Fred was incredibly helpful and attentive to my needs, ensuring I got exactly what I was looking for. Dominic, the delivery driver, was friendly and efficient, making the whole process seamless. They even fit my delivery in on the same day, which was a huge plus since I wanted to work on my garden over the weekend. The soil itself smelled rich and high-quality, was free of random debris, and only had one fist-sized rock. Impressive for my limited knowledge of bulk soil! They took my entire order and scheduled it THEN informed me they can only take cash or a check. I went and got cash then drove over there and tried to pay during normal business hours, they were gate closed padlocked nobody in sight. I order 19 yards of concrete for the driveway 6 sacks and it was deliver at 10 am and after finishing the concrete start cracking the same day. I spoke to ZeeJay and he told me that it's not there problem. I show him the picture of all the crack and he tells me that we didn't use the right re-bar. I have purchased 18 yards for my backyard from Bayshore materials and we used the same re-bar and it did not crack. read more

Luckily someone by the name Zee-Jay had answered the phone. He gracefully said don't worry ill take care of you. I felt bad because someone had come in while he was helping me and he took care of him too. He could have easily said nope we close at 3. I think most would have. On April 15, 2019 we visited Crown Hill Materials and we're assisted by Fritz with our requests. Came in looking for bark and sand and was able to find the perfect items. Delivery was on the same day which was amazing because we are working on a short schedule to get the backyard done very soon. We really appreciated the personalized services and attentiveness to our needs and questions. They have a great selection and top notch customer service. I have ordered from these guys twice now: first for mulch, and several months later for rocks. Both times the person at the desk taking my order was more than happy to help me figure out how much I needed (given the area I needed to cover) and what it would cost. They priced out many different options to help me decide. This alone makes me want to return because as a newbie trying to DIY her own landscaping I could really use the guidance. You would never get help like that at Lowe's or Home Depot. Both times my order was delivered in just a few days, on time, by a friendly driver who was happy to unload it where I asked. (It was also the highlight of my toddler's life to see the giant yellow truck dumping mulch into our driveway!) The only two issues I have are: first, the mulch I ordered was generally good quality, but I found a fair amount of trash in it including beer bottle labels, candy bar wrappers, and even some broken glass. Not great. Second, I ended up with way more mulch than I needed. This may be due to my own ignorance about how much I needed to order, my spreading it thinner than anticipated, or the guy who calculated the amount to order being a little too generous. In the end I was able to use it all in other projects so that wasn't a huge deal. It's also worth mentioning that their delivery fees can add up quickly (for example, $145 to have $500 of rocks delivered). But that may be typical for this market - I don't know. If you're thinking about doing a landscaping project I highly encourage you to go look around their rock yard in Vallejo. The rocks are beautiful and there is tons of variety to get your creative juices flowing. read more

I ordered 3 deliveries in 2015 of rock and mulch when I redid my front yard. What I wanted was simple and service was friendly and satisfactory. This year, what I wanted required more information about the source of the materials they're selling. The person I spoke to was friendly, and promised to follow-up with me the next day. Didn't heard back. So after a few days, when I called to follow-up, after I said who I was and what I was still waiting on, same person told me "I have a customer in front of me. Sorry, I have to go". Okay, real customer service would have been: "I have a customer in front of me. Can I call you back". If I had told them that I was an existing customer who had already spent a $1K with them, perhaps the basic courtesy of an honest response would have been provided "Sorry, I don't care enough to provide the information you need". UPDATE: I found an awesome place to buy from, and they're very forthcoming with the information. They do retail and wholesale, and answer questions from consumers or their resellers (on behalf of consumers) regularly. read more

I've been buying from Crown Hill for a few years now - fixing up our old place with a big yard - and have always had good experiences. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, selection is great and there's tons more that can be special ordered without hassle. There are plenty of nice displays of various materials that really help give one an idea of what things will look like. (Plenty of literature & catalogs available too.) From stone of all types, varieties and sizes to soil amendments and ground coverings this place has so much more than you will find at any big box store (at prices that are fair & competitive) that you'd be doing yourself a disservice not to check it out. Bulk material delivery charges are nominal but it pays to have a pickup truck for smaller orders - that's just the reality and CHM can't be knocked for that. It can be busy at times so a little patience can be handy. When it's your turn you can ask all the questions you want and I've never felt brushed off. I'd recommend CHM as your first stop for landscaping and hardscaping supplies any day and have done so a number of times since I started shopping here. read more

Excellent customer service! I needed 10 cubic yards of topsoil and made the mistake of arranging a delivery from CCL Organics, Benicia. I called CCL weeks in advance and confirmed once again the day before the job but on the day the delivery was scheduled they were unable to make the delivery. STAY AWAY from CCL. So I panicked and called Crown Hill. Talked to this very nice guy on the phone, within five minutes he confirmed the availability of the materials and made the delivery to my place in LESS THAN ONE HOUR.
