is the place to come. It's like the Gym Version of "Cheers" where everybody knows your name! If you are unsure of doing Cross Fit because you have heard that it is to intense, Stacey has Intro classes. Just give it a try; you would be surprised at what you can do with a Great Coach. If last year someone told me I would be lifting the weight I am now, I would have laughed and said no way! Best trainer ever!! Seriously, Stacey is the best. I'm so glad I found her. She pushes you, but she'll listen and is happy to adapt if you have limitations or injuries (with no attitude!). I played sports in college, and she trains a bit like a college athletic coach. I absolutely love that, and it is hard to find. If that scares you, however, don't let it! She pushes you to your personal limit and works you up to more as your strength improves. Coaching is a lot about motivating people to work hard, and everyone is motivated in a different way. It's also about finding one's threshold. She's great at figuring out what style of coaching works best for you and how far to push you. Every workout with Stacey is different, which is so awesome b/c your body can't adapt since it never gets accustomed to a routine. She also teaches great form, which so many other trainers lack. Yet another thing I love about CrossFit Dark Horse, is that it's small and the members are like family. What to say? I'm in love with this place. For a guy that use to be in good shape but let his fitness and diet go when he got married 2 years ago, I was a little insecure about slipping into some frumpy workout clothes and trying to keep up with people 10 years younger than me. But I can honestly say that this ride has been incredible. I wanna share a couple humbling experiences. 1. First Workout My goal was to get through the workout. It was fun but very taxing. We ended with a run around the block. A pretty short distance but after 40 minutes of go go go I wasn't sure that I had it in me. It might have been the slowest run that could still be classified as running but I did it; and when I crossed the threshold to the gym I was met with applause. Complete strangers were cheering me on. This had to have been orchestrated, I thought. It wasn't. The encouragement and support hasn't weened one bit. I keep feeling like I should get a beer with my coaches and fellow cross-fitters, but then I remember they are still sorta strangers lol. 2. Day 2 I couldn't get out of my car I was so sore. But, no joke - 4 people had told me that I needed to come back the next day or I would regret my existence. So I did. I hobbled in and told the coach that I wasn't sure how much I could do but that I was there to try. Sure enough, 15 minutes into the workout I was loose again and could walk without grimacing. Most important lessoned that I've learned doing cross fit. If I'm sore, CrossFit will make me feel better. It's like a drug in that it creates it's own reward system, but the side effect is sexier lol. 3. Badass Partner ( I won't say what I think her age is in case I'm wrong) It was a weekend work out and we got broken up into teams of 3. Except for me and a lady that had a couple years on me. We were the team of 2. Each team has to x amount of things as a team so a team of 2 has to work extra hard. It was during the pushups that I couldn't finish my allotted portion. She took over for me. We killed it. I know it seems that I'm talking a lot about my personal experience. But these coaches/trainers (Stacey, Chris & Dee) have created an pretty incredible environment. It's positive. Playfully competitive. They make you believe you can do anything - and then make sure you don't hurt yourself trying. There are people that have 20 years on me I can't seem to keep up with. There are girls that have better muscles than me. But I know that a couple months from now I'll also be a source of motivation for new faces. I am seeing some pretty incredible changes in my body for only 4 weeks of working out - and I think my wife has less buyers remorse since I am quickly becoming the guy she married. The coaches are willing to show you how to scale down the workouts until you can build your strength, or until you can do the workouts as prescribed. Yep, another 5 star review. I was fortunate to train here for a month and everything about it is top notch. I came here with a month of Crossfit under my belt, so still a beginner. Stacey and all the other members made me feel very welcome. Some classes are big (10+), some small (2), but I always got a really good workout and had a great time. Besides standard CF classes, they offer barbell strength training, kickbox cardio, and endurance. This is a great place for beginners to start, as well as seasoned elites.
