If you want a cake with a name written on it, then a place like Weinrich's is that kind of place as they will be happy to fill your named cake order...as will any supermarket in any town. Crossroads was NOT built as a standard "sugar bakery" nor was it ever its original business intent. Crossroads was built to serve a client base that deeply cares about the food they eat, how the food is prepared, the absolute quality of the ingredients used, being unique in the neighborhood and serving those clients. There are a million sugar bakers in Bucks and in Montgomery counties that will write names on cakes for anyone. There are NOT many unique bakeries that create rustic, old world treats like Crossroads. Crossroads has simply returned to what made them great to begin with. For pastry chefs and those in the culinary field, this place is the bomb. For those in the know, Crossroads cannot be beat. If success has "gone to their head," then their heads have returned to what made them great to begin with so they can continue to forge forward creating NEW and unique items to bring to their menu. This is the only place that I've found so far in the U.S. where quality of the French pastries (croissant, pain au chocolat) match that of a decent bakery in France. I try to come here as often as possible, or when I have time in the morning, so that I can grab pastries for my family and they all agree. I've gotten several birthday cakes from here as well and have never been disappointed with the quality. The cafe au lait's are perfect, staff is extremely courteous, and the pastries are phenomenal. We are so lucky to have this close by.. Bravo guys! read more

Good bread and average pastry we have been going here for 15 years. However the staff and customer service is horrible!! Two different people on two different days leading up to Thanksgiving waited on us. Not one person said thank you for our order or happy Thanksgiving. Throughout the regular season we have noticed that the staff is rude and abrupt at times. We will get our pastries at Altomontes and our breads at Panera from now on. It is not worth supporting this local business any more as we have tried over and over but the the staffing from the front desk up to the managers is lousy.Never again!!! read more

It upsets me to read reviews bashing this amazing Bake Shop. In todays world you get what you pay for. So if you want a cheap treat or bread go to the grocery store and you can have you less expensive processed crap and they will write your HAPPY BIRTHDAY, if that is really want is important to you. To call this place a "Bake Shop" is not doing it justice! This is the ultimate place where those of us who are Carb Junkies can indulge the senses and tastebuds in the best breads, cakes, cookies and other delights you can imagine. I make a special trip to Crossroads every couple of weeks for the scones and the terrific Italian jam-filled thumb cookies. I have also had their fruit pies (to die for!) and several of their cakes - you just can't go wrong! I love their breads and rolls as well, and just tried their homemade pizza this weekend. Took home a few slices for lunch, heated it up and thoroughly enjoyed every lip-smacking bit. Just the right amount of sauce, cheeses and seasoning on a thin crust, cut into a square. I will definitely try this again. Their quiches also looked wonderful and they are on my "must try" list. If you are in the Doylestown area, you absolutely must try Crossroads! read more

I had one of those "Harvard Business Case Study" moments yesterday afternoon at this bakery. My wife and I had ordered a half-dozen donuts for Fat Tuesday. I was asked when I would like to pick them up, said 3:30pm. We were running behind schedule and arrived at 4:10pm. I was told, believe it or not, my order was pulled and sold. . . Can you imagine that? They took an order and because I did not pick it up at 3:30pm, they sold it to someone else. How can you justify this behavior? We've lived in this area for 23 years and have been loyal customers. The sad result is they've lost a good customer over a few dollars they grabbed from someone with cash in hand. read more

Where to start? Well the good news is the pizzas, quiche, and focaccias are very tasty, but usually they are cold and have been sitting out by the time I get to them (around noon). They can be heated in the microwave by the staff but this isn't necessarily advertised. The bread is the staple of this bakery and is worth the visit. The coffees and drinks are pretty good, however the green tea matcha latte recipe has changed (the barista told me it's literally been watered down). Now the bad news. Sometimes the pastries still have wax paper on them or have eggshells. Moreover, they come in different sizes every day so you aren't always getting your money's worth. The sandwiches are overpriced and the cakes/desserts need more sugar because they greatly lack flavor (the "Family Favorite" tastes like play-doh). I also found a bristle from what I assume to be a baking brush in one of the pies I bought and almost threw it out thinking it was a hair. This place also doesn't have a recycling bin for customers! While I do like the ambience and the friendly staff at Crossroads, I think the products need a serious revamping. I am saying this as a customer who has been coming here for quite some time and still thinks it has the potential to improve. read more

