If you're looking for a small plate, you'll find it here. You will pay a lot of money for the small plate. You will also be looking for salt, pepper, or any other seasoning. The food was overall, very bland. It was expertly prepared, fresh, and beautiful. But the taste was quite boring. Be prepared to eat a second dinner when you get home. Also be prepared to sit at the bar- this place is very tiny. The vibe is nice. Low ceiling, dimly lit, comfortable cozy. The server/ bartender (I'm pretty sure she was running the whole place) Nikki, was phenomenal. So friendly, good drinks. We started with the oysters which were good. The mignonette sauce was a little different, it had lemon zest in it. It was very good! But the give you laughable amount. Like, a splash. Then we had the fig and prosciutto toast. This was the highlight for us. Tasty all the way around, 4 generous servings on the plate. Jam was so good and the prosciutto was warmed up ever so slightly. I had the hangar steak with some unseasoned boiled carrots. The steak was tender and high quality, but I couldn't taste a bit of seasoning. Also served with a tiny crispy potato pancake. Husband had the halibut special. This had some wasabi crust and if you got a bite of the wasabi it was good. The bites that weren't crusted were boring fish. Again, very fresh and prepared well. Black rice and asparagus also boring. I got a hint of lemon on one bite I tried. We also had the Brussels sprouts, which were charred along with the few pork belly pieces. Husband finished with a whiskey crème brûlée which he enjoyed. He did not, however, enjoy his Dark and Stormy. He said it was all booze and no beer or mix. Sadly, we won't be back. read more

My husband and I dined here with another couple not that long ago. The service we received was excellent! The server and hostess were very warm and informative. We all had delicious cocktails! The atmosphere is super cozy decked out with European charm! I can't stress enough the loveliness of this space! Amy was there instead of Nikki so I couldn't ask her to make her version of the Bitter Kiss, but I had almost an exact reproduction of my birthday meal, except with the soup of the day and an Emma off their cocktail menu which was scrumptious. In my earlier review, I guess I forgot that the Buffala mozzarella and arugula came with peaches *and* prosciutto. Amy was there and there also seemed to be an expanded cast of employees there, with Amy and a hunky bartender. A meal at the Reserve is always a performance, with delicious food, props, entertainment, tech theater in the form of a playlist and stage set. Amy was too eager to pick up my plate. Normally something I complain about in lesser restaurants I guess most people don't enjoy polishing off every bite of deliciousness that is my way. I had really high hopes heading into this dining experience. The menu had me intrigued and the ambiance is quite cute and inviting. Unfortunately, the food just didn't live up to expectations. The food lacked flavor and even though it is tapas style, the portions are quite small for the price point. However, the service and cocktails were much more promising. Well "The Reserve" certainly was not what I expected. We made reservations 3 weeks in advance. I thought maybe that was necessary because it was relatively new, hopefully really good, likely because of its excellent location in the center of Chagrin Falls. Turns out all that is true. But the biggest reason for the extended advanced reservation is because it is SO small! When we entered I was amazed to see a long bar to my left, a table in each of the two front windows, and 3 booths along the other wall. That was it. 5 tables and a bar... interesting. I wondered how this was going to work. A marvelous women, with a big smile, greeted us immediately and after confirming our reservation, seated us promptly. She introduced herself as Nikki, quickly took drink orders and was off like a shot to return just as quickly with our orders. After a comfortable period of time she returned to take our orders... I've always been impressed by wait staff that can perform their job strictly by memory while at the same time holding a conversation. A marvelous talent I do not possess. The menu is clearly tapas (which I love) and a bit limited, but sufficient for assembling an interesting meal. I loved my "Fig & prosciutto toast". The flavors were wonderful. That was followed up by a fantastic "Heirloom tomato salad". Hard to believe that much flavor could be in a tomato salad. Finally, my entree was a "Beer braised pork belly"... just excellent. After dinner coffee and "Chocolate Pot de Creme" was the perfect finish. By the way, after just a bit of conversation we found out Nikki is the owner of the establishment. She is friendly, engaging, and just plain wonderful. If nothing else you need to visit just to meet her. I highly recommend "The Reserve". It is an excellent experience. read more

Don't sleep on this place! Came here with hubby for a date night. Very small space. Half is bar seating. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the cocktails and watching the bartender/server make cocktails. A unique experience. The many was varied and unique. Small plate style with moderate amount of options. Everything we ate was enjoyable. I thought the hot dog was pretty fun. This is our go to date night spot when visiting family in the area. The decor and atmosphere is so cozy with a full service, well stocked bar. We shared the smash potatoes, Brussels sprouts, honey sriracha tofu, and the curry, sub tofu. Really appreciated that they were able to make vegetarian accommodations. All the food was absolutely delicious, we regularly talk about the honey sriracha tofu. The glass noodles are amazing. The Brussels sprouts were very well cooked and delicious - nice and crispy. I do wish the chili oil was a little more prominent. The flavor of the curry was also amazing. The aioli served with the potatoes made the potatoes unique and was really good. Can't forget the bourbon creme brûlée. I'm a huge crème brûlée fan and especially love when restaurants add their unique spin to it like The Reserve does with the bourbon flavor. It was very light and fluffy, and I will say I do prefer a thicker texture