I love this place…read more After almost a year of one-on-one personal training (see my previous review), I started going to the MWF morning small group training classes. It's a little more economical, I still get a great workout, and I get to do it with a group of really awesome people! What's not to love?! I love the flexibility that the MWF group classes offer. If I have an 8 am meeting, I workout from 5:30-6:30 instead of the 6:30-7:30 time. There is even an 8:45 am workout that is great if I have a day off and don't want to get up early. The workouts themselves are always different, so I never get bored. I also never know what to expect until Coach Heath writes the sets on the white board. He then shows us proper form for the first set, and then turns us loose. He's there to keep track of the time, make sure we're doing the moves correctly, and answer our questions. The "sets" typically consist of 5-6 exercises, where we do each exercise for 30 seconds until we've gotten through the set three times. Occasionally there will be a set that is at your own pace. There is usually a "finisher" too. I'm not sure where the name comes from, but you are D.O.N.E. when it's over. The prowler is aptly named, because it's difficulty sneaks up on you during those last 5 or so yards. I've also gone to the evening large group training class once or twice. The intervals there are for 60 seconds, which seem like an eternity when you're used to 30 seconds. Muay Thai classes taught by Bryan Carroll are a fun and challenging addition to the classes offered by SlinkFit. There is an additional fee for these classes, but they ROCK and are totally worth it! If you've read this far, you might be like, "Ok, sounds great. but I'm REALLY out of shape. There is no way I could survive one of these classes." I'm not gonna lie. It'll be hard, but all of the exercises can be and will be modified to your fitness level. All the trainers are great about showing modifications. You will be surprised at how quickly you build strength and won't have to modify as much the more you do the workouts. The other excuse people make is: "I don't want to work out in a group because I'll look stilly fumbling through exercises." The rest of the people in the group can barely see past their own sweat. No one is paying attention to what anyone else is doing. Promise. So quit making excuses, join a gym that you will actually use, get fantastic workouts every week, and meet new friends. You game?

You're better off not signing up and just walking in. 2. Brining guests is a complete hassle and you're charged a non refundable fee of $25 if life changes happen and you don't come with a guest that day. On several occasions I was denied guests even tho it was well before the required 24hour application to request them. On multiple occasions my requests were completely ignored and went unreported to even if they were placed 72hours in advance. I was frequently traveling to KC for work and sports only to be hassled when my wife visited from LA stating that I reached my cap for local guest passes (mind you, she lives in California full time and would visit me about once or twice a month for a weekend) 3. Steam room in women's bathroom is utterly disgusting and wasn't cleaned since I was there over a several month period, how'd I know? The dirt streaks and giant clump of hair that just remained of the floor for over 6months 4. Coming from Los Angeles and the Heimat gym where I pay $350/month, I was excited to try this gym... but this gym is clearly nothing but a wanna-be elite gym. The best part of this place is the flavored water in the women's locker room- And maybe the pools in the summer but good luck finding parking 5. Looking to bring up an issue with the staff and escalate it? Don't worry, they're happy to ignore you. Trust me, you're not gonna miss this place. Only thing it's memorable for is being complicated while trying to use its perks and over complicated. The 2 stars are for the water and the equipment. The cleaning staff is super nice tho!

However, it can get busy there and the hot tub chlorine does sting my eyes a bit. There is also a steam and dry sauna there (both men and women in there). Parking is also difficult to find close by with how many people go there now. The women's locker room was nice, but honestly I expected the showers to be nicer and more modern. We stopped by the cafe on the way out. I tried the grilled cheese and tomato soup. The grilled cheese had apples in it and had good flavor. However, the tomato soup just tasted like thick, sour, tomato paste. It was not creamy like typical tomato soup.

They are a CrossFit gym but they also offer so much more from boxing, HIIT, yoga, kids classes, and a cold plunge and sauna. They offer all of the latest equipment and weights you can use. The schedule is very flexible as they have classes starting at 5am all the way to the latest at 615pm. They also feature a supplemental area where you can buy various pre workout drinks, electrolyte replenishers, and protein powder. They have two big areas for CrossFit classes and plenty of space to use the equipment. All of the classes I have taken there the coaching has been top notch. They really go over the correct form for the lifts and you are always leaving the gym sweating and feel you have had a great workout. I can't recommend this gym enough as everyone has been friendly and offers a great community and support for newbies. It is super easy to sign up for classes and the price is reasonable for everything you get and all the extra amenities that are offered.

I am writing this review because I am a huge fan of Chris' program and not because I am in any way…read moreconnected to Synergy Fitness other than being a very satisfied client. Chris Spears has developed a great fitness program at Synergy Fitness. It is a small-group personal training concept that delivers an very efficient full-body workout in less than one hour. Each session incorporates several different exercises in a short-interval format. TRX bands, medicine balls, kettle bells, Bosu, bands, ab rollers, platforms and free weights may all be used. The workouts change every day. Each exercise employs several muscle groups, so that you get an entire body and core work out in addition to aerobic exercise. This is done in a low-impact style where Chris emphasizes using the correct technique to maximize the benefit of each exercise while minimizing the chances of injury. I have worked out for many years and most recently had done kick-boxing and circuit/HIIT/boot camp classes. However, I injured my foot early this year and realized that I had to limit the amount of high-impact exercises to allow my injury to heal. I found Synergy Fitness through a Groupon that Chris was offering and it is the best thing I could have done. I have a longstanding lower back issue which intermittently flares up with exercise; in the last few years, I always have had a minor to major ache in my lower back. Rolling over in bed, bending over, etc. could frequently be painful. With the strengthening of my core through exercising at Synergy combined with better awareness of how to protect and stretch my back, I am now largely pain-free after only a few months. It has been so gratifying to not feel this pain as I go through my day, and I give Chris' program a lot of credit for helping me achieve this goal. People of all fitness levels work out at Synergy and the class format works well for those in great shape as well as for those just starting or getting back into working out. Chris has a great personality and I really enjoy the time I spend there. With work and two kids at home, I love the fact that I can get an amazing workout in 50 minutes! He has several morning and evening classes every weekday and morning classes on Saturdays. And while I like to think that I'm in really good shape, I also realize that it is easy to injure myself (late 40's). I like the fact that the goal is not to perform the exercises at a frenetic pace, but to do them at a pace that allows me to get the maximum benefit from each exercise without unnecessarily risking injury. There are usually 4-8 people working out in a class with room for 12 and the atmosphere is very pleasant. It's not unduly competitive and people are friendly. I feel that many people could benefit from this type of class. If you are thinking at all about trying it, I encourage you to go. It usually takes a class or two to get familiar with many of the exercises you will encounter, but then it is easy to pick up any new exercises. Chris and Michael are great at explaining and demonstrating the workout at the beginning of every class, and they give feedback throughout the session on an individual basis. He has a great introductory offer for new clients - 10 sessions for $35. There are many more reviews/testimonials if you go to his website: http://synergy-fitstudio.com. Go for it!
