BEWARE OF OVER BILLING…read more On December 4, 2024, schedule an appointment with dentist Vaidehi Trivedi to correct my bite. At the beginning of my appointment, I was directed to take x-trays. I admittedly denied the service and I told her dental assistance several times my insurance would not cover x-trays, and I just needed her to adjust my bite. The office Manager/billing expert stood behind and said in the presence of my husband and dental assistance I would not be charged for x-rays . I then allowed the dental assistant to put those small wing shaped objects in my mouth and a few bite-wing x-rays were taken. My husband and I then proceeded to the dental chair where Vaidehi adjusted my bit. She also recommended a night guard. The office manager/billing expert came in afterwards to discuss the price of the guard. I declined to purchase the 275.00-night guard. On December 6, 2024, I reached out to Aetna - Dental to go over my remaining benefits and I noticed Vaidehi charged me 799.00 that included: 3D Con Bean CT, Panoramic , Bite wings x-rays, and an exam. I was not surprised about the exam but I was appalled that I billed for x-trays that did not take place. I filed a complaint with Aetna - Dental , my dental insurance company. I am now requesting the correction claim be file with my insurance company and my account be credited back for all the x-rays. Mostly because a couple of them did not happen and for the bite-wings x-rays because I was there would be no charge and my husband and the dental assistant was present when I was told this by the billing expert. I am now seeking an corrected invoice for services rendered. On December 9, 2024 at 7:15 am I spoke to Jennifer the billing agent. She just happen to call to cancel my husbands appointment. I addressed my concern of her billing me for x-rays that did not take place. Again she said, we always bill the insurance but we don't expect them to pay and we don't bill you for xrays. I told her so you just bill and try max out my insurance without charging me personally. That is alarming. She said yes bet it is,. I told her she charged me for a panosonic xray and they only pay for those once a year. She corrected and said its every 36 months the insurance will pay out. Again she said she did not see in the system where they paid,. I call Aetna Dental PPO on 3-ways and we once we got Jennifer on the phone she said she was in the process of refunding the funds my insurance paid for xrays due to services not rendered. Summary, this Dental office has over charging your insurance built into their business practices and if their customers are not checking the charges to their insurance, they are taking advantage of unsuspecting customers.

However, I was disappointed that a dental assistant--not a hygienist--was the one flossing and polishing my teeth. The work felt unprofessional, like someone inexperienced was practicing on me. On top of that, the dentist came across as rude after asking a few questions, which made the experience uncomfortable. I expected a higher level of care and professionalism from a dental office.

As I leave a summation here of what our experience was at KC Dental Works, know that I share our…read morestory in hopes of protecting & sparing other families from the experience we went through. Also be aware that our case is not unique- we know other families treated by Dr. John Humphrey with very similar experiences: I have taken my kids to Dr. Humphrey for the entirety of their childhood lives (4 & 5yo). I followed the directions given by him- toothpaste recommendations, floss and even ozone therapies for my older child. He filled several cavities in my older child's mouth over the course of her 4th and 5th years (even re-did some because they fell out). In October of 2022, we went in for a routine cleaning and were told my oldest child (5yo) had two new cavities (we are on fillings number 6 & 7 at this point) and that he would see us back in 5 months (!) to fill them. Two weeks later, part of one of her teeth fell completely off. I texted the office immediately that evening and got a response in the morning from the front desk explaining that he didn't have time to see us for another 5 months, so we would have to go elsewhere. So, mortified that our "trusted" dentist wouldn't see my 5yo daughter with an urgent dental issue, I reached out to numerous pediatric dentists in the area and made appointments over the next several days. We then found out that Dr. Humphrey had missed NINE cavities in my child's mouth- nine. She was sitting there with 11 decaying teeth in her mouth and he was willing to have her wait 5 months before filling the two that he had found. All of the pediatric dentists that we consulted told me that they could see the cavities with the naked eye and only needed Xray's to view the extent of decay. Subsequent to Dr. Humphrey's expansive negligence, my 5yo daughter needed urgent oral surgery, requiring general anesthesia, 8 crowns and several fillings, amounting to $7,000+ worth of work. In addition, my younger child also had the beginnings of 4 cavities which were promptly and appropriately taken care of at our new dentist's office- 4 cavities that Dr. Humphrey did not find just two months prior. Once a child has a small amount of decay in their mouth it spreads like wildfire so you need an dentist who is thorough, discerning and proactive. Dr. John Humphrey is absent of any of these traits. Please take our traumatic experience and use it to guide you- don't leave your child's (or your own) mouth in the hands of KC Dental Works. I too thought I was doing the best thing, looking for a holistic dentist in Kansas City. But in doing so and trusting Dr. Humphrey, more damage has been caused than I could have ever imagined.

Not only is their social media on point, but it has been the most pleasant experience I have ever had at the dentist. Their office is so open and modern and clean. The entire staff is very welcoming and they offered me water or coffee to drink while I was waiting. Dr. Humphrey is super friendly and makes you feel very comfortable. He walked me through what work he would be doing and answered all of my questions. I also really appreciate that he takes a holistic/modern combo approach to his practice. He was super supportive of me removing my silver fillings, which some dentists may steer you away from. KC Dental Works also has some of the best technology in the city to safely remove amalgam fillings, from what I've been informed. They use several different techniques to ensure that no mercury enters your body from extraction, which is obviously appreciated! I live downtown but it is worth the drive to Lenexa to see this dentist!
