After giving birth to burrito last year Phil and I rediscovered our love for food on the Northshore. We realized we were eating out almost every day and decided to capitalize on it by documenting our meals and experiences. The more restaurants we visited and reviewed, the more we wanted to share with our friends and family. This quickly became part of our routine. After doing this for several months, I realized this was supper counterproductive to losing the baby weight and overall health. I started going for 30min walks every day, and when that became super boring, I signed up for planet fitness, and when that didn't yield any results, I started taking yoga classes sporadically. I wasn't able to keep up with any of these for one reason or another, so I decided to move on to something new. As our blog grew and the length of time I spent on Instagram increased, I started to notice this gym pop up on friends' pages or in my feed sometimes in other friends' stories. White wolf seemed to be sending me subliminal messages. I spent weeks creeping and basically stalking their content before I finally decided to DM Joe, the owner. He invited me in to do a 2-week, and the rest is history. Phil and I are still working out some kinks in our routine, and the struggle to attend classes consistently is still there. But there's nothing like taking one of Joe's classes. This gym is the embodiment of Cross training. And Joe always keeps it interesting. I have yet to be bored or come out of a class feeling like I wish I never came. What does happen is your motivation is ignited. I'm continually hearing other members talk about how much stronger they are since coming here or sharing words of encouragement to stick with it and be consistent results will occur. I am certainly glad I was wrong about that, and after one workout I was hooked. The trainers are excellent at modifying moves for beginners or if you have any physical limitations. The team atmosphere and the workouts are like nothing I have ever experienced at any other gym. This place motivates you to get better and work harder every time you walk through the door, something that I wasn't getting at my regular gym. I would typically wander around doing a little of this and a little of that and convincing myself that it was better than nothing. I guess that would be true if I was in the shape that I want to be in, but I am not. At Crossfit the workouts are laid out for you and the atmosphere makes you push yourself to a level that you didn't even know you had. I know that after 6 weeks I feel stronger and leaner than I have in a very long time. If you really want to make a change in the way you look and feel, you should give it a try.

Tara responded promptly to my request for information about being a drop-in visitor ($20 fee, have your home coach send us a note with any training concerns, & please being a T shirt from your home gym ... All good info !!) and last Wednesday, I found myself here ! I felt VERY welcome, the coach introduced himself & made sure I knew what was going on, where to warm up, etc. Dave, the owner, also came over & said hello. I met some fun people, had a great workout, and would definitely return here if I am in the area again. The space is well laid out, all the equipment was familiar to me - standard Rogue boxes, etc - and the gym appears, to me anyway - to be run by professional, safe & sane folks who exemplify what I want Crossfit up be. I found no "hacks" here. If I lived in the area, this would be my gym.

Both the coaches I had - Vic for 7pm and Mia for 6pm - were knowledgeable, organized, and very friendly and encouraging. I especially appreciated Vic for pushing me during the workout and Mia for her thorough movement prep and warm-up. The "Box" is more the size of a football field than any Box I have seen before (save for CF OBX, which is massive too). Chase (owner?) was very responsive to my e-mails about coming in and treated me just like the regulars when it came to giving pointers and motivating me to push myself. When I…read morefirst started working out here, the employees were all super friendly, now they're all miserable. There was also air conditioning in here at the time, but now there isn't. Sometimes it's hotter inside that it is outside and there is only one fan near the treadmills, and I can barely feel it even when I'm directly under it. There has been a lot of unneeded renovations in the past couple of years, and it has been really inconvenient. I don't care if the gym looks like the Taj Mahal, I just want a functioning bathroom and workout equipment and there have been times there have been neither because of construction. This summer I was hoping to get back in shape but every time I went, they have been closed for one reason or another. The latest excuse is they were replacing the workout equipment, which I do admit they desperately need, especially for the treadmills. I was looking forward to trying out the new equipment, but surprise, surprise, I went today, and it was closed again! The new reason is infuriating--they're not 24/7 anymore! This location is really out of the way for me but being able to go anytime I wanted made it worth it. I usually work out later at night, so I guess I have to find a new gym now. I also don't know what the actual hours are now because the hours on yelp and the hours on the Planet Fitness website are completely different. According to Yelp they are 24 hours Monday through Thursday, but Planet Fitness says they closed at 12 am Monday through Thursday. And according to this website, they're going to be returning to 24/7 in September when the Planet Fitness website says nothing about that. I'm really getting sick of this guessing game, and I plan on joining a new gym soon.
