Change Your Life While Having Fun…read more.. My wife and I are seniors in our 70s, but remain active. I've gone to the gym 3 days a week for many years while she's taught Jazzercise and gone to Zumba classes for a long, long time. But something was missing. Pilates at Tabula Rasa is a kick in the pants. Pilates is meant to strengthen your core muscles. Between introductory sessions and a package of 10 classes for $275...all with the owner, Vanessa (although there are other trainers)... we've worked on things we didn't know existed. - Overall: 5 - Owner: 5+ - Getting Started: 5 - Range of Classes: 5 - Online Management: 5 - Yurt: 5 - Class Size: 5 - Personal Attention: 5+ - Cost: 4 - Location: 5 - Facilities: 5 - Parking in Dry Weather: 5 - Parking in Wet Weather: ? Pros: - The owner, Vanessa Dominguez, is amazing. Her knowledge, ability to explain and pay attention to each person even in a class of 2-6 people is uncanny. Her energy is breathtaking - literally. If we were back in the 1970s or 80s, Vanessa would be on TV with best selling videos. - Sample the equipment in her studio, ask whatever comes to mind and get a feel for what it's all about at no charge nor obligation. - There's a big range of classes at most hours of the day with several highly skilled and motivating instructors. - Managing your pilates schedule is simple, online and flexible. - All classes are behind Vanessa's house in a "yurt"...a big teepee shaped building with lots of equipment. It's actually quite spacious and comfortable with air conditioning and a big fan dropping down from the center. - Classes are limited to 6 people, although most we've seen had 2-4. Lots of personal care if you need it and each session is tailored to the attendees. - Cost is not "cheap", but reasonable - Location is convenient for residents of Nipomo - it's within a mile of Trilogy and Black Lake - and not bad for those in Arroyo Grande. - If you're hungry, thirsty or need a bathroom, she's got feee snacks, water and facilities. - There's a big parking lot in front of Vanessa's house for cars and trucks. Con: - Yes, there's one con. The parking lot is not paved so when the rainy season arrives there will probably be lots of mud. Our weekly pilates session changed our lives. Now all we've got to do is find a good place to park when things are wet.

Amazing instructors (especially Vanessa and Kay!) and the cutest location! Great app that easy to…read moreuse. Love!!!!!

I have been working out with CrossFit group workouts for a couple weeks, and it has been so great…read more I love the workouts and everything I have learned so far with the coaches. I especially love the positive energy every morning. Everyone is so nice and welcoming! I am always able to modify anything to my comfort level and I feel like the coaches do their best to check on me during group workouts and make sure I understand the technique. I would recommend Crossfit solid core to anyone looking to get in shape, build consistency, and learn something new.

I found Solid Core on the CrossFIt.com website, the beauty of the CrossFit communityis that "drop-ins" are allowed and encouraged. I have always felt welcomed at the gyms I visit, Solid Core was no different. Coach Erin welcomed me in, I always arrive early to get the paperwork done and look around the facility. It's a standard crossfit gym with all the proper equipment and apparatuses around the gym. The work out started with a quality warm-up complete with static and active stretching and an EMOM (every minute on the minute) of active movements to get the blood flowing. I always appreciate when coaches integrate the movements of the metcon (the actual workout of the day) within the warm-up. The metcon was both challenging and fun, both movements were my weaknesses. Coach Erin encourages the athletes to scale appropriately and encouraged us to scale within the workout if the movements proved to be too difficult. The entire group were warm and welcoming despite it being 5:30 AM, I felt part of the group and really enjoyed the workout and camaraderie. If I lived in the area, this would be my Box! I highly recommend trying out Solid Core either if you are a seasoned crossfitter or thinking about trying crosssfit for the first time!

The positives: - the owner is very nice and accommodating for my unusual request of just a single month membership to keep up my fitness and boxing practice while visiting for a month. - some of the trainers were amazing (others not at all (more on that later). - I do enjoy the no set class times so you can just go whenever you're done with work or need to get to the gym "now" because your motivation may not last. - They seemed to do quite a bit of member events and socials outside of the gym (unsure if that's because it was the holiday season or if this typical year round). - When I had a trainer I liked, it was a pretty good workout and can see why some people enjoy 9Round. The negatives: - the trainer makes ALL the difference. I honestly wish I had explored more of who the other trainers would be during the week vs during the weekends. I started adjusting my work schedule to avoid trainers I didn't like... - If you don't like super loud music in a tiny space, this isn't for you. I'd leave with a headache most days because it was just too much. - This isn't a gym for people who need physical accommodations. Some trainers were better than others, but they definitely didn't enjoy the fact I didn't feel comfortable kicking given surgical metal in my ankle and so it hurt like a MoFo to do any of those moves. You also ALWAYS start in Round One with jump rope... that was brutal. - The class times are really bizarre. They're open in the morning for a bit, close for an hour, and then open again for 90 minutes and then are closed all the way until after work hours. It's weird they don't have a lunch time option given how quick and efficient the workout is. I wish I would have realized that before signing up. - They make you switch your stance all the time (fighter stance to non-dominate stance) and even within the same combo. While I get what they're trying to do (even out the effort on both sides), this lead to me pulling muscles because my form was so off when trying to be SouthPaw vs just staying in my fighter stance. Not to mention it's super confusing to think about it when you're already taxing your system with a hard workout. All in all, I see what people enjoy 9Round and are very loyal to it, but it just wasn't for me. I want more of a mix of weight lifting and cardio and this gym just doesn't offer that type of workout.

This is such a rad place to go to get your butt. The concept is really brilliant and I can't…read morerecommendit enough. It's a full body workout that takes 30 minutes. There's no class times so you can pop in literally whenever. There are 9 two minute rounds of various cardio kickboxing and strength exercises and theres always a trainer available to help you with your form and make sure you are pushing yourself to the limit! All of this while monitoring your heart rate to make sure you are doing so safely! Stephanie the owner is so sweet and has really put together a killer crew.
