I started working out here about a month ago. I get social anxiety at gyms so I am a little picky about where I'm comfortable working out. I was in communication with Geo via email who coordinated a free trial workout for me. When I went for the workout, I was approached immediately by the coach and they knew to expect me, which made me feel at ease immediately. During the workout I ended up getting really dizzy and briefly passing out! The coach was really cool and helpful and I was kind of embarrassed but she made me feel better about it. After that, Geo emailed me the same day and offered another free trial workout since mine didn't go so well that day. So I went again the next week, and there was a different coach this time, who was also very friendly. The workout went much better this time, and Geo followed up again the same day to ask if I wanted to become a member. I said yes! I go 2-3 times a week now. I love how spacious this gym is, it keeps me from getting anxious about taking up space to work out. I also love that the coaches put a lot of emphasis on mobility and warming up before the workout starts. I'm really happy here! read more

My daughter and I were visiting Baltimore on a last minute weekend getaway. Baltimore is where I grew up but I hadn't been home in 10 years. Alex loves CF and when we go on vacation she makes a point of dropping in at local gyms. I, on the other hand will normally go on a run. For the past few years it has been difficult to run for a number of reasons. I have now started running again but must find other means of exercising as well. I did a couple of CF classes years ago and decided to drop in with her since I did not feel comfortable running in an unfamiliar location. It was a fantastic experience for what I needed in terms of movement while I was on vacation. The experience was made even better by Kelsea who was incredibly welcoming and supportive. I dropped in for a 6:30 AM class on a Monday and initially noticed how spacious the gym was. All of the bars, plates, ropes, boxes, etc. were neatly organized and the restrooms were clean. Brian, who coached that day, was extremely courteous and welcoming as were the members. I noticed alot of reviews are for those who have done CrossFit for awhile. I'm a total newbie to the experience as well as a PREVIOUS Skeptic/Hater on the CrossFit community. Coming into this I didn't have a weekly workout routine so was pretty out of shape for fitness level. I lifted all throughout college for sports workout and was extremely in shape. Then, go figure, I get lazy and settled into not having a free gym and not forced to work out and get ridiculously out of shape (at least from what I was) I started at CrossFit reluctantly due to my work signing us up for it. I had a sour taste in my mouth as I thought it was going to be a bunch of jacked up jerks looking to hurt themselves Surprisingly, I loved it. Me, the biggest doubter of all. I didn't hate it. Now, don't get me wrong, the first week was brutal getting into the swing of things. I had not lifted in awhile, but Geo and staff took special time to go over the movements. My biggest worry was injury (I have old rugby injuries that need some care) and the staff took time to show me proper form, scale if needed, etc. I also worried I wouldn't keep up and look ridiculous. I've never felt out of place working out here ever. Also, If ya gotta scale, DO IT! I'm getting back into the swing of things and the coaches are always providing feedback of how to scale, how to get better, etc. I still don't get the Fitness and RX level etc, but I've lifted before so I know what's comfortable. Bottom Line - Whatever fitness level you're into - come to this gym. They don't make you feel like an ass and their coaches are the BOMB.COM. Phenomenal gym. read more

CFFH always impresses me as a very large, well equipped crossfit box (gym). I've only ever been here for CrossFit Level 1 certification courses and competitions, but every employee is super friendly and professional, and everything is really clean and organized. Regarding the Battle of Baltimore Competition: Last year (2015) I left with a bad taste in my mouth, since I truly felt the judging was inconsistantt and because there were a LOT of sandbaggers (people who would have signed up for a higher level but instead destroyed the competition in lower levels). HOWEVER, this past year (2016) was muchh improved with better organization throughout the day, great judging, and NO sandbaggers (okay, maybe one or two). Oh, and I love their owner/head coach Geo! This is an amazing place. I started in January and I was completely out of shape. Over the following 6 months, Geo and the rest of the coaches worked with me to make sure I learned how to do all the exercises correctly and to avoid injury. I went from out of shape and nervous about even going to a gym to a member of the community (and in much better shape) in no time. If you have a choice, this is the gym you should go to. Not too intense (unless you choose to be), friendly staff, but you still get an amazing workout in. All of the coaches are phenomenal too. read more

