The hubs & I came here to see The Movement on a Friday night. The venue was easy to find, but I didn't know what to expect as we waited at the door. They let us in, and I was pretty pleased with what I saw. They have two fully stocked bars, one inside and one outside, and plenty of standing room for patrons. I was really diggin' the decorations for the outside bar. it's decorated in cheesy lights and little toys from back in the day (I think I even saw a ninja turtle). The drink prices are reasonable and they had all sorts of specials going on. I pretty much stuck with the wells but the bartenders were great. The sound quality of the concert was decent, but not as good as it could be. That being said, we all had one hell of a time. You can thank the bartenders for that. read more

You come here to see artists you adore in an intimate venue. If I were to revue the service, it'd be a ten, if it were the digs, it'd be a ten. Went to see jukebox the ghost at this fine concert establishment. I had an excellent time, the beers were $3 and the show was rockin. I enjoyed the outdoor patio and bar and even though it was cold, it was nice to escape the crowd and get some fresh air. The bartenders were quick and nice, & I would recommend this place for a show to any band. read more

This venue lands a lot of interesting shows and there is no barricade in front of the stage so you can get close and person with whoever is playing. The shows are always cheap and since I live just outside of Ybor the location can't be beat! Only gripe ever is sometimes getting served is a bit slow during bigger shows, having to do a gig to get a bartender's attention to get a beer gets to be annoying. read more

Went here last night for The Mountain Goats show. I have to be honest...I'm not the hugest fan of Ybor so I wasn't sure what to expect from Crowbar. Turns out it's a really cool venue. We arrived at just about 8 p.m. and saw a huge line out the door. We decided to get a drink at another bar and then come back. We went back a half hour later and the line had gone down to just a few people. Score! The space is pretty much just a big empty room with a stage to your right when you walk in, obviously they're mostly set up for concerts. Xmas lights are stringed all over the place and disguise what is probably a not so nice floor and walls. They have a nice outdoor patio area with a bar and tables and chairs. There are also two other bars inside. I had two rum and cokes while we were there and never once did we have to wait for a drink. The bartender we went up to, Kristen, was also very nice. She served with a smile and a friendly demeanor. Well drinks were also only $5, which I thought was pretty darn good. Their well rum is Sailor Jerry's as well, also not bad! The opening band, Nurses, didn't get started until about 9:15 p.m., which we were a bit peeved about. Not sure if it was the band or the venue's way of making people buy drinks. This is really an ideal spot for an intimate concert. The show was sold out, but I never once felt overcrowded. It was nice not having people on top of you. And it was easy to see the stage from pretty much every corner of the room. I was worried that it would be too smokey for this non-smoker, as I've heard that they allow smoking indoors. Maybe it was the crowd (didn't see many lighting up) but I had no problems with smoke. People seemed to be keeping their cigarette usage outdoors and there were also plenty of fans inside to keep the ventilation going. Overall, it was a great show and experience and I'd see another show here in a heartbeat! read more

Went to see a show here last night-MC Chris. It was actually well organized, staff was friendly, sound was good, and the crowd was surprisingly very courteous(which is a rarity these days at shows). Anytime someone needed to get by me they said excuse me, which is pretty polite from someone who grew up in Tampa. Most people these days who live here just don't seem to have decent manners. Anyway, the drinks were pretty damn strong. Not sure how much it cost because I'm a girl, so obviously my drink was automatically paid for (hehe) but damn...that shit got me loose. I could only have one! Granted, I'm not much of a drinker, but shit! I started to stumble over my own feet. If I had another one I would've been on the floor at some point in the night. Lol. If there's another show here, I would definitely pay a visit here again. All in all it was a pretty decent night. read more

I came here with my friend to see his friends band, No Coma, and I think really what makes or breaks this place is what bands play during the night. Cover charge was only $5. Everything is right up in front of you, it's like front row tickets, my first real time in a live concert up close kind of scene, and I liked it a lot! (after my ears adjusted to the decibel level) The lighting in the place was nice and it wasn't overly packed so it wasn't a big deal that the place wasn't too big. Another band that played, Mental Giant, seemed to have a big fan following and they were pretty awesome as well. I'll want to certainly come back here sometime and check out some other bands with some friends. read more

Saw the legendary Meat Puppets here last week - nice space for this type of show. Overall, a decent place to see a band. Intimate, with a stage where you can literally be right up in the band's face (OK, knees) if you want. Bartender was speedy and friendly, the mixed two drinks I had serviceable and not terribly over priced - 5 bucks for a decent plastic cup of vodka and cranberry - They have a nice outdoor space, and the whole joint would be improved if they restricted smoking to the outdoor patio. My ears are kinda old and tired of too loud music (old DJs don't die they just lose their hearing...) so its nice that one can stand off to the right near the entry door and see the show without getting blasted by a wall of sound. read more

Randomly walked in here on a Saturday night; saw a very pregnant woman perform and work the crowd like a boss. I'd see that again.

