We rented an RV from Cruise America and it was poorly serviced, not safe and had major issues. The water tank had a big hole in it (and did not hold water) and we were not able to use our toilet, shower or sink during our whole trip. We didn't find out about this until we got it home and started filing it up with water for our trip. This is something the rental place should check before they rent a vehicle. They wanted us to make a 80 mile trip to get it fixed on our dime!!! DO NOT USE CRUISE AMERICA. IF THERE IS ANY ISSUE WITH THE RENTAL THEY WILL NOT COMPENSATE!! Never using them again! After having an overall very dismal experience renting from Cruise America, we made it across the country from Rhode Island to California and we were itching to return our unit. I called ahead of time and asked them if I could return the RV early because it had so many problems and we just wanted it out of our hair as soon as possible. The lady I spoke with was friendly and understanding and said that I could return it literally any day I wanted and so I took her up on that offer. We were supposed to return the RV on a Monday and we decided to return it on the Thursday prior. We arrived early in the morning and pulled our 30-ft rig into the parking lot and waited to speak with someone by the counter. The lady that I spoke with over the phone was the lady that we did business with at the counter so she was aware of our situation ahead of time. I went through all the specifics of the issues we had with our RV rental and my husband expanded on some of the specifics of the nitty gritty and overall I think we painted a thorough picture of the issues we went through with this rental. After doing a walk through of the unit and ensuring that we hadn't done any damage to it she walked me back into the office and we spoke about what might be the next steps. After talking with her coworker, she offered me some financial refund on the days that we missed of our trip because we were waiting for Cruise America to set up someone to fix the broken parts which of course they never ended up doing. She told me that she was going to be refunding me almost $700 which was great but I haven't seen anything come to my account yet so that is still up in the air. Additionally, we haven't been refunded our deposit so I'm still waiting to see how all that shakes out. The location is easy to find, right off of Santa Rosa avenue, and they have a lot of different kinds of rentals other than just cruise America rentals on the property. While I was there I also overheard a gentleman said that he uses their RV area to store his personally owned RV and he comes and visits it frequently to make sure it's still in good shape. I don't think I would ever rent from Cruise America again however I do think I would probably return to this location to rent a U-Haul if it was something I needed to do in the future. read more

The absolute worst! I would not recommend this to anyone ever! We rented this for our family camping trip and it was a hunk of junk. And now I can't even get my money back but we were too far out for them to come and help us. We have to drive home on bald tires exposed wires, the drive line sounded like it was coming through the floor and there was no power whatsoever! Like barely going up hills. I was so concerned that I put a bike helmet on my special needs daughter because had she gotten hit in the head if we wrecked due to any of these circumstances it would've killed her. I've tried now for months to get my money back and end this and still only get partial response! Please know these are very unsafe and under maintenance vehicles not safe for Families anyone at that matter. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!! Consider yourself warned. They rented us an EXTREMELY dangerous RV, and clearly do not take safety precautions or checks prior to letting families ride in their vehicles. My in-laws rented a Cruise America RV from the Santa Rosa location for our road trip - and WHAT A NIGHTMARE. We received it the day before we left for a 7+ day road trip. A few min down the road, my father in law noticed it was pulling to the right, he thought maybe it was winds, so he didn't think much about it. When he got home, he realized there was no wind, so decided to drive it around a bit. It was pulling hard to the right. He gave them a call, and their only response was "You have to call the 1-800 customer service number..." Customer service was a joke, and only really sent automated message responses. We were under a time crunch, and had to leave the next day at 5am. We assumed because they'd rented it out, perhaps it wasn't as bad as we thought. The next day we hit the 5, and the pulling became worse and worse. After 24hrs of trying to get in touch with someone, they finally sent us a mechanic cruise America is contracted with. We arrived at 4pm, and the owner hopped in to drive it around. He'd barely made it out of his lot before saying how dangerous this RV was. He was shocked that our origination place (Santa Rosa) had even let it leave the lot. He wasn't even comfortable driving it back to his own lot - which was less then a mile away, and had one of his tow trucks come back to tow it back. Upon further inspection, 3 of the tires were missing MULTIPLE lug nuts. Wow. Just wow to the lot in Santa Rosa. They knew it was my in-laws driving it, and that their 2 year grandson would be in it as well. Had they simply exchanged it, we wouldn't have had to lose a day and a half on our trip - cancel non refundable hotels that had already been booked, due to the delay. These people do NOT check their vehicles for safety what so ever, which is beyond disappointing considering the majority of those renting these are families. Do NOT rent from here - drive across the bay, go to an RV share site ... you'd honestly be better off hitchhiking. It's also worth noting, when we were opening hatches for the storage areas under the main part of the vehicle, 3 out of 4 of them were broken. The locks on them were rusted so badly, you couldn't even open them. If I could give 0 stars I would! EPIC FAIL!!! Never again will I do business with Smith Rent A Car OR Cruise America! We reserved an RV over a month in advance only to show up at our scheduled day to find there were no RVs available!!!! INEXCUSABLE!!! The people at Smith's were sullen and appeared not interested in helping at all. Seems like this happens there all the time. We had prepared for this trip for over a month, bought supplies for the RV and lost money on our RV park that charged us since we had to cancel last minute. Smith's and Cruise America's solution was for us to drive 100 miles to possibly pickup another RV!!! Customer Service at Cruise America only offered that they were at fault and a refund of our deposit - which was our money anyway!!! We had to scramble that day at another rental place for an SUV which totally changed all our travel plans. Budget rentals on Santa Rosa Ave were the best!!! I am waiting for cruise america customer relations to respond to my email about all these issues or the next call will be my lawyer! For a company that is supposed to be about dream family vacations and fun, our experience turned out to be a nightmare! read more

