We hired Crossman to do our landscape and hardscape (front, side, back yards). Generally good work with competitive pricing but lacks in communication and expectation setting. There are multiple instances of "not being on the same page" on how or when to get work done which led to confusion and frustration. Their crew tends to make assumptions about what the customer wants and does not ask clarifying questions. They just do work and make decisions without asking. They were also careless on a few occasions and damaged the the exterior paint of the house and the concrete. I had to point it out before they fixed it. Related to poor communication, there were several change orders required to complete the project. They were not good at calling out additional costs and I got surprise invoices that had to be negotiated. In all, I'm happy with the project but likely would not work with them again. read more

After we bought our home we learned that the company the previous owner had used to clean up the canyon we're on (for fire codes and accessibility) had done a poor job, leading to erosion issues. Lesson learned: don't just hire some guys with giant clippers! It takes skill and strategy to properly clear and protect - especially if you're on a canyon! It's been so refreshing to work with Crossman - they know what they're doing, and actually explained the process of defensible landscaping, what to cut or plant and why, etc. Their crews are pleasant and professional too. Terry and his crew did a great job. They fixed my existing drip system and added more. They put tubing around the plants and trees so they would get the appropriate amount of water. Terry was knowledgeable about the plants I have in my yard. He explained which plants needed fertilizer and why certain plants were getting sunburned. We're ready for any fire!!! We received a flyer advertising defensible space hanging on our front door. It's been in the back of our minds knowing that we've had years of over grown shrubbery on 2 sides of our home and that it was a potential problem in the event of a wildfire. We contacted Crossman Landscape and both owner Rod Crossman and their defensible space specialist came out and made an assessment of what needed to be done to better protect our home during the fire season. As we were discussing different options, it was educational to learn the different types of defensible space and depending on what city and county you lived in, the various regulations established by the governing Planning Departments, County Health Departments and Cal Fire regulations. With cutting down all of our shrubbery, it was brought to our attention that we would be left with exposed dirt so their specialist suggested low fuel native ground covers to protect our slopes from erosion during the rainy season. As a secondary line of defensible space, he also suggested a decayed on grade galvanized irrigation system with fire proof golf course type sprinklers that would apply large amounts of water during a wildfire. We passed on the sprinkler system and had them go ahead with the shrub removal and erosion planting which they completed within a weeks time. The plants are doing well showing new growth and 3 months later, we called Rod back and had him install the defensible space sprinkler system. They honored their original price and were completely professional from start to finish. read more

We hired Crossman Landscape, Inc based on their Yelp 5 star ratings. There were only 4 posts but all were 5 stars. We had a small landscape redo with not a lot of $$$ and had trouble getting callbacks and companies showing any interest in our landscape project. Well thanks, Yelp, based on Crossman's 5 star ratings we decided to call them and kept our fingers crossed hoping for a call back. Within an hour, we got a call back from the owner Rod Crossman and he was definitely interested to learn more about our landscape ideas. Prior to setting up a meeting, Rod offered a few phone numbers of similar types of clients and encouraged us to call them for a recommendation. During our first meeting we explained what our landscape thoughts were and Rod offered possible suggestions for alternatives we hadn't considered, saving us money yet achieving the same if not better results. Crossman Landscape's construction crews were in and out within 2-1/2 weeks and their workers were polite, professional and left only their footprints at the close of each day.