I cant even to begin to explain the unpleasant experience we had. The staff that we encountered here was rude and unprofessional. I have video of the bouncer physically pushing my female cousin out of the bar and several of us trying to stop him from hurting her or being too aggressive but he insisted on pushing her. She was pushed out because of the EGO of a staff member. We were standing in the way of the bar back and when they asked us to move, RUDELY, she made a comment. This angered the staff and caused them to be PHYSICAL with us when we would have NEVER caused a scene if they had just been nice and asked us to leave (even though it was UNCALLED FOR). Disgusting use of power. There is no need to be physical ESPECIALLY TOWARDS A LADY. I am disgusted with this business and pray they hire staff that won't physically assault a woman. read more

Let's start the night off with this: The owner was bartending and ended up spilling a beer on 2 girls next to me at the corner of the bar. He apologized, but failed to hand them a towel or napkin to clean themselves up with until they asked. Strike 1. Later, when my boyfriend and I went to pay our bill - confusion set in for the owner. I will say, it was busy & loud & I understand the owner probably wasn't hearing my boyfriend clearly when he gave him specific instructions to pay cash first & the rest on his card. The owner came back to my boyfriend and told him his card was declined. My boyfriend, trying to expedite the process, then found me and asked for my card so we wouldn't waste anymore time trying to tab out. The owner returned pissed - yelling at us about our declined card again, how "If you don't have the money then don't go out!" He slammed a card down in front of us on the bar THAT WASN'T EVER OURS! He also complained when we tried to pay with MY card. Pretty sure he charged someone else for OUR drinks that we were trying to pay for (sorry whoever you are, we owe you one). I asked him why he was yelling at us, he became irate. I told him to tab us out and that we would never be returning. He told me "Good! Then leave!" So we did and no, we will never ever be back to the rundown, second-rate Crowbar ever again. I will say, to the bar's credit - the other bartenders were excellent- attentive and very friendly. I hope they don't have to put up with their owner's temper when he doesn't understand how to use his own equipment. read more

Have only been once and it was on a whim to see an act I had never seen before (Justin Townes Earle). Bar service was good for a crowded show and the sound was absolutely IMMACULATE! It was wintery cold out so i didn't check out the outside bar, but am looking forward to catching more shows there. Parking was kind of a drag, but I think that is more of an Ybor City issue in general, and nothing to do with the venue. read more

In theory, the Crowbar should be a nice place to go see a show. They have brought really good bands and tickets are decently priced. However, and this is a big however, most of the time the crowds are too small and pretty apathetic. I am not a big fan of people pushing against each other, but some shows at the Crowbar are just way too boring (and not because of the band playing). I ordered a cider, I got looked at by the bartender like a privileged white girl on the wrong side of town. Luckily the other bartender knew they did carry two kinds. The outdoor area was neat. There was a pool table, and lots of space. Why have I not been here for a show before? I'm not quite sure, but it does seem like a good venue. I have seen some bands I like listed as playing there, just haven't made it in. Maybe I will someday and be able to review it higher. read more

It's small so it does get crowded sometimes, especially when they book anyone who's even sort of popular. I prefer smaller venue shows to the big amphitheater shows but this ones pushing it a bit. Not that that deters me from going to shows here. My biggest issue with this bar is the bartenders. Me and my girlfriend go to shows here fairly often and the bartenders are almost always rude. Last time we went my girlfriend was trying to get one of the guys attention, he was on his phone, when he didn't even bother looking up she got a drink from the other guy. The first bartender looks up holding up his hands like "wtf" and says "I was standing right here, why'd you ask someone else?". Uh, because we've been standing here 10 minutes waiting for you to bother getting a couple beers....We just said he looked busy. I like the shows they book most of the time but the bartenders kind of ruin the experience for me. read more