Having dropped in at a dozen or so Boxes across the country, I have a bit of perspective. CFH is in a class of it's own. The gym is clean, the equipment is organized, the classes start on time, the workouts are organized well, the coaches are friendly and knowledgeable, and the sponsor events within the community. They offer mobility, and more advanced competition classes for those interested. They have no problem with you staying after to work on a movement, work on mobility, roll out, do some more lifting, etc. Perhaps most importantly, the workouts are challenging, but can be scaled down to accommodate differing fitness levels. Each time there is a complex or potentially dangerous movement, the coaches take the time to go through the movement step-by-step to make sure that you are warmed up and exhibiting proper form. read more

This place is awesome. I've been to quite a few Crossfit gyms in and out of the country and this is one of the best of them. The coaches are awesome, the facility is awesome and the workouts are awesome. I go in the evening or early morning and parking is never a problem. It's street parking, but not in a busy area so works out just fine. Hugh, Alexa, Chris and Marissa are some of my favorite coaches. I highly recommend taking their classes or grabbing some personal training sessions with them. There are not better coaches around. Also, everyone there is really nice, encouraging-- they may not know your name, but you'll always get high-fives and cheers. Check it out, it's a great place. read more

I've been Crossfitting off and on for about ten years and I joined this gym about 1.5 months ago. This is by far the best Crossfit gym I've ever been too. The owner is so nice and from what I've seen always greets new clients. The coaches are all so friendly. I had David for my first workout and that must be the most motivated man I have ever met. Ever. I've taken Jaclyn's drive class a few times too and not only is she a great coach she is ALWAYS happy. Honestly. all the coaches are great. They have a separate Oly lifting class I would love to try but unfortunately the hours don't work for me. I'm mostly a morning person and for having to be there at 530am the coaches do SUCH a phenomenal job. There really is something here for everyone. I love this gym and I'm so glad I joined! read more

Honestly, some crossfits I have been to have been intimidating but the owners/coaches at Crossfit Federal Hill are friendly, welcoming and more importantly very knowlegable about the health industry. I appreciate that the coaches take a vested interest in actually teaching and motivating us, it is refreshing to be around people who are truly passionate about what they do! This place is HUGE at over 4,000 sq ft, new equipment and CLEAN as compared to some of the other dungeons I have seen out there. Do your body a favor and check this place out! read more

I've been a member of CFH for 3 years now, since January 2013. In the first 6 months of doing Crossfit I lost 30 lbs. My fiancé & I have since moved out of Federal Hill and still drive down to the gym 4-5 days a week. We couldn't imagine giving up CFH and all of our friends we've made along the way. I have been a member of CFH for three years. I am over the traditional age of a CF athlete and was not athletic at all growing up. A friend convinced me to join and at first it was intimidating but the coaching is terrific and the facility is well maintained and spacious. The coaches know my abilities and are able to help me scale where I need to. They are very encouraging and spend time at EVERY workout showing the proper way to do the movements and provide feedback when needed. If you were to ask Coach Glassman what qualities make a box successful he would say, one that treats its members like family. CrossFit Federal Hill is such a place, not only does it welcome you via the coaches but also with the athletes who are members. Never do you feel inadequate or not good enough, not fit enough or looked down on if you don't look like Rich Froning or Sam Briggs. You are treated like family and treated like the athlete you are and want to become. The instruction is consistent and if you walk up to ANY coach they will help you EVEN if they are doing a workout by themselves. Any box that can instill that sort of dedication for the coaches; to stress that the betterment of others is on their shoulders and they except it without hesitation. Is a box you need to go to. Its big but doesn't feel like a global gym, its added new sections but doesn't feel segregated. The balance is a commendation to Owner Coach Geo Rockwell for setting the bar of respect, dedication and standards for a well organized CrossFit Box I am SURE Coach Greg Glassman would be proud of. When I have my own box I WILL be modeling it after all the boxes I have had the great pleasure to workout in, but CFH will own 80% of the input. read more
