He has called us on occasion when interest rates dropped and suggested to refinance. He saved us a lot of money! Jeff is very personable and easy to get hold of. Some unsolicited advice if you're considering buying a house anytime, EVER ... Keep ALL of your tax returns, W-2s, interest statements, anything financially related, for at least ten years. I thought this was in case of audit. No, if you apply for a mortgage you basically need to hand your whole life over to them, especially if anything is even slightly out of the ordinary. Crown Mortgage has been very helpful and patient with me when I had almost, but not quite, everything in order. No, you really do need the 1040s AND the W2s AND the 1099s and ... everything. And if you've lost any of it, and you need it in a hurry, you will spend quite a lot of time on the phone with the IRS. (Also, you will feel like a total moron the following week when you find those very "missing" documents in an obvious but different spot from the rest of them...) I ask a lot of questions. I like to make sure I know darn near everything and that I fully understand what I'm getting into -- Jeff McGrath has been very patient and helpful, totally candid and straight-talking about our options, the rules and regulations, etc. He called me promptly to update me on every little thing and even told me I did a "great job" after one headache-inducing day. (I will say though that I've also talked to a few other people at Crown along the way, and while they all answer my questions, I do occasionally get this feeling like I'm wasting their time. Come on. This is brand-new to us. Let me ask all the questions I want.) I really appreciate that they are local, don't sell your loan and have been around a long time. I feel a lot more comfortable knowing Crown has our mortgage instead of some giant, faceless bank where you never know what will happen... I was disappointed when I called. Was told I couldn't get payout info over the phone that I had to send a letter and they have to send the info back to me by mail? I'm in the middle of getting my taxies lowered but if I don't get it done by Dec 1st that can't lower my payments for next year so I would still have to pay a higher escrow even if the money won't be used. They are lucky they get 1 star due to default. They won't accept our offer on a house because they want us to get pre approved through them. Chase Bank isn't good enough? You want us to get pre approved through you before you will counter? Why? So you know how much we are worth? Sounds like a bunch of crooks to me. First off, why would someone who is trying to buy a house want another inquiry on their credit? You being in the mortgage field should know that. Second, they don't offer the Union Plus loan. So way to go Crown! We really wanted to buy that house with all the crap wrong with it. Its been on the market for almost a year with no bits. Jeff Coole has been fantastic to work with. Last year we contacted him when going through a less than smooth mortgage process with our builder's mortgage company. Rather than try to steal the business he advised that it was in our best interest to stick with the current lender because of the incentives we'd have to pay back. A year later we refinanced with him and it was an absolutely pain free process at a great rate for a huge savings. crown mortgage helps ordinary people buy houses. they use private capital, your loan will never be sold to anyone. they perform due diligence. you're not going to get some fly-by-night adjustable rate balloon rider high risk unsecured loan here. they will sift through your everything, and let you know what you need to meet their lending standards. it was a relief to find a company like this after dealing with all the hocus pocus, chicanery, and predatory lending practices i encountered at standard lenders (AHEM CHASE). how can a bank pre-approve you for a loan, when they've never seen proof of income? why do all these banks make loan decisions based strictly on your social security number? why does everyone want to loan me 500 thou when i just want 150? because they're all a bunch of shoddy, unethical shysters. go see the professionals, at Crown. read more