typically but the flavor made up for it. Servers are always so nice as well. It's going to be a pass for me. Was so excited to come here b/c I never got to try Umami from before but it was pretty lackluster. This entire restaurant could have fit inside my kitchen from when I lived in Chagrin Falls. Ceilings were low, lights were low and if you weren't here on a date, get ready to be extremely intimate with your coworkers or family, haha! There are 2 very unconventionally cute spaces to sit on either side of the entrance. Since I was on a date, it was fine and pleasant but it forces you to be touching knees and hands with your companion, lol. Okay, the food. Taste was bland, cold and the portions were LAUGHABLE. I've been to other small plate restaurants like Rood and Salt but wow, this one needs to be recategorized as TINY plate restaurant. The crab meat I got was fresh and delicious but the accompanying soba noodles were pitifully small. They included 6 strands of noodles and did not season it except with lemon juice. I was expecting a rich sesame oil coating or simple garlic salt/herb combo but nope. So bland. So small. So hungry! My date's steak dish had a few more elements but for the high prices, this place really didn't live up to my expectations. Our appetizer was enough for a newborn with a marble-sized stomach. The food is delicious and the service fantastic. There's a large parking lot behind the restaurant with free parking. We were faithful fans of umami and have been to the Reserve 3 times since the change over. We really enjoy it. The reconfiguration of the space creates an openness. Parties of 2 should be prepared for a more communal dining experience at the bar. Sitting at the bar also means that you see all the wonderful craft cocktails being assembled. There are still well curated beer and wine lists but the cocktails are special. And there are 4 mock tail options, as well. The new menu is small plates only. New favorites include the sashimi (so undeniably fresh) and the hanger steak plate. The Shiraz salmon "caviar" pearls in the crab and caviar plate are also impressive. This was my wife's birthday and initially was just going to be the two of us , but then my kids came home for thanksgiving break unexpectedly early. The Reserve is very small and intimate , yet the owner was so very accommodating to adjust our reservations to fit our 3 kids to now a party of 5 !! The cocktail menu was so diverse , great bourbon selection. The food is absolutely fantastic. We ordered several appetizers, some of the best oysters in Ohio ever , lobster Mac n cheese , curry mussels , and one of the best Caesar salads we have ever had, just fantastic tender salad and dressing with two lovely sardines. We each ordered our own small plate , each of us were delighted , a Cajun snapper with red beans and rice , absolutely amazing scallops and a salmon dish I cannot recommend highly enough , the staff are so friendly and accommodating, the bar and food is off the charts. The restaurant focuses on small plates, we were starving and got four "starters," two "mains" and two deserts which was about the perfect amount of food. Oysters, steak tartar, the bison special, and tuna were all very good, would order again without any hesitation. Goat cheese dumplings and scallops were phenomenal. Both deserts were really well executed too. And the plating for everything was gorgeous. It isn't cheap but definitely a good value for the quality of what you get. Chagrin Falls eclectic restaurant, formerly Umami, has Asian inspired small plates. The restaurant has a few booths and a bar for dinner seatings. Reservations are necessary, even at the bar, and for the upcoming holidays, weekends are already filled. If you patronized Umami's you will recognize the ladies serving, and the chefs in the small kitchen. The menu is different. We ordered a bunch of small plates to share. Special soup on the board was squash coconut. The cup size we received was delicious. We tried the goat cheese dumplings, really gnocchis. We agreed they didn't have any flavor. The duck confit nachos were very good and nice with the Spanish red wine. The Wagyu hotdog had full meat flavor in a nice bun. The charcuterie board was perfect as a later share to fill in the gaps. Entrees included the curry chicken. The portion wasn't overly large, but we'd had plenty to eat, so it was perfect size. The restaurant is small. The service was friendly and good. I have now been to The Reserve twice, and plan to go as often as I can for the foreseeable future. The space is very small (get a reservation) yet you never feel cramped or uncomfortable. They have obviously worked hard to make it feel cozy and yet also exclusive, like you found somewhere special that other folks don't know about yet. The window seat (on your right as you come in) is a great spot for a date and very charming, allowing you to watch Chagrin Falls quietly bustle around you. The service is pleasant and professional, and they are obviously proud of their restaurant and willing to help you enjoy the experience. We have taken their suggestions and been happy with them on both trips (make sure you give the specials a hard look). The food is quite good, and made more so by the fact they they are making so many different and unusual meals in such a small kitchen. We have now had maybe 12 of the items and haven't had something yet that wasn't worth having a conversation about. They also have a very good cocktail menu, with an excellent Manhattan and great mock-tail options for my pregnant wife. Overall I think that they have done an impressive job designing food and space to work so well together. The food is not just good, it feels somehow appropriate for the atmosphere. It's playful and eccentric in its way, but takes itself seriously and puts a great product in front of you. The only change I could imagine suggesting would be a tasting menu. Eat before you go if you're hungry! Vibe and atmosphere is awesome, but I was shocked at the very tiny amount of food you receive. Peaches appetizer was really good. But I ordered the scallops for $21 and got 3 scallops for dinner. That's it. I get some people love that kind of stuff... it's just not for me. Way too pricy for me and portions are very small.