The best baguettes, pain au chocolate, quiche - I am grateful every day that a town this size has a place you can meet your friends and neighbors to enjoy coffee and baked goods that are as good as can be found anywhere in the world. After a quick internet search for Doylestown bakeries I placed an order for a sheet cake and cupcakes for a Bridal shower this past Saturday (6/2/2012). We've had the croissants from Poilane in Paris, where the pastries are laid out like fine silk scarves in a frantically expensive boutique-- and the closest America has to offer, or at least Doylestown, is Crossroads. Outstanding. Their epi rolls are now a feature at our dinner parties: crusty, yeasty, flavorful-- they taste like rain and sun and the prairies. Have an olive roll with some good gruyere or cheddar and that's lunch. Doylestown wouldn't be as good without Crossroads. It's an institution that raises our quality of life. By far the best bread in the Philadelphia area. Baggettes, Italian and a host of daily specials. French rolls ar emade daily and they are a great complement to the Grumpy Monkey coffee served there. On Tuesday they have the "Old World" bread. Round or oval loaf, the outside is crunchy and the inside is what bread is like in the old school bake shoppes in Europe. I visit there daily, and I wonder why I can't lose weight. A must visit if you're in the Bucks County area. read more

If you're looking for an old fashioned European-style bakery, this should be your preferred place to shop. Their breads are some of the best I've ever had. Everything is made from scratch from high quality ingredients. I love their croissants -- the best I've had outside of France. Hey, it's all great! The only downside is that they run out in the afternoon. The bakers are in at 3 AM so everything is fresh. If you want to stop in later, give a call and they will put your order away, so you don't have to worry running out. This is the best bakery I gave been to, outside of Europe. Last year I gave it a mixed review because the employees were abrupt and rude but that has changed. I am doing an update. Crossroads' service has slipped - dramatically. My wife went to buy a birthday cake for an 80 year-old friend of ours and asked that they write, "Happy Birthday John" on the cake. They refused. They said they could give my wife a paper sticker that says that, but they wouldn't provide a service that ANYONE else will provide. A cake of the size we wanted is over $20, not exactly giving it away. At this price, they should clearly be doing more to earn your trust. This laziness is so typical, and that is why where ever you go anymore, service stinks. The attitudes of some of people who work there leave alot to be desired, too. Their food is good, no denying that. But how many times have you seen a new place open, do really well FOR A WHILE, and then start cutting corners? That's Crossroads. My suggestion to you if you want a cake done the right way go to Weinrich's Bakery in Willow Grove. Great pastries of all sorts, and no hassles about getting the cake the way YOU want it, not the way THEY want it. My husband and I won four $5 gift certificates to CrossRoads from our children's school at an Auction in November. We were very excited because our daughter's 6th birthday is in January and we thought we could use the money towards her birthday cake and that the gift certificates would definitely help in this economy when budgets are tight. I called CrossRoads this morning and placed my cake order which came to $45 and was told first that I would need to come into the store to make a deposit since the cake was more than $40. I then mentioned I had the gift certificates and was then told I could only use one of them. The woman (who later identified herself as the General Manager) stated that it is written on the back of the gift certificates. We had no idea because our gift certificates had been glued to a piece of cardboard as part of the way they were displayed during the Auction we attended. I explained this to the General Manager and also explained that we do not live close to the bakery (about 30 minutes away) and asked her to make an exception and she stated in a very condescending tone that they have people who come as far as Lancaster, PA to their bakery. I am very disappointed in this General Manager's attitude and as a result, would never recommend this bakery to anyone. Shame on you CrossRoads Bake Shop! I will be giving my business to Butter Crumbs Bake Shop in Chalfont and would recommend everyone to do the same. read more