Update circa 2012. Wouldn't you know interest rates have dropped dramatically over the past couple years and the fine folks at Crown mortgage do not forget that either. Jeff Coole, the guy who handled my loan previously, called me in January letting me know of an awesome deal that was in the works. He knew I would say yes but he also just needed my permission to start the paperwork. The interest rates had dropped 2 points for me and there was a negative one point for closing credit , etc...... so it was literally a no-brainer. I mean, a zombie would have signed up for this. BUT, being the professionals that they are Crown Mortgage did not just forge my signature. They gave me the option of either being smart or being stupid. I took the red pill and hoped all would be ok. Needless to say, I am still alive and kicking with an excellent interest rate. Do other companies offer more "bells and whistles"? Sure, they probably do. But you aren't going to get the personal care and attention that you would get at Crown Mortgage Company. These are simply real people that try to work for you, even after you have signed any paperwork. Honestly, Would a big bank have called me back letting me know about a lower interest rate? I can't say for certain, but I doubt it. When I looked at a couple big banks for my first initial loan they seemed to not seem as concerned about my business. Hence, the reason I chose Crown Mortgage in the first place. Do not call these guys if you have bad credit, a hustle scheme, or looking into predatory lending. This is a top notch Mortgage company. And the good thing for me is they are local. I dropped off my paperwork to them on a Friday, and Monday I was approved. Not pre-approved, but approved. They can have you closing on a home in 10 days. If you've ever delt with the big banks, you can really appreciate these folks. They will keep you informed every step of the way. Great company. I bought a house with them in 2006. Service is great. They will never sell your loan, I certainly liked that. At the closing my real estate lawyer told me their fees(closing costs) are by far the lowest he had ever seen. I have him on retainer through a legal fund through my union, he wasn't getting a dime from me and he knew it, so he wasn't just trying to make me feel good. Dissapointed with the service of this company, they tell you that in order to see if you qualify for a mortgage you have to pay a non-refundable $300 fee that will be used for the appraisal (should have walked out right then and there), well long story short my wife and I had some unfortunate financial downturn and we would longer be in position to purchase a new home. We requested a refund and our request was declined. We never had an appraisal done! I did sign the paperwork stating non-refundable but something feels shady about this business practice when they claim the $300 is for the appraisal and it's not used the money should be returned. Or they should be UPFRONT and HONEST and say that the $300 fee is for their time to process your paperwork. It's shady and you should not do business with them for that reason alone. read more

We just bought our house thanks to Crown Mortgage Bank! My husbands middle score was not sufficient enough for Chase, Wells Fargo, Citi, etc. We heard about Crown Mortgage through our Realtor and thought lets just give it a shot. It was the best decision! We got approved found the house of our dreams and closed on the house last week. Closing went pretty smooth, although Stephanie the loan analyst was not so great. We specifically asked to close at the end of the month and my lawyer, Realtor, myself were all trying to get a hold of her to schedule the end of the month closing. She didn't respond for almost a week, everyone was frustrated my attorney sent her an email letting her know how unprofessional she was! Hence the Four star rating. At the end of the week after all the commotion Stephanie made it happen and we closed at the end of the month after all the non responsive emails and calls. Mike Allan the CEO of the company came down to congratulate us and told us were not just a "number" to them were helping the out the way they helped us out. They work through referrals and I recommend anyone with a credit issue like my husband to this mortgage company. Where there is a will there is a way, and Crown Mortgage found the way! read more

Terrible company and will take your money. I was recommended this company by my realtor and I paid a few hundred dollars up front for the appraisal and some other fees. Due to the fact they approved me for a FHA and not a conventional loan, they wouldn't refund my money even though there was never an appraisal done! I even spoke with the president of the company. Horrible! If you want to get ripped out of almost $500, go here. Otherwise, shop somewhere else! read more

Unbelievable, O SURE they are super helpful when they want your loan! Heaven forbid you are a few days late beyond the grace period. Considering filing a class action lawsuit against them for their terrible unfair treatment!! The month in question sent them the mortgage payment few days beyond the grace period, then the very next month a little late again however paid in full. Well get this, I received a call that they chose to send the last month payment back because it was late and did not include the late fee. Now the current month they say they will not be accepting it either. So in essence, they made me look as though I refused to pay those 2 months. See the trend? Crown Mortgage only physically sent my 1 of my checks back to me. NOW they sent a summons for foreclosure for 3 months non payment, attorney fees, court fees, late fees and not giving them my first born!!! By the way, the checks were NOT returned for non sufficient funds, they just decided THEY didn't want to accept the checks without the late fees added. WOW, what kind of service is that? NEVER EVER will I deal with a small name co. like this ever again!! Thank God I now own other property with reputable mortgage lenders. BEWARE!! read more

I was totally unimpressed with these guys. We filled out a complete loan application online. Someone called me around 4pm and asked to set up a phone appointment with a broker for 5pm. I said yes because I had another phone appointment with my school at 4:40. Then the broker called at 4:15 and left a message saying he'd call back at 5. Then called again at 4:45. Very unprofessional and made me feel like he was some sort of telemarketer, not the professional broker I expected. He didn't even seem to have our loan application in front of him and wasn't aware of the details. Don't waste people's time putting that stuff online if you aren't even going to look it over! And don't make appointment times if you are just going to keep calling before then. All they did was frustrate us and make me nervous they have all our personal info. We are already pre-approved by Bank of America but a friend told us they really liked Crown. I think we'll stick with the professionals and not waste our time with games. read more