The crow bar is easy to find and has tons of parking, but there's a reason for that. While they have reasonable priced drinks and it's pretty clean, it's full of vaginas... and not the good kind. They have "metal shows," and the bands are all ok to awesome, but the venue itself is really lame. Last weekend a local band was on stage doing great, and they wanted a mosh pit. There were actually people complaining to the staff about how rowdy the pit was getting. Believe me, I've seen rowdier pits at Offspring concerts. Management actually came out and asked people to calm down. There was not even one drop of blood, no broken bones, or even a punch thrown! If you are say 18 and want to act cool, head on down, otherwise, find a place where the sausage fest actually has sausages. read more

Another hidden treasure in Ybor City. Off the beaten path of 7th Ave, this bar has pulled in a great variety of different genres of music. I have seen everything from funk, metal, ska, hip hop, jamband, you name it. Cheap door is always a plus. Good sound, and large stage. Bar can seem under staffed for really big shows, but the are 3 bars including a huge outside patio. On a pack house night the biggest drawback is it can get pretty smokey from the cigarettes that you can actually see it pouring out of the doors. But it's a bar. read more

Saw Mobb Deep here and had a really really fun time. They just don't make rap music today like they used to. Shook Ones, part 2 and Quiet Storm are pure awesome. After this show, I went on a 90s hip hop binge for weeks. The layout inside works decently for moving around as it was never too difficult to get back to the bar and it was a crowded Friday show. It is a rather small venue, but I will surely come back for more shows. The sound was good and the artist is practically part of the crowd, but still high enough on stage for everyone to get a good view. read more

This venue brings in lots of smaller acts and has plenty of room for your different concert types---your wall huggers, your dudes hitting on disinterested (or overly interested) girls, your thrashers, and your dude who is always way more excited to be at the show than anyone else (note, if you were at any shows I was at that dude was mine, so no comments about him, m'kay?). There's a bar inside the main concert area so you don't have to stray too far from the spot where you glued your shoes to the floor and there's an outdoor patio area where you can go to smoke or just get away if you don't like the band that's currently on. Probably the only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I tend to like the bands that are booked at other venues a bit more than ones who play here. Definitely worth a trip if you're a music fan and live in the Tampa Bay area. read more

This bar has everything a person could want. Drinks, moderately clean restrooms, interesting folk, live shows. It's a very cool place. The venue is smaller, but it just makes it seem intimate! This is a good venue with good artists. I am sure if you go here 95% of the time it will be fun. My only complaint is with the bar tenders. My date and I asked for waters which were supplied. Then we asked for a drink and the bar tender refused. We finished our waters and then asked for drinks again. He refused and told us we had to wait 30 minutes. That was all fine. But I assumed he thought we were too drunk when really we were just thirsty. So I tried to explain that. He responded by calling the bouncers and having is thrown out. I am frustrated that I paid for tickets to a concert and did not get to enjoy it with all of my friends because of a small miscommunication. I did get a chance to talk to Tom, one of the bouncers who threw us out. He was reasonable and helpful. But my money for tickets was wasted just the same. All in all a fun place. Just be very careful with the bar tenders. read more

I've been to Crowbar over a dozen times now for concerts. The sound isn't phenomenal but it's never, ever been bad. Easily the most consistent in the bay area. It isn't very good-looking either but who cares? It's a bar. The people working there are always reasonable too. The only major problem I have with the place is that they put many bands on very late in what's probably an attempt to sell drinks -- and when I say late, I mean 12-12:30 not being that unusual for headliners. Also, it seems like the place is filled way past capacity for some of the higher-profile shows. Besides that, consistently good venue. Intimate. read more

I've seen Deerhoof play here, with a spinning triangle of light behind them. I saw someone I just knew would eventually be my friend, pumping and convulsing on the dance floor in cowboy boots until he slipped and fell right on his ass, got up and resumed. Enough said, it's on the map. Big giant mugs of beer and an outdoor patio that stretches all the way to the sidewalk where you hit a gate to Ybor. Ybor is a wonderful shit show, everyone clamoring for attention and elation, ready to fight, ready to fuck. There was free parking at the time, and you had to work hard to get pulled over for anything. It may not be that way anymore, things fade. My first visit to Ybor, a knife fight broke out in the middle of a cobbled street, dead serious. A fat boy and another, circling each other with knives out. I was hooked. Puke at the foot of every bench, but on weeknights it's quite peaceful. And the Crowbar is across from the movie theatre where you can get sushi and other fine things.
