My boyfriend Cody and his buddy Euzel have known Joel the owner of the Armory for a few years now…read more They worked out with him when he was a trainer at ECA. Since then, they have followed him up to his new gym! I swung by a couple of Saturdays ago and did a 30 min workout here with the guys. I didn't know what to expect, especially since I have never been to a crossfit gym before. Our workout that morning was more conditioning exercises and I actually enjoyed it! We did the 9 AM workout with Coach Anna. I struggled with push presses and Joel and Anna were there to walk me through the movements when my form was not correct. Thank you! Cody was sore the following days and could barely lift his arms. I was decently sore as well. Meaning it was a great workout and it was only 30 min! It is a great space, very clean, and the coaches are very enthusiastic for you to be there! I'll definitely go by again when I am around on the weekends more!

Everyone has been really friendly and nice, and the instructors are great about explaining things for noobs like us (we've never done CrossFit before!) - also major plus, there are about the same number of women as men attending classes which is super inspiring and makes us feel comfortable. - nice, clean and well organized. We're doing a competition to get back into shape so decided to do unlimited classes and weekly training. We'll report back in a couple months on progress made

Coaches Emily, Molly, Brandon and Henry have the right amount of spunk to keep me pushing through a difficult yet super fun class! My wife and I have had an absolute horror of an experience trying to cancel our memberships here…read more We were both unlimited members, and despite following their procedures, we have been met with total lack of transparency and predatory billing. I submitted my cancellation request on January 31 and received written confirmation that my membership would be finalized by March 2. Their email explicitly stated they would "promptly contact" me regarding any outstanding issues or fees. They did not. Instead, they stayed silent for over 30 days while continuing to bill me $56.38 every week. It wasn't until after my confirmed end date passed that they suddenly mentioned a $199 early cancellation fee. By withholding this, they forced me to pay over $225 in extra weekly dues that I could have avoided had they been transparent in January. To top it off, they processed a final unauthorized charge of $220 on March 5--well past my confirmed cancellation date. My wife was on a month-to-month membership and cancelled in late January. Management admitted to an erroneous charge from late February and explicitly promised her a refund in March. Not only did they fail to refund the money, but they have now sent her to collections for a payment they admitted was a mistake. Management has ignored their own written procedures and confirmed deadlines just to squeeze more money out of our accounts. We have filed a formal dispute with our bank and a complaint with the Washington State Attorney General. Avoid this studio unless you want to be billed indefinitely and sent to collections after you leave.

Case in point, on day one the owner diagnose an issue that I was having with my form for one of the Olympic, weightlifting movements, which another gym in the areas coaches hadn't noticed for seven months, and had led to an injury. Day one Joe diagnosed the problem and it was fixed without me even asking! There are two sides of the gym, dedicated for electric weightlifting on one side, and the other side, high intensity, interval training. This shit is easily accessible, clean, and has easy parking. It is not a globo gym, nor is it simply an iron fitness. There is space for what you need if it's a casino workout, or you're dropping in for open gym or individual weightlifting session. Coaches run classes on time, one hour, which is not the experience that I have had other community style gyms in the past in the area. American flag over the door, attentive coaches and community, never asking for reviews online (a great plus!), accessible in ten minutes or less from JBLM, Lakewood, all the way up to Ruston. Great location for access!

If it were possible to leave a 0 star review I would. Save…read moreyour money, time, and energy and go literally to any other gym. The draw for ECA over big places like LA/24 hour was the smaller business vibe & I wanted to "shop local". I also liked the childcare options. 1. when we signed up at the Ballinger Village location with Brody, he made a big show of telling us (my husband and I) how they're a small business and they're not out to get money, he said most of them are just personal trainers or nutritionists, NOT BUSINESSMEN (i remember this line because he repeated it several times). So he encouraged me to sign up for the champions class. I asked specifically if I could cancel if it didn't fit my needs/baby schedule. He said "of course. But I'd recommend you try it for at least 60 days so you can really see if it works for you. And if you still need to cancel, just reach out. We're really chill here." This was near verbatim. 2. After more than a couple months, I found the champions class great for others but not for me/my toddler's schedule so I emailed to cancel which was the ONLY option I was given. And the email response was short, rude, and included a "$299 + tax downgrade fee" for the cancellation. Mind you, I wasn't trying to cancel our membership. Just MY champions access. I told them what Brody had told us just months prior and they absolutely didn't budge. That's fine. It's policy - I get it. But this is totally the kind of stuff big businesses pull and they should be up front. 3. We ended up completely cancelling our memberships (both of us) because we thought this way of business was shady and when you think about the cost and what they offer v. what big gyms offer (LA/24) then you'll realize it's absolutely not worth it. all that talk in the beginning is EXACTLY what it sounds like. a sales pitch. don't be sucked in. **I will say the teachers at the childcare are above and beyond. I have told everyone I know about our ECA experience and hopefully saved people quite a bit of $$$ but I have nothing negative to say about the teachers at childcare. ** in case my review is too long. read this reddit forum. https://www.reddit.com/r/Seattle/comments/oanvzy/emerald_city_athletics_a_toxic_manipulative_and/
