Whisk is simply one of the best lunch/bakery/catering places you will find in the Ohio Valley. We…read moreeat there almost weekly for lunch (and of course to grab a couple flavors of cupcakes to try!), have used them many many times to cater small events (bridal showers, birthdays, etc) and recently asked them if they could make cupcakes for the cookie table for our wedding! I think the total came out to just shy of 500 mini-cupcakes in 5 different flavors... They were all beautiful (photo credit: Hannah Barlow Photography) and absolutely DELICIOUS! We were worried with all the cupcakes and cookies from friends that we would have a ton of leftovers, but those cupcakes went FAST! We can't thank or recommend them highly enough, they are the best! Oh, and the cake! They also did our wedding cake, we wanted something small (just for the two of us), elegant, and fun, and they absolutely nailed it! Perfect and delicious and we are not proud of the amount of cake we have eaten - it's just so good!

UPDATED REVIEW:…read more Ordered a round tier cake for a family celebration. Icing flowers on top were beautiful but icing on the side was a combination of too many colors and some bare brown spots(side colors weren't requested but would have been fine if it would have looked better). Buttercream icing tasted delicious however it was too thick and looked like it was used to fill where the top tier was slanted equaling too much icing and not enough cake. The cake tasted good but not great because the texture was too airy, very crumbly, and lacked some in flavor. Overall my opinion is that it tasted better than some cakes made from a box and even some grocery store cakes but it left a lot to be desired as bakery cake made from scratch. Additionally, I ordered a dozen mixed berry scones. These scones did not taste as good as the scones I ordered from Whisk a couple years ago. I nuked them to soften and warm but unfortunately the mixed berries were hardly tasted or seen and a flour type taste overwhelmed my palate.

If you know, you know. This iconic bakery has been a staple of the city for generations, and after recently celebrating its 90th anniversary, it's easy to see why people keep coming back. What makes Gus's so special isn't just the famous cream sticks (although they absolutely live up to the hype). It's a family-run business that has become part of the fabric of the community, and there's something special about supporting a local institution that has been serving customers with pride for nearly a century. Beyond the cream sticks, they offer cakes, cookies, pastries, and just about every sweet treat you could hope to find in a hometown bakery. On a previous visit, we did run into a small issue when a few of our cream sticks were missing that signature filling. I gave them a call, and instead of excuses, I was met with genuine kindness and a sincere desire to make it right. On our next visit, they more than delivered, and the experience reminded me why customer service still matters. Gus's Goodies is one of those places I'll always make time for whenever I'm back in Weirton. Thank you for the continued hospitality, wonderful service, and for making the city just a little sweeter with every cream stick. Here's to many more years of carrying on a hometown tradition--and yes, filling those cream sticks (and this Yelp review) with plenty of love.

I…read morewas surprised at how many Valentine's day themed baked goods were still available when we showed up. We bought some sugar cookies, chocolate chip, and a peanut butter. The muffin was for his grandmother, but it was the last blueberry on the shelf and it looked good. The cookies were fantastic. I personally had the peanut butter with a little dollop of chocolate in the middle. It had a slight chew and lots of peanut butter flavor. I thought the prices were a little high for the cakes, but maybe they're amazing! The customer-facing area of the business is on the smaller side. It would definitely feel crowded with 10 people in there. They have racks spread throughout so you can shop each corner without being forced to wait at the counter for everything. They do have a good sized paved parking lot available right out front.

Farmhouse Kitchen & Bakery is a local restaurant that serves breakfast/brunch, lunch, and dinner…read more My husband and I ate one breakfast here. An employee greeted us and said that we could sit at whatever table we preferred. The menu listed foods such as avocado toast, hashes, omelets, pancakes, waffles, French toasts, salads, sandwiches, non-alcoholic beverages, and more. Here are my ratings for what we ate: Strawberry French toast - 4.5 stars - The slices of French toast were made from Challah bread dipped in cinnamon and vanilla and were a good-sized serving. They were topped with strawberries and whipped cream. On the side was syrup. Bacon - 5 stars - We each ordered this side of bacon. The slices of bacon were thick and crispy. You may order non-crispy bacon if you want. Sausage Gravy & Biscuit - 3 stars - My husband took only a couple of bites, and the rest was thrown away. The biscuits were thin, the gravy was thin and "flavorless," and not much sausage was included. He described this entree as "bad," and I thought that it tasted OK. On the side were hash browns that he said were probably purchased and not made in-house. Orange juice - 4.5 stars - Fresh and not overly pulpy The total price was $28 plus a cash tip.

I had several hours to kill, so I decided to head down to Claysville to try this place. I saw on Yelp that it got great reviews, which is why I decided to make the drive. I also like to support small town, family owned businesses. It was easy to find street parking outside. I walked in to find a few empty tables and grabbed a seat. After a little wait, someone did come over to bring me a menu, silverware and take my drink order. I opted to order the farmhouse hash, sans avocado. I added a side of toast and ordered a coffee to drink. As I sat there waiting for my food and then while I ate, the place filled up. It's a small place inside but has decent seating. To me, the coffee was a little watered down, too weak, but not awful. When my food came out, it was a huge serving and it was delicious. I thought to myself, I'll never finish this, but then because it was so good, I did. I ordered my eggs over easy and they were cooked perfect. The hash had a ton of chopped bacon in it, as well as perfectly cooked potatoes, onions, peppers and cheese. If you are looking for a new breakfast spot, I would suggest you give this small town spot a chance.