We had a terrible experience with this company! Night one went smoothly, but only because we didn't use any of the unit's amenities. On night two, I had put my children to bed and gotten in the shower. Soon I hear a loud banging on the door of my unit. I came to the door, soaking wet, and a concerned neighbor told me there were flames shooting out of the hot water heater exhaust. Naked, wet, clad only in a towel, I had to gather my children and our belongings and flee the unit for our own safety. By pure luck, we had a tent, otherwise we would have had to spend the night in the car. In the morning, we attempted to rectify the situation with Cruise America representatives and were treated poorly. They gave us the runaround and were completely unsympathetic to our situation. We had to spend a lot of time on the phone and in person arguing with representatives, all while trying to manage children and still trying to enjoy our vacation. Their representatives charged us for the entire rental, even though we were only able to sleep in it a single night and we were returning the unit a night early. They offered to remove the charge for a single night, which was frankly insulting given that their OWN mechanic admitted that the unit was malfunctioning and the water heater was broken. Our vacation was not yet over and we had to find somewhere else to stay. The whole experience was an extreme inconvenience and rudeness of their representatives was shocking. I'm still fighting with corporate Cruise America to get my money back for them renting me a faulty RV unit. read more

Was our first time using Cruise America RV rental for my daughter's birthday. I have looked up their RVs online and really liked it. However, when I came to pick it up, it was absolutely different (not new and beautiful as pictured online), but outdated, old style. I was disappointed, but because the day I picked up RV unexpected happened to be the day we had to evacuate Windsor area because of the fire (October 26th), I took it anyways. Everything was working and ok while we were on the road. After original 3 nights we have rented RV for, we still couldn't go back home because evacuation order for our area was not lifted yet. I have called 1800 number to see if they could extended RV until the time we are allowed to come back , they said sure, but you have to pay for it. I told them that I wasn't originally planning for extended vacation and it was not in my budget to pay additional $80/night on top of other expenses (RV spot rental, etc.) They said there was nothing they could do about this matter and advised me to call the place I rented RV. I called, explained the situation again, told them we can not come back home because our house is in evacuation zone, they said I have to call the manager. I called the manager, Brent M. , explained everything again, he said nothing he can do about, told me to call 1-800 number again. Inhumane ! It was enough for me. Here I am with 3 kids and pregnant wife, not knowing what to do next! All they cared about the $$, so disappointing m! Screwed it, I had to put it on a credit card (even though we have been trying the whole year to pay off our debts and not live on credit anymore). I came to drop offer the vehicle, everything went ok, they emailed me the bill. Got home, opened the bill, wrong promo code was used ( free night instead of half miles). I called them right away, spoke with the girl (check in employee CA729), explained her that when I made reservation over the phone with their location I gave them promo code for the discounted miles, not free night), on what she said contract was closed and there was nothing she could do! I just dropped off the RV, and you can't do anything?! Are you kidding me?! To say the least I am VERY disappointed in this whole Cruise America experience: starting from misleading information on the unit to how Brent, the manager, did not even tried to help with this emergency situation! It was my first and last time using the service of this company. Save YOUR hard made money, and spend them with someone who doesn't care just for the $$, but also the people. Worst customer service ever. Rented a Cruise America RV from the Santa Rosa location. Booked approximately 5 weeks in advance and called the day before to confirm pickup. After packing and planning for days and taking a week off work, we arrive at the location right on time to NO RV!! The worst part is they were unwilling to help at all. Called El Monte and the sweetest most helpful associates helped us out immediately. Seriously avoid this place like the plague, they are horrible. read more

This was the biggest rip off. For over $1000.00 for 3 days. We were in 20 degree weather with no cell service and the heater didn't work. My husband owns a heating and Air conditioning company and he couldn't fix it. I got locked in the bathroom and couldn't get out because the door was broken ( that's was fun). I was locked in there for about 10 minutes and when your claustrophobic it's very stressful. The toilet overflowed even though we had only used it a couple times, #1 thank God. We came home early because we were sick of freezing. When we brought it back, cleaner than we got it, we let them know all the things that went wrong and they told us that we needed to contact the corporate office to see about getting some money back. It's not the corporate office responsibility to make sure everything is in good order before renting. And of course we called and they said we could get a discount on our next rental. NO THANK YOU.
